About/Follow

Welcome to 'Chronicling Kate' and thank you for stopping by.

My own interest in the Royal family stems back generations. My grandmother was a great admirer of the Queen throughout her life, and my mother adored Diana. Indeed, she often recalled taking the day off work with several colleagues to watch Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981. Three decades later, I joined millions around the world in seeing William and Kate exchange their vows at Westminster Abbey. I had followed Kate's journey from a university student to the Duchess of Cambridge through online coverage and the pages of Hello! Magazine for years. The wedding was truly a magical day and the beginning of a new era for the monarchy. The day after, I decided to launch my own blog, initially a private project to indulge my royal interest during my first year at university. It's certainly been quite a journey since then, It's been a delight to welcome readers from all over the world and to follow unforgettable events from the arrival of George, Charlotte and Louis to tours all over the world.

Over the years, my own interest has grown into a great sense of appreciation for the charitable endeavours of the Royal family and their role in 21st century Britain. They are uniquely placed to make a tangible difference through their roles in the UK and the Commonwealth. They also serve as ambassadors representing Her Majesty overseas. Here you'll find a large focus on the work of the Princess primarily (I love nothing more than an 'away day' and learning about incredible people and organisations around the UK), but also coverage of all our favourite royal events - be it Christmas at Sandringham or Trooping the Colour. I also greatly enjoy the sartorial side of royal watching and provide up to the minute details on items the Princess is wearing and brands in her wardrobe. I have enjoyed every moment of following Kate's journey as the Duchess of Cambridge. Now I cannot wait to chronicle her role as HRH The Princess of Wales.

They really seem to be truly in love and what a beautiful woman. All the work she has done she is really behind the causes and I love her "down to earth" outlook. They make a really wonderful pair and I can't wait until they become King and Queen of England. I know they will do a fantastic job!!!

  25. Like that Kate recycles her clothes. Very practical and smart. Hope she keeps it up. Loves her wearing stockings too. Pippa should not be photographed with her. Does not look good, like a social climber, desperate.
Looking forward to seeing Kate have a baby/babies.
More power to her recycled clothing and going for practical reasonable clothes .

  27. Hi just want to say that I really enjoy your blog and I noticed that this blog contains some of the less seen photos of Kate compare with other media. However, I remember that a while ago I saw numerous old pictures of Kate(the pictures of her way before her marriage) and I actually like that archive so so much because I appreciate her pre-marriage style much more than her Royal style. But now I can't see those pictures anymore. Why? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love your blog! However I found the archive called "Duchess before Cambridge" is gone and I honestly miss them becasue I actually love Kate's pre-marriage style more then her Royal style. Is there ANY way that I can still access the archive before 2011 May? Thanks a lot!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Kate's black dress could also be the "Brandy" dress from Reiss which retails for $340 in the United States. After taking a closer look, I'm inclined to believe it is this dress, but the dress from Zara is a great look-a-like for a cheaper price. ~Melanie

  47. While I'm always eager to see a new gown, I sort of felt that the Duchess would recycle for the St. Andrews dinner. The black lace Temperly looked beautiful (as did Catherine). Her recycling of outfits, sometimes from years ago, does raise for me a couple of questions, which some of you may have knowledge or ideas about: How do you think she stores and "catalogs" all her clothes, since she seems to maintain ready access to them, and they all remain in mint condition? I know she does not have a Mistress of the Wardrobe! Also, do you think she has more than one identical pair of the shoes that she wears most frequently (for instance, the nude Bennetts)? They always look pristine, even though she wears them while walking across lawns and cobblestones and miles of concrete and asphalt--often in the rain.

  68. Charlotte, by posting here I hope to avoid the fate I had on a prior post. As I said in that post, I neither love nor hate Kate. There are things I really like about her, and things I'm starting to not like so much. After making a statement to that effect, I was accused of not understanding the meaning of words I used, and that I should go hang out at the Daily Mail. By a person who does not put a name to her words as well. I am bluhare, have always been bluhare, and will continue to be bluhare!

So, my question is can a divergent opinion be handled here? I love Kate's fashion, she does a wonderful job in my opinion, and as I also said I think she's got great presence and poise. But if I'm going to be bashed every time I say something, then this isn't the place for me either.

Appreciate your time, Charlotte. You do a good job!!

    1. Hello Bluhare,

Let me start by saying, you are of course most welcome on this blog.

The discussion on the post you mentioned got terribly out of hand. It happens each time the work debate is brought up and that is the only reason I decided it was best not to discuss it.

Constructive opinions are always most welcome and if you ever again feel you have been attacked by another poster, please don't hesitate to let me know.

  73. I've been looking at your blog from time to time and have a couple of ideas for the baby name(s). Your Windsor family tree is interesting, but the Cambridges may go back even further for names. My suggestions follow. For a boy, George William Henry David. George is a royal name with a long lineage; William and Henry are also, but give a nod to the child's father and uncle as well; David is the patron saint of Wales where the Cambridge's have spent the last couple of years and the Welsh would be thrilled. For a girl, Eleanor Catherine Elizabeth Matilda. Eleanor of Aquitaine was queen/wife to Henry II and a very strong individual and the name hasn't been used in a long time, so it would be distinctive and not invite too many comparisons; Catherine and Elizabeth are royal names of long standing and give a nod to both the child's mother and great-grandmother; and Matilda was the name of the queen/wife of both William the Conqueror (William I) and King Stephen and, while seemingly old-fashioned, I think the British might very well like it just because it is historic. Just some thoughts!

  79. I found a good 'copykate' for the pink MaxMara studio coat Kate wore to the official visit to Cambridge. It's the 'Simply Divine Coat' from French Connection for £160 and it's the same colour, has similar slanted pockets, zip fastening and poppers but doesn't have the same high neck but is otherwise the same. I found it while trying to identify the pink coat she wore recently to a Swiss wedding and thought it was that one but then noticed it wasn't when I looked closer.

I don't have my own blog because I dont have enough time to update regularly but Id really like to start one. I would appreciate it if you perhaps could include this info in your next post so other people could benefit from it. I really like your blog.

It's never too late to discover a good blog, this one about Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge is wonderfully done and the exciting days about the Royal baby's birth were perfectly described so that I thought I was standing next to the Lindo Wing door. I've visited the whole subjects and important days on this perfect blog and I'll be regular visitor from now on.
    Keep up the good work!

  88. Hello! I'm from Canada. I LOVE your blog! I have a non related Catherine question...you mentioned that you are a student. I wondered what you are studying? And how did you get to be so knowledgeable with all the fashion Catherine wears? I have tried several times to identify (on my own) what she wore but I am never quick enough. Keep up the great work! I can only imagine the hard work and time you put into this blog in addition to being a student. That's a lot of work...but it seems like you totally enjoy it, which is nice.

    1. Hello Mandy,

I'm doing an MBA! I'm blogging three years and at the start I was pretty clueless but I started to research Kate labels and labels she would wear. We regularly do fashion predictions posts and it's a great way to become familiar with collections. Also, for most official engagements the Palace announces the designer. If something is proving particularly difficult, the ladies over at What Kate Wore Facebook usually find it.

It never feels like hard work I have to say, I really love it :)

    2. Charlotte! I accidentally stumbled onto this site...lurching along and learning as I go. It's very encouraging to read that you learned as you went along while you followed your passion....
which you have stamped with your very own intelligence, integrity, and comittment. I hope to do the same with my project to help with bullying , abuse, & the appalling absence of integrity in the world - by teaching abusers how much they hurt themselves - what they lose - when they hurt others. I've never seen anything out there that really addresses these issues! Thank you for being such sn inspiration! I'm incredulous that you are doing all
of this PLUS studying for your MBA! I'm fascinated by the give-and-take on the blog...even when things get heated...people's behavior is fascinating...but it has deepened my reluctance to get on facebook and twitter....suspicious in my old age!
It is lovely meeting you -and sharing my passion for what the royal family represents - and for fashion!

    Hi Charlotte!

I'd first like to say that I love and adore your blog. You have the perfect proportions between fashion, facts, pictures etc. These last days I've Read your whole blog from beginning to end. Wow, you're good! You're improved alot since the beginning. Was great to see.

I have some ideas for posts and themes. I think you do a marvellous job so theme are just suggestions for if you have a writers block or it is a lack of kate-news. I didn't know where to post this and since I didn't want to mail I'll put it here.

    1. How William (and Kate) was dressed as kids and some speculations on how Kate will dress George and possible future kids.
    2. Kate's hair. Maybe sort her different styles into groups or do something cronological.
    3. Flashback posts. Choose a day, week or month and look in detail at what she was doing at the same time previous years. Look at how her life has changed.
    4. Kate and Will - PDA. Your favourite love-looks, kisses, hugs etc. throughout the years.
    5. Best videos of them. Or maybe a summary tab with videos of them.
    6. Favourite Kate quotes.
    7. Kate -Food. Look at what resturants they like (only the food since you already did a Kate love son restaurants.). I read that she gave cookies to the RAF, made BBQ with scouts and that both she and will mentioned to a writer that kate loves her cookbook(s). So a food and baking inspired post.
    8. Collections of all her speaches.
    9. Kate loves - most recycled clothes, shoes etc. The things she wears the most.
    10. Campare her style with royals. Not only Diana, but the queen, Camilla and some of the minor royals. Maybe some european royals like Mary, Victoria, Maxima etc.
    11. Posts summing up her work in her patronages (spelling?). One post for each containing short information about the charity and summaries and pictures from all her engagements and work surrounding each of them.

Once again. I love your blog. So I really hope you dont take this as critique. It's just meant as inspiration.

    Hugs from Rebecca from Sweden!

  92. Hi Charlotte,

    1. Hello Katie,

Thank you for your lovely comment! There is an excellent blog covering Mary called 'Style of Mary'. It's very thorough and regularly updated http://styleofmary.blogspot.com

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with a blog covering Máxima but the 'Order of Splendor' blog is a fantastic resource for following the royals and a treasure trove for those who enjoy royal jewels http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com

I'll update if I discover any more :)

  93. I am not sure that is the correct Pashmina for the dinner as if you look at Kate's at the bottom is has faint lines running through the bottom hem, the Picket one does not show this, what do you think?

  95. Hi Charlotte, I wasn't sure how to send you a private message, so I'm dropping a quick note here. I have been following your blogs since 2012, and I am grateful for the welcoming, gracious, and thoughtful spaces you have created. Your posts provided me a much-needed mental health escape when I was in grad school, soI hope that you get the mental space and support you need right now as you are covering different parts of the royal world. Thank you for the example in generous compassion you demonstrate for all of us reading and following along.

Hi, Charlotte you really write beautifully and with respect. I'd suggest: add Royal Decade blog into your list of sister blogs.

  99. It would be nice if you do a blog about Sophie Duchess of Edinburgh, especially for us ladies over 50. She dresses so well and since she has become amore prominent figure it would be so nice hearing about her good works.
