William and Kate Return to Portsmouth for America's Cup World Series & Azuni Giveaway!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge returned to Portsmouth to see the second America's Cup World Series.

Kate attended in her capacity as Royal Patron of the 1851 Trust, which aims to inspire and engage a new generation through sailing and the marine industry, providing young people with the education, skills and training to become innovators of the future, and stewards of the marine environment. Its name derives from the fact it is supported by Land Rover BAR (Ben Ainslie Racing), the team hoping to bring the America’s Cup back to Britain – a trophy that left these shores in 1851 and one Britain has never won.

The patronage was seen as an ideal match for keen sailor Kate who crewed a Round the World Challenge Boat during her gap year and worked as a deckhand. When HRH took on the role she said: "I am delighted to be Royal Patron of the 1851 Trust. I feel very fortunate to have enjoyed sailing from a young age and I know it is a great way of providing young people with the opportunity to develop skills and confidence." She added she was "looking forward to being part of the journey" to bring the America's Cup back to Britain. The Duchess has attended a number of engagements in support of the effort.

The couple received a warm welcome upon arrival.

Readers will have be familiar with Sir Ben Ainslie (indeed, I believe he's a rather popular chap with a few of you :)). It's been a busy time for the most successful Olympic sailor in history. On Thursday it was announced he and his wife - sports presenter Georgie - welcomed their first child, a daughter named Bellatrix Ainslie.

The team had another royal visitor on Friday when Prince Philip, Admiral of the Royal Yacht Squadron, visited the base and hopped on board a catamaran.

William and Kate visited the team base to see their state of the art testing boats, and meet the team driving the advanced design and technology forward to help the team achieve their goal to bring the cup home.

The Duchess met Zak Kay who won an 1851 Trust competition to design the trophy for the winner of the event.

William and Kate posed for a photo.

Prince William talked about George's birthday. More from the Express:

William talked about his son's third birthday, which was on Friday, when he met a young prize winner in Portsmouth who designed the trophy for which Sir Ben Anslie British crew are competing.
Zak Kay, 10, a pupil at St Paul's Catholic Primary School, Portsmouth, asked what George got for his birthday. "What did he get for his birthday? I'm not telling", William, 34, said. "He got too many things. He's far too spoilt, he 's not into boats yet."

More from The Telegraph:

The day saw the Duchess of Cambridge also spent time with young people working in the sailing and marine industry, speaking to them about working to reduce the stigma of mental health problems.
Tiyah Windslade, 17, who presented the Duchess with a bouquet, said: "She was lovely beautiful and friendly. "I almost started crying! She said that I would be in safe hands with Ben Ainslie. "She spoke a lot about mental health and how we need to stop people from feeling ashamed about themselves and come out and be very open about their mental health. And she sad that we are the voice reaching out to people because we are working with them on the ground.
"The Duke was talking about the same priorities as the Duchess. He was really lovely too."

Last year's races had to be cancelled due to dismal weather; thankfully, that was not the case this time, and William and Kate were delighted better conditions prevailed today.

Aside from the British challenger, they watched teams from the USA, France, New Zealand, Japan and Sweden compete in three races on the Solent. Thousands of fans watched on from the Race Village on Southsea seafront.

The couple joined thousands of spectators to cheer on the teams.

This photo offers a look at the scale of the turnout.

Afterwards, they visited the competing teams in the Race Village where they met the six international skippers and their crews, and were also joined by children involved with the 1851 Trust.

There was a huge cheer for Ben Ainslie and his team.

The Duke and Duchess supported the team by wearing official gear. Kate wore the £50 Land Rover BAR Replica Pique Women's Polo from Henri Lloyd.

It is described: "Inspired by the iconic Henri Lloyd Polo, the Land Rover BAR Polo is a replica of the team Polo and constructed from 100% cotton pique. The polo features a rib collar and raglan sleeve design for additional comfort."

Henri Llloyd

The Duchess wore skinny jeans.

Upon arrival, Kate sported her Monsoon Fleur wedges, first seen during the royal tour of India and Bhutan. The $79 espadrille wedges feature an almond toe and gripped soles that ensure a comfortable stride.

Monsoon

Before racing began, Kate changed into her Adidas Pure Boost X trainers in core black/shock green. The £90 shoes are "built for nonstop motion. Made for runners with a neutral gait, a snug, sock-like upper delivers nonrestrictive arch support so you can move with instinct, while a boost™ midsole invigorates every step with light, fast energy. An optimal fit plus dynamic cushioning means you're ready for any challenge." They are available at Nordstrom and Footlocker.

Kate completed the look with her Kiki Lauren earrings.

We saw Kate sport an array of hairstyles today. Which is your favourite? I thought the ponytail looked great with her casual look and was ideal for the windy conditions.

I have to say, gala gear to all honor, but WOW! Will & Kate really look great in sport-ish wear. Similar feelings as their Olympic watching gear! Perfect balance! Looks like when other royals (non-british, or... I think Anne and Sophie dress like this for sports events too) like the Swedes, Dutch etc watch sports. Team shirts all around! Especially on this event where the "dress code" is rather relaxed. Especially sensible since they watched from the water!

Also, watching information about these boats! This is some freaking high level engineering and scinence! Stuff figured out in these head quarters will no doubt help breakthroughs in these areas in the future. It's basically a science lab! I sure understand why they are used as a way to inspire young people into STEM! Impressive! There is talk about coorporate spying etc around these places because the technology is so "top of the line". What a way to get kids into science!

Nice that Prince Phillip popped by some days ago as well :) Really seems like a big deal for the UK. Both for sailing, but mostly for science! I really understand why the royals have focused on this. It's really showcasing british sportsmanship and ingenuity!

Also, congratulations to Ben and his wife on their little baby girl!! What an exciting time it must be for him/them!

If You Go Back Through Past Race Rosters, You Will See That The Guys Ben's Team Is Sailing Against Are His Buddies & Past America's Cup Teammates!:) I already Put Up 2 Posts With Lots of Info! I Hope Everybody Reads Them To Find Out That if BAR Wins, Then Ben Will Become The Only Other Man To Win Both Olympic Gold & America's Cup & The Current Title is held by "Buddy Melges", Whom Ben Will know! But Buddy is in his 80's & He won 1 Gold, whereas Ben won Multiple! I Can't Understand Why There is Not More Publicity? Unless because it puts too much focus on Ben when he's pulling his Team BAR Together!? Please Google "Buddy Melges" & I Encourage Everyone To Watch the Videos on YouTube of Team Land Rover BAR & Oracle Team USA! Very Impressive & I Know it will be Educational & get Everyone Excited for The Olympics & To See If BAR Can Bring The Cup Home! ( I admit I'm pulling for them, tho I have links to Sailors on Oracle Team USA.... Don't Tell OK?:)

  4. I'm not sure about the wedges with this look. I think it would have made more sense to wear trainers the entire time. She as always looks lovely.

    1. I agree about the wedges, they made an odd combination with those jeans. The "trainers" looked much better. The ultra skinny jeans are getting so monotonous and worn. Kate needs to go jean shopping and explore some other styles.

I agree anon 14:46. I think that sneakers looked better with the outfit than the wedges. I also think that maybe her sebago flats would have look great too. But as usually she still looks great as always.

I think it's a generational (or just what you're used to) thing. To me, as a young person, these kind of skinny jeans is the absolute most neutral pant you can wear that is literally a "nothing to note here" piece of clothing. I myself don't wear it, but all my friends do and to me they are just a "there" pair of neutral piece of clothing.

      Delete
    2. Agreed. She looks great but it's time to move on from the skinnies and wedges. There are so many other types of casual pants. In one of the pictures a lady was wearing capris and boat shoes and looked great.

      Delete
    3. Rebecca I must jump in to disagree ;) There are many things that are young and modern and whatever else, that doesn't mean you wear them on the job. What if William showed up in what some young men wear out there? Ripped, torn jeans, hanging past his bum? And I can imagine what Americans would say if Michelle Obama showed up in faded worn jeans. I remember the uproar - and I agreed with it, and she never did it again - when Mrs. Obama bounded out of Air Force One wearing old shorts and a shirt looking like she was about to go gardening.

Valerie noted that she looked "normal" not like a royal, but she IS royal, a very senior royal. As someone else noted there are many options she could explore. Save these things for private. Diana wore many "fitted" jeans but nothing like this, and certainly never looking like they had been dug out of a laundry heap at the back of her wardrobe!

Sorry for going on about this. But I have big problems when people mix up "I don't like this" with "this is inappropriate". I realize that what seems appropriate depends on your experiences so I'm not saying you're wrong. Just think that wearing skinny pants makes you less of a representative of the queen. As another example we have Sophie (that many people here always give as an example for Kate to look to) at a sporting event: https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d-tSVdWeTLQ/VyJIRwqlFVI/AAAAAAAAQDw/-7LoAxbf5I8xEVPobYLdv3z7NQzsSc-MACKgB/s1600/IIM-12528-0011.jpg

    5. Why all the over the top reaction to skinny jeans and wedges? I think Kate looks sensational. As I mentioned below, just a matter of taste. I don't believe her sartorial choices will cause an international crisis ;)

      Delete
    6. I agree with Rebecca. Skinny jeans are every where. They're very fashionable and are flattering to most, and especially Kate. Aside from the hideous high rise jeans or what we used to call 'mom' jeans, they're the predominant style to find in stores nowadays. You have to hunt really hard to find other styles.

Skinny jeans bunch at the knees because that is where your legs move the most and need to most gi e, stick out, etc. I don't think they look bad or worn.

Her shirt has her title, she's very recognizable, and this isn't the type of engagement that you put on your Sunday best to go to.

I think the wedges were fine during the tour part of the engagement but would be ridiculous when on the chase boat. Changing was a great idea. It's obvious she likes this look and will continue to dress like this when the time I right. It's fine not to like it but it's not going to change.

      Delete
    7. I think the pic of Victoria is a great example of what Kate could be wearing, they are "normal" and the entire outfit looks good, fresh and appropriate. I'm hard pressed to see how that's like these things Kate's wearing today.

And while you may doubt my generation Rebecca, I do have two 20-something daughters, and I've never seen them or their friends at any event in jeans like Kate is wearing today, even to a family picnic. Certainly not a company event representing their boss. Lazing around house, running errands, sure.

So I'm not questioning whether they're normal or everyday pants or whatever you're getting at, I know what they are, and if Kate's sitting around Anmer or running to Waitrose go for it. They don't belong here -- In My Opinion.

And even if skinny jeans existed when Diana was around I highly doubt she'd wear them to an official function. She wore the equivalent of yoga pants etc to the gym, but would never dream of showing up at an official event like that.

As she jokingly said to her bodyguard when he wanted to drive her in a low key, rundown Toyota once to escape attention, "What on earth are you doing? It may have slipped your notice, but I am the Princess of Wales" :)

    8. Rebecca - Sweden24 July 2016 at 20:07

Victorias pants are skinny pants with some width at the bottom. But still skinny pants. Don't see how there's NOT a connectiong there.

Ofc not every 20 year old girl wear them, I don't at all. And it will depend on where you live etc. If you're in the US for example, in Washington you will probably dress dressier than if you work in florida for example. I don't doubt your generation at all? Just saying that things change.

Jeans are clearly not for "running errands" anymore. Way back, they might only be used for gardening at home etc. But buissnesswomen wear jeans etc. Not in court, or when meeting the boss (lets compare these events to royal garden party etc), but this was on the water watching sports. As my other examples showed, you can still be very much a royal and wear a sports shirt!

Also, that comment from Diana doesn't really carry your point well. It just sounds snobbish to my ears...

      Delete
    9. Claudia, I see no difference between the "jeans" being worn by Victoria and Kate other than the person wearing them. They were both on an official engagement. So why it is ok for Victoria and not ok for Kate?

      Delete
    10. Rebecca I remember reading that Diana story too and she was completely joking with her driver, as Claudia said. Diana was incredibly down to earth, not a snobbish bone in her body. I think what Diana was also getting at, that when in public, she had to have a certain stature about her. She always RESPECTED her position as Princess of Wales I think and what the public expected of her. Maybe Kate hasn't fully grasped that yet? Not a dig on Kate, she still has time, just an observation given how casual she sometimes is.

      Delete
    11. As a woman Kate's age, I can say that skinny jeans, especially dark wash ones are the go to for most things. Wear with a t-shirt and sandels/boat shoes for casual, dress it up with heels/fancy flats and a cute top(with jewelry) for work, date nights, girls nights, etc. I have seen them worn to multiple bridal/baby showers so pretty much anywhere but formal events.

That being said, I think Kate was perfectly appropriate for today. They were planning on being out and about, so anything dressier would have meant wardrobe changes, etc. it's been done before(last visit) but if she doesn't need to do changes, why waste the time. She wore a top specific to the event, so her choices were perfectly in line with her patronage.

      Delete
    12. I tend to agree about the wedges not being necessary here, but I have no issue with the jeans. They are in style and Kate has the body to wear them. And the top isn't any tighter on Kate than the model. It's meant to be a snug fit.

Here are other royal ladies on the job in skinny jeans...

They looked cute and appropriate for the event.Top is really cute for a generic "event" type top, so many of those "custom made shirts" are just awful. Thought she and William looked so relaxed and really just great and "Appropriate"! Thougth the whole event looked like a lovely occasion. ali

The only difference I see between Kate's genes and genes of all the other Royals that have been listed with links, is that Kate's always looks so worn and old. All of the ones that Royalfan put links to look so new a clean and incredible! Gorgeous ladies they all are. I think we just don't like the "worn" or old look of Kate's :) or at least I don't hehe! The colors of the shirt she wore would e looked great with a dark clean skinny. The old gray is terrible with the colors in the shirt.

    19. Feminist and ageism rant to follow for those of you who do not like rants, especially of the feminist or ageism variety. Please use your page down key and scroll past.

Kate is at work. She is not out for a casual afternoon of sailing. She is working and representing the Queen. And as such, her sex appeal, great figure, body, etc. etc. should not even be part of the equasion. If I were Kate's supervisor and she went out to meet with clients wearing those jeans I'd tell her next time she needs to wear a pair that don't give everyone a view best suited for her husband on their downtime. She should be taken seriously, which is hard to do when everyone is talking about whether her jeans are appropriate or too tight.

Men would not go out to meet a client (for lack of a better term) wearing jeans like that. William didn't. So why do we expect women to go out looking sexy and showing off their figures? That is for off work time. It isn't appropriate when you're out drumming up support for a fairly serious endeavor representing a very conservative institution. After all, isn't the offshoot of this the charity that theoretically helps children with math and science?

I haven't looked at the comparative photos posted here as I thought we weren't supposed to compare Kate with other royals because, you know, she's not in the same position they are. At least that's what I've been told here.

And the thought that the older generation can only comment from the position of fuddy duddyness? Horse pucky. I wear skinny jeans. I wear them to work. But I would NOT wear them to go meet a client. I wear them in the office when no one is coming in that day, as do the rest of my coworkers; one of whom is exactly the same age as Kate. I wear them out with my husband too. If Kate did wear something with a different cut instead of the skinny jeans, you young whipper snappers would be talking about how young and fresh her choice is.

My point? She's a working woman. She needs to be taken seriously. When all the conversation is about her clothes or how cute she is, that isn't serious. It's fluff. And you all know how I feel about fluff.

    20. Rebecca - Sweden25 July 2016 at 21:49

I see your points bluhare. But I also see it differently. First of all, I dont see something sexual in her having skinny pants. Those are just legs, covered in clothes. Also, I did not mean that older people are fuddy duddies. I only mention age because alot of older people gasp over things that younger people do based of how the guidlines were back when they were young. So all I'm trying to point out is that things change. Something we feel is super conservative now (QEII hemlines for example) did not seem so way back (to Queen Mary for example). I also mentioned that it also depends on where you're from. But I do think there is alot of judgement from (in this case) older people towards Kate that I think is unjustified.

And to be crass, it doesn't feel very feminist to tell someone to dress more modestly to do their work...

"But I do think there is alot of judgement from (in this case) older people towards Kate that I think is unjustified."

Um, how in the world do you know how old we all are?? or do you think that all folks who don't like skinny pants are all over a certain age??

      Delete
    22. Rebecca, one reason I like talking with you is I think you do try to understand and I appreciate it.

They are just legs covered in clothes, and I don't mean to say women should dress like nuns all the time. But I also think that wearing revealing clothing doesn't send the right message sometimes either. And those jeans are tight. You can tell me they're on point fashion wise, and they might be, but they are much too tight for business attire. Women fought for years to be seen as more than their looks, figures, and child bearing capabilities. They fought to be paid the same and treated the same as men in the workplace and some of that came with a sacrifice, and some of that was dressing more soberly so men would take them seriously. I came up in that era, and I remember my boss taking me back in the warehouse to give me my Christmas goose (no I'm not kidding) and comments about my clothes, etc., that would get them sued today. Drives me nuts for young women today thinking it's all about their sexuality. News flash. It's about your sexuality until men don't find you particularly sexy any more.

All of that wasn't particularly about Kate. But she's a future queen. She isn't the celebutant of the day, and I wish that when she has a more casual engagement she dresses more conservatively and upmarket than she does. There are plenty of jeans that would have worked well with the tops they wore. And a pair of topsiders or trainers from start to finish would have been OK too.

But I digress. Sorry. Told you it would be a feminist rant!!

    24. Maggie - Minneapolis25 July 2016 at 23:28

Feminism doesn't deny that women have professional obligations that mean they can't dress as they please. Yes, I wish women could show off their bodies at work, and the reason they can't is certainly because of sexism. However, because we live in the world we do, it is a fact of life that people will indeed get distracted by a woman's clothing and/or body. Kate knows that better than most of us. If she really wants to not be known as a clothes horse, if she really is interested in the attention being on her charities, then she has to dress professionally and modestly. This is a fact of life for all women. Kate can choose to dress less modestly, but then no one can get upset when pictures of her butt are published, or when people focus on her clothes/body/how she looks instead of what she is saying or doing. I wish it wasn't that way, but it is, and Kate knows it, and so at some point, I'm not going to pity her for having to choose between dressing how she wishes and dressing to "appropriately," because that's just how it is for all of us. Also it's a matter of respect. These jeans are also faded (they may be new, but they don't look it). Last year to this event she wore worn out jeans and scuffed shoes. Forget modesty, that's just a failure to show respect to the charity and the race.

      Delete
    25. The irony in this overall discussion is multiplying.

Kate is quite capable of dressing modestly and professionally. When she does so, the critics call for her to think out of the box, dress younger, experiment, be more daring, etc.

She attended a *sporting event* in 2016 and dressed age/figure/event appropriate. These days, athletic wear is skin tight and there was nothing wrong with her choice. Photos of ladies she is told to look up to have been offered as a comparison, but they are ignored and the Kate bashing continues.

This blog was becoming more pleasant for a while there...it really was. :((

Perhaps folks could submit selfies of themselves dressed in outfits they would wear for this event and allow Kate the opportunity to offer HER feedback? Fair is fair ladies.

      Caroline in Montana: 23.21

I based it of what those people has said their approximate age is (or if they've talked about their adult kids etc). Or expect to be corrected if the person is young. A bit of stereotyping I suppose.

Ofc not all people that don't like skinny pants are old (or older!). I personally am not very fond of them. I'm not talking about liking or not liking them. I'm talking about appropriate vs not appropriate and therin lies a difference. THAT is what I'm debating here.

      Bluhare: Same!

Haha, I still don't agree. I think the fabric is thick enough not to be too tight. Just like a normal shirt fits on the top. Snug, but not leggings. No pantie lines, no camel toes, nothing. I think that is why I don't see the issue. I think wanting her to dress dressier is another topic though. That I could see another argument for (that I don't agree with even though if I was the princess I would dress dressier), but I think the commentary of it's appropiatness is a separate issue.

(Also, sorry for people who think we are harping on too much etc. The people involved in this conversation do generally enjoy a calm, collected debate even about things as silly as a pair of pants.)

Maggie - I agree that she has to dress for the world we live in. But I think what differs here is that I don't equal skintight with immodest. So I think alot of the disagreement here is because of that.
I do not think though that a pair of comfy (people mention them errand pants) skinny jeans worn a few too many times can count as clothes horsing though...

My goodness I had so many typos!! That's what I get for trying to get my Kate time in while juggling my kids! Haha!

Rebecca: Exactly! It's so much more clean and more suited for a Casual-yet-Clean look that you'd think she'd want for a "casual" royal engagement. I have skinny jeans you could wear a great jacket with and I'd be happy at a high end dinner function or something but could leave there, throw on a cute Tee with them and some sandals and be ready for a casual time hanging out on the water. I don't think we'd have so much of a "my goodness ditch the 'old' skinny jeans Kate" reaction if they were cleaner or less distressed.

Royal: I'm so sorry! I should've read the comments and actually paid better attention! :))) Then yes...TOTALLY agree with you! Haha! ;)

I would never show up looking like that at work.
I am a few years older than Kate and I can't stand her skinny jeans, so while I partly get what Rebecca is saying in this case, my dislike has nothing to do with age.

  9. That video of the two of them on the boat laughing and pointing to various things to me sums up their marriage. So uplifting to those of us who long for examples of good, solid, simple marriages in these celebrity driven times. Yes Kate is not dressed like a "Royal" but she is dressed like one of the team. I read the comments the young woman who gave her the flowers made. She said Kate talked to her about mental health, how young people need to be strong and to strengthen one another. It wasn't just a "thanks for the flowers, shake hands and move along" meeting. We are getting more glimpses into the real Kate, not a mannequin but someone who wants to be as real as her position will permit her to be.

My hope is that when autumn comes we will get lots of chances to see the "real" Kate in action, and what she is passionate about besides sailing. There has been an announcement about the mental health scheme but no engagements of late. Her clothes will always be considered - every royal lady's are - but a greater emphasis on her work will be nice - realise there were a lot of traditional royal engagements in June and some pleasing formal ones, but July has been fairly empty except for the airshow - with the queen hard at work.

      Delete
    4. There was the Somme at beginning of July as well as the NHM, the air tattoo and the private SAS. Wimbledon also seemed to be a semi official engagement as never before has she met with ball boys and others on her visits. Rebecca English mentioned four royal tours in the latter part of the year. One can assume that the Cambridges will have one of those.

      Delete
    5. Maggie - Minneapolis25 July 2016 at 23:20

In regards to the tours - it seems relatively certain at this point that the Cambridges, probably as a family, will be going to Canada for a tour. I hope they don't, to be honest, although I'd love to see the children, esp Princess Charlotte, whose personality we haven't gotten to observe much yet. Between the India tour and the Queen's birthday, we've seen Kate more than usual in the spring and summer, but many of the events haven't felt very substantive. And with another tour, it will be more of that - a lot of short, quick events with sightseeing etc. I'm afraid of it trading off quite a bit with Kate really getting going with Heads Together, since she hasn't had a mental health engagement since it's launch, and a hospice visit, etc., would be nice as well. They don't do much in August or December, which only leaves 3 months.

      Delete
    6. Royal tours are part and parcel of what they do and come st the request of the foreign office. May be fun for the public, but not so much for the Royals especially if the children are with them. Also with the Queen cutting back, royal tours will fall to the younger ones. They have not done two tours in a year before.

  13. Not sure about this one. Polo shirt - great. Everything else -not. Jeans are faded, wedges too pale and the earrings mismatched.
It must be so hard to dress for these sporty events! I think even some cropped jeans with flats would have worked better? Or maybe white jeans. It was all a bit grey

Very envious of Kate's toned arms! Does anyone else think Kate has lost a bit of weight? I thought she may have when she wore that sparkly Jenny Packham a few weeks ago that she originally wore after her wedding when she was tiny! (Sorry, not normally one to comment on anyone's body shape but I had a baby 3 months ago, really missing my pre baby body at the moment!)

    4. The only criticisms of Kate's outfit today was

1.) the jeans looked faded and not the-meant-to
be-faded kind, so that made them look a little
less appropriate for a duchess for an event at
that level. That was the first thing I noticed.
2.) the rise was so high and looked so tight
that it looked uncomfortable and distracting,
again, not an appropriate duchess fit. For
any event. A tight, tight rise like that is
      synonymous with improper fit.

I wear leggings (Vera Wang and Hug are my
favorites) and skinny jeans as go to's also.
But I think she needed to chill on the tightness of those just a tad and get newer ones that don't look faded. Faded is fine, but not there, not for a duchess. They had the Royal Standard flying.
      That ups the ante considerably.

But most of all, they looked happy and healthy and they were supporting the British bid to bring the cup home. Hummm, didn't Britain rule the seas once? (sorry, couldn't resist.)

  14. Loving Kate's gorgeous curls in the first and second pics! And it's always fun to see W&K at engagements together. She's so very slim, even in photos, the extra 15 that the camera adds doesn't seem to apply to her ;-) It's obvious she works out by the toned look of her legs and arms, but IMHO she she'd look healthier if she took a page out of Pippa's book and added a few pounds to her frame. Pipps looks fabulous - very fit, but at a better weight for her height and body type.

Well, Pippa is bigger because she's a muscle mountain! She's super strong and pure muscle. Something that clearly takes alot of work. Kate works out hard (as you can tell) but Pippa works out brutally hard and do extreme sports. Two very different time commitments and roles they train their bodies for.

  16. I love and respect all of Kate's work and I'm not a picky person when it comes to fashion but this may be a touch too casual for her role today. And, when I think about it, it's really just the jeans. Too worn, maybe a little too tight. If she were out shopping or having personal time I think it's a perfectly fine look but representing her country like she is today, she probably should've picked a newer pair of jeans.

A MINOR thing though! Hope they had fun and their attention to this sport has caused me to watch it more myself. I'd love to go on one of those boats sometime!! :)

    Hi, Charlotte,

    Thanks for the post!

Nice to see the Cambridges appearing happy and engaged!

    Just a few comments:

Kate is looking quite thin again. Maybe it's running after the children and summer sports like tennis etc.

I think the jeans need to be retired. The knees are looking quite worn. Just my opinion as it must be hard to inhabit a middling spot like Kate does-she's not really "working" on the crews but she also knows showing up in white gloves and a hat won't work either.

Is her hairdresser along with them for outfit changes? Kate has about three different hair styles during the appearance. There seems to be some fairly elaborate twisting of her hair (for the pony tail). I'm not sure how she could do this on her own under time pressure. I'm sure we'll never know.

I guess they'll disappear for some time now to go on vacation, to Balmoral maybe, etc.

    Best wishes to everyone!

I don't want to turn this into the "great Kate weight debate" ;-) but I think she looks healthy & toned! Sure she's quite slender but obviously her energy, complexion, hair, etc are all very healthy, glowing even...which is a sign that she's perfectly healthy & fine.

As someone who's thin due to genetics & an active lifestyle, I've witnessed gentle criticism ("Do you even eat?!!" Yes, you will ALWAYS find me at the food table lol.) By no means am I comparing it to the challenges an overweight person might encounter but just saying that the Duchess is thin yes, but obviously healthy & vibrant. Nothing wrong with being slender.

    4. I also follow the "What Kate Wore" site. There, it has been decided that we should not be into body shaming...whether a person is too heavy or too thin, it is not up to us to comment. Perhaps this blog needs to do likewise. Kate is thin, we know she is, we don't continually need to make remarks about it.

  32. Let me start positive :) by saying that the first close-up where she's smiling straight at the camera, her hair blowing around her, is lovely, she looks joyful and beautiful. I'm glad the fringe is on its way out... I liked it at first, but it never seemed to be styled properly and was too much of a distraction.

However, a reminder, any time a member of the RF is on the job, they are first and foremost there as a representative of the Queen, always working on her behalf, whether it's Prince Charles or Princess Alexandra. The other members of the RF assist the monarch by making these appearances and taking on patronages.

These jeans are ridiculously inappropriate for an official engagement. I've ranted enough about the skinny jeans, but add to that faded jeans, worn at the knees, seat and other creases, that look like they were sitting in a laundry basket, and it's mind boggling. As others have said there are any number of options available for her.

When she did that tennis clinic she wore nice gym pants that were athletic and appropriate and she looked great, as I said at the time.

Friends and fans of Kate are doing her no favours by letting her repeatedly leave the house like this. A good friend, or stylist, will point her in a better direction. I think she needs to research and invest in some better casual wear for events like this.

I figured Rebecca would jump in and tell me this is the young, modern thing ;) and I noticed she already pointed that out! As I said, there may be many young, modern styles or items of clothing, that doesn't mean you wear them on the job, especially this job. She is HRH the Duchess of Cambridge, married to a future King, mother to a future King.

As usual my hard hat is on and I'm ready for incoming :)

The thing is, I'm not saying it's a young thing as in "hip". I'm saying, you better get used to it. Appropriate change. Queen Mary scolded the Queen for wearing inappropriatley short skirts. Things change. That's all I'm saying.

I really cannot see anything inappropriate with a pair of normal skinny jeans. That's all I'm saying.

    2. Okay Claudia, having taken another close look at those jeans, I actually agree with you! Wow I think this is only the second time. I thought about what you said and I realized that even here in super casual (and HOT) southern Arizona I dress for different occasions and certain things I wear to walk the dog I don't wear when I am substitute teaching or going to church. So yes Claudia your point is well taken.

      Delete
    3. Have to agree on those jeans. They're at the point where I'd wear them for gardening or taking the kids to the park. Why did she bother with wedges if she was going to wear such old jeans? And much as I love skinnies, these are SO tight that sometimes when seen in silhouette they almost look indecent on her incredible figure - as if she's wearing tights or something. HOWEVER...her hair looked fabulous and she looked well-rested and incredibly beautiful. Sporty events seem to be her happy place.

    5. Rebecca, are you saying that my wish for skinny jeans to go out of style won't come true any time soon? ;-) It's a selfish hope though, as I find them ridiculously uncomfortable to wear, I don't mind Kate wearing them. And in her defence: William is wearing jeans, too. Why is it appropriate for him to do so but not for her?

      Delete
    6. I am with you, Claudia. Huge miss! Inappropriate and ridiculous!

    7. Here's my two-cents on jeans, find a pair that fit you well and you'll never want to take them off. It's not just about style changing - fabrics have changed. A stretchy jean can be your new best friend. Heavens, there are women in Silicon Valley running around in yoga pants - catching flights, showing up at work, going to the movies, etc. - I'll take a skinny jean any day versus yoga pants. :-)

I have to say, Diana would be wearing skinny jeans to this type of event as well. I am sure that sales of the sport shirt, windbreaker and jacket Kate wore will increase sales and selling apparel is important to any sports team/association.

Kate looks great! Wonderful smile, hair is beautiful today - loved her pony tail - and she's fit. No complaints IMHO.

    10. Skinny jeans are nothing more than denim tights. If you wouldn't wear tights to a place, don't wear skinny jeans.

This was her biggest miss ever in my book because she failed to represent her Queen and country in a dignified way but as wonderful as I think she truly is, I'll allow it. :) :)

      Delete
    11. In re-reading my post, I don't like that I said she didn't represent her Queen and country in a dignified way. That was too harsh and I'm not taking a pair of pants as seriously as I made it sound. :)

And, while I think skinny jeans are not appropriate professional wear, even given the setting, it's a minor point. If she thinks it's okay to wear skinny jeans I just wish it had been a newer looking pair at least. But, again, very minor point. I love them both! Well, as much as one can love strangers one has never met nor ever will. :)

      Delete
    12. I think that the jeans would have been fine if they were one size bigger and newer looking. The black is too faded and bunches up because it is too tight. Skinny jeans look great on most people if you get the right cut. She could have gone for a slightly more relaxed fit - that way it would have looked more professional and crisp. Same with the shirt. You can see it pulling at the chest area. If she had sized up the whole getup would have looked more put together.
So in theory this outfit was great but lacking in execution.

Claudia, I could not agree with you more!! When I first opened the post I thought between her hair, face and shirt she looked great and very happy:) (but if I were looking at Ben Ainslie Id be pretty darn happy too:) I then scrolled down to the dreaded "skinny jeans". I am not a fan but normally they don't look this tight on her and they did indeed look faded and almost as if they were grabbed from the top of a laundry pile (something I would do, and Im certainly no future queen consort!!!)

Rebecca, as for the "get used to it" - I just never will and though it appears to be "IN" right now doesnt mean that it MUST be worn, its like saying - "all the kids are doing it" - stupid reason to do anything.

Anon 22:29 - William does'nt look under dressed in a good pair of jeans, jeans that are Clean and Fit Right go a very long way on him. But im still keeping my fingers crossed with you on the "skinny jeans going out of style" LOL

I also did not think the wedges worked here. wish she would have stuck with the "Sport Pants" and trainers she wore last time. Now those pants looked great on her figure (sometimes Less really is More) and she looked part of the team in those trainers!

Kate truly loves sailing - she just sparkles at these events. I wonder if she goes sailing on the Norfolk Broads - it's said to be some of the best.

Congratulations to Sir Ben on the new little one. Such a lovely name. But might I suggest Vela if there is another girl - the constellation for sails and so pretty. (And if there were twins, Carina could be the other.)

I don't love Kate's outfit but didn't expect to. She has a splendid figure and if she is to wear this sort of thing - this is the event where it is appropriate to do it. I've been so happy with most of her clothes of late - can't win them all.

Kate has beautiful hair but I do like it best contained in some way - I particularly don't like seeing her constantly fiddling with it and touching it - very Hollywood, not very princess. (I do fear I'm turning into my Mum - her pet grievance she didn't hesitate to call me on - and she did have a point!) But where is Kate's Alice band when it's needed? The pony tail was an improvement but this is an occasion where she knew there would be wind.

I much preferred her very stylish shorter cut although I know I was in a minority. (While I'm at it, I also preferred Letizia of Spain's short cut, although her hair is almost always well styled.) I don't think Kate needs short hair but just something less wind-prone.

Will be wishing good fortune to Ben and crew. Heard William and Kate aren't going to the Olympics. Sorry not to see them, but very wise.

And it's not that he's not telling the girl per se, he knows it will all be told and scrutinized by the media and pepole like us. The less said the better in these occations. Vauge but friendly.

On the one hand, PW says some things that have made me cringe a little, he reminds me a little of Prince Phillip. On the other hand, if every thing I said was reported and scrutinized I'd be in BIG TROUBLE. :)

Just shows why the Queen is so fabulous - very very few less-than-perfect remarks in over 60 years! :)

    5. I didn't find it rude. I believe it was in humor. Plus think about this: William has no idea of the financial circumstances of the inquirer. It would be rude to flaunt a litany of gifts that the asker and all to whom it would be reported could only aspire to. It could be an "in your face" statement of their income inequality. William did the right thing

I saw this suggestion raised on another place. I wonder if they will have a tour in Bermuda and surrounding islands in July 2017? Just some wondering. They plan so far ahead, so maybe they when choosing this as her patronage already had plans for an island tour the coming years and will fit it into that? I mean, considering this seems to have been a rather big endevour for the UK, it wouldn't surprise me. They are undoubtebly invited to alot of places for tours but they usually seem to plan their tours around some bigger UK event and go from there (events they have no control over timing of, like the GREAT events in China etc). Or maybe Kate will even do her first solo tour since she had to pull out of the Malta one? Just some speculation ofc but it would make sense :)

    1. Call me crazy? But Didn't we hear Bermuda thrown out a while ago, as a possible Future Tour Destination? Thx for bringing it up Rebecca.... I knew the 2017 Cup is in Bermuda, but it didn't cross my mind about them going? That would be a Win/Win with maybe a BAR Win!:)

    3. Rebecca - Sweden25 July 2016 at 18:25

Anon 04.19. There were groups of kids there in connection with the charity 1851 (that is the charitable leg of BAR) which are there to get into sailing and science. These people are often choosen from different groups where kids are in risk zones or in need of activities to focus on. So I assume this person was in a way connected to a charity where support and stability is needed and that they talked about how it's so important to support eachother. These kind of lines are the other person in the conversation repeating tidbits from what the royals say to a reporter, so context is often missing.

      Delete
    4. More appropriate would have been to ask about math and science as that is what the supporting charity is supposed to be encouraging in children.

      Delete
    5. We really do not know the context of the conversation as Rebecca has pointed out. There were apparently children from other charities there as well.

      Delete
    6. I'm sure math and science came up during their tour of the facilities. The opportunities for discussing those subjects are obvious from the photos Charlotte provided.
Kate may have known one or two of the children from this or one of her other
charities. Rebecca was correct in that these youngsters come from homes and
environments that require facing situations some adults have never seen.

In such circumstances it is never inappropriate to discuss problems and coping
skills. Good for Kate. No white glove charity work for her.

bluhare I thought the EXACT same thing before seeing your comment! Good to comment on mental health, but certainly doesn't help concerns that the patronage of this charity is just to make it look better when Kate spends a lot of time with Ben Ainslie and the sailing team because she likes sailing and wants to support them. Or maybe she supports these kids involved with the charity because she likes sailing, but not because she actually thinks or is interested in whether sailing helps with math and science.

    8. Will and Kste met children from a charity ACN Havant as well, which is most likely where the mental health conversation arose.

Also Claudia. So you know, I'm not arguing with you for arguments sake :P I agree that this is not a perfect look. It would look prettier with a dark blue, solid jeans colour and darker shoes. And while I'm not gonna complain about her hair, it would seem sensible to have it up from the beginning. :)

I also disliked the wedges with it and thought the first shirt (and for that matter the jeans) looked a size too small, but I didn't want to go full Negative Nellie! I agree that jeans like Victoria or Sophie wore would have been much better.

Now enough on that! As someone said, international crisis it is not ;)

  44. I actually think these jeans are not old, since they're longer than the ones that she has often worn. I think the longer ones here look better. It's the wedges that seem off to me--the outfit was much better when she switched to sneakers. And while I'm all for appropriate, I don't see anything inappropriate about the outfit considering the event.

So about those skinny jeans...I like skinny jeans, but I agree with those above who think this pair are a bit too tight and worn for her position and this official outing. Her hair looks its usual fabulous. Kate can rock a ponytail, which was the perfect choice. However, those juvenile butterfly clips have to go.

  55. The Duchess is one strong and beautiful woman. To put up with all of the speculation, criticism and sometimes hate spewed her way without screaming or having a breakdown is proof of that. Since she is not
the Princess of Wales why do people feel the need to compare her to Diana. That is simply
unfair and unnecessary. She does not have the same resources and we are living in a completely different time.

When Prince Phillip visited the Bar/Land Rover team on Friday he wore a suit. Prince William wore jeans. Different generations with different styles. Not worse or better just different. I am certainly no royal expert but it would be a shame to see William and Kate's marriage fail due to all of the outside pressure.

I care more about them as a couple than I do about royal protocol.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I do agree, 2:30. :)

What's interesting about the Diana references is that when Kate is given credit for honoring her memory, and clearly she does, it's too much and she should be allowed to be her own woman. Yet there doesn't seem to be an issue with making comparisons when Kate gets a fashion slap from the experts. Interesting.

Did anyone consider that Kate has followed William's lead in the tone he is setting for this generation of the monarchy? He (and Harry) have taken some of the starch out of the royal closets. If Kate was married to a prince who would show up in a sports jacket and tie, I'm sure she would have dressed accordingly.

I also agree with a previous post above that if you're going to criticize Kate for wearing jeans, you've got to criticize William too. They're both in jeans. And in my laid-back, same age as them opinion, there's nothing wrong with what they wore. :)

  59. What a lovely picture of the Ainslie family!

I am the ultimate old fuddy duddy, and I think skinny jeans are ridiculous. However, those look just like new ones I see in the stores, creases and all. I think Kate looked perfectly appropriate for what she was doing, and very much like everyone around her including William. They were sure to be drenched in sea water. I would only criticize the manufacturer of the shirts. For fifty pounds, quality of constrution should be far better.

I wish comparisons with Diana would end. They are so unfair to Kate, who is her own person, living in a younger generation and a new era. As for the Queen, she is obviously well pleased with Kate. I think we need not criticize Kate on either score.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have looked at the photos. I have looked at the videos and honestly those skinnies did not look good. Yes it's an informal 'jeans are ok' event but skinnies that show every contour of your legs from top to bottom? And the silhouette with the skinnies and wedges...a big big no.

  61. Balbina - Austria25 July 2016 at 06:58

I personally think that skinny jeans have outstayed their welcome on every level. They have been around for 10 years and they are still very present all over the world. High fashion has declared them dead and buried about 5 years ago, yet they stick to our shoes like gum. I think there is a slow shift now .... Very slow indeed.

Fashion or not, I find them off for an official engagement. There are soooooo many fitted cuts that would present Kate with great alternatives; but no, skinny it is. With wedges. Sorry, but I can't get over it.

I know, I don't have to. But I am just too interested in style as not to care.

  68. So glad the weather was good this time for the sailing . Clearly made up for last years' disappointing day.
It was very evident just how much W & K enjoyed the day & it was lovely their interaction with one another throughout the visit they clearly both thoroughly enjoyed themselves & being British I am also delighted Ben Ainslie's team came first. I thought Kate was appropriately dressed for the days events.
Changing the subject I am pleased Pippa has become engaged it will be interesting how much press coverage there is now the immediate event has died down. There was certainly considerable coverage especially in the DM for the first couple of days.
I wonder how much Pippa will try to outdo Kate she has certainly tried her best at major events like the christening of George & Charlotte & attending Sandringham Church at Xmas to outshine Kate & I suspect she may well continue in the same vein. It will be interesting to see what sort of wedding she decides on I think George will be page boy but Charlotte might be too young to take part and I doubt Kate will be the Matron of Honour. Judging by the article the DM wrote on Jamses Matthews parents if true I think the relationship between Carole & Michael and them could be interesting!!

Obviously Pippa wants to look her best when attending events like family christenings and I can't see why this is trying to outdo Kate. They seem to have a very close relationship, which is nice to see. Of course the Royal family would like Ben Ainslie's team to do well, but remember that the Queen is also Queen of other countries beside the United Kingdom.

    2. Maggie - Minneapolis25 July 2016 at 22:42

I don't think Pippa is trying to outdo her sister - it seems like they aren't competitive and rather are very supportive of each other. Lets also not forget that Poppa has had to sacrifice a LOT for her sister's relationship to William - she can't bring her significant other (until now) to family vacations and events like christenings, she receives a ton of unwanted attention but no security or royal perks, and she doesn't have as much freedom career-wise as most women do. And the Middletons have always put Kate first it seems in terms of understanding William's lack of flexibility with certain things. I'm sure kate realizes this and is grateful and is happy if her sister at least gets to look nice at royal events. Plus I wouldn't be surprised if Carole and Kate have an understanding of sorts (until now) that once Kate got married, Pippa should maybe look better because she still needed to find a husband.

You asked about the hairstyles. In terms of looks, I like the windswept look. But in terms of practicality, you are correct, the pony tail is best for the windy conditions.

Having said that, my favorite looks are from the early days and the S Pacific tour in particular where Catherine's natural curls were shown. At this engagement, in my opinion, because of the casual nature of the event it would have been an opportunity to go natural without having to confront a host of people deeming it not "princess".

  72. Kate has an incredible figure and I see no problem at all with her outfit. I see women with high heels and skinny jeans like the ones she was wearing all of the time.

I always say that if a woman's husband is ok with how she looks who are we to judge. William is the heir and I am sure he would say something if he thought her jeans inappropriate. Btw, I love the fact that William

Goodness, William doesn't own Kate. He has no more of a right to judge her clothing than we do, and he certainly doesn't need to be going to events to show that Kate is his (nor do I think he is).
If we didn't comment on Kate's clothes, we'd have very little to talk about. Especially during the summer - she might have been out in May and June more than usual, but most of the events were royal/birthday events or sports, and have had very little substance to them. This is not criticism, it's just fact that there isn't much else to talk about with Kate lately.

  75. Weighing in on the dress code debate. I thought she looked fine. Its a sporting event, and the surroundings did not appear to be very formal - though I was not there. Still, given that she has been to this same event a couple of times I trust she knew how close the public would be and what those directly associated with the event would see and expect. She's always been appropriate so I have to assume she felt with this knowledge what she wore would not let anyone down. So, I am giving her the benefit of the doubt. As for my own opinion, I thought she looked sporty, sparkly and sharp. I don't need her to wear what I would wear, so personal taste issues on wedges and skinny jeans don't mater much for me. So, in sum, no problems for me whatsoever.

Kate herself looked nice. She clearly enjoys sailing and was in her element here. I do hope that in general she and William start doing more solo appearances soon, because it's been mostly joint all year, and when they are doing as few engagements as they tend to do, it's especially important to divide and conquer.
Now for the clothes - these skinny jeans, esp paired with the wedges, are unprofessional and inappropriate for any royal event imo. Not all skinny jeans necessarily, but these are just so tight and faded.
It's so funny to me how much certain people contradict themselves in the process of defending Kate. At the air show, when it made no sense to wear a dress that would inevitably hike up and show a lot of leg due to having to get in and out of planes and having to bend up and down for her son, people were insistent that as patron, she had to look nice. Well here, what happened? She's patron. She obviously had to dress to go out on a boat, but that doesn't require skin tight, worn looking jeans. And now people are saying she's following William's lead in dressing. But for the air show, people were saying that of course she had to look less casual than him bc she was patron, not him. Well doesn't that apply to this as well? I'm just not sure it's ever appropriate for a royal to appear in public on an official outing wearing clothes that show off every single curve, contour, etc. of their legs. She might as well be wearing tights here.
Anyways, even if the jeans looked nicer, the top seems a size too small, although maybe would look more appropriate with non-skinny jeans, and the wedges don't match. I also don't understand her hair or her shoes. Of course she would need a ponytail - why not just start off that way instead of having to take time during an engagement to do your hair twice? And of course she would need sneakers, not to mention they look better with the outfit, so why not just start off wearing them? The wedges only make sense (although not in this color) if she wanted to wear them to look nicer for the awards like last year, but at the point where she is even wearing the sneakers for the awards, what is the point of starting off in the other shoes? I just don't understand how an event can be casual enough for skin-tight, faded jeans, but un-casual enough to require 2 hair changes and a shoe change (even if they don't take that long, neither does finding nicer pants).

    1. Rebecca - Sweden26 July 2016 at 00:33

I was one of the patron excuse people. My thinking is that at the air event, the people she is patron too was in proper military uniform (including skirts) and at this event they were in either pants and tshirt (for the kids) or sport clothes (for the sailors). Different events. She would not have looked inappropriate in pants for the air show (nice pants, not jeans!) nor would she have looked inappropriate more princessy dressed at this event (maybe on the boat). But I think the events are different enough to not have the "excuses" contradict themselves.

I also would like if the fit of the pants was better, better colour etc. But I dont think it was inappropriate. I think there is a difference between "I don't think this is pretty" and "I think this is really inappropriate" :)

For the shoe and hair thing I have no explanations :P Maybe that she feels the most good looking in flowing hair and heels so want that "umph" in the beginning where the nerves are the worst? No clue there :P

Unlike some, I don't think that disagreement on here equates negativity or hate. As long as we're respectful, different opinions make it a much more interesting place to be. Personally, I find it really boring when all the posts say "Perfection!" and "I love it!" or "She knocked it out of the park!" So I hope we can continue to voice differing opinions--I know Charlotte doesn't publish anything hateful. The reason I visit this wonderful blog is because I really do love Kate and her family but that doesn't mean that I love everything she wears or every choice that she makes. I do have critical thinking skills and a voice of my own and I will continue to (respectfully) use them here and hope that others will continue to do the same. --Christine in Canada

  84. HI Again Team Charlotte!:) I'm back with another little known point, but a Biggy for Ben Ainslie! Google "Buddy Melges" The Only Man to Have Won Olympic Gold & The America's Cup! If Range Rover BAR Wins & Brings The Cup Home? Then Ben Becomes only The 2nd Sailor To Win Both Olympic Gold & The America's Cup! The Only One Currently Holding This Title is This Dear Man in his 80's who grew up on our Lake, Delavan Lake, Wisconsin/Wiki says Lake Geneva, which is Currently True as an Adult, but he grew up & learned to sail on Delavan! The lakes are close together & I know Many Families, including Our Family Sails at Both Lakes & it's True He's Called "The Wizard of Zenda" which is a Tiny Tiny Wisconsin Town, in the middle of Farm Fields... No Gas Station, Church or Store....But it Boasts The Boating Manufacturing Company of "Melges" Boats, Sailed Competitively World Wide, by little kids in their Opti's & it's Larger Boats are Sailed Competitively Around The World. Zenda is Also Home To "NorthSails" Making Sails for Boats Sailed Round The World, For The America's Cup Boats & Many Many Olympic Sail Boats! During The Summer Olympics keep your eyes out for the Blue & White Logo of "NS" (NorthSails). Yes "Zenda" is a Tiny Quiet Town, but it's Products are in The Spotlight Around The Globe!:) "Buddy Melges" was inducted into "The America's Cup Hall of Fame" in 2001. If Ben's Team Wins...... He Will beat Buddy's Record & That's Pretty Impressive!

  85. I agree. I find almost nothing wrong with her usually but this outing is the exception. I REALLY don't like admitting this, but I don't think people in her position should wear things that show every little body curve and contour. And I'm not being sexist. Imagine if Willuam wore jeans so tight we saw all the gingerbread and everything! :-o

I say wear what you want privately but while working, be more conservative.

And, this time, unlike a few other occasions, I don't understand the need to show up in one pair of shoes and then slip into another later. I would understand it much more if she'd arrived in less casual pants and shirt but then changed to these (innapropriate skinnies) but why arrive with your feet all dressed up but the rest of you in ill-fitting clothes then change only your shoes?

Maybe she was tired from the weekend (George's party) and threw this together with not enough thought?

  87. The tattoo engagement was more formal than the sailing. Even William was dressed more formally. She met the cadets and their leaders. She climbed into one plane and from what I read this was to appease George. She dressed exactly the same way at the last racing meet and received the same criticism and support she is now. Guess her people don't read the comment section of this blog as so many believe. Otherwise she would not have come out dressed the same way.

  88. Here's a theory on the changes in hairstyle. A ways back it was explained that when Catherine had to bounce from event to event, she would perhaps keep her coat on, and take it off at the next stop or swap out some accessory. This was to distinguish the events in photos and make those in the pictures feel as if they got more attention. This event seems to have been split into segments. I think the hairstyles and change in footwear, adding the jacket follows that pattern. When one looks back through the photos, you know what is happening via these visual clues. Seems smart to me.
