Watch 'Together at Christmas'

I'm popping in for just a moment on this Boxing Day evening to quickly share a link to Kate's carol service 'Together at Christmas'. With thanks to Melissa for sending me the link. It's a splendid watch which I have no doubt you'll enjoy :)

I hope you're all enjoying the festivities!

  8. It was a lovely service, poignant yet hopeful and thoughtful in so many ways. Catherine does seem to be a thoughtful and detailed person. What a lovely way to bring people together at the holidays, and a lovely tribute to HLM Queen Elizabeth II. Merry Christmas!

  12. Even though I'm American and don't celebrate Christmas, I found this concert to be beautiful. The music was gorgeous and I appreciated the care with which the program was put together with many different elements that kept the entire event feeling fresh and interesting. I liked the personal vignettes on tape from famous people like Judi Dench and I liked the inspirational sit-down conversation Kate had with citizens whose photos were included on the tree and I appreciated the readings. Loved the choirs of Scotland, Wales, and Ireland joining in alternating choruses of the same carol. Really well done!!

I also admired Kate's demeanor at the concert. She didn't put herself front and center to demand attention. Everyone knew it was her concert. She let the focus be on the program itself. Well done!!

As an observation but not at all a criticism, I was struck by how religious this concert was. Yes, I realize the concert was held in a church. Yes, there is an actual official religion in the UK. In America, there would have been less "Jesus" because there is no official religion and there is an awareness that many citizens worship differently, such as Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, etc. As Britain has become more diverse, do you think that future concerts will need to acknowledge that diversity of religions by including references to the other holidays being celebrated by fellow-countrymen and women?

    1. Considering this was a Christmas service and the true Christmas holiday started to celebrate the birth of Jesus, I doubt that it will become less religious. Nor do I hope it will as Christmas has become more commercial. Other religions mentioned above don't celebrate Christmas and again this was a Christmas service not all the holidays in December. I think that would need to be a separate celebration from this.

    2. Christmas is a Christian holiday, and should be celebrated as such, fully. Those of other faiths are welcome to join in as welcomed guests. Just as one would hope that Christians would be invited to celebrate the traditions of others as well, without expecting anyone else to “water down” their services. In fact, I very much doubt that any changes of that sort would occur amount the Jews, Muslims, or Buddhists that you mention. All are deserving of respect. We don’t have to try and change each other.

    3. It was a Christmas service. When I attend my Christmas services, we do not incorporate other religion aspects as part of a Christian service.

Hi Anon 20:30 , Christians celebrating the birth of Jesus in a church is the sole purpose Christmas. The other commercial add-ons for Christmas are secular and cultural. I would not expect a specific religious celebration to be inclusive of my beliefs.

  17. Hi Charlotte, do you know if the Boxing Day Shooting tradition was continued? I was curious also if there was any other tidbits about the holiday that may have differed with Charles now Head of the Family.

    1. Hello, I believe it went ahead. The most significant change will see the King and Queen Consort depart for Birkhall soon rather than staying on in Sandringham as the late Queen preferred.

  19. There is such a good feeling when you see the PoW and what she does. There is also a light and airy spirit whether she’s out and about, in the photographs that she releases or when reading about the work she does. May 2023 be merry and bright for her and her family, and may she receive the love and support she needs to carry on the good work.
I also want to take the opportunity to say thank you to you Charlotte for all the hard work you put in throughout the year. As I’ve said before, this blog is a happy place for me, and it’s all because of you. Thank you again.
Wishing you and your loved ones, and all the readers here a blessed 2023.

  25. Dear Charlotte,
have you got any information when we will see Kate again? Does she have any engagement for this or next week?

    2. Hope all is well with you Charlotte. You are usually at lighting speed to report on an outing, even if it means a ‘first look.’ But not having a post is concerning.
The delay also goes to show how much your work is appreciated 😊
