I'm just quickly dropping in to say that while I've never been a great fan of Erdem's prints, I love the retro lines of this suit and have been hoping to find something similar for myself (though not at this price point). The reverse print on the skirt's lining is a charming touch, and this style of hat is the perfect accessory.
ReplyDeleteThe print really is a bit twee for my tastes ("twee" is one of those useful British words for which there's no precise one-word American equivalent), but the suit's silhouette really is to die for. Brava.
I believe twee has crossed the great Atlantic and I very much understand what that translates to in terms of fashion/design and it describes this Erdem set to a tee! Twee is twee!

ReplyDeleteI come for the fashion, so... :) My first glance says it's quite pretty. Nice to see some kind of print. I think she and Meghan were having a contest to see who could avoid a print for the longest! I'm very tired of red and pretty tired of white and black. The blue is soothing. Not sure if the high ruffle is best with the very long skirt, but the bottom of the skirt seems to flap a bit, so that's nice. I think a black hat would have been better.
ReplyDeleteHa, I guessed the designer just looking at the dress! I know some people are going to say it’s too busy, but this is one of the rare Erdem’s that I like, even with all that’s going on with it. She looks amazing; I just wish the hat was a better match - that brighter blue seems to clash with the deep midnight shade of the suit.

ReplyDeleteI love this .It's the first service without the Queen and this "Edwardian -my fair lady" themed outfit fit the semi-mourning aspect of the service .The blue hat is a nod to the funeral .
ReplyDeleteKate looks beautiful. Elegant updo & hat are great. I respect that she wore a more muted color than Camilla (perhaps in order to have Camilla take precedence visually?). However, in my opinion, Kate's outfit was too dark, too dowdy, too 1950's for a young beautiful princess to wear in 2023. I often dislike Erdem's designs. I'm certainly not a fan of this skirt and jacket.

ReplyDeleteThis is a huge miss for my taste. Something I would wear at age 72 on Catherine is a “no”. It’s beautifully tailored, but the twee print ( yes, Vittoria!) is too much. I know the princess loves her peplums and 1950s housewife prints though. The hat is an off pairing too. I suppose the shape is of an era with peplum suits. In the first photo I saw it looked like an entirely clashing shade of blue but seems darker in this photo. All in all, very Lady Mayor’s Wife Opens the Village Fete 1954.

ReplyDeleteI love this whole look but the one thing I wish is that the V stitching (darts?) on the bust were in navy instead of white and so noticeable.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'm crazy about this lovely retro look but the stitches look out of place with the outfit. While the outfit looks dressy the stitching is to casual, almost western looking. Doesn't fit the look. Actually look like they belong on a cheaper looking outfit..
DeleteI agree Bridget! I don't think in all these years I've ever mentioned anything I didn't like, about what Kate was wearing!??? However, I'm finding this stitching really distracting! I love everything else & Kate looks absolutely Beautiful.... but that stitching is just pulling at my eyes, every time I see her!
DeleteAnon 21:07, your suggestion is really good. Perhaps if it was in a navy, to match the fabric, it wouldn't stand out so much.
It's a little thing & I feel so strange saying anything negative..... but I think the ensemble would be flawless without the stitching showing. Just my 2 cents.
So strange to not have the Queen here.... however, it's exciting to know the Coronation is around the corner!

ReplyDeleteThe stitching is intended to be noticeable, to emphasize the corset, or basque, effect of the very fitted jacket. Some people like that effect; others don't. I rather do.

ReplyDeleteThis is a miss for me. Love the material, the fun idea of it but this outfit does not do Kate justice. The top has a false high waist which is far too short. From the back you can see two waists - the jacket and inches down, the waist of the skirt. When she walks, there is a big gap between the length of the jacket and her thigh. What could be a wonderful silhouette is chopped up and jarring. Perhaps extending the jacket to a more natural waistline would be more flattering.
ReplyDeleteThe suit is fun, but proportionally askew. The jacket waistline is inches higher than Kate's actual waist. From the back you can see two waists- that of the shortened jacket, and further down, the waist on the skirt. When Kate walks, you see the waist, the end of the jacket, and a long gap to her thigh. If the jacket waist and peplum was extended to represent Kate's natural waist you would have a better flow to the entire ensemble. Love the fabric, usually love Kate's style but this was jarring.
