Mother's Day Photos of Kate with the Children

Hello and Happy Mother's Day to all celebrating! For those of us who are fortunate enough like myself to spend the day with our mums, treasure it. Kensington Palace marked the day by releasing two lovely new photographs of Kate with the children. Taken by Matt Porteous at Sandringham, an accompanying message read: "Happy Mother's Day from our family to yours."

A darling photo of Kate with her baby -- Louis.

If the summery Norfolk scene is familiar it's because the photos are from the same photoshoot as the Waleses' Christmas card 2022.

The Princess wore her M.I.H. Jeans Mabel shirt with blue jeans. Below, Kate wearing the piece during the 'Back to Nature' display at RHS Chelsea in 2019.

The broderie anglaise piece features scallop trim on the neck and puffed sleeves. The delicate floral detail is a striking element in the piece.

And her Superga Cotu Sneakers. They are available at Nordstrom.

Kate accessorised with her £18 Orelia London earrings. They are currently back in stock here.

Before I sign off for today, I was incredibly touched by the warmth and generosity of your comments over the past two days. There is such a close-knit community of readers here; I appreciate every one of you.

  1. Oh these pictures are adorable! I thought the outfits looked familiar. What a happy family. All the children are growing so fast. It will be fun to see where their journeys lead as they get older. Thank you Charlotte! Love this community where we can share and talk to others all over the globe. Appreciate all you do Charlotte!! ❤️

  2. I really like the group photo and can forgive the fact that the photo is quite 'old' now: they've had an awful lot happen in their lives since last summer. I hesitated a moment over the Louis photo; it's absolutely darling but releasing a group photo of all the children and another photo with just one of the children felt a bit odd. I'm certain that the kids are loved equally but rumours about favourites among QEII's children have been persistent for decades and I think it's something that can be very damaging. But then I thought, we've seen George and Charlotte (individually and together) at other events (presumably because of the different ages and/or interests) so maybe it isn't unbalanced after all to issue a photo just with Louis. I'm totally overthinking it!

We've seen so many photos taken in a garden setting. I hope one day soon we'll get to see one taken in a different setting. I'm looking forward to seeing the next round of birthday photos in the spring.

    1. I also think the composition of the photo focuses on Kate as a mother, less on who she is holding, which would be appropriate for the day. It reminds me of moments like this I have had with my own children.

    2. Yes, good point.

    3. Louis is the baby of the family and for that reason there will be a different focus on him. My four children are all in their 40s, but they still tease the youngest one for getting so much more attention. They are not jealous, they are all just having fun. They realize that every position in the family is individual and brings different dynamics.

    4. Annon 20:31 So true, I come from a large family and every child has a different but in some ways the same family experience...in most healthy families there is not jealousy about differences in raising the different kids and certainly not about how many special photos there are:) ali

    5. I have individual pictures with my youngest baby still and he’s 17. My oldest of course for many years was my only child and then probably more photos after second cold was born were to get her photos and so on. However I have always and still do have pictures taken individually with each child and also my hubby and I have always individually taken each child on events and days out. No jealousy from any of them.

  8. I love the picture of the family of five walking. You can draw a perfect diagonal line from the top of the head of Prince George down to Prince Louis. One day this will change, but for now the children and the height difference is really cute. GA

  13. Wonderful Photos. Love the group in the tree. Agree it would be nice if they shared more recent pic but get not subjecting the kids to lots of photography sessions is good, especially now that they are all doing more events. Ali

  15. I don't know what it was, but every time I tried, in my fashion-experimenting youth, to wear anything made out of broderie anglaise (or eyelet) fabric, I always ended up looking like I was Marie Antoinette pretending to be a milkmaid or something. It never looked natural on me.

However, the Princess manages to carry it off, and I do think that's a feat, because I wouldn't recommend this fabric for most people over the age of 30. I think the fact that the sweet embroidery and scalloped trim of the blouse are balanced by jeans and trainers helps.

Nice pictures of the Princess with her children. On this first day of spring, I suddenly feel an impulse to go climb a tree.

    1. Hi Vittoria, you were in my thoughts when I read the Mothers Day Post - and I’m not sure if it is Mothers Day in the US. If it is - I’m sure this day is filled with cherished memories.
Catherine, is wonderful at everything she does. But, her finest times of motherhood will be both in casual times like these, and the exquisite behaviour of her 3 at the Queen’s Jubilee balcony. These memories of her mothering talents were on display for the world to see - and she was amazing.
I purchased 2 broderie anglaise in hot pink and teal this past Australian summer. I’m clearly following the Princess in fashion 😂😂 Sending some Aussie love your way. Dee x

    2. Thank you, Dee. We celebrate Mother's Day in the US on the second Sunday in May, but of course I was thinking of my own mother when I noted that the UK was celebrating Mothering Sunday. This will be a difficult Mother's Day for me and my siblings, that's for certain. I appreciate your kind words.

    3. You’re very welcome Vittoria, our Mother’s Day is the 2nd Sunday in May in Australia too. I’m missing my dear Mum terribly, this is such a difficult time of our lives. xx

  19. A lovely photo of Catherine and the children. I do like the more casual photo settings, it helps make the smiles more natural, I think.

Also ... I started following (and have ordered) from the Carousel Jewels website after Catherine wore a beautiful pair of aquamarine earrings by them a while back. I love their sustainability story and I love to support women owned businesses (and the earrings and other jewelry range from big to small so there is something for everyone). Some of their jewelry was worn on Bridgerton Season 2 and they sent out an email yesterday that several of their pieces are currently available at the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of the new Donatello exhibition. I just thought it was something that might be of interest to other readers of this blog.

  21. I'm commenting late but was very glad to read you had a technical error rather than a human error -- although it is so frustrating to lose all your work!

I'm in the previous post, remembering a very attractive short coat of this color. It was just so pretty. Are shorter skirts not "in" now, or are a variety of lengths fashionable? Allison in US

  22. I hope you publish my comment, because for some reason, whenever I comment on this blog, my comments are never published. I loved Kate Middleton's style about ten years ago, but her clothes are so boring now! I don't understand why. I hope she goes back to the glamour and fun styles of her younger years, and hires a stylist that can add verve to her ensembles. She had a classic, British, preppy style several years ago that was an inspiration. Now, when I see her, her clothes seem quite dowdy and boring. Go back to your old styles Kate!
