Vote for Kate's Best Tour Earrings & A Fantastic Giveaway from StyleRocks!

Hello, hello to you all!

Are you having a good week? We're back with a very special giveaway from our friends at StyleRocks. Before we take a look at the brand's gorgeous jewellery, we're looking back over Kate's selection of earrings during the Canada tour and asking you to vote for your favourite in our final Canada Tour Poll.

The Duchess brought an array of earrings with her to Canada. From staples in her own collection suitable for the itinerary's varied events, to a loan from the Queen and items supporting Canadian designers, we saw a nice mix. For the Cambridges' arrival in Canada, Kate chose her Tanzanite Teardrop Earrings by G. Collins & Sons to complement her look.

On the second day of the tour, the Duchess wore a pair of pearl and diamond earrings loaned by the Queen. The amazing Anna noted: "The Countess of Wessex wore these only one time to a royal wedding in 2012 (while wearing other jewels on loan from the Queen). HM wore these back in 1977 during her silver jubilee."

In Bella Bella, Kate completed her casual ensemble with a new pair of earrings by Canadian-born designer Pippa Small. The £850 Large Kite Double Drop Earrings are described as: "An ode to the kites that fly through out South Asia for the annual kite festivals, the kite is such a simple joy of childhood. The triumph of that thin paper taking off in a gust of breeze up into the sky, the ducking and twirling up there in the sky with the birds. The 18 kt Gold kites flutter on these beautiful double drop earrings."

Kate selected her £130 Soru Jewellery Baroque Pearl Double Sided Earrings for an evening reception at Government House.

In Kelowna, Kate sported a stirking new pair of Monica Vinader earrings. The £125 Siren Wire earrings are described as "organic, irregular shaped multi-faceted green onyx gemstone is encased in 18ct gold-plated vermeil on sterling silver". Queen Letizia also owns a pair, making these quite the royal favourite.

Kate wore her favourite Annoushka Pearl Drops with Kiki McDonough Hoops.

In Carcross, the Duchess wore the Large Bronze Modern Ulu Earrings by local Yukon designer Shelley MacDonald. The handmade earrings are available to purchase on Shelley's Etsy Page.

Kate wore her Kiki McDonough Lauren earrings for the children's party.

Kate also wore her trusty Kiki McDonough Citrine Drops.

Now we've taken a look at Kate's Canada earrings, it's time to take a look at jewels you could win for yourself and a friend. The lovely Pascale from StyleRocks has outdone herself with this - the HRH Duchess Kate Refer a Friend Giveaway -  offering the winner and their friend $500 AUD each to spend as they wish on the StyleRocks website.

How would you spend your prize if you won? Let's take a look at the possibilities on offer. StyleRocks was founded to enable customers to customise fine jewellery online - it's very much about being able to personalise jewellery exactly to your taste - and with that comes an abundance of choice. The brand's selection of Cocktail Rings offer an array of gemstones, metals and cuts.

Below, the Pink Sapphire Cocktail Ring - which is one of the brand's most popular pieces and the Cushion Checkerboard Sapphire Cocktail Ring. Both stunning pieces which would add a vibrant splash of colour to any look - especially with the winter season ahead.

StyleRocks

Rings make for wonderful gifts and one may choose according to birthstone, significance of the gemstone, or simply because one feels it is the prettiest. The Lapis Lazuli Sterling Silver Cabochon Cocktail Ring is one such ring. Lapis lazuli is believed to stimulate intellect and represent friendship. We see the ring beside the Round Brilliant Cut Emerlad Sterling Silver Cocktail Ring; the green is a beautiful, rich hue.

Style Rocks

There are a number of beautiflul bracelets available, including the Pink Pearl Bracelet with Sterling Silver Heart Clasp, the Four Stone Oval Pink Sapphire Bangle and the Rose Gold Plated Double White Pearl Steel Bangle.

StyleRocks

StyleRocks' Russian Ring Necklaces (as worn by Cate Blanchett) also make for stellar gifts. They can be personalised with the name of the recepient or include a quote which holds a special meaning. Below we the necklaces in mini, midi and maxi.

Pascale wrote a piece on the StyleRocks blog discussing why the necklaces have proven so popular: "These necklaces have a symmetry, a roundedness, a classical component which makes them so elegant. And what the picture doesn’t show, but real life does, is a fluidity as the rings move and roll around each other." Below, the Charlotte in sterling silver, rose gold and yellow gold.

StyleRocks

Russian Wedding Rings are a timeless symbol of love. The "Gemelle" six-ring Russian wedding ring, made of 9 carat yellow gold, takes its inspiration from the classic Russian wedding ring, demonstrating family and unity. We also see the ring in rose gold and white gold.

StyleRocks

All of the rings are fully customisable through metal, engraving and font. The Juno ring in multi gold shown below is a particularly lovely example.

StyleRocks

While considering Kate's signature style when it comes to earrings, the Detachable Drops collection very much stood out. Detachable drops are a fantastic way to expand one's collection using hoop earrings you already have. My personal favourites are the Checkerboard Earrings - the Ruby and Green Amethyst are two great staple pairs.

StyleRocks

A 'very Kate' style - the Cushion Checkerboard Gemstone Drop Diamond Earrings.

StyleRocks

A selection from the detachable drops collection: the Morganite Checkerboard Earrings, White Quartz Checkerboard Earrings, Blue Topaz Round Brilliant Earrings and Prehinte Round Brilliant Drops.

StyleRocks

Pearls are a staple in every collection and I couldn't finish without taking a look at classic pearl pieces and designs with a twist. Below, the simple but classic Double Pearl Tribal Earrings, the 'very Kate' Diamond Hoop 14ct Yellow Gold Earring with Pearl and the Sapphire Cushion Checkerboard Studs With Drop Pearl. We also see the Long White Pearl Necklace, the White Pearl Bracelet in Yellow Gold Clasp and the White Button Pearl Ring.

StyleRocks

Not forgetting our male readers, StyleRocks offers a wide and varied range of custom cufflinks to suit all tastes. From Square Peridot Cufflinks to Golf Ball Silver Cufflinks and Tennis Ball Cufflinks, there's something for everyone. Cufflinks make a great gift for the men in your life, and the customisable options make it all the more personal.

StyleRocks

This infographic offers nifty nuggets of information and statistics regarding the brand. Particular items of note: 100% of customers surveyed loved their StyleRocks jewellery and 82% of customers rate the brand as 9/10 or 10/10.

  1. Thank you Charlotte for the post and give away.
Just a comment on the issues under discussion on the last post. My personal view is that Beatrice and Eugenie need to decide what they are going to do with their lives and being a fringe royal seems like a poor option. Princess Margaret's children did not have full time positions and all the cousins in this generation are in the same position. Zara Tindall seems to have the mix right- she is also a blood line princess (by family choice undesignated).
Both William and Harry have engaements this week which seems to belie the work shy comments. I get all the comments about visibility but do we need hourly/ daily update that the media would like to fill their 24 hour news cycle?

I think that time has moved on and that once the present Queen has gone there need to be some changes made to bring things more into line. Inherited privilege doesn't fit very well with modern democracy. That doesn't necessarily mean we get rid of monarchy as a system. I personally feel that electing a president isn't necessarily the best way to run a country. However I do feel we need to streamline the numbers and restrict the Royal family to just a few people. The others have every opportunity to get a good education and can contribute by working in whatever field they prefer. We should also should allow the younger ones the opportunity to bring up their young family while doing a lesser number of official duties. In my opinion it is not a good idea to expect them to bring up children using Nannies as much as the present Queen did. However it should be understood that if any family member is funded directly or indirectly by the tax payer, then a minimum of "work" needs to be done and once their children are older then the work load increases.
I would certainly support the abolition of the need to have to curtsey or bow to people who have so called "royal blood." They are no better or worse than anyone else and should be judged on their personal attributes and behaviour. The Duke and Duchess of York certainly don't deserve any special consideration. Their past behaviour has been appalling. I feel sorry for their daughters but the best thing would be for them to put their heads down and get on with life without hankering after the perks of a privileged existence.

I believe your viewpoint would be a well-received one - the issue of equality is being raised more and more, even outside of the traditional republican perspective. The monarchy has always adjusted to changing times. It will be a delicate balance though of maintaining the traditions and pageantry while removing some of the deference by birth and still not making members too ordinary or too celebrity-like.

As for Beatrice and Eugenie, I wish they would find careers that suit them - and be less willing to take advantage of every opportunity of jet set life presented to them - a trait unfortunately inherited from their parents. If there was a usefulness for them in royal life, that opportunity was missed.

    3. No news of Eugenie and her boyfriend breaking up as far as I know. Beatrice, yes. Eugenie, no.

quite right, Julia and Annette ! as a French, I do wish we could have, instead of an electec president, a head-of-state who would be a true symbol of the country without any political thoughts ! that would help the country spirit not to be spoilt by any of the terrible discussions we hear and see now, in view of presidential elections ...... regarding who should be considered royal and who should not ... if we look at Princess Ann's decision regarding her children not to wear any title, she was ever so wise ! she understood a lot about the position of the children and their need to accomplish what they want to . the York family seems quite "backward spirited" , thinking that having a queen as a mother and grand-mother is enough to ask for respect and curtsey, which is not right nowadays ! personnal qualities come first, whatever the birth ! at the same time, I can understand how difficultit must have been for Charles and William not to be able to choose their life .....

    5. As an American, I believe that our founders were correct in not devising an American monarchy. It is true that elections are vitriolic, but once elected the president is both head of state and head of government. The first lady supervises official entertaining and the White House. Well, Hillary says she'll do that if elected, since she is a first lady emeritus! And she promises to preserve and defend the White House vegetable garden. :-) As Michelle Obama said in reply the other day, "First ladies rock!" She also said that it has been a great honor to serve as our first lady for eight years. Note the word 'serve.' My point is that the symbolic nature of head of state is not lost but reinvested with each new presidency. And each new president and first lady have a core of advisors who have 'been there and done that' to call on. We love to host royalty now and then; the Queen is a treasured guest. But presidents also come to call and represent their countries, and discuss policy. The structure of our presidency is a further step in streamlining that has been appropriate here.

    6. Reading about something completely different, I came across the title 'emerita.' And of course I realized I should have written 'first lady emerita' above. Only I had never seen the feminine form, probably because no one ever uses it. Thanks to the writer who taught it to me! 20:23

  3. Are these the earrings Kate borrowed from the Queen or are they a similar pair? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3636227/The-Queen-pearls-dazzling-jewellery-owns-pair-pearl-earrings-given-beloved-grandmother-Queen-s-favourite.html

    1. No, those are various pairs of the Queen's inherited earrings that she always wears. The pearls are all larger than the pair Kate and Sophie borrowed, which the Queen wore only once in public.

    2. So the pearl and diamond earrings Kate wore in the third photo above are not the Queen's or are they?

Thank you Charlotte for all your amazing work! This giveaway is wonderful! I don't wear a lot of jewellery except for earrings and I love some of StyleRocks examples. I think I would get some white gold hoops so that I could invest in some of the checkerboard drop earrings, they are all so beautiful. Though I could be persuaded to get pearls, the pearl earrings are beautiful as well.

Oh my goodness what a fun post! Choosing favorite earrings is so much fun.

And thank you for this wonderful opportunity to win some beautiful jewelry. I just spent a lot of time looking at the Style Rocks website. There is so much to choose from. I would have to choose between some Blue topaz earrings or pear earrings...or maybe a ring...lol

  8. The Tanzanite Teardrop Earrings Kate is wearing does not match the close-up view. Those have a decoration on the top that the ones in her ears do not have.

Anyway, my favorite are the Annoushka Pearl Drops. Simply elegant.

I wonder if the top detail is removable to make the earrings simpler for day. I love tanzanite and it is a becoming colour on Kate but don't love her earrings as much as the pendent. Something about the shape of them. I choose the Canadian earrings because I do think it is nice to use local designers and talent on a visit, although all the choices were very nice.

I admit I don't share email addresses of friends - it's just me - but the giveaway is an exciting opportunity and the jewellery is lovely. Best of luck for all those participating.

Thank you for the giveaway! I would love to win since my sister and friend is pregnant with her first child and I would be delighted to give jewelry to her as a maternity gift. She could even put the name of her son in a StyleRocks jewel! As for me, I think I would purchase pearl earrings or maybe a necklace or even better, a russian rings ring...

  11. I voted for the Tanzanite. Just gorgeous, that whole outfit was stunning. I believe as time goes by, the Royal Family will be streamlined. They are still a great PR asset to England, but the notion of great privilege and entitlement is becoming outdated. That is just my opinion of course, however I still believe they bring in far more than they take.

  24. We had had some questions as to where Kate's sister, Pippa, might be getting married. Apparently, according to many media sources, Pippa will be getting married in the Middleton family church, St. Mark's in Englefield, about 15 minutes from Bucklebury, where Kate grew up, and about 25 minutes from Newbury where Michael and Carole have their current house. The media says that Pippa will have the wedding reception at her parent's estate there in Newbury, with a guest list of 150 people.
St. Mark's church is where William and Kate attended
services with Kate's family in 2012.

  26. This is a serious question to the readers of this blog from around the world. There was a lovely article tonight about the State Banquet for the President of Columbia and his wife. It made me stop to wonder if after Queen Elizabeth dies will future elected leaders of countries from around the world bother with this sort of interaction with the British Royal family or will the focus be on the political leaders of the UK? Queen Elizabeth is in the unique position to have actually been a transitional part of from the Royal Family having some real sway in the UK to their really only being window dressing at this point. I am an American so maybe the Royal Family actually has some political sway in the UK still? Would love any thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ali, I, many years ago, used to have those thoughts.

until I started searching for answers. If you review the meetings she has with world leaders and do some more research on Queen Elizabeth and the throne, you will find out that the Queen is MUCH more than a powerless figurehead. (You don't pull off a royal wedding like Charle's or Kate's with no clout.) Their aristocracy and power structures are intrinsic and very much entrenched. We, looking from the outside in and with no connections to that entrenched power structure can only guess, superficially, at the power of the throne. My guess is, from years of research, is that the Queen, and her successors, actually hold the most powerful position in the world. I have been researching this for years as a hobby. The data is there for anyone willing to take the time and effort to do the research. That little red case she gets everyday isn't just a casual thing either. Her weekly meetings with the prime minister (with the prime minister's respectful deference to the monarch) are not just for show.
The monarch is not the head of all military branches on a whim or just for show either. Powerful men and women are humble in her presence. There is a reason for that.

I am amazed at how much research goes into this blog. I don't know how you get the information about who designed every item of clothes or jewelry Kate wears. It's a very impressive site. I enjoy coming here to read about Kate without the nasty trolls.

About Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrews daughters, I understand one of them accidentally sliced open some singer's face when pretending to knight him with a real sword. I'm guessing there was a bit of drinking at this party. They should earn their own way in the word. If the queen wants to help them financially with her personal wealth that's her business but they don't quite seem like they would be good representatives of the Queen. Sadly the scandals involving their parents aren't helping them.

Here in America, Beatrice and Eugene hurt their images when they appeared to either be mocking the wedding of William when they turned up looking so tasteless. I'm speaking the one who wore what was dubbed the "Toilet seat hat." Yet again the Yorks seems to just hurt themselves.

Sadly, I can see why Prince Charles wants to sideline the Yorks, if one can believe the stories that he wants to do so.
