A Family-Filled Polo Day Out!

It was a family-filled day out as the Cambridges and Sussexes spent the afternoon at the Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Memorial Polo Trophy at Billingbear Polo Club cheering on William and Harry in the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day.

With George and Charlotte on summer holidays, the family have been spending time at their country home Anmer Hall. Yesterday, the Duchess was spotted with the children at Pensthorpe - a North Norfolk inland haven for nature. The day of outdoors fun coincided with news the Duchess is backing a nature campaign started by children in the UK. In a statement supporting Backyard Nature, Kate wrote: "Spending time in nature can play a pivotal role in helping children grow up to become happy, healthy adults. The great outdoors provides an open playground for children to have fun and learn lifelong skills – from balance and coordination to empathy and creativity – with their friends, their parents, their carers, or their family members. I hope the Backyard Nature campaign inspires children, families and communities to get outside and engage with nature, wherever they live."

Today it was another outdoors packed day for the family. This year, William and Harry have markedly reduced their polo commitments. I recall a Palace aide telling People it was due to "family commitments over the summer", so it was excellent to see the children there.

This little man made his polo debut in style :)

As did his two-month-old cousin Archie.

George checks in on the polo in between activities with Meghan and Archie.

George and Charlotte enjoy a kickabout.

Louis sucking his thumb as Kate holds him.

In a contender for 'moment of the day' Louis decides to (very adorably) try on mum's sunglasses :)

A very sweet wave to Cousin Archie.

Hello! has a brief video from the match.

Today's match raised over £1 million for causes close to the princes' hearts. These organisations include African Parks, the English Schools Swimming Association, Fields in Trust, Henry van Straubenzee Memorial Fund, the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund, the Invictus Games Foundation, Irish Guards Appeal, Map Action, Mountain Rescue England and Wales, the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, Rhino Conservation Botswana, the Royal Marsden, RFU Injured Players Foundation, the Passage and the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust. William's team were victorious in the end.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha was a Thai billionaire businessman and the founder, owner and chairman of King Power Duty Free. He was also the owner of Premier League football club Leicester City from 2010. He was awarded an honorary doctorate as a Doctor of Laws by the University of Leicester in 2016. Throughout his time in Leciester, he was described as a man "whose acts of generosity knew no limits". The Mirror reported: "Supporters were treated to free breakfasts, food, scarves, clappers, flags, free away travel and even free beer. He did anything he could to help enhance their experience. He celebrated his 60th birthday...and marked it by giving away 60 free season tickets to dedicated fans and throwing a party for young hospital patients at Leicester Royal Infirmary, whom he is also believed to have donated £1m to - that on top of another £1m donation to Leicester University’s medical department and a £2m injection towards a new children’s hospital. Srivaddhanaprabha quite simply changed Leicester for the better." Very sadly, he lost his life in a helicopter crash at Leicester City Football Club’s King Power Stadium.

Last November, William and Kate visited Leicester to pay tribute.

The Duchess was stylish in summery pink and her favourite accessories.

Kate wore a past season LK Bennett 'Madison' dress. The floaty and feminine pink silk dress has delicate animal-print tones, and a loose, tiered silhouette. It's been sold out for some time.

The Duchess also owns the piece in purple and orange. She was spotted wearing it in 2016 for a private dinner.

Kate carried the Mulberry Darley bag in ruby red croc. The bag is on sale in several colours on Mulberry's website.

Kate completed the look with her current summer 'go-to' accessories, including her Catherine Zoraida Fern Hoop earrings.

And Castaner Carina wedges.

It looked like a lovely family day out. I expect we'll see Kate over the weekend for the Wimbledon finals.

I was thinking both Kate and Meghan would be there today since it was announced the brothers would be playing. Love the dress, even from this limited view of it (only one photo posted so far). Kate's hair looks great too!

  7. Great family event and I like that the children are dressed down like normal kids. No knee-length breech socks. Kate's dress looks very pretty as does her hair. Hopefully the family together will abate some of the nonstop negative press about supposed "tensions."

OTOH ... I have a feeling royal writers are going to have their hands full very soon with the Prince Andrew/Jeffrey Epstein situation. Oy.

    1. I think this is how the kids dress when not at the official pictures/events they do a minimal amount per year or in their school uniforms.
I think Kate keeps them looking like average kids in comfortable clothes.

  12. Agree, Ivy. All of it.
    What's not to like? Nevermind.
Am I imagining that the royal s have been pushing the PR more than usual recently, from the Queen on down? I thought it had to do with the upcoming change in government-making sure royal- friendly choices are made.
Then I read Ivy's comment. "Oy" indeed. ;) Maybe a wedding would help? Andrew and Sarah.
Still, PR heaven and a treat for the fans.

Oh I would love it if Andrew and sarah officially became a couple again, let alone got married! I feel like they are "together"

    2. Oh my. I don’t think a re-marriage for Andrew and Sarah would be a PR slam-dunk for the royal family. I think public reaction would be, at best, mixed. Of course I hope they are happy.

    3. It wouldn't really be good PR. Sarah still has a bad reputation and Andrew is not liked.

I was referring to Diana's boys with their families as PR heaven, of course. I thought a timely Andrew-\Sarah re-marriage might distract from a new Andrew scandal. Distractions, smoke, and mirrors are not unheard of in the world of PR.
If Sarah still has a bad reputation it is likely residual from the nineties. Sometimes an image gets burned into the public's mind, rightly or wrongly, and it takes almost a miracle to alter it when circumstances change. In fact, a massive effort has been under way to repair the image of another royal spouse whose choices were at least as questionable as Sarah's. I don't think many of the BRF emerged from that era smelling like a rose. Sarah is not exactly Miss Pris but she.has a kind heart, loves her family, and works hard for her charities. She is who she is. I think that Andrew would be marrying up.

  16. I knew as soon as I saw this beautiful Rose/Pink color dress it was a L.K. Bennett and you see that Kate is wearing a red should bag, because the dress has a rose color in the patten. I think the dress is light airy, fun and perfect for this event while dressing appropriate, love it ❤️

  17. She looks stunning and they all appear to be having an absolutely wonderful time -which is great to see. I have to add, however, that I own this dress, (in that color - looks better on her than me!), and it is the finest thinest silk, - sometimes I just like to look at it is so pretty. But the idea of sitting on the grass, eating it with my kids who are still at sippy cup stage, gives me the horrors! It is not a fabric that can take a beating! So, yes she is casual and down to earth, but that dress for me is for special occasions ONLY!!! Seeing this I want to run over and make sure there is a very nice blanket on the ground, and no one gets near it with grape juice!!

Aria, I agree with you- it's a very fragile fabric. I've owned this dress for so long, however, that at this point there are tiny runs here and there, and I will wear it more casually. It is *strictly* dry clean only, as it is viscose, so that would be my hesitation wearing it in the grass, and I do try to get a couple wears out of it between the cleaners. It doesn't wrinkle too badly, in my experience. I'm guessing Kate has had hers for a while, too, and perhaps is less fussy with it. I really hope she'll wear it again in the purple! But I think now it's fairly unlikely.

      Delete
    2. I wondered about the silk. Maybe she has worn it enough times that it was starting to show some wear so she decided to start using it for casual outings because she loves it and was not ready to part with it:).

      Delete
    3. I realize Kate's clothing and accessories get good care from expert cleaners and shoe repair, but sometimes I wonder if Kate makes a double purchase of an item she really likes.

While we cannot see the details, some of her clothing and shoes seem to get several outings and still look brand new.

  23. Kate looked great for the day. Very pretty dress and her hair was lovely. The kids looked like they were having a good time. It is busy keeping track of three kids 5 and under at an event like this. I did not spot any help but maybe a friend or Nanny was on hand also. Louis is at the stage were he takes constant watching.

I own this dress in the purple and debated purchasing it in pink back in the day. I must say, it is one of my favorite summer dresses. So light and flowy, great for hot weather and extremely comfortable and flattering. Tickled to see her wear this and kicking myself for not purchasing in pink, too. I usually wear it with my KiKi pearl drops and a necklace similar to her Mapin & Web Empress pendant. I do not love the wedges she chose- I think they're a little too casual with this dress- a gold tone would have looked nicer, IMO. But her hair looked divine and it appears to have been a fun day for all!

  27. Kate looks gorgeous and the children are beyond cute.
I must say the venue is not as child friendly as that of last year, no rolling hills, cars... Louis required constant vigilance in those surroundings. Kate was wise to bring the ball. How long is a polo match?

    ReplyDelete
  28. When I heard both brothers were I playing polo my first thought was that it is a pity Archie is still too young because both duchesses attending with their kids would go a long way with dispelling feud rumours. Well I am happy to be proved wrong.

It is always fun to see the kids playing around, but am I the only one who find polo a weird sport? The spectators always seems to hang around in the parking area.

  29. LOVE Kate's hair like this! She's sometimes in danger, in my opinion, of letting her hair look *too* done, if you know what I mean. These big waves/curls suit her bone structure so much better than the straighter styles she sometimes sports. I've always felt that sticking to a natural or a styled version of your hair's natural curve will suit your head and face the best. Keeps it from looking like a helmet that's just been placed on your head that didn't grow there :P

    1. I don't know how she runs after her children in those shoes either. I would be in comfortable flats or tennis shoes. To be honest, I actually wish Kate would wear flats more often. I know she loves heels and they are fine for many of her engagements. But, sometimes she seems to tower over people when she's wearing them (especially since she's already a tall person to begin with). This is noticeably true when she's going to engagements with children, in heels that add several more inches to her height. While she makes every effort to lean down when talking to them one on one, she does tower over them when naturally standing.

    2. Kate loves heels, pure and simple. One person's heels is another person flats.

  35. Hello Charlotte, what a fun day out for this lovely family! Tank you for posting these adorable pictures.
I have a question: wasn't it in August 2015 when Kate wore the other version of her dress? I thought it was in the sumner after Charlotte's birth for a private Family dinner.
    Have a wonderful evening everybody!

  37. Delightful pictures! Very nice to see the two families at an outing together. Little Louis certainly gave Kate a run for her money! He's at the age when toddlers are like greased lighening-they can get away from you in a flash! Kate looked charming in the pink dress, which is very much in her wheelhouse, as we have come to understand. If I had been wearing that delicate silk dress, and tearing after Louis, it would probably have umpteen tears at the end of the day!

I think she needs to be hands free when she is chasing after the kids. I would twist my ankle if I was running around in her shoes. They are growing on me as the summer progresses. 43. Looks like pink and red might be Kate's new go-to. I think it so funny how she gets obsessed with something for sometime. Be it wearing the same shoes all the time, or using the same accessories, buying the exactly same clothes in different colours or her various coats that can only be distinguished when exactly next to each other. That is no criticism by the way. I get it. And I love the pink-red mix and I loved her nude heels back in the day. I just feel like Kate does it more extrem than most or maybe it gets noticed more.
The children are absolutely adorable and seem to be very easy going.
Kate's support of projects aroung bringing people/children outside is fantastic.
