The Duchess in Boden for Conversation with "Inspirational" Jasmine Harrison

To mark International Women's Day, Kensington Palace shared a video of a virtual conversation the Duchess of Cambridge had with Jasmine Harrison, the youngest woman to solo row the Atlantic. The conversation took place last week with the Duchess zooming in from Norfolk. The Cambridges have since returned to London with Thomas's Battersea reopening and George, Charlotte and fellow pupils attending school again.

Kate, describing Jasmine as "an inspiration" to other women, heard about the 21-year-old's path to her outstanding achievement. "So many opportunities are closed off or just not out there for women to see, that we don't know that's something you can do." Jasmine said she was in "the right place at the right time", which led her to ask, "What else is there?" Kate replied, "That's why I wanted to talk to you. Unless these things get spoken about and get showcased, you never get to realize the opportunities that are around the corner."

Hello! reports:

'In the chat, Jasmine revealed that although she has been sporty, it wasn't until January of last year that she began training for the race in the gym, to build up her strength. She finally got in the water in July 2020 due to delays related to COVID-19. She was originally expected to get training in the water in March and April. Jasmine was required to complete 120 hours in the water before she would even be allowed to race.

During the call, Kate asked Jasmine about any inspiring women she met along the way and Jasmine discussed meeting a female American rower who broke the record 10 years ago. She supported Jasmine and told her, "If someone is ever going to break my record, you've got to do it right, and this girl is doing for these charities, she's doing it for the right reasons."

They both completed the race in 70 days! Jasmine finished the 3,000-mile (4,828 kilometre) race in Antigua after 70 days, three hours and 48 minutes in February 2021.'

Jasmine completed the 3,000 mile row in February after seventy days. Through the endeavour, she raised funds for the Blue Marine Foundation, a charity dedicated to restoring the ocean to health by tackling overfishing and other environmental challenges; and Shelter Box, an emergency disaster-relief charity.

Kate was interested to hear how Jasmine stayed so "calm and relaxed", asking if it was "stressful" at times.  The Duchess also wondered what she would say to young women who want to follow in her footsteps, to which Jasmine replied, "You can do it if you set your mind to it. Don't listen to other people. You're your own person." The Palace said, "This International Women's Day we celebrate her remarkable achievement and the power it has to motivate & inspire women around the world."

Kate's pink tie-neck blouse is the Boden 'Dora' style (with thanks to Natasha).

The lightweight blouse is semi-fitted with sleeves nipped in at the wrist with a keyhole opening and fabric covered buttons. It has a tie-neck detail which can be styled for a classic pussy-bow effect.

The blouse is available in multi-print at John Lewis for £80.

The Duchess accessorised with her Missoma rhodochrosite gold mini pyramid charm hoops.

Kate wore her hair in a demi-chignon.

    1. I was thinking the same thing! Love the color and the print but not a huge fan of the pussy-bow. I had one once and it always felt like the bow was in the way, lol.

  3. Such a pretty Spring like color! These small prints are so on trend now. I adore these earrings.
Such an interesting conversation, you can tell Catherine is really as impressed by this young woman as the rest of us, as she herself loves sports! I can't imagine 70 days on the water, either, my goodness.

    1. The duchess is pretty, her jewellery is lovely.
What a sport! Does this imply that the Boden Dora style got out of stock?

  4. I don't like pussy bow blouses but that's okay because I can focus on the event instead - I would never have known about Jasmine if Kate hadn't spoken to her but I found it really interesting and Jasmine very inspiring! She had amazing courage to do something so scary.

  6. Such a wonderful role model. Hard working, uncomplaining, a great mother, well behaved children, loyal and supportive to her husband, always supporting important causes, compassionate, kind and helping others.A great future queen. Britain is fortunate to have her.

  7. Definitely, one of her better pussy-bow blouses choices. I think after her inital all-in busines trend wardrobe overhaul, she has now found a way to make the pieces work. I am extremly grateful the little-prairie duft ruffle maxi dresss seem to have gone, same for the extremly buttoned up tops. Thank God. The modern/classic business will match great if she decides to bring out her wonderful coats, coat dresses and day dresses again (which I am very much rooting for to come back- even the nude plateau pumps.

  8. Why can’t I comment. Duchess looks pretty and happy. I would look so silly in that top but as usual Catherine looks great. I love interviews about women doing tough challenges like this one. It shows our girls they can aim high and teaches our boys not to stereotype girls.

WOW - Jasmine Harrison is a powerhouse! I too would not have heard of her if it werent for this blog, how inspirational. Cant believe shes only 21! i hope everyone around the world is seeing you can truly accomplish most anything when you put your mind to it. and love the charity part!

I really like the blouse, the color is great and i like the print. im not a huge pussy bow fan but this works on her and ive grown used to them. I also like the other print shown, hope she bought that one too! Always liked those earings. Her hair is getting so long. kinda miss her curls and cut just below the shoulders but im sure this is a lot less maintenance.
hope the kids are adjusting to being back at school, would be such an odd time to be a kid, would feel like starting all over again after so long out of regular school. Thanks Charlotte.

    1. I'm happy to hear that, Charlotte. I love your coverage of both Meghan and Kate and would miss it. In these strange and delicate times for the RF, a grounded and level-headed cover of the Cambridges is important, I think.

  16. Yes! Charlotte you do an incredible job of researching and writing about both women and their projects. I appreciate it! I’m sure it’s been an eye-opening journey for you, as it is for us. Both women have many good qualities, and it’s been difficult to watch them pitted against each other by the media and fans. Thank you for all you do.
