Duchess Kate Gets First Covid-19 Jab

Following the Cambridges' return from Scotland, the Duchess of Cambridge revealed she had her first Covid-19 jab. Kate shared: "Yesterday I received my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at London’s Science Museum. I’m hugely grateful to everyone who is playing a part in the rollout - thank you for everything you are doing."

It follows a similar post from William who shared he was vaccinated on 20 May. On social media, he wrote: "To all those working on the vaccine rollout - thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do."

'It came after numerous reports stated that William had tested positive for COVID in April 2020 – around the same time as his father, Prince Charles.

Kensington Palace chose not to comment – but it's thought that William wanted to keep his diagnosis private to avoid causing alarm. He was said to have been treated by palace doctors and followed government guidelines by isolating at the Cambridge family home in Norfolk, Amner Hall.

Prince Charles, meanwhile, self-isolated for seven days at his Birkhall home on the royal Balmoral estate after displaying mild symptoms. At the time, his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, tested negative for the virus.'

The Duchess was stylish in an off-duty look with a fitted top and jeans. Kate wore her H&M off-the-shoulder top. It comes in rib-knit fabric with short sleeves.

Kate debuted the piece during an Isles of Scilly visit in 2016.

It is quite difficult to ID jeans, so I was extremely impressed when Christine from Kate's Royal Closet identified the £65 Favourite Cut Jeans from & Other Stories. The light blue pair are created from organic cotton and feature comfort stretch, a high waist and slim leg. They are available in limited sizes here.

Finally, the Duke and Duchess had a special message for those they met in Scotland. "To the people, communities and organisations we visited and heard from; and those who stopped to wave and make our return to Scotland so special - thank you!"

The beautiful sketch on the front was drawn by Kate when she was a student at St Andrews nineteen years ago.

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

  1. Hi Charlotte

I’m finishing up getting a pedicure (I’m vaxxed so it’s a nice return to normalcy), reading your post.

I decided to get a bubblegum pink nail polish (varnish) because it reminds me of that cute Mila and her smile. As a cancer survivor myself, it’s so special for me to see that little girl getting her wish to meet her beautiful princess in person. Hopefully, Kate is aware of the magic she brought to Mila and her family, and to those who were touched by the sweet photos.

When I shared the photos (via text) with a friend (who’s not a Kate watcher) and told her about my Mila pink toes, we decided it would be great if a nail polish company would produce a “Mila Pink” color and set aside proceeds to fighting children’s cancer.

  3. What a beautiful sketch and a lovely idea for a postcard. There is so much depth more to Kate than meets the eye, and it's the subtleness in her demeanor and her actions that sets her apart. This is a very nice gesture and apparently this visit to Scotland, aside from being a 'working tour' seems to have been very personal to William and Kate.

    2. They’ve made frequent appearances throughout this pandemic with questionable safety if you ask me. But I usually get shouted down when I point that out as not understanding the specific UK rules. An unmasked train tour right as the winter wave was peaking, various unmasked personal outings in crowds, bringing their children to a red carpet event. All egregious missteps for symbolic leaders. They should have been masked until vaccinated. End of story.

    3. She looks great & I am happy that she got the vaccine, but I am also wondering why not get it before heading to Scotland like William? Either that or just not publicize that you did it right after? I’m also not in U.K., but her age group is the same as William so she could have gotten it then? Right now their PR needs to be top notch.

Love the thank you card. Thoughtful touch and lovely drawing. So meaningful.

    4. Anon 22:11 I think we have to understand the different rulings in different countries re COVID protocols and as long as they are doing as per current protocols in the UK that’s where we can expect the example to be set. I believe the Royal Family would have been very mindful to set the right example on all occasions they have been seen throughout the pandemic.

    1. No it’s not just you. They’ve made such inexplicable choices for the entirety of Covid. As a healthcare worker I really struggled with them s oing a train tour involving crowds of people coming to see them right as the worst of the waves to hit Britain was gaining speed. And somehow seem to escape scrutiny or criticism. Kate also attended a public crowded vigil mask free, and unvaccinated as we now know, and was strangely lauded for it, but later the same day at the same event were arrested for violating Covid rules? I’m really struggling with the Royal family’s appalling pr/symbolic missteps, their actual missteps (Andrew etc...) and the fact that their never seems to be a question or consequence ever.

      Delete
    2. A few things. They both may have had Covid, and they may not have wanted to look like they were jumping any lines due to their status.

    4. Anonymous, I think they are following exactly what rules the government is imposing. Thus the inconsistency, as it seems the UK like many other countries had to change policies over time. Rules on masks distance exterior interior have kept changing and I for one don't know anymore what is allowed or not!
Depend upon it, the RF is not making decisions on this, and does as it is told. Go to a theatre to boost the entrainment industry in December, then go into lockdown again, wear a mask inside, not outside, go to a pub to support pubs, have a 30 persons funeral in a huge church, go on tour, do zoom, get vaccinated... They are doing their jobs as figureheads but they don't get a personal choice. And what's more, they do have to answer for what they do, and do not escape criticism at all. I do not think it is fair to put the blame on them.

      Delete
    5. Anonymous, people were arrested at the event because the gathering of people had been forbidden. Kate attendees the vigil, which was allowed by the authorities. You may agree or disagree with UK guidelines but they’ve always followed them.

The Andrew topic is becoming tiresome. Most people everywhere agree that he’s a disgrace. He’s retired from public life. What else do you want?

      Delete
    6. Every country and in some cases part of the country has its own rules. One needs to be cognisant of the rules pertaining to time and place before commenting. Where I live no mask, social distancing and qr code required on entry. In some places temperature required but it could change in a blink of an eye. It is a viscious unpredictable virus.

      Delete
    7. Well said Natacha!

      Delete
    8. I want Andrew to be made available for questioning by the law enforcement authorities that have repeatedly asked. Protecting him is an insult to the people he hurt or was complicit to their harm. And you’re going to have to explain to me the difference between a “vigil” and a “gathering of people.” No one is arrested until the Duchess makes her PR appearance and then leaves? Please. It’s an appalling lack of consistency in who is subject to what rules.

      Delete
    9. Anonymous 3:14 Easy to explain. When the number of people gatered got out of hand, police interfered. Kate was there earlier in the day, when the situation was under control. Nobody was arrested when she was there, so not inconsistent. I don't think the police failed to act because she was there, are you implying that?
I don't understand what Andrew has to do with it. If you are suggesting that because he is a member of the RF he is being treated differently, actually, he has the same protection as any UK citizen. He is not being charged of anything.
Compare that to the US diplomat's wife that killed a child by reckless driving, fled to the US and never answered for her actions in the UK. I don't think a member of the RF could go away with that.
Andrew has lost all his patronages, his job, he wasn't pictured at his daughter wedding. As Anonymous said, everyone agrees he is a disgrace. By all accounts, Epstein had a lot of VIP friends, he was very good at manipulation and had the money. Have they all faced the same consequences? I am not defending Andrew ( I also think he is a disgrace) but if you are looking for inconsistencies, there you have.
In short I am convinced that the RF is submitted to greater scrutiny than the average citizen and that they cannot afford not to follow the rules. More than that, their behavior has to be perfect. When it isn't the consequences are huge.
They even have to follow exactly contradictory Covid rules, which must be exhausting...

      Delete
    10. So what you’re saying is that Andrew has been formally asked to be questioned and the RF is not making him available? You’re saying that the US authorities want to question him but the UK and the RF together are hiding a man?

About Kate, you may want to check what happened that day. There was a planned memorial for the evening that authorities prohibited to prevent masses of people. Kate did not attend it. Women who were arrested did. We can discuss if we agree with what happened with the police and those women, but that happened hours later Kate and other hundreds of people had visited the memorial and left their flowers, candles and prayers.

      Delete
    11. Yes that's what I'm saying. It has been widely reported in reputable US papers including the New York Times and the Washington Post that Prince Andrew is sought for questioning by the FBI and Interpol and the RF is not making him available. That is EXACTLY what I'm saying. It's a fact. And it's disgusting. So correct the UK and the RF are hiding and protecting a man. But because he "retired from royal duties" it's ok and punishment enough? They are not above international law. Is this news to you? Perhaps you should read some not UK flattering coverage of the royal family.

I am well aware of what happened the day of the memorial. You can split hairs all you want, but the police don't show up until a high profile figure leaves? And when they do show up it's under the guise of violating covid protocols? When the same number of people were there during the day time hours? Do you really not see how hypocritical and inconsistent this was? I just don't know if it's worth continuing this conversation if you don't see that.

      Delete
    12. International law? Under international law, the UK is a sovereign state whose prerogative and duty it is to protect its citizens.
The FBI is an US service, competent in the US. Interpol is a multilateral organization for police cooperation and the UK is part of it. So are the US. Interpol itself doesn't "seek people for questioning". There are mechanisms and agreements under which the US and the UK police forces can collaborate. The British police would be competent for questioning Andrew. The US aren't above international law.

On the other subject, I don't know what you want to prove? That the police shouldn't have shown up at all at the memorial? Many people agree about that but it has nothing to do with Kate.

I agree it is not worth continuing this conversation.

      Delete
    13. Just goes to show you that we can all watch the same news and walk away with different perspectives. On the day of the memorial, the high profile figure didn't even announce her presence and it was only through other sources that it was revealed, AFTER the fact. The police were not there waiting for Kate to leave, they weren't there because the 'vigil' was held hours later and after many others had gathered to visit the memorial during the day to pay their respects, that means that somebody at the vigil, where there were many more people, complained to the police about Covid violations. Not seeing where this is a 'guise'??? It's unfortunate that a small few taint an otherwise meaningful memorial and the perspective gets skewed so that the entire memorial is judged on a minimized time frame and a specific unfortunate occurrence. But then that's the problem with those people who focus on the snippet of the news that plays up the negative and discounts the rest of the story. So for what it's worth, no it isn't worth continuing the conversation if you don't see that, but fortunately there are many who can see the forest for the trees.

As to Andrew, there is a big difference in 'sought' which is a voluntary action, and a formal request which is a formal action. Nobody is hiding him, his whereabouts are known, and while I think he is a disgrace and should voluntarily help, the RF has pulled him from all responsibilities and he is no longer representing either the UK or the RF, which was the right thing to do. And I would agree with Natacha that there are many high profile individuals in the US who are not being held to account either voluntarily or involuntarily in this whole sordid Epstein affair, and if all are to be admonished and held accountable, regardless of wealth and status, then they should be included as well, and then we will see what and who the New York Times and Washington Post call out, that's the hypocrisy.

      Delete
    14. The New York TImes and the WaPo HAVE called out everyone involved who has evaded responsibility. Andrew is on a list, they aren’t articles about him only. The reporting on this has been quite detailed. You should read it. But the reporting HAS ALSO pointed out Andrew has declined repeatedly to make himself available to law enforcement seeking him. Despite saying in his disaster of an interview that he would. And reporting has repeatedly pointed out his role in an prominent royal family with a diplomatic role. I mean I can lead you to water but at some point you have to drink. The splitting of hairs here is so disappointing. People were hurt and not enough people have taken responsibility. Andrew is one of them and the dots are easy to connect. And yes I do think there are some issues with the perception of, rightly or wrongly, a different set of rules for the royal family. Whether it be Covid protocols, spontaneous public appearances (you have a more generous view of Kates presence at the vigil if you genuinely think that wasn’t strategic PR), heck even their own HIRING has just this week been proven to be exempt from anti discrimination laws. That’s what I’m saying.

      Delete
    15. Anonymous 22:59, exactly!

      Delete
    16. Last comment, the New York Times and Washington Post HAVE NOT CALLED OUT EVERYONE INVOLVED. They are cherry picking who they choose to go after in print. Without naming other names, I will concede that there are issues with rightly or wrongly, a different set of rules for the wealthy, and that includes all wealthy, I just think we disagree on WHO those people may be and WHY some are left alone. I too am tired of the Andrew argument, he is a disgrace and his name is forever tainted, his role in all of it is not for me to judge and someday there may be an accounting, but I don't think the public will be happy unless its a blood bath. However, I will not concede, under any circumstance, that Kate is pulling 'strategic PR' stunts. She was there quietly, without announcement, to pay her respects. Again, a memorial meant to take a moment to acknowledge a beautiful life unnecessarily lost is what we should be be talking about, myself included. Anon 22:59.

    1. Many, but not all USA Granny. In our state, the wearing of masks is not required if you have been vaccinated and each city, business, are free to make their own protocols. It is somewhat of an honor system, that you can go without wearing a mask if you have completed the process. Social distancing is still being observed even in those instances, and it looked like throughout the tour W&K pretty much kept their distance and wore their masks when the situation warranted, i.e. Kate wore her mask when she saw Mila and kept her distance from her, including at the final ceremony when they were seated well apart.

  23. I don't think it is strange that both got their vaccines on different days IF they both were treated like everyone else. You don't get to choose your initial date (you can reschedule though). I think the BRF wanted to make a point in very publicly not skipping the line and therefore had to deal with different appointment for people in the same household like everyone else.

    1. I agree Anon, I think sometimes we miss the message and shoot the messenger. I think its exactly that they want to show that they are taking their turns just like everybody else. As to the tour, I also believe that they are careful to observe necessary protocols, many of the people on the tour were without masks, so since not sure of the practices in place, going to trust that it was all done accordingly.

      Delete
    2. If you look carefully at photographs you will see them wearing masks inside and sometimes outside, but mostly using distancing outside. Not all countries have the same rules and in UK as elsewhere the rules change from time to time. In New Zealand we wear masks only on public transport, but don't need to do that elsewhere as the rules were relaxed once community transmission ceased. As we don't have an international airport in Wellington there were no deaths in our region of the country and only 26 altogether in the rest of New Zealand. However that doesn't mean we are not still at risk and we are still restricting entry through our airports and isolating visitors with symptoms. Otherwise everything is relatively normal, although we are still washing hands and signing in when visiting shops and public places. Testing is still taking place and the PM has said that it is important for the majority of our population to get vaccinated so we can open up our borders again. Our Health Ministry has announced everyone over 16 can get the pfizer vaccine free and New Zealand has ordered enough vaccines to be able to offer free vaccination to some of our Polynesian neighbours as well as contributing to Covax which is helping other developing countries. No country will be really safe while covid19 is still rife somewhere in the world so hoarding vaccines is against everyone's interests.

Great news today, Lili Diana. Beautiful name. Please God she will bring healing to her family. S.

  29. To the comments about Andrew, it’s best for royal supporters to drop Andrew. Andrew has continually shown bad judgement, not just in his friendship with Epstein, but in his business dealings and charities. His record as trade rep was one headache after another for the Home Office. Now the lack of cooperation accusation by the US DOJ. Does the Home Office really wants to get into a war of words with the US DOJ? Over Epstein and Andrew ? Trying to link this fiasco to the Sacoolas extradition as if it’s a tit for tat is foolish and the last thing the Home Office wants and what Buckingham Palace wants.

While many of us who are royal fans may regard British princes and princesses a bit more sacrosanct than the general public, in real life, nations prioritize trade, treaties and security far more. Andrew will never be able to walk away from Epstein anymore than Leon Black, Les Wexner, Bill Clinton, and others. This will hang over his head. It’ll be Andrew’s big asterisk on his Wikipedia page. Sex trafficking is bad. Old, rich and powerful men having sex with poor teenagers, even if the teens were legal, is bad. That’s it. Andrew is very lucky he’s a prince. We who love the royals should be thankful there’s a wonderful PR machine and a cadre of British civil servants who will do their best to safeguard the reputation of the royal family.

Now please let’s get back to our gorgeous Kate and her many talents.

You can’t champion mental health and ending:exploitation of people without addressing the trauma of those who were abused, ignored or exploited. Getting access and treatment to prompt mental healthcare mattes as much as access to good maternal health.

It can’t be all happy talk and meet and greet and award ceremonies with pretty dresses and accessories. That would makes Kate a cloth hanger and an accessory. Kate is more than that. This woman has style AND substance. You can’t hide the bad and awkward stuff by pretending them all away.

The family consists of real people and they all have good points and bad points. That includes the Queen. I love the royal family with all their imperfections. I think that’s ok and make them more relatable. Personally I fault the ineptitude and bad advice and actions of the Palace minders. They have made a mess of things and have regressed the family back a century or two.

Just call me: a happy blog reader :)
