Choose Your Dream Tour Looks for Kate, Kate Sends Message of Support to AFC & A Family Affair in Canada!

We're back with a fun activity and a look at latest news updates.

Last August, our always insightful commenter Julia suggested readers submit their dream looks for the Duchess, and it turned out to be a wonderful idea. As we all enjoyed it so much, let's make it an annual August activity during what is traditionally one of the quietest months on the royal calendar.

With a royal tour of Canada set to commence late next month, it seems a most appropriate time to ask readers to 'Choose Your Dream Looks for Kate in Canada'. Many of you have expressed an interest in choosing both a formal and casual look and that's exactly what we'll do, as whilst I expect there will be at least one formal event on the itinerary, I understand we're going to very much see a family-friendly, outdoorsy trip allowing the Cambridges to explore British Columbia and Yukon.

With all this in mind, we're asking you to select the following TWO looks:

  • LOOK ONE - A look for the Duchess of Cambridge to wear for a black-tie gala dinner. The event will be attended by dignitaries and well-known figures. The Duchess would likely wear a full-length gown for such an occasion. Don't forget to accessorise with a bag, clutch and jewels as you wish. As a portion of the tour will likely focus on the countdown celebtations to Canada's 150th Anniversary of Confederation, the gala would likely be related to this.
  • LOOK TWO - The second look is a dayime look and this one offers far more scope for personal preferences. Hypothetical appearances you could style Kate for include: the Cambridges' arrival in Canada; the Cambridges spend the day with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his family; or perhaps you would be likely to select a look for a day of outdoor pursuits such as hiking.

Additional Information:
  • Leave a comment with your suggestions. Please include links to the designer/retailer in order for me to obtain images and to share your selection.
  • Don't forget to leave a name or a moniker of some sort to ensure I can appropriately credit your look.
  • Please only select one ensemble for each look.
  • Feel free to accessorise with shoes, bags and jewels.
  • You can choose items already in Kate's wardrobe.
  • And most importantly have fun. This is YOUR ideal look for the Duchess; you're the stylist.

To help get you started here are links to a number of Kate's favoured designers and online retailers who stock labels she's fond of:

We do expect Kate to implement a piece or two into her wardrobe from Canadian designers. If you would like to include a piece or a look from a brand with links to Canada (we'll be taking an in-depth look closer to the tour), here are several suggestions beginning with a Kate favourite!

If hoping to include the colours of the Canada flag - something we saw Kate do during the first tour of Canada in 2011 - we may also see the maple leaf incorporated.

A refresher of several of Kate's looks during the Canada tour in 2011.

Here are two sample looks I've chosen:

Evening Look - For the evening look, I had to choose red not only because of its connection to Canada but because it is sublime on the Duchess and really complements her colouring. I chose the Zuhair Murad Embellished Evening Gown and styled it with the Jimmy Choo Milla Clutch, the Dolce & Gabbana Crystal Embellished Satin Sandals, and the Queen's chandelier earrings.

Daytime Look - For the second look, I decided to "style Kate" for an arrival outfit or an official event with the Prime Minister and his wife using a combination of new pieces and items Kate already owns. I was taken by this clean, simple and elegant skirt suit by Canadian designer Jason Wu, who has been championed by Michelle Obama. The embroidered lace and cotton blend jacket and matching lace midi skirt. would look great on HRH. I styled it with the red maple leaf hat Kate wore in 2011, the Queen's Maple Leaf brooch (which was loaned to Kate for the 2011 tour), and her new, gorgeous Gianvito Rossi red pumps.

I will put all your looks together in a bumper post in a few days. I am enormously excited to see your submissions! :)

We also have news updates to share with you. Kensington Palace released a message of support for the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, who today launched a series of expert podcasts to help parents understand and manage child and family mental health problems. The series, Child in Mind, is presented by BBC Radio 4 presenter Claudia Hammond.
Anna Freud Centre

In the message, Kate noted how strongly she and William feel about getting children the support they need: "We wouldn't hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte." Below the full message:

"One in three adults still say they would be embarrassed to seek help for their child's mental health. No parent would fail to call the doctor if their child developed a fever, yet some children are tackling tough times without the support that can help them because the adults in their life are scared to ask.  It doesn’t need to be like this.
Throughout my work with family and child support organisations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow up. Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it.
I hope that this excellent series of podcasts by the Anna Freud Centre will go some way to help families overcome that fear of what happens next if they look for professional support.  They illustrate that many of the therapies are actually very simple and practical steps that include the whole family to help children make sense of the world around them. They show how with the right help, children have a good chance of overcoming their issues while they are still young, and can have the bright future they deserve.
Please do listen, and share them with your friends and family and let's change the way we all talk to each other about our mental health."

Finally, as we're chatting about the royal tour, who is hoping to see George and Charlotte join their parents? Although no official confirmation has been given, The Sunday Times (a very reliable source) reports the children will accompany their parents "on some engagements" during the "eight-day tour". Meanwhile The Mail on Sunday reports the itinerary will include a private day and notes William hopes to take George fishing.

We're beginning to see details coming through and will likely hear more in the coming weeks. The 2011 Canada tour remains a favourite for many, this one looks to be even more enjoyable with George and Charlotte! :)

Since I think the idea was originally mine, I may submit a second post as I organise my links but here is my first one for a formal dinner in Vancouver or Victoria. Instead of red, I've chosen to honour Canada by using their designers combined with some special Canadian jewellery buried in the queen's vault for too long.

For the gown, I've chosen a look by Canadian designer Mikael D. From Spring 2014. The slit is a bit high but this is always adjusted off the catwalk. It would be perfect for Kate's green eyes. I've tested the link but it takes a second for the look to come up. It is 9 of 31.

    http://www.fashionmagazine.com/fashion/at-the-shows/2013/10/28/mikael-d-spring-2014/slide/mikael-d-spring-2014-09/

For the shoes - the following - the green ones of course. Again it takes a second to come up.

Finally the very special jewellery - the queen's jade dogwood set given to her in British Columbia. The link shows the only photos of the queen wearing this set.

    1. Julie, how fascinating to read about the dogwood jade and gold jewelry, and the confusion with the possible emerald and diamond dogwood jewelry. I hope Kate sees this contest and that your choice jumps out at her so that perhaps some of the confusion can be cleared up and we can see the pieces on her. They would be perfectly apt. what a beautiful tribute that would be if she did wear that Jewelry. Knowing how Kate loves to pull things out of the family albums and make former things applicable to today, I wouldn't be surprised if she got that historical connection and honors British Columbia in that way. Hopefully. :)

I've seen talk about that jewelry for this tour :) But I read somewhere that it also has whale ivory details on it (don't quote me on that) so that would probably rule it out rather quickly!

      Delete
    7. Julia from Leominster17 August 2016 at 03:24

That would be a shame if there proved to be ivory for it would certainly preclude Kate wearing it. Do you recall what your source was on that?

I took it to be all jade since the most official reference on the archive photo spoke of jade and gemstones and nephrite jade is a particular product in British Columbia. But there is obviously gold as well - Mr Leo thinks there are nuggets on the necklace which would be striking, if so, and that isn't mentioned in the description. White nephrite is found in B.C. - I believe it is called Mutton Fat - a most unattractive name, although one that should please the Prince of Wales, as he is keen for us all to eat mutton to help the wool producers. That's what I assumed the white flowers were on the bracelet - Mr Leo thought they might be gold though - it is such a poor photo. They could be ivory. It's so hard to tell.
I assume ivory may be an indigenous product in British Columbia (there is an Ivory Island) although I associate it more with the Inuits and the Arctic - who are allowed to hunt narwhal and walrus - for meat but also for ivory. But I don't know much about it (like I thought Sebago shoes came from Maine) Native-used Ivory is much more tightly controlled than elephant ivory but I still can't think William would like it.

I adored the white dogwood on the Pacific Coast - I saw it in Yosemite - and it is a Christian symbol as well as the symbol of Victoria, that I can only hope those flowers are nephrite jade or gold - and the set is something Kate could wear.

Unfortunately, I could find no photo of the back of that dress - I was in a terrible hurry when I looked for links for my ideas - as can be told from all my mistakes - but I did think that dress looked like Kate - a little sexy, yet easy to wear - and lace which she loves so much. (I would love to see Charlotte's red gown too - stunning!)

THat is the thing.. I really can't remember where I read it. I thought it was on the ROyal jewels of the world forum but I can't find it there... So that is why my comment should be taken very lightly since I have no source of it :P

This is probably the first time in reading all your comments, Rebecca that I hope you are wrong about something. Because I would love for that set to come out and put in an appearance in B.C. I was skimming through the Royal Jewels of the World Forum too - tonnes of interesting information there - but didn't find any more information on the jade. Suspect you did see it someplace though and we're just missing it.

Agree with Bluhare that it is brilliant that you have commented on everyone's choices -- there are so many amazingly beautiful selections - yours included. I wish Kate could wear every one of them.

Here's another of my looks for Kate by a Canadian designer - a cocktail dress this time. The look would be either the seventh or the eighth scrolling to the right - the green cocktail dresses with white flowers. (Although the long gowns would do too.) It would be perfect for a formal event at Butchart Gardens. (What a dream!)

Another rare and mysterious Canadian necklace here - either a wedding gift from British Columbia to the queen or possibly from a 1952 visit. It wasn't really the queen's look but would be perfect for Kate. This is the only photo I can find.

    2. Julia from Leominster17 August 2016 at 03:44

I've actually been able to find a couple of old references to this necklace - which looks much more like something that would suit Kate than the queen. Both are old news clippings:
One reads: "Latest unique offering was made in Vancouver. The queen was given dogwood, flower of British Columbia in the form of a handsome necklace and ear clips. A single large dogwood blossom modeled in platinum is attached to a gold necklet with garlands of small diamonds and leaves of emeralds. The earrings are smaller blossoms in platinum and diamonds." I'm not sure what paper this is from.

The second is an old article about the queen loving pearls. It reads:

Elizabeth occasionally wore a new dogwood necklace and earrings given her in Vancouver on her first North American trip. Single Large dogwood blossoms (sic) were modeled in platinum with garlands of diamond and emerald leaves to complete the necklace. Matching earrings were worn with it."
This description is clearly based on the one in the first article. Despite the reference to the queen wearing it - no one has ever produced any evidence that she has - but it does seem to be a gift from the 1951 visit to British Columbia, not a wedding gift as Leslie Field suggests.

It always seems sad to me that some of these splendid gifts go unworn - left in the vaults somewhere - assuming they haven't been "disposed of" like the unfortunate Alexandra tiara. I thought it would look wonderful with that green cocktail dress with white blooms (although not dogwood - a custom design with dogwood would be lovely too.) But it would be nice to see this necklace emerge - no matter what it is worn with - and no risk of ivory here. It definitely seems a different necklace from the jade. I can't give a lot of credence to that second article but the first does seem to give some authority for its existence beyond that bad photo.

My final formal look (in violation of your rules but there are so many interesting jewellery ideas out there - hope these posts all show up. This time I've picked a gown by a British Colombian designer. It's a bit mum of the bride but it demands a grand necklace and I have two possibilities. First the gown:

    http://www.marissacollections.com/shop/off-shoulder-gown-with-cllr-rz554-trf-re-272436.html

Then the same shoes the same Ralph and Russo I used in the other posts in a different colour.

    https://rachelrunwayofficial.files.wordpress.com/2015/10/fb_img_1444235734019.jpg

Finally two necklace choices: One of the queen's which she inherited from her mother and has never worn - it was Queen Alexandra's wedding necklace and seems meant for Kate. (The tiara was sadly "disposed of" by Princess Toria - what was everyone thinking! But the earrings would go with the necklace.

    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/05/queen-alexandras-wedding-parure.html

But should William decide to buy Kate a new necklace in honour of their first Canadian visit soon after there marriage - this would be a grand choice.

    http://www.reenaahluwalia.com/canoe-necklace/

Finally, my look for Whitehorse - the blazer and trousers first row - second image or the cape and trousers (very Kate) third row third image - and finally for the evening the tuxedo trouser suit in the bottom row. Again, a Canadian designer.

    http://www.mirabelli.com/fallwinter-2014

To wear with all of these, any of Kate's black courts plus for the tuxedo suit, a certain brooch -

    https://www.google.com/search?q=duchess+of+cambridge+polar+bear+brooch&biw=1252&bih=582&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiCnrDHu8POAhUBdCYKHfKoDZoQ_AUIBigB&dpr=1.09#imgrc=xcScBYPYnT1GJM%3A

Where else but the Yukon (or Yukon) to wear this gift.

  17. Oh Charlotte - you so nailed it! Can only imagine Kate seeing your evening gown choice and texting it to her stylist "Is it too late to order in time for the tour?"

Spent some time at "From Her Majesty's Vault" and found this brooch. Not quite sure if it's something that Kate could/would wear:

    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-enamel-maple-leaves-brooch.html

Again, congratulations on your choice, it is perfect!

    1. Anon 17:07, I completely agree with you about Charlotte's choices! Spot on and that's definitely a red statement gown if I ever saw one!!

Love the find on the brooch!! How beautiful. While it may look dated as a brooch for the Duchess, I can so see her repurposing it as a hair piece with a lovely formal gown, when a tiara just won't do!!

Wow, wow, wow on all the lovely choices. This is really a great idea...thanks Charlotte! cc

      Delete
    2. cc,

Using that as a hair piece would be so nice if the hairstyle, outfit and brooch all go perfectly together, otherwise it would look quite awkward.
I am not sure her stylist/hairdresser could pull that off. It would be dreamy if they could.

      Delete
    3. Anon 01:46 you are right, it has to be just the right hairstyle and outfit. I envisioned a messy, romantic updo....she certainly has the hair to achieve it, but agree maybe not the right hairdresser. Really do love the brooch and the idea....such a shame that all this lovely jewelry isn't seen/used more. BTW thanks for the link, took a tour of Her Majresty's Vault and was just amazed at the beautiful jewelry. cc

    5. Not to worry, am so glad to see that someone else had the idea too (great minds right). :) Saw your look and it is beautiful! The beauty of this blog and in particular this challenge is that this really gives us glimpses into each other's ideas and we find that while we may be far apart on some, we are pretty close on others. The biggest take away from this is that there are some truly talented and inspiring looks being submitted and the commonality is that everybody wants Kate to look her very best, while still being Kate. If ever anyone had "people" in her corner, it is certainly Kate!! :) I would hope that Kate's Team IS looking at this blog and taking some copious notes!! I am feeling inspired myself and may even venture a look! cc

      Delete
    6. Anon 01:46...I think Rebecca nailed the right hairstyle, outfit and using the brooch as a hairpiece!! Like how she used an existing green gown of Kate's and how the gown picks up on the colors of the brooch. Now if the hairstylist can step up...voila! cc

  18. Firstly, I just wanted to say thank you for this lovely idea. I’ve never participated in one of these before. I have been battling a major depressive episode all year, which is one of the reasons I am so glad that the Duchess is working on mental health. This activity brought me some much needed joy.
My dream evening look: http://fabfourfashion.com/fashion/greta-constantine/ (specifically Nancy’s Look)
This Greta Constantine dress is simple and gorgeous, in the blue that the Duchess likes and seems to make her gleam. The side cowl detail will give the slim Duchess the illusion of curves, and the shoulder overlay is both elegant and modest such as the cold shoulder gown worn to the SportsAid gala. The fabric is a microfiber material usually used for athletic wear which allows it to remain smooth. It is modelled by Nancy of Canada’s Fab Four Fashion who each represent tall, slim, curvy and plus size women on their fashion blog. This dress is worn by Nancy who is just taller than the Duchess at 1,8 m and relishes how, unlike most brands, Greta Constantine provides for her tall frame. Greta Constantine is an excellent choice in terms of sartorial diplomacy – the brand is this year’s winner of the Canadian Fashion Awards Womenswear Designer of the Year and aims to offer clothing “with a modern sensibility for truly effortless dressing.” This is an elite brand worn by international celebrities but it is also funky such that the Duchess will look both sophisticated and fresh.
I would have it be worn with an updo to show off her Robinson Pelham blue topaz chandelier earrings and to highlight the neckline. The Jimmy Choo silver ‘Vamp’ sandals would suit the setting of the earrings and lastly her Jenny Packham silver ‘Casa’ box clutch for matching silver, and some British wear.
    My dream daytime look: http://www.dsquared2.com/us/short-dress_cod34361775wu.html?collection_id=23973
This would be for either their arrival or a formal engagement. It is a Dsquared2 design which is perfect as the brand is run by identical twins Dean and Dan Caten who are Canadians now based in London.
The red is both an omage to Canada, and suits the Duchess’ colouring. The cut is clean and elegant, suiting the Duchess’ frame and taste, with the balance of the high neckline and low back which could be shown off with a half updo such as was worn on her first tour. The image demonstrates how the silver of the Queen's Maple Leaf brooch would pop against the red, matched by her ‘Empress’ Drop earrings, Gianvito Rossi red pumps and the ‘Natasha’custom grey clutch by Emmy London.

Kate could step out of her comfort zone in this sparkling pink one-shoulder gown for an elegant evening. I would keep the accessoires simple and black - a great colour to combine pink with.
Would it be possible to include a close-up of the lace detailing on the dress, Charlotte?

I'd have Kate wear this outfit including the eye-catching statement necklace for a visit to a charity in canada, for example to talk to inner-city people about mental health,... I really jope Kate will wear a black pencil skirt one day!
I've added a coat to the outfit, but Kate should take it off ASAP to show off the gorgeous top (or she could just hand the coat to Rebecca Deacon if it's warm enough)!!

  22. I went right to Erdem to find my looks for Kate. My first look is for evening - the Samira Gown Rose Hip Night dress:
    https://erdem.com/shop/samira-gown-rose-hip-night/

paired with the Jimmy Choo Louise sandal: http://us.jimmychoo.com/en/women/shoes/sandals/louise/ivory-satin-strappy-sandals-LOUISESAT080002.html?cgid=women-shoes-sandals#prefn1=heelHeight&psortd1=1&psortb1=bestMatch&prefv1=Mid+Heel&productsearch=true&start=1

This look would be for a formal evening event, although not a glitzy gala, since the Samira gown is not super glamorous. I am picturing any evening event that the Cambridges attend being on the less fancy side, since the theme of the trip is casual and family friendly. I am not good with accessories, especially jewelry, so to come up with a shoe was enough for me.

For a day look - for example, a lunch meeting with the Prime Minister - I would love to see Kate in the Betty Dress Guardi Blue: https://erdem.com/shop/betty-dress-guardis/

I love this dress and can imagine Kate wearing it with her trusty nude pumps, as a nod to the color of Canada, Jimmy Choo's Margot clutch in red: http://us.jimmychoo.com/en/women/bags/evening-bags-and-clutches/margot/red-patent-and-suede-clutch-bag-MARGOTPAS060016.html?cgid=women-handbags-clutch#prefn1=color&psortd1=1&psortb1=bestMatch&prefv1=Red&productsearch=true&start=1

  28. Speaking of designing (hopefully not off topic by much), Fiona Cairns, the designer of Kate's work of art wedding cake, has tutorials on cake design on You Tube, sponsored by one of Kate's favorites, Waitrose.

Fiona was trained as a graphic designer. Perhaps that is why her Joseph Lambert technique cakes, one of many of her style of cake designs, are more restrained and aesthetically better balanced than many who take that detail to the extreme. There is a reason she has been supplying Harrod's Food court with her beautiful masterpieces for 28 years. She started out at that time working from her kitchen with only one assistant. Sound like anyone else we know of? :)

    1. Can you imagine getting a cake tutorial from an expert like Fiona Cairns? You Tube is amazing.

In an interview with Fiona in the Leiceister paper the journalist mentioned that Fiona had baked some things for the Queen. So perhaps the Queen, if asked, referred Kate to Fiona.

Have any of our readers in Leiceister ever had one of Fiona's cakes, or her cakes from Harrod's? Were they as beautiful and delicious as I imagine they would be?

Someone should purchase that in her size and send it to her just so she doesn't miss out on her perfect dress. Wouldn't that be lovely. :)

  31. For the black tie dinner I think it has to be McQueen. A gorgeous lace dress is perfect for Kate https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/725734 with these knock out Gianvito Rossi brocade sandals https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/710075/gianvito_rossi/brocade-sandals and this unusual Edie Parker solid pearlescent clutch http://edie-parker.com/collections/classics/products/jean-solid-taupe. Kate would wear her hair up as she did with the Packham gown in New York and would limit her jewellery to a pair of earrings - a dramatic drop pair from Kiki McDonough http://kiki.co.uk/index.php/jewellery/earrings/extremely-beautiful-colour-combination-of-lemon-quartz-and-smoky-quartz-set-with-diamonds-in-a-cushion-drop-earring.html.

For day wear, I'd like to see Kate in a relaxed style to spend the day with the PM and his family. Cropped tapered pants from Dolce & Gabbana https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/754156 with a poppy red Emilio Pucci shirt https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/731931 and a dramatic pair of D&G sandals to balance the crop of the pants https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/721681. Kate should wear her hair up and select Bottega Veneta earrings to pick up the green in the sandals https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/752288/bottega_veneta/oxidized-silver-malachite-earrings

Both outfits have an autumn like feel to me which I find rather fitting for late September in Canada. Bold, but not too bold. I wanted to pick up the red of the canadian flag, but in a very subtle way. Autumn for me is a time of natural and earthy tones.

    Have fund everyone!

  37. I chose a Temperly Antilla dress featuring red flowers which is a lovely nod to the host country's colors. Accessories
could include her red Alexander McQueen clutch and a lovely pair of neutral sandals such as Diane von Furstenberg's
Jalen sandals. The perfect pair of earrings are these 17.75 Carat 14K Solid Gold Violeta Ruby Diamond Earrings
that aren't too formal in appearance as the Duchess favors. This outfit would be appropriate for an arrival,
an appearance or a less-formal dinner. I think the dress and neckline would look best with a casual half-up hairstyle.

An outfit for a daytime appearance includes Episode Ankle Length Trousers with Gold Zip Detail with a Michael Kors'
soft gathered top in pleated georgette. Because of the keyhole detailing on the blouse the only jewelry needed would
be her Paule Ka black pearl earrings and her Spread Your Wings Scale bracelet by Catherine Zoraida. Her Fleur
Espadrille Wedges would be the perfect shoe.

Although I've never seen Kate wearing a dressy pants outfit, I couldn't resist adding one more - a stylish Roland
Mouret gathered top with matching pants. Her Calice pink pumps by Rupert Sanderson are ideal. It's a bit out of her
wheelhouse but I think it would a fantastic look on her! It's probably a better fit for when she's visiting children's
centers back home. Her Monica Vinader Riva Diamond Cluster Drop earrings would be a great accent.

  39. Dear all,
I´ve been reading this blog in a while and first of all I have to compliment Charlotte on her wonderful work.
At first, I did not plan to make a suggestion but when I started looking at your ideas I caught fire.
So a huge thanks to everyone especially for bringing up the Queen´s vault website.
    So here are my ideas:

    Evening Look

    Dress:
For a Black Tie event this Zuhair Mourad Floor Length Silk Blend Gown with Lace would be a very appropriate choice for a princess
    http://www.stylebop.com/ie/product_details.php?id=678382&ptemplate=detailview_brand_segm

    Earrings:
As much as I like the pieces the Duchess has already loaned from her Majesty, I would love for her to come up with something bolder and more daring.
Therefore, I suggest The Duchess of Gloucester’s Pendant Earrings from the Queen´s Vault.
    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.de/2013/04/the-duchess-of-gloucesters-pendant.html

    Bracelet:
To complete the look Kate could wear the wedding gift bracelet she received from Prince Charles, that she has worn in LA in 2011.

    Clutch:
I suggest she could give the stunning pink Prada Logo Box another outing, that she recently combined with the Jenny Packham Dress at Houghton Hall.

    Shoes:
In my view, suede shoes just won´t go with such a dress. I suggest The Duchess should combine with the Jimmy Choo Vamp Glitter Sandals she wore for the James Bond premiere.

    Daytime Look

    Dress:
I immediately fell for this beautiful Alexander McQueen Pleated Mini Dress in a striking red. I could imagine the dress being altered for Kate maybe with short sleeves on them.
    http://www.stylebop.com/ie/product_details.php?id=684844

    Earrings:
As it´s a daytime look an understated choice will fit in best, so how about the white topaz Kiki McDonough Grace Earrings.

    Coat:
Late September in Canada could be a little chilly. Kate could wear the popular black coat from her private dressmaker with a brooch on it. She wore the coat in 2015 for a visit to the Brookhill Children´s centre.

    Brooch:
I am a huge fan of the Maple Leaf Brooch Kate wore on her last Canada tour, but there are some other Canada related items in her Majesty´s vault.
I suggest The Duchess could don the Saskatcatchewan Tourmaline Flower Brooch from the Queen´s Vault.
    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.de/2013/10/the-saskatchewan-tourmaline-flower.html

    Shoes:
In order to go with the coat I would suggest the Gianvito Rossi black suede pumps.

I can´t wait for the poll with everyone´s ideas in pictures!

    1. Hi Kirsten: That gown is unique. I wonder how you found it. I'm going to be in Melbourne for a couple days - for meetings - and will be walking around the city the first day I arrive and the last day. Anything in particular I should see? Is there a place you could recommend - with a neighborhood feel - where I might enjoy a glass of wine? Thanks!

I agree. Such a stunning gown. Zuhair does alot of great clothes. He's like Elie Saab and company. Alot of the scandi and other european royals wear such designs. The British royals seem to stick more to British brands (Especially the main line royals because of the scrutiny and how it can bring good PR to the fashion market)

    1. Hello,

I think we should let it run until Thursday or Friday to ensure as many as possible get their looks in.

I really do think someone needs to send Kate a Zuhair Murad Lookbook, there are so many regal gowns in his collections :)

    2. She needs to also know about all her stylists here on this blog. :)

    3. Am having one of my busiest weeks of work so haven't pulled together a look to submit but I read this comment and instantly thought "wouldn't it be amazing if HRH actually wore one of the "looks" that one of the commenters here pulled together? No need for formal acknowledgment - just did it. Wouldn't that cause a sensation? I am sure many submissions will be more than up to the task....Ariagurl.

    4. I agree Ariagurl. Kate could really build her wardrobe from the talent here. Hopefully some of her team reads this blog. I believe they do. Perhaps they will reference her to some of these outfits.

    5. Is there any possibility to send the link to this blog to Kate's staff so that they (+ Kate) can look at all the gorgeous outfits??

    6. 01:44, 14:30,

I thought about e-mailing this thread to Party Pieces. It was the path of least resistance as far as I know. I don't know how to do all the fancy link stuff yet. I think I will wait until all the photos are up and e-mail it then with a request that they pleeeease let Kate see all of the exquisite outfits and all the caring that went into them. What do you think of that?

Ok... I think I finally might be done with my choices!!

My first looks is techincally one look but that pulls double duty. It's for a scenario of them deplaning with the kids (hence no clutch to handle!) and then a change of event to a more cocktail-ish reception (with removal of hat and coat). I've added the maple leaf brooch but not on the coat, but on the dress!

Heres the clothes from top to bottom.
Red repeated pillboxhat from Gina Foster (removed after arrival) placed on her standard low chignon that stays after the hat is removed: http://www.katesclothes.com/hat/seaford-red-pillbox/

    Repeated tanzanite drop earrings: http://whatkatewore.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Kate-Afghan-Service-March-13-2015-Tanzanite-Jewelry-Earrings-G-Collins-and-Sons-Instagram-Pair-Kates-Closeup.jpg

Eponine London red coat/coatdress (Removed after arrival): http://www.eponinelondon.com/1107/

    Repeated Saloni blue dress: http://www.katesclothes.com/dress/martine-crinkle-dress/

Queens diamond Maple leaf brooch (placed on blue dress to be revealed at reception): http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.se/2012/06/maple-leaf-brooch.html

Repeated Tiffany & co dainty diamond bracelet: http://www.katesclothes.com/bracelet/diamonds-yard-bracelet/

New blue and detailed LK bennett shoes: http://www.lkbennett.com/Collections/Shoes/Fauna-Blue-Suede-Courts/p/SCFAUNAMESHBlueTrue%20Blue?show=All

    ***
For look two, I've gone for a repeated dress that I would want to see again! I've also added another one of the Queens brooches, but with a twist!

This is the green McQueen I choose: http://www.perizona.it/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/8a327cc3fa32432207f908ec2f81f00a.jpg?6df44b

And here is another of the queens Maple leaf brooches (and the inspiration for my colourscheme):
    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.se/2013/09/the-enamel-maple-leaves-brooch.html

The Twist? Having it in the hair, similar to this:
    http://womenitems.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/image019.jpg

I would add these golden Rupert Sanderson shoes to make the slit of the dress even more of a feature: http://www.rupertsanderson.com/zelena-gold-mirror.html#.V7JimFuLRdh

For jewelry I choose a pair of Monica Vinander earrings: http://www.monicavinader.com/baja-precious-cocktail-earrings/rose-gold-vermeil-baja-precious-cocktail-earrings-ruby?search=%2Fshop%2Fearrings#slide-1

and a bracelet from Annoushka: http://www.annoushka.com/uk/nectar-cherry-droplet-bracelet.html

For a clutch, I choose this piece from Mascaro: http://www.mascaro.com/accessories-1/handbags-clutches-180.html

Also, a more rasperry coloured lip would look nice to pull together the colours from the hair brooch.

Also stumbled over this site that has some GREAT coats. A canadian brand. I hope Kate has stumbled over it too: http://www.sentaler.com/

Rebecca, I too was tempted to choose the green McQueen. One of my all time favourites and I have been waiting for a repeat for many years. I adore Rupert Sanderson shoes and the golden heels you've picked would work amazing with the dress. And I love the addition of ruby/burgundy. Great colour combination.

I did some research, and even though red is most probably a go to color on this tour, the Yukon flag has green and blue in it. Hence, I picked a gown with a greenish bluish color to it to play tribute the provinces flag!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh my ... I've really really tried, Charlotte, NOT to cave and participate in your outfit challenge - especially since your black tie selection sets the bar excessively high - sigh -
Oh well, it's the Olympics and everybody's competing and then there's the sad fact that I love picking black (or white) tie outfits for The Duchess :D --- aaaand, here goes:

    The Dress:
of course it is in Canada's red but I sought one not having lace but rather being a little reminiscent of the dark teal dress the Duchess wore to the New York St. Andrews reception.
    http://www.jmrouge.fr/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/robe-rouge-fluide-defile-2015.jpg
If sprucing up by glitter were necessary (but I don't know that it is) one could pin the Canadian Maple Leaf Brooch on the dress ...

    The Shoes and Clutch:
something silver and grey to not distract from the beautiful lines of the dress

    https://cdnc.lystit.com/520/650/n/photos/farfetch/11446989-BLUE-d93cf62c-.jpeg

    The Earrings:
Same as your choice, Charlotte - Chandelier earrings worn for bafta

    and finally -

    The Bracelet:
It just has to be Queen Mary’s Diamond Bar Choker Bracelet ... it's so pretty :)

    1. Glad you participated. That gown is definitely in my top ten of faves. There really are so many beautiful looks but it's also about "what would Kate wear?" and I could see her wearing that gown (if not today, in a few more years). And the "grayish" metallics are the right choice versus a bright shiny sliver.

All the gown choices are so splendid - my eyes are simply dazzled - I can't even chose a favourite although Charlotte got us off to a brilliant start with her red gown and very smart day outfit.
Beautiful choices for day dresses too -I'm so excited to see the forthcoming slides with everything put together. I love the jewellery choices - especially pleased to see mention of that other maple leaf brooch - another I've been dying to see - and it would make a lovely hair ornament - and also the tourmaline brooch which is a particular favourite of mine - the queen still wears it but it would make a great loan. And I'm hoping to see the polar bear brooch - and chose a tuxedo suit for it - so many wonderful possibilities and since Kate will hopefully be queen of Canada someday (with sadness but no offense to Canadians who feel otherwise) I think it would be so appropriate if she would make use of their imagery, their designers and especially their gifts from the past - especially at a time when trade with Canada is much at issue with both the EU and Britain now.
We saw more use of India designers - although not as many as I had hoped, so perhaps Kate is picking up the idea - and one of the gowns picked here for the Chinese banquet showed up in India - so here's hoping some of the marvellous ideas here will appear if not in Canada - someday in the future.

  65. Thanks Charlotte for this opportunity to be a stylist for a day. And who doesn't love spending a lot of money - that's not yours! Here are my choices (and I have to admit, it was really hard to choose and I hope I haven't repeated anything that someone else selected - if I did, please eliminate it!):

Should Kate be attending a formal event in British Columbia or perhaps in the very beautiful city of Victoria I choose this rather romantic, long sleeve light blue gown from Jenny Packham. Pair it with her LK Bennet Pink Bow heels and those lovely pink Kiki McDonough Classic cushion drop earrings (the dress doesn't need much) and finishing with the bespoke Alexander McQueen clutch, similar to the brand’s Knuckle Box or Knuckle Duster clutch (originally carried with the other baby blue Packham).

    http://www.jennypackham.com/pages/rrtw-ss14#carousel_holder

(Charlotte it's in the 'carousel' so you might have to scroll down - image: 09.YD158L)

I came across this beautiful pink coat by Mackage and couldn't resist using this as the basis for my outfit that would enable another one of HM's beautiful broaches with Canadian roots to be worn because I am dreaming that they'll visit the Butchart Gardens and a lovely pink would work perfectly for photos. All it needs is a lovely sheath dress underneath and so I turned to Reiss and feel this is right in Kate's wheelhouse currently and have always liked her cream LK Bennet Harper Suede heels. She could carry the same clutch as above but we all know she'll go with the ivory suede clutch. The diamond art-deco earrings would be sublime.

And who wouldn't love to see Kate in this for a fun day out in the country with the kids (adding this because I don't know if there will be very many "casual outdoor outfits". Love this gingham jacket with the leather trim and a beautiful pair of Ralph Lauren twill skinny pants:

After posting my casual day outfit yesterday, here is my potential evening look for Kate. Of course the gown is red because I imagine the gala would be held in honour of Canada's anniversary and Kate likes to 'theme dress'.

  68. Yes, the Sentaler coats are lovely. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau (the Canadian Prime Minister's wife) wore a white Sentaler coat to her husband's swearing-in, and not too much later wore a gray Sentaler coat to the national Remembrance Day service. (Charlotte, I hope this comment doesn't duplicate itself. I had a previous version ready to go and then it vanished on me!)

  69. Sue T, I love the Temperley Evadine dress so much and can definitely see Kate wearing it. Love the Sorel boot, too. Love the Loft and Ann Taylor choices too, as they are favorite stores of mine, but unfortunately don't think Kate will ever wear anything from them. Although she has worn J. Crew which has been another American based favorite of mine. However, J Crew has always had that "sailing" style which we know Kate goes for.

  70. Also forgot to mention....I had suggested in last year's Dream Look poll that I would love to see Kate wear a bootcut jean, (although for some reason that post never made it to the blog) as you have posted here with your Loft jean. However, we have not seen her wear one yet! It would be such a nice change from the skinny jeans.

Formal look - I have been looking at everyone's choices and there are some truly exquisite gowns to choose from. I usually want to see her in Saab or Murad but I found an Erdem design and I just keep going back to it.

Erdem's Goodard gown - https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/704398/Roland_Mouret/goodard-gathered-silk-crepe-de-chine-gown isn't embellished and seems a bit plain but the draping and gathering details add a little something to it. It would be lovely on Catherine because she is tall and willowy.

Jewelry - Since the gown is not embellished and appears simple she could wear a lot of jewelry before seeming over the top. Here is one way I would style this dress:

Jewels - I love the pair she wears often that are loaned to her by the queen but I want to see something new to her. The Greville Chandelier Earrings would look amazing on her. Pair those earrings with one of the queen's Colette necklaces and with the two diamond bangles she would have a good start. If it were me I would put one of Queen Mary's chain link bracelets in between the two bangles. The shoes are a little sassy and people would be able to see them due to the slit in the dress. Add a pair of white elbow or opera length gloves for more glamour and I think the simplicity of the dress would let Catherine and the jewels shine.

Poor Charlotte - I fear you're drowning under figurative piles of silk and lace gowns, diamante bags and glittery shoes - not to mention an extraordinary selection of jewels and fabulous day wear - but what an amazing amount of talent is here - and not just talent but thought and caring and attention to detail as well. It's incredible! If I were Kate, I would be hugely flattered that people have been inspired by her beauty to come up with these tremendous and appropriate ideas.

And Courtney, thrilled to see Emma joining us, but Erika, can't Catherine find a computer and jump in - or have I missed her - I remember her brilliant red gown from last time.

Agreed on the AT styles, but I couldn't resist adding them! And... if a girl from Bucklebury can meet and marry the handsome Prince of her dreams, a girl from New Jersey can dream of her favorite Royal wearing Ann Taylor! Lol!

Let's hope someone connected to the Duchess reads this blog and finds a great pair of bootcut jeans for her to try on -- they don't even need to be Loft! ;-)

I'm waiting anxiously now to see all the outfit postings! Everyone has put so much of themselves into this project and done such a marvelous job!

  92. Dear all! First of all thanks to Charlotte for running this post once again! I am a silent reader of this blog and I really enjoy reading it! It's so much fun! Here is my contribution!

    Day look:

    Coat: http://gb.maxmara.com/p-1016136906019-manuela-red

    Dress: https://www.theoutnet.com/en-GB/product/Valentino/Pussy-bow-silk-georgette-midi-dress/608425

    Accessories:

    Earrings: http://www.linksoflondon.com/us-en/hope-egg-earrings-white-topaz/prod=5040-0857

As the dress comes with a belt, I would remove it and instead use this: https://www.reiss.com/p/metaldetail-belt-womens-broadway-in-black/?category_id=10431

    Purse: https://www.aspinaloflondon.com/products/lottie-chain-bag-in-black-pebble

Shoes: The Black Gianvito Rossi pumps

For the black tie event, I would like to see the Duchess (re-)wearing the black McQueen dress, first worn in 2011: http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2012/news/120102/prince-william-300.jpg

The dress would be accessorised with the same jewellery (necklace, earrings and bracelet).

As regards to the purse, there are 2 options either 1) https://scontent-cdg2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/564676_333465660075639_397491095_n.jpg?oh=cb37843d02f3f8365ba243cdc7b521be&oe=581A7B64

or 2) the black Prada satin first sported during the India tour earlier this year: https://scontent-cdg2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/l/t1.0-9/12974284_1027426517346213_5402762372067653772_n.jpg?oh=73573a97e5fdf81b24b9437ef8a5f6c9&oe=5810C5F0

Instead of the Jimmy Choo pumps, I would opt for the Gianvito Rossi pumps and would have her hair in an updo. This way, the jewellery will take centre stage!

    Thanks again!

I really like how fresh the colourscheme looks without feeling out of place in autumn! :)

  98. Erika, good for you selecting a hat - I didn't think about it but I will next time. Both choices are lovely. I could see Kate wearing one of the Erdem evening gowns with the floral overlay. And there are many beautiful ones to pick from.

  99. Casey: I think your gown - and wow, St. John - looks like a dress would have worn. And she'd rock that dress today at age 55. There's no doubt in my mind.

  100. I still can't see the full length dress, but I loved the show! Victorian Gothic . . . sort of like what a sexy Jane Eyre would wear to drive Mr. Rochester crazy. :)

By the way, there is no Young Designer Competition. You and Erika both have an amazing eye. You pick sophisticated yet fun pieces and I enjoy your choices more than I enjoy the adults'. (Sorry, adults!)
