Styling Kate: Submit Your Looks for the Dutch State Banquet!

It's that time of year again! As it's been such a quiet summer on the blog, I thought it might fun to hold our annual 'Styling Kate' post a couple of weeks early this year. As always, we're asking you to indulge your inner stylist and choose the ideal ensemble you would like to see the Duchess wear to a specific event. Last year, we chose Royal Ascot and a movie premiere. This time, I've chosen a real event which I think will prove popular with those who enjoy tiaras and a touch of sparkle :)

With news, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands will make an official State visit to the UK in October, the itinerary is certain to include the glamorous State dinner. It is expect William and Kate will be there. The white-tie event is one of only a handful of occasions on the royal calendar where the royals bring out their tiaras (this is a great excuse to raid the royal jewel vault).

Kate has attended two State banquets thus far. A refresher of her sartorial choices on both occasions: in 2015, the Duchess wore a bespoke red Jenny Packham gown, the Queen Mother's Lotus Flower tiara, the Queen's Diamond Chandelier earrings and Her Majesty's Wedding Gift Bracelet, and a bracelet worn by Queen Mary.

For the 2017 Spanish State banquet, Kate debuted a new bespoke pink Marchesa gown. It featured distinctive flared cuffs, a plunging neckline and a v-neckline at the back.

It was teamed with the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, Diana's pearl and diamond earrings and the Queen's Ruby and Diamond Floral Bandeau Necklace.

For those interested in sartorial diplomacy, the colours of the Dutch national flag are red, white and blue, but around the world, the Netherlands is closely identified with orange.

More from Dutch Amsterdam:

'If you have ever watched the Dutch national soccer team play football anywhere in the world — or if you’ve been in Amsterdam during Holland’s annual King’s Day celebration (formerly Queen’s Day) — you may wonder why nearly all Dutch people dress in orange during such occasions.
After all, the colors of the official Dutch flag are red, white, and blue. The answer is simple: Orange is the color of the Dutch Royal Family, which hails from the House of Orange.
On royal birthdays, the Dutch tricolor is flown with an orange pennant above it. Each year on April 27, Amsterdam — and indeed the entire county — turns orange. Revelers can be heard to sing, “Oranje boven, oranje boven. leve the Koning!” (Orange on top, Orange on top. Long Live the King!).'

The Netherlands produces approximately nine billion flower bulbs annually. Of those bulbs, the tulip (in a variety of colors) remains the most popular and widely recognized bulb by gardeners worldwide. Below, an aerial photo of tulip fields.

Designers and Retailers:

Before You Get Started:

  • Leave a comment with your suggestions. Please include links to the designer/retailer in order for me to obtain images and to share your selection.
  • I would be very grateful if you could include the colour of your accessories, as links to retailers can often land on shoes where several colours are available.
  • Don't forget to leave a name or a moniker in order to ensure I can appropriately credit your look.
  • The look can simply consist of one item, for example, a dress. If you wish, however, you can include footwear, a tiara, jewellery, a clutch, bag, etc. It can be as simple or as detailed as you want. Remember you're the stylist!
  • Feel free to choose pieces already in Kate's closet.
  • Please submit one look only.
  • Submissions for the post showcasing all looks will be accepted until midnight on Monday, 6 August.

Happy styling! I'm very excited to see your submissions :)

On the Cambridge front, Hello! reports the family are expected to return from Mustique this week. On Saturday, William and Harry's friend Charlie van Straubenzee is marrying Daisy Jenks in Surrey. Harry is best man at the wedding and according to photographers on Twitter, William will also be there. There's a possibility Kate will join him.

With this tiara, the Oriental Circlet, although any tiara with this dress is a bit high on the bling scale: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-oriental-circlet.html

That tiara is one of my absolute favourites! Too bad it's "reserved" for queens. Appearantly Queen Victoria said it should only be worn by Queens and Queen consorts. The Queen has only worn it once I think, and that was after the Queen mother passed (who held on to the tiara until her death) and it saddens me since it's probably one of my all time faves in their collection!

    2. Oh, I didn’t know that, Rebecca! That’s a bummer :( I love that tiara, too. I wonder if a “future” Queen could be included at some stage (soon!)...

Kim - I really like that dress and I think a state visit is the ideal place to have a blingy gown and accessories.

Yippie! I love when we do these! Extra fun with all the bling! (All the purples in my post are supposed to be matching so some imagination might be needed!). The choices are "realistic" in that the brands are likely and most of the things are already owned. The styles on the other hand might be more me than Kate but they *could* possibly happen.

The dress I would love something "clean" and also super-princessy like this shape. In a deep purple it would look stunning. I would imagine it being sewn up bespoke by McQueen: https://imgur.com/a/uDJUefF
The centerpiece of the look would be the amethyst-brooch worn as a pendant in the collet necklace she's previously worn: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/06/kent-amethyst-demi-parure.html & http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2017/12/the-2017-diplomatic-reception-and-new.html
Other jewels would include these earrings and bracelet: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-greville-chandelier-earrings.html & http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-wedding-gift-bracelet.html
And for the crowning glory, a wonderful "wall of diamonds": http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/01/queen-alexandras-kokoshnik-tiara.html
Maybe it could be nestled in an updo like this: https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/A8h_SgEQQMMH6XIt_dxGiKE/

    1. I've wanted her to wear something like this for a long time. Purple is my favorite color and Kate would pull it off with aplomb. Very regal look and one can never go wrong with a wall of diamonds, can they.

    2. Courtney from NC1 August 2018 at 05:17

That is a princess perfect look! Love the dress and would love to see what simple tweaks McQueen would add to the dress to make it a Catherine Couture! The brooch and collet would look great together and even better with that dress. And sigh to see the great wall of diamonds on Kate!!! Love the total look.

    3. I second your look Rebecca!!! Diamonds and all, she would look stunning and regal, well done!

  4. The cape gown Kate wore while pregnant in Norway was a show-stopper so I think I would love to see her in another cape dress. This Marchesa dress is a brand we've seen her in before so it has a chance! https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/1057983/marchesa_notte/cape-effect-embellished-crepe-gown
Add the lotus flower tiara and Kate's pink and green Kiki earrings http://katemiddletonreview.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Kiki-McDonough-Candy-Pink-Tourmaline-and-Green-Amethyst-Drop-Earrings.jpg

I would LOVE a cape dress. Am very fond of capes in most of its forms! Marchesa is probably ruled out due to all the controversy (understandably, but it sucks because I love the look of their stuff!)

Not everyone can pull off a cape dress but with her height Kate totally can! Love the earrings with the dress.

  5. I had a couple of dresses I liked, but went this one because I love color and feel it would move well. I think it looks regal. Plus I think the neckline would be gorgeous on Kate.

Since I blew my budget on the dress, might as well go for a repeat on the shoes:

Also her Prada clutch, which is a repeat as well:

I would pair that with the Cartier Halo Tiara that Kate wore to her wedding.

For jewelry I would use THE KING KHALID OF SAUDI ARABIA NECKLACE

    And for earrings:

I decided against a bracelet because the necklace and tiara add a lot of sparkle. Plus I need to leave for work, and don't have time to decide!

Wouldn't it be amazing to have a budget to blow which allowed for that dress? As well as knowing you already have the really expensive jewelry pieces waiting for you? That dress is definitely dramatic enough for a state dinner and I love the different shades of blue. Lovely choice.

Kate's figure would definitely do that dress justice! The only hitch I see is that Camilla wears that tiara quite often and it's been loaned to her for a while now or at least she's been the sole wearer for awhile. It's a very large piece, do you think Kate could pull it off? I go back and forth on that. The color if the aquamarines would look amazing with that dress.

This is such a well rounded look. Every piece works perfectly with the rest. This dress is saved in two of my Pinterest boards. One of them is things I'd love to see Kate wear and the other is things I'd wear if I had the money and occasion to do so!

  11. Ok, so this is something I would love to see Kate wear, but would be highly unlikely that she ever would. Not to a state banquet anyway, lol. I’m not picking shoes since we wouldn’t see them.

Dress (although the sleeves would need to be shortened and make sure to look at the back view):
    https://www.neimanmarcus.com/p/brandon-maxwell-long-sleeve-gown-with-waterfall-train-prod202830603?icid=&searchType=EndecaDrivenCat&rte=%252Fcategory.service%253FitemId%253Dcat56440732%2526pageSize%253D30%2526No%253D240%2526Ns%253DPCS_SORT%2526refinements%253D4294913919%252C4294847335&eItemId=prod202830603&xbcpath=cat000000_cat000001_cat000727_cat56440732&cmCat=product

Tiara (if we’re picking a dream outfit, I’d pick this one, even though it’s not in her current rotation or is likely to be any time soon):
    http://orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2011/03/tiara-thursday-queen-marys-fringe-tiara.html?m=1

    Earrings (again, highly unlikely):
    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/08/the-greville-peardrop-earrings.html?m=1

Brooch worn as a hair ornament, maybe on the back (very, very unlikely):
    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/06/the-jardine-star-brooch.html?m=1

I’m opting for no necklace or bracelets because I don’t think they’d go with the gown.

      What a lovely dress!

  14. Seven years after her marriage and with a dynamic royal like Maxima visiting, I believe Kate should go all out: Here are my choices. Many thanks, Charlotte!

For a gown I choice a Walker gown I became enchanted with last year (thinking ahead). The silk is based on designs in Flemish paintings. Considering the magnificent Dutch still-life paintings and Kate's love of art - I can't think of a better choice and the colours will pick up the orders I mention below. - The Jan B gown found in their current collection.

    https://catherinewalker.com/jan-b/

For shoes a striking new pair by a new British designer for Kate. In navy blue satin.

    https://matchesfashion.com/products/Sophia-Webster-Lucia-ruffle-embellished-satin-sandals--1211107

The dress has a gorgeous skirt for walking into the banquet but a plain sexy modern bodice. That's good because I think it's time Kate had some orders. I'm awarding her the Queen's Order - if William doesn't want ivory, it could be done in porcelain (as a descendant of the potteries, I favour that,) or enamel - also a British tradition. I'm also requesting the Dutch give Kate a sash for an order as they did for Diana - most probably the Order of the House of Orange.

I also think it's time to lay ghost to rest and bring Diana's sapphire choker out. Here's a link for the order, the sash, (on Diana) and the choker. The photos I wish are the fifth down - one of Diana with the sash and one of her with the choker. (Photos 5th Down.) Kate's earrings are also shown here and can be worn.

    orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2012/08/flashback-friday-few-of-dianas-sapphires.html

Finally for a tiara, I think the choker would be complimented by the sapphire badeau. Since it wasn't used for the recent wedding why not bring it out - if it still exists. The only colour photo - not good is of Margaret but any will do.

    orderofsplendor.blogspot.com/2011/03/tiara-thursday-marie-feodorovnas.html

Finally to pin that Dutch order - a brooch the queen rarely wears.

    1. Julia, I really like this look. The dress is gorgeous with a nod to the Dutch with the Flemish painting style print. That's very clever! I'd also love for Kate to bring the sapphires out. I really think it is time :)

    2. I agree it's time for Kate to have some orders! That is also a great dress, well done on finding one that has some Dutch meaning!

    5. Gorgeous dress and a perfect nod to the Dutch guests of honor! Lovely choices all around, Julia!

      Delete
    6. I love that you have given it some serious thought (and the dress as such which would nicely complement a Dutch order!), but you do realise that Flemish painters are Belgium and not Dutch? Probably Max and Wax would have a blast and wouldn’t mind, but (UK) press would be all over her ... :-)

      Delete
    7. Anonymous I'm aware of the modern distinctions (and of the distinction between Flemish and Walloon so even if Philippe and Mathide were visiting it could be an issue.)

But I think the problem is not in the dress but in the choice of name Catherine Walker's firm used. (She herself would probably have been more careful as she studied in Lille on the border.) I would have been happy if they had called the style Netherlandish instead, but the fact is still life of this sort of floral still life was done as much by Dutch painters as Flemish ones in an era where borders were more fluid. I'm thinking only an expert could tell the paintings apart. For instance Abraham Mignon who was born in Germany (not then unified) but died in the Netherlands who did still lives that are in the Rijksmuseum and whose paintings could easily have inspired this dress. (I love that museum and recommend it to everyone - it's a necessary visit of a lifetime.)

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Mignon

Having said that, I believe because of the name of the dress, it is after a work by an Jan Philip van Thielen who was Flemish but according to Wiki collaborated with Flemish and Dutch painters of the time. One of his paintings is in the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge and may have inspired this print.
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Philip_van_Thielen

So maybe there should be a bespoke reprinting done in a still life by a Dutch painter. It would be very similar. I wouldn't want Kate to get in trouble with the Daily Mail or the Express or the Telegraph which has got very gossipy of late, over wearing the wrong flowers on her dress -

Or better yet, very the design a bit and rename the look Netherlandish and no one would be the wiser.

Maxima herself routinely wears Natan outfits - a Belgium designer. However, I have heard grumbles about that from Dutch milliners - and plenty of grumbles about Natan from everyone. (Mathilde wears his designs too - in fact recently they wore the same dress.)
If the queens of those two nations share a designer, I think Kate would be safe wearing my choice which I still love.

If I had to wager on it, I'd guess Maxima will wear a gown by a Dutch designer for this banquet though - probably another Jan, Jan Taminiau. We'll see if I'm right.

Apologies for my spelling of bandeau and other typos - these nighttime posts get to me.

      Delete
    8. The inspiration may be Flemish but looks just like a floral still life indicative of the Dutch Masters.

    9. Julia. My, that is a stunning dress. I would be delighted to see Catherine where something like this!!!

    10. Courtney from NC1 August 2018 at 05:54

The bodice is perfect for letting the jewelry take center stage. I think Kate could definitely pull off the choker and I really like those shoes!

      Delete
    11. Borders aside, I thought using art as a touchstone and homage is a fantastically clever idea. Perhaps pearl earrings? The dress somehow looks very "Kate" to me.
I wonder how Kate would adapt Norman Rockwell to couture for a US State banquet?

    1. I didn't mention this earlier, but what are your opinions on Kate getting a family order?

      Delete
    2. It's certainly possible Ruth. There's no official announcement, so we'll only know when Kate attends a white-tie event. As it is given at the Queen's pleasure we will never specifically know the criteria. If we look at the previous generation of royal wives, I believe Diana received the RFO after a year of marriage. Sophie received hers after five years and the Duchess of York was never given it. The Duchess of Cornwall received hers after two years of marriage.

The looks you have all chosen are amazing. You keep raising the bar every year. The gowns, the sparkle! I'm very excited to start putting them together :)

      Delete
    3. I’m surprised she doesn’t have the family order yet. Possibly HM is trying to do her a kindness, thinking she could eventually end up with as many as three others (Charles, William, George) and that’s a lot to wear. But you can’t predict the future. I’d like to see her receive one now.

Im with you Juniper, Now would be good:)

    5. I keep thinking ivory may be the problem - William's views have been so adamant - even talking about destroying the palace's historic ivory, that it seems unthinkable Kate could wear ivory. Yet, to make the orders of something new - porcelain or enamel as I suggested above - and there is precedent for other things - would call attention to the royal ladies who do wear ivory orders. It's very awkward.

But it doesn't seem right that Kate who is working for the royal family would not have the queen's order - it is a unique thing - especially in years to come when the queen is sadly gone. The same for Meghan in a few years. And I really think Beatrice and Eugenie, the queen's granddaughters may end up attending state banquets. Whilst Charles has spoken of a smaller family, someone will have to fill in for the elderly cousins who attend now - and give the guests the honour of being next to a royal. The York girls' attendance at the recent Commonwealth reception could be the start - and orders would be appropriate. But then what of Zara who doesn't attend - and Louise who may well take on royal duties - being in a gap between generations?

I've always thought European royals gave out honours a bit too freely but I'm starting to see there's an advantage of pinning them on babies. It saves all this speculation about how they are earned - if they are earned. It's awkward for instance that Diana never was given the Royal Victorian Order for all the work she did but Camilla did receive it for far less. Has it to do with merit or personalities? That's why I'm beginning to think it's better just to say royal ladies get the reigning monarch's order. And with her increased work earlier this year, it does seem time for Kate to receive it now. Whilst I understand what Juniper says, I can't believe the queen never means for her to have it when others do. So let's hope it appears - since Maxima will be wearing all hers - and I think it would be lovely if William and Kate - and Charles and Camilla appeared in the official photographs now Philip is retired.

Kate would be stunning in that color!

      Delete
    7. I see no reason why to give her an order now than a year ago. If it is given based on her service to the monarch/y then it can wait. Her numbers would be still the lowest at the end of the year, because of the pregnancy and other reasons. But I expect no wonders years to come.

    Gown: https://www.net-a-porter.com/nz/en/product/1067017/roland_mouret/coleman-stretch-crepe-gown
I chose this simple but stylish Roland Mouret gown as I love the silhouette and the lovely red colour (one of the colours of the Dutch flag!). I also feel like it has some elements from both of the last two gowns she has worn to previous state banquets i.e. the red colour, like the first Jenny Packham & the bell sleeves from the Marchesa. I also like the square neckline which can easily show off an amazing necklace from the royal vault!

Now, the most important part - jewels! I always find this part the hardest....
    Earrings: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-greville-chandelier-earrings.html
The Queen's Greville chandelier earrings are stunning. They have also previously been worn on a state visit to the Netherlands.

    Necklace: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/04/ruby-and-diamond-floral-bandeau-necklace.html
She has worn this gorgeous necklace before and I would like to see her wear it again.

    Bracelet: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2017/11/the-diamond-quatrefoil-bracelet.html
I think this bracelet would be stunning with the 3/4 bell cuffs of the dress.

    Tiara: http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-oriental-circlet.html
I'd love to see this tiara on Kate. As much as I like the CLK tiara & the Lotus Flower, I think this would look great on her & it would be wonderful to see her branch out with more tiaras! :P

I was wondering whether to add shoes & a clutch, but we never get to see them at these events, so I left them out.

I've chosen a dress from a brand I don't think Kate's worn before, but I think it's the kind of dress you imagine a princess wearing, with a wonderful big skirt. I kind of want that dress. It's ethereal and so simply but packs a punch. I'm not a huge fan of that tiara on Sophie but against Kate's dark hair it would really pop.

Thanks so much for hosting this again, I always enjoy it so much!

I put together a very regal look consisting of lovely creme colours:

A regal Jenny Packham gown with flowing tulle skirt:

    Kate's Jenny Packham Casa clutch:

    Her LK Bennett Floret courts:

    Queen Mary's chain link bracelet:

I know this will turn out to be a more unpopular choice, but I would have Kate wear the Cartier Halo tiara again. While many here are probably going for the more eye-catching, bigger tiaras, I would love to see her wedding tiara again, with different hairstyles.

  32. Here goes my first participation in the styling challenge! I truly enjoy seeing the lovely looks put together by this stylish community, so I'm going to give it my best beginner's try.

Though I pondered the sartorial diplomacy of orange, it just didn't seem to fit Kate's pattern of color. Instead, I settled on a regal midnight blue for evening gown perfection:

    https://www.net-a-porter.com/us/en/product/1062729/reem_acra/draped-off-the-shoulder-satin-gown

The dropped neckline of the Reem Acra gown makes way for this stunning piece:

    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-dubai-looped-sapphire-demi-parure.html

    With matching earrings:

    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-dubai-looped-sapphire-demi-parure.html

And the only repeat of the look would be on Kate's wrist:

    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2015/10/queen-marys-diamond-bar-choker-bracelet.html

The crowning glory was truly the hardest part of this styling, as tiaras seem so personal to the wearer. So, though I know full well that the Queen wore this very tiara to a Diplomatic Reception two years prior, I'm letting my sapphire heart rule over my head:

    http://queensjewelvault.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-george-vi-and-modern-sapphire-set.html

Such a stunning piece requires a sleek updo. I favor Kate's hair pulled away from her forehead, so I'd like to see a similar style to the one she wore at the 2012 London Olympics gala. The makeup with this look was stunning as well!:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=duchess+of+cambridge+updos&rlz=1C1CHXU_enUS695US705&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjrjZe_-8ncAhVFyFQKHQ57DM0Q_AUICigB&biw=1600&bih=767#imgrc=f2ZdjG89HfZRIM:

Oh, I almost forgot the shoes!:

    https://www.saksfifthavenue.com/main/ProductDetail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374306624256&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524447231457&R=191714740051&P_name=Jimmy+Choo&N=306624256&bmUID=mjMGZUf

And, because life is short, my jaw would drop straight to the floor if Kate showcased the aforementioned jewels atop a pair of beautiful, silk white gloves:

    https://www.corneliajames.com/collections/silk-gloves/products/desdemona-silk-glove

All of this deep, midnight blue recalls Kate's iconic engagement look, but I'm not opposed to it! She's a glorious mother of three and her sapphire ring would especially dazzle with this ensemble, in my opinion. :)

Thanks for such a fun opportunity, Charlotte!

  36. I picked a gorgeous orange Monique Lhuillier gown. It caught my eye because the colour is really unusual, but I am sure it would look so pretty with Kate's hair colour! Also, as you said Charlotte, it is the official colour of the royal house of Orange and associated with the Netherlands (and we all know Kate likes to include such things into her looks).

    https://moniquelhuillier.com/collections/gowns/products/strapless-emb-hi-low-gown

I love all the prestigeous old jewellery in the Royal collection, but since I can choose whatever I want here, she should get a new, more modern, necklace (but not any less regal, it is very eye-cathing and expensive):
    https://www.itshot.com/designer-pearl-necklace-with-diamonds-1796ct-18k-luccello-jewelry

(The colour is a light peachy champagne)

And I know that this is not a realistic tiara choice for Kate at all, because it belongs to Princess Alexandra and she probably won't grant others access to it, but I would love to see Kate in the Oglivy tiara! It is such a beautiful and delicate piece and since this is design your dream look, I can wish for anything :)

    1. The dress is unusual and gorgeous. Orange is hard, if it worked with Catherine's coloring it would be very pretty. I would use a more delicate shoe with the dress and even though I love the necklace I would use a simple diamond necklace and simple diamond earrings from the BRF collection. Thanks for sharing.

    Hello!

In dressing Kate, I would choose The ivory Carolina Herrera silk gown featuring a high neck, an abstract print and an open back, plus one unexpected pop of color via an orange insert at the hemline. Perhaps a bit more fitted.

    https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch&q=Ali%20larter%20carolina%20herrera%20ivory%20gown%20orange%20hem%202014&oq=Ali%20larter%20carolina%20herrera%20ivory%20gown%20orange%20hem%202014&aqs=mobile-gws-lite..&ved=2ahUKEwjIrfHtp8rcAhUGy4MKHRuMDrkQ2-cCegQIABAB&client=ms-android-verizon#imgrc=i_BeUtJkElgUnM

I would pair it with her black Gianvito Rossi Crisscross Ankle-Wrap Suede Sandals.

I'd love to see her wear the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara, and the diamond bracelet and matching earrings from the BAFTA event in Los Angeles in 2011.

Thanks for doing this. It's so much fun!

This dress would look so beautiful with the shimmering lights of the state banquet. She would just sparkle all the way down.

  45. Charlotte, Do you think there’s any chance that Duchess Kate may be given the Royal Victorian Order Award by the Queen before the banquet? I thought it might be fun to put together an outfit that would, to some extent, match the colours in the badge and ribbon.

  46. I'm seeing so many lovely gowns here - dazzling gold, a stunning green cape gown - some glorious blue gowns. And that beautiful Murad gown that does look like tulips. People are coming up with designers I'd love to see Kate in like Lhuillier. It's going to be so exciting to see all the looks put together with their jewels and accessories. And lovely to see people who haven't commented before participating. The creativity is amazing.

    Here is my addition!

Dress: it is from designer Romona Keveza who Kate hasn't worn but this color is one she has worn more than once before and she wears it well. It isn't super flashy but that works for two reasons. The first is that she isn't going to be the center of attention with two much loved queens there, especially since Queen Maxima is an amazing state dinner dresser. Secondly it serves as a canvas for the most important part of her look: the jewels! The bodice would need a few slight adjustments to make it State Dinner appropriate and hopefully to work better with a sash and order. There is a front and side view to give you a more complete idea of the dress:

    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060591/
    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060587/

Shoes: strappy metallic silver heels have just enough sizzle to work with the look.

    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060605/

Clutch: an homage to her country I just couldn't resist this Alexander McQueen Britannia clutch in silver. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060586/

Hair: She'll need some fabulous tiara hair to pull off the look and this would work well and is a somewhat different look for her. Perfect place to nestle the tiara: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060710/

Makeup: a dramatic eye would look amazing on Kate: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060894/

On to the most fun items!

Necklace, earrings and bracelet: we have seen Kate in some beautiful emerald pieces before and I think they'd be perfect with this dress. So the emerald and diamond necklace she wore to the BAFTAs and maybe it has another form with more dangly pieces to balance it. The bracelet she wore in NYC that matches and the dangly earrings she wore in NYC to round it out!

    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060633/
    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060637/

Brooch: to attach her order sash I'd love to see her borrow a brooch from the queen such as the Scroll Cambridge Emerald Brooch. It is one the queen doesn't wear often and would be a great match for her outfit and for the Duchess of Cambridge.
    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060790/

Saved the best for last! I just don't think any of the tiaras she has worn so far work great with this look. For that reason, and because I'd love to see her expand her tiara repertoire, I would like to see the queen loan her Queen Mary's Fringe Tiara. The queen has another fringe type that packs more of a wallop. The shape of the fringe would balance out Kate's emerald necklace shape with the dangly attachment and would work well with the shape of her face.

    https://www.pinterest.com/pin/234961305544060999/

That's my look for State Visit Kate 2018! I've loved seeing everyone's choices and, as always, we have some very talented people reading this blog.

Charlotte - my 11 year old daughter, Emma, would like to design a look. Would that be okay? I know these posts are a ton of work for you. If not it's totally okay. I told her if not she can design the next look for me. Thank you for all that you do on this blog as well as MAM!

This was so much fun – I haven’t done one before, so jumped at this chance!
For Kate’s dress, I have chosen the Jovani navy satin dress to set off the gorgeous King George VI necklace (without the drop), earrings and bracelet. For her tiara, I would have loved to see her in Princess Margaret’s ‘Poltimore’ – it is simply beautiful (http://www.thecourtjeweller.com/2014/08/the-poltimore-tiara.html) – but I’m going to settle for the Delhi Durbar tiara. It looks tricky to wear – doesn’t suit Camilla in my humble opinion – so we would need some decent hair – maybe a french roll. Accessorising with her satin Anya Hindmarch ‘Maud’ clutch to match the dress, and bespoke navy satin Christian Louboutin ‘Sandale du Desert’.

I would love to see her wearing the beautiful royal blue beaded evening dress and matching clutch worn in India in 2016 along with the tiara, earrings and bracelet from the George VI and Modern Sapphire Set.

Those sapphires would be perfect for that dress.

I can picture Kate on this dress in my mind's eye. Paired with the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara it would be a splendid look.

  60. I decided to go for a very classic state banquet look with a white gown (that doesn't look to bride-like) and compliment its simple silhouette eith dazzling jewellery.

The simplistic yet elegant gown would showcase the Cambridge lover's knot tiara perfectly (you don't need a link for that one since you will probably use the same pic for everyone who picks this crown, right?) If you should need a link for the tiara, let me know Charlotte :))

  62. I don't have a lot of time but I found this Jenny Packham pretty quickly and I absolutely love it. I am not a lover of sequins, glitter and glitz, dresses with all that all look the same to me. Also I think a lot of bling isn't quite the thing for a state banquet. So I think this dress fits the bill nicely. I think the flowers on it are orange, or an orangish red, and it's got white and blue, so it's a version of red, white and blue. So, perfect to honor the Dutch.

Also, I am not good with accessories! I think she can just wear the Lotus flower tiara and what does it matter what shoes? You can't see them under the dress anyway! As for jewels, I can't even begin to choose those.

  65. Well, this year I'll try to play with you lovely ladies!
I'd like to see Catherine again with the Jenny Packham blue gown she wore in India without the cape

And I will style it with this full parure worn many times by the queen

Hope I did well with the links Charlotte, thank you for all the fun!
