It's Sapphires, Regalia & the Lover's Knot Tiara for the State Banquet

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended tonight's glamorous State banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of the US State visit.

The white-tie event coincided with the Cambridges return to London following a week at their Norfolk country home, Anmer Hall. George and Charlotte were on a break from Thomas's Battersea and Willcocks Nursery. Speaking of the little ones, Kensington Palace confirmed Charlotte will join her big brother at Thomas's in September.

The Duchess entered the ballroom with United States Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin.

State visits are formal visits to the UK by heads of state from overseas, with the aim of strengthening Britain's relationships with other countries. There are usually two incoming State visits each year. Invitations are sent on the advice of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Tonight marks the Cambridges' fourth appearance at a State banquet. In 2015, they were very much involved in the Chinese State visit, and in 2017 they attend the Spanish State banquet; last October they attended in honour of the Dutch visit.

A video of the royal procession. According to reporters, the woman Kate shakes hands with is Louise Linton, the wife of Steven Mnuchin.

Yesterday marked sixty-six years since Her Majesty's coronation. During the Queen's reign there have been twelve US presidents, and she has met with every one of them apart from Lyndon Johnson. In addition Her Majesty met with Harry Truman before she became Queen and Herbert Hoover when he was a former president. Throughout her reign, the Queen has visited presidents in the US and welcomed them to Buckingham Palace for State visits. The State banquet is one of the most formal royal events on the calendar. Below HM entering with President Trump and Prince Charles with the First Lady.

Elegant white gowns took centre stage on the fashion front tonight. The Queen wore an evening gown with crystal centred daisies by Angela Kelly with her Burmese ruby and diamond tiara and accompanying ruby and diamond jewels. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a cream embroidered Bruce Oldfield gown with the diamond Boucheron tiara and a pearl and rose topaz choker. The First Lady sported a sleeveless ivory Dior gown with long gloves.

When it comes to State banquets, courtiers ensure the evening is a success thanks to months of meticulous planning.

According to the Royal family's website: "Preparations for a State banquet begin well over a year in advance, but the final build of the State banquet table starts around five days ahead of the arrival of the visiting Head of State. The operational arm of Buckingham Palace, the Master of the Household’s department take the main bulk of the responsibility for ensuring the Banquet runs according to plan."

Royal florists at work.

The completed table features stunning flower decorations, candelabra and six glasses per person -water, red and white wines, a dessert wine, port and a champagne toast. Nineteen stations are set up around the table, each manned by four staff - a page, footman, under butler and a wine butler - who use a traffic light system to co-ordinate the serving of courses. After the banqueting table is put together, and the decorative display is delivered, unpacked and positioned in place, the final touches are added. Below, the ballroom ahead of the arrival of 170 guests.

Before the evening, Kate and other royals would have received notes on where they were sitting. In order to avoid uncomfortable situations and to ensure all are included in conversation, one speaks to the person on the left for the first course, changing to the right for the second, and alternating for remaining courses.

In a rare insight into banquets, the Countess of Wessex recalled during an interview for the ITV documentary Our Queen at Ninety one occasion when she couldn't find her seat as the Queen was about to make her speech: "I shan't forget the look I got when I couldn't find my chair and she was looking to do her speech, I decided I might study the notes a little more carefully next time." Below, Sophie tonight. Ella Kay notes it appears her wedding tiara has been reshaped.

A closer look at Princess Anne's tiara.

During a speech the Queen spoke of the mutual beliefs of the UK and the US:

'Mr President, I am delighted to welcome you and Mrs Trump to Buckingham Palace this evening, just twelve months after our first meeting at Windsor Castle. Visits by American Presidents always remind us of the close and longstanding friendship between the United Kingdom and the United States, and I am so glad that we have another opportunity to demonstrate the immense importance that both our countries attach to our relationship.
In the coming days, you will see some of our most treasured historical buildings, speak to the business leaders whose expertise and innovation drive our economies, and meet members of our Armed Services, past and present. You will also travel to Portsmouth and Normandy to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.
On that day – and on many occasions since – the Armed Forces of both our countries fought side-by-side to defend our cherished values of liberty and democracy. Mr President, in your State of the Union Address this year, you paid tribute to some of the American heroes who risked their lives, and we owe an immeasurable debt to the British, American and Allied soldiers who began the liberation of Europe on 6th June 1944.
I paid my first State Visit to your country at the invitation of President Eisenhower. As Supreme Allied Commander, he had ultimate responsibility for the execution of the Normandy landings. In his headquarters in St James’s Square – not far from Buckingham Palace – British and American officers worked closely together to plan the freedom of a continent, and it would be no exaggeration to say that millions of lives depended on their common endeavour.
As we face the new challenges of the Twenty First Century, the anniversary of D-Day reminds us of all that our countries have achieved together. After the shared sacrifices of the Second World War, Britain and the United States worked with other allies to build an assembly of international institutions, to ensure that the horrors of conflict would never be repeated. While the world has changed, we are forever mindful of the original purpose of these structures: nations working together to safeguard a hard won peace.
Of course, it is not only our security which unites us; but our strong cultural links and shared heritage. Every year, there are almost four million visits by Americans to the United Kingdom, with a great number claiming British descent. And with your own Scottish ancestry, Mr President, you too have a particular connection to this country.
We are also bound by the strength and breadth of our economic ties, as the largest investors in each other’s economies. British companies in the United States employ over one million Americans, and the same is true vice versa.
Mr President, as we look to the future, I am confident that our common values and shared interests will continue to unite us. Tonight we celebrate an alliance that has helped to ensure the safety and prosperity of both our peoples for decades, and which I believe will endure for many years to come.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I invite you all to rise and drink a toast to President and Mrs Trump, to the continued friendship between our two nations, and to the health, prosperity and happiness of the people of the United States.'

The video below contains footage of the speeches.

Guests dined on steamed fillet of halibut with watercress mousse, asparagus spears and chervil sauce. Saddle of new season Windsor lamb with herb stuffing, spring vegetables and port sauce. Also strawberry sable, lemon verbena cream and assorted fresh fruits. Finally, coffee and petit fours were served. The wine list included sparkling wine from Windsor Great Park and 1990 Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

Emily Nash shared more on music for the event.

An overview.

The Duchess chose a bespoke Alexander McQueen ruffled gown with a v neckline and short sleeves for the evening. As noted earlier in the post, the royal ladies opted for white on the night. In fact, Her Majesty and the Duchess of Cornwall usually do for white-tie events. With the deep blue sash, the vibrant yellow of the Royal Family Order and jewels, a classic white gown is a very reliable choice for white-tie outings. I imagine we'll see Kate choosing white/cream shades increasingly moving forward.

It was a night of regal sparkle with the Duchess donning the Lover's Knot tiara. It has very much become Kate's signature piece in recent years. It's breathtaking and we'll likely see it throughout her life. When Kate becomes Princess of Wales I anticipate she will alternate it with several others. Until then, whilst we may see others like the Lotus Flower tiara, the Lover's Knot is clearly Kate's favourite.

A refresher on the history of the tiara: it was commissioned from Garrard in 1913/1914 by Queen Mary, Queen Consort of King George V, using jewels she already had in her possession. Mary wanted to have a tiara created based on the design of her maternal godmother Princess Augusta of Hesse's Duchess of Cambridge's 'Lover's Knot Tiara', whence comes the name. The original was a striking piece, and back then, lover's knot bows were very popular, so there were several similar ones made. The tiara features elements of the Gothic Revival style. The circle of the Cambridge Lover's Knot is made up of a lower semi-circular band, set with a row of brilliant cut diamonds. Where two adjacent arches meet, a pillar like structure is formed that rises up and ends in a round diamond, forming a diamond spike. There are nineteen diamond spikes of this nature and the size gradually decreases from the centre towards both ends.

In 1981, the day before Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer, Her Majesty gave her soon-to-be daughter-in-law a red leather box, and inside lay the tiara. According to various media outlets young Diana exclaimed, "I have Brenda's rocks", referring to a nickname the British press had given the Queen. The Cambridge Lover's Knot became her signature, however, the princess found it quite heavy and headache-inducing - reportedly the reason she wore her family's Spencer Tiara quite often. Following Charles and Diana's divorced in 1996 the tiara was returned to the Queen, and it was widely believed it would remain in the royal vaults unseen for years if not decades. Thankfully that was not the case, and it's been in Kate's rotation since 2015.

The Duchess wore the Queen's Royal Family Order. We will see it for each and every white-tie occasion Kate attends. The Order is awarded by the Sovereign of the United Kingdom to female members of the Royal family as they typically do not wear the commemorative medals men do. The order is a personal memento rather than a State decoration. The badge of the order consists of a portrait of the Sovereign set in diamonds, which is suspended from a ribbon. The ribbon of each Royal Family Order changes with each monarch. Her Majesty presented Kate with the Order in 2017; it's made of glass.

There was a notable addition to Kate's look tonight; her GCVO regalia.

At the Buckingham Palace garden party a fortnight ago, the Queen invested Kate with the Insignia of a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order. Like the Royal Family Order, the blue sash with red and white trim and the star of the order will be worn at white-tie occasions throughout Kate's life. As you can see, Kate wore an acorn brooch on her sash.

The RVO was established in 1896 by Queen Victoria. It recognises personal service to the monarch.

More on the history of the order: "Prior to the close of the 19th century, most general honours within the British Empire were bestowed by the sovereign on the advice of her British ministers, who sometimes forwarded advice from ministers of the Crown in the Dominions and colonies (appointments to the then most senior orders of chivalry, the Most Noble Order of the Garter and the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, had been made on ministerial advice since the 18th century and were not restored to the personal gift of the sovereign until 1946 and 1947, respectively. Queen Victoria thus established on 21 April 1896 the Royal Victorian Order as a junior and personal order of knighthood that allowed her to bestow directly to an empire-wide community honours for personal services. The organisation was founded a year preceding Victoria's Diamond Jubilee, so as to give the Queen time to complete a list of first inductees. The order's official day was made 20 June of each year, marking the anniversary of Queen Victoria's accession to the throne."

The Duchess complemented her sash and engagement ring with the Queen Mother's sapphire and diamond fringe earrings. Readers will recall the Duchess first wore them for the 100 Women in Hedge Funds gala in 2015.

The look was completed with a four strand pearl bracelet and a white clutch. Franck suggests the bracelet was worn by Princess Diana at a state dinner in the Netherlands in 1982. Click here to view a photo.

In other news, we have a number of calendar staples coming up and a day of engagements in Cumbria for the Cambridges next week.

8 June - We'll see the Cambridge family for Trooping the Colour. It's very possible Louis will make his first appearance, and perhaps we'll see George and Charlotte travel in the carriage?
11 June - The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will travel to Cumbria to celebrate the resilience and spirit of rural and farming communities in the region. The day will begin in Keswick where they will join a celebration with locals contributing to the community. After a walkabout in Market Square, the couple will visit a traditional fell sheep farm where they will get involved in sheep shearing.
17 June - We expect to see the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for Order of the Garter ceremonies at Windsor. It's understood it will be a very regal affair with Queen Letizia and Queen Maxima expected with their husbands.
18-22 June - It's very likely we'll see the Cambridges attend one day of Royal Ascot. The Duke of Cambridge Stakes is on Wednesday 19th.

There are several important D-Day 75 commemoration events taking place later this week. I imagine there's an embargoed appearance scheduled for William and Kate at one. The full list of events is available here.

Admin Note: A friendly reminder on the comment policy tonight. I understand this visit is an emotive one, fraught with controversy and divisiveness. In the hopes of keeping the comment section civil and focused on the Cambridges, I won't be publishing any political comments. Thank you for your understanding.

It appears she has thickened up her brows a bit? Thicker brows lend to a more youthful appearance. Thin brows the opposite.

    3. I agree that something is different. Perhaps her makeup has been done professionally tonight. It is really heavy and the conturing gives her face the appearance of being very tight in the photo in the car almost like a lift.

Very fun to see these earrings again! They are some of my favourite ones of hers. Maybe even my favourite!? Either way, wonderful to get a better look at them this time! I hope they become a frequent staple in the future! I also like that the pairing is not obvious with that tiara and will work well with her new sash!

  19. Wow, white fabric overload... the Queen, Camilla, Kate, and Melania! Still, they all look nice and Kate wearing white really sets off her new order well. I am, however, always keen to see Kate in her wedding tiara, just for the sake of variety, but I suppose that for such a big event as this, you bring out the bigger jewels. The Queen and Camilla basically always wear white to this. Probably because they have sashes and ribbons and things like that to coordinate with and having a white uniform for this makes the dressing much easier. Maybe Kate did this as well since it's the first time she wore a sash? :)

    2. Question on the sash. Queen and Princess Royal have wider sashes and on opposite shoulder than Camilla/Kate. Is there a significance to the sash placement & difference in sash for the "married in" royals?

Questions for those that know, I noticed that at the very end of the video after the anthems and speeches that the Queen didn't take a sip of champagne, or whatever was in her glass. Does she normally not do that? Is it protocol or is it just that at this point in her reign she doesn't do it anymore? Thanks in advance!

    1. You don't drink to yourself. If someone proposes a toast in your honour, you don't raise your glass or take a drink until everyone has taken a drink and put their glasses back down on the table. Taking a sip during your own toast would be similar to patting yourself on the back. President Trump was mistaken when he drank after the toast to him and the USA.

Not sure if it was a requirement for all the women to wear white too, but her gown combined with the tiara looks just so much like her look for the Diplomatic Reception in December. She is stunning no matter what she wears, but this silhouette and the lace remind me of so many of her gowns. Maybe they’re not meant to stand out. But this colour, silhouette and lace are well down the list of my fav of her gowns. I may be among the few who think she looks better in a colour, and not white. In any event, fun to see the sapphire earrings again, and of course her hair and make up are beautiful, as always. Just not a fan of the white, frilly gown.

I swear, when that music started I all but stood up - I would have, but I couldn't figure out if I needed to salute, put my right hand over my heart or to curtsey! Queen Elizabeth is one of a kind, I don't think there has ever been a better, more devoted Queen or King. I really admire her.

  52. Kate looks fabulous as usual. However, I sometimes think that Kate's day looks are a bit old for her and some of her evening looks are a bit young. This gown seems too frilly for such a formal event. I love seeing everyone all bejeweled!

A glamorous evening indeed!! I believe Kate is reading my comments (LOL) because let's count out the accessories - tiara (1), earrings (1), bracelet (1) = 3! Magic number for accessories. If she had also worn a necklace I would have fallen over. She looks so regal with the sash and RFO.

    5. It is called turning the table. The guests are seated alternating lady, then gentlemen. The lady, taking cues from the hostess turns to her left, forming pairs in conversation. Then when cued by the hostess in a later food course, the lady turns to the gentleman on her right, forming another pair in conversation. This happens around a planned seating arrangement. Guest lists were planned to orchestrate conversation as well as social advancement. It didn’t always go smoothly on Downton Abby and often elevated the plot!

They perform at events such as Investitures. You can find them on YouTube and they also have a Facebook page. I don't think they were initiated by Sophie, Countess of Wessex, but there must be some mutual respect there that they named the group after her.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Pineapples symbolize hospitality, who knew, right? So you see them on the table at most State Banquets. I think it also dates back to a time when pineapples was very exotic and strange looking, so you would put them out as a “party trick” to impress your guests.

      Delete
    2. Rebecca - Sweden4 June 2019 at 09:56

They are pineapples. I think in the late 1800s and/or early 1900s pineapples were really expensive and exotic and the rich fancy aristocrats all decorated with pineapples during their parties and dinners as a sign of their wealth. Appearantly BP still do that!

      Delete
    3. Pineapples are a symbol of hospitality(and wealth). In the US, many finials on gates, door knockers, bedposts, etc. are shaped like pineapples. A really interesting article from the US publication Southern Living appears at https://southernliving.com/culture/pineapple-hospitality.

Pineapples were brought to New England by whaler ships from the late 1700-1800s . It was a symbol of welcome and hospitality. If a family didn’t have one to welcome a guest, it was okay to borrow one. So in the Eastern USA , when we were colonies, you see a lot antique door knockers, cabinet carvings and table serving pieces with pineapple artwork. I have a welcome sign in my kitchen of a pineapple hand-stenciled by my sister. It was a gift when I moved into my first apartment (flat). A pineapple on the door often told the neighbors that the sailor was home , safe from months at sea.

  80. It use to be called "turning the table". You notice the quests are broken up into non-spouse couples. Not every one turns the same direction at the same time. The lady starts by engaging the man on her left through one or two courses as modelled or directed by the hostess. Then when its time, the lady (following the direction or leading of the hostess) turns to the gentleman on her right and makes pleasant conversation. This forms little couples engaged in conversation and formerly was one of the few times ladies were expected to speak to men not their father or spouse. This is meant to insure conversation and courtesy to all. It didn't always work on Downton Abby but that is the premise and model.

I don’t care for the chenille bedspread effect of Kate’s gown, though the neckline and silhouette suit her perfectly. White does show off the sashes and tiaras so well, as did her elegant up-do. Melania is elegant and statuesque, Camilla classic, the Queen regal and intricate, and Kate so very charming. I really love Kate's look tonight, youthful and regal. Lovely dress that suits her perfectly. And lovely earrings. I hope she gets the use of the Queen's mother sapphire broch one day, it would have been the perfect complement to the earrings and the sash. The accorn broch is nice, but it seems like is the only one she has.

  88. Kate looks so regal, I am not sure about the dress but it doesn’t matter, she just looks timeless and like a Princess. I feel Melania's dress is something you would wear to a Hollywood event, a proper gown is needed for a royal white tie evening and Kate looks the perfect. Sinead

  89. I thought all the women looked lovely - Mrs Trump was most elegant in all her outfits and I liked Ivanka's gown too. The queen looks fabulous in rubies - they suit her even if that tiara isn't a favourite of mine. Sophie is lovely in that colour and glad to see her wedding tiara has been improved. Anne also looked very nice.

But we are here to talk about Kate and I loved her gown especially in motion. I'm glad she chose not to wear a necklace - the fabric of the gown is quite elaborate and I think it looks better without the addition of extra jewels - although that simple diamond necklace she wore might have been nice. I don't mind the classic look of the gown - royals aren't fashionistas. For the same reason, I like the fact Kate stays with her simple coatdresses - if we look back - Diana did the same - often wearing the same shape in different fabrics.

  93. Except for Theresa May, all of the women were in white and I wondered if the US women were also advised on this color scheme so that no one person would stand out and steal the show or become the star. I also think I'm going to be the exception here and say that I thought Kate's dress was nothing special. My first thought was that she selected it so that her photos for this occasion would not become iconic. I really admire the queen for putting her best foot forward with anyone, under any circumstances. She is unfaltering. That must also extend to Harry, at least this time. I was wondering about the queen's choice of tiara and jewels because I don't recall seeing her wear these rubies.

I thought Catherine looked simply elegant. The dress was beautiful and she looked fabulous in motion. All of her regalia looked great against the simplicity of her dress. I think this look for her is what she will eventually be known for. She could have loaded herself up with jewels and many of us would have been thrilled but I think this simple, feminine elegance is when she feels the most comfortable. Great look for our Kate.

  95. Someone asked Who the blond woman was wearing the burgundy gown whom Kate stopped to talk to as she entered the dining room.
I think it may have been Zara Tindall.

  96. I find myself a bit neutral on Catherine's dress. It is lovely yet not show-stopping. Her makeup was beautifully done, she looked very fresh.

I have an opinion which I'm guessing will be wildly unpopular: I dislike the sashes and medals. I understand they are honors but to me they detract from the beauty of a woman's gown.

I thought Melania's gown was beautiful and I also thought Camilla looked lovely. I often think the tailoring of her dresses is so unflattering (especially day dresses) but this was well suited to her.

I didn't like Ivanka's dress at all! I guess I'm just not into couture. To me it looked like a shirt-dress which was wildly out of place at such a grand event. I've seen several people say they loved it, so apparently it WAS appropriate - I'm glad for that even if it wasn't my cup of tea.

    2. I also don’t like sashes, but I have to admit that Kate wearing a sash is completing the princess picture. It just gives a regal look that is impossible without it. So I won’t complain.

      Delete
    3. bristowmom, I thought Ivanka looked gorgeous but agree the dress was a bit of a miss for me. My first thought when I saw it was that it looked like a cowboy western shirt:). Something about the embellishments and as you said a bit of a shirt-dress look. It was clearly a very expensive dress out of a very rich fabric.

  97. Wow, what a night! I am struck by the grandeur and the beauty of it all! Kate is so beautiful and so very elegant. Loved her dress and think that silhouette works very well for her; the material just gave it a little twist. Her jewels were perfect and the addition of the sash, the brooch, and her royal orders just completed the regal look, so so very proud of her. She looked every bit the royal last night, and a future Queen. Loved the exchange between Kate and the Secretary of Treasury, they seemed genuinely engaged, he seemed charmed by her and Kate's stopping to acknowledge his wife is so very Kate! All the women were lovely, but do think that the First Lady looked exceptionally stunning. Whether white was planned or not by the ladies, I think the effect of it made it seem that much more regal and symbolic. Well done Britain! cc

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There are rules, but they come with the sash, different orders have different rules. Kate and Camilla was both wearing the Victorian order hence the same direction. The Queen, Charles and William was wearing Garter sashes which goes in the opposite direction.
When Kate and Camilla becomes Garter knights they will also wearing it the other way around.

  102. Just some more comments; I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of "royals" who attended. I wonder if that is usual? I think it affected the president (in a good way). Melania looked wonderful and polished and relaxed; good for her! She is tall and well built and generally looks good in everything she wears. Someone mentioned a blonde with a burgundy gown -- maybe that was Tiffany Trump? I saw that she had a burgundy gown on. Not very fond of Kate's dress but I think it is very hard to choose a great dress under these circumstances -- you want to look terrific but not dazzle, and you have to wear a lot of jewels and sashes and such. :) The Queen's rubies were amazing, and someone mentioned that maybe they were for the red, white, and blue of the US flag. I bet so. I thought the gift to the president was very thoughtful. I'd say william lucked out on getting to sit next to May! There is a lot of value in being a super-gracious host, and the RF did it well!! And I thought the white gown that Camilla wore this evening to the dinner hosted at the US Embassy was really really pretty, and Melania looked super in her red Dior.

Would Harry/Meghan have gone if she was not on maternity leave? Meaning, Anne's children and Andrew's children were not expected to go, so would H&M be expected to go because they are "working" royals? I'm also asking because that would mean a tiara for Meghan, and it would be interesting to see if she used the same as she married in or chose a different one. Kate sticks to just one, it seems, but that probably isn't a rule. Hopefully there will be another such opportunity soon.

Can't imagine having six glasses of wine, etc!

    1. I can answer some of your questions. All the working royals except H&M attended, 16 in total, which tie it with the Spanish state visit a couple of years ago.
The only recent State Banquet where there was a 100% attendance of working royals was the one for the Obamas in 2010 or 2011. (Neither W, H or K was working royals at that point so they did not attend)

But usually only 7 or 8 royals attend. So it was definitely more than usual. We also got better pictures of the minor royals which is also unusual.

It is difficult to speculate whether H&M would have attended if not for maternity leave. Harry has only ever attended 1 State Banquet - the Spanish one - and the fact that they are working royals doesn’t mean they will attend all state banquets, C&C have only attended about half of them over the last 10 years. Often it is only royals that have some link to the visitors or played a role in the rest of the visit that attend.
But since Meghan is from the US, my guess is that they would have attended.
When it comes to tiaras, Meghan would definitely wear one to State banquets. Since she doesn’t own a tiara it would depend on what HM makes available. The Brits are not big on sharing tiaras, each lady has access to one or two and nobody else wear them. Her wedding tiara was such a good match that I think it would be her signature piece and we might not see her wear anything else for years to come.
There should be another State visit in the autumn, hopefully we will see Meghan in a tiara then.

  103. Hello, everyone. My name is Delilah. I am a friend of Maggie, whom I think has posted on here before. I am so sorry to say that she has passed. I am not sure that she would have wanted me to post on here about this and honestly I don't really follow any royal families but she told me how much she had enjoyed posting on here so I thought that I would let you know. We had all knew for a while that this was coming, though it was unexpectedly more sudden and quicker than expected. But Maggie enjoyed a lot of traveling before dying, and she was happy. And ultimately what more can we ask for?

  104. It was exciting to see all the festivities, outfits, crowns, jewelry, sashes and pins. Kate looked lovely, but I did not see in any of the videos and pictures her shoes that she wore. Did anyone see and know? I think her clutch was the one she wore at the BAFTA in February and it is by Prada Satin Clutch with Stone Embellishment. 🌹

  107. Charlotte, thanks for all the history given on this post re what the Duchess of Cambridge is wearing (pins / sash / tiara, etc). Very interesting post and gives me an understanding to what I’ve seen worn by the Queen and other female Royals who represent her.
