Kate Celebrates the Commonwealth on Final Engagements Before Maternity Leave!

Ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting next month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out for two engagements celebrating the Commonwealth in London.

Kensington Palace confirmed today marks Kate's final engagements before her maternity leave.

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (April 16-20) is one of the most important events on the royal calendar this year. Leaders from all 53 member countries will gather in London and Windsor to reaffirm common values, address the shared global challenges faced and agree how to work to create a better future for all Commonwealth citizens, particularly young people. It will be the largest summit every held in Britain and the royal family will be out in force for a series of receptions, meetings, forums and a glittering state banquet at Buckingham Palace. The week will conclude on April 21 with a special birthday concert for the Queen celebrating her lifelong relationship with the Commonwealth.

Although the Duchess will be on maternity leave during the week, she has attended important events in the lead up, including the Commonwealth Fashion Exchange and the Commonwealth Day service.

The couple met schoolchildren before heading inside.

A sea of flags and terrific artwork on display.

Kate chatting with children.

William greets excited pupils.

They were both in great spirits.

William and Kate began the day at a SportsAid event at the Copper Box in the Olympic Park.

The visit comes less than a month before the 2018 Commonwealth Games get underway on the Gold Coast with hundreds of previous SportsAid recipients set to represent home nations across a wide range of sports.

SportsAid is the only national charity of its kind - helping young British sportsmen and women aspiring to be the country's next Olympic, Paralympic, Commonwealth and world champions. Every year SportsAid supports over 1,000 athletes - the vast majority aged 12-18 - by providing a financial award to help with training and competition costs. The charity also helps develop other vital skills for professional athletes, such as media training, nutritional advice and performance lifestyle guidance. Kate has been patron of the charity since 2013.

The royals watched a wheelchair basketball session and met the players, some of whom hope to compete in the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in which the sport will feature for the first time.

With a little support from Kate, Prince William has a go...

...and scores!

The couple posed for official photos.

Finally the Duke and Duchess participated in a Commonwealth Quiz in which athletes, coaches and supporters were questioned on their knowledge of the Commonwealth Games.

Next, The Duke and Duchess took part in preparations for a Commonwealth Big Lunch at St Luke's Community Centre.

An arrival video.

The centre provides services and activities for locals at the heart of the EC1 community, and has a range of facilities including a fully-equipped Cookery School, which runs community classes on healthy, home cooking and avoiding food waste.

On arrival William and Kate were given a briefing on the work of the community centre in the café.

Then it was time to get their aprons on!

The couple chatted about the menu and options on offer.

William and Kate took part in a recipe workshop and discussion in the kitchen with service users, who regularly discuss their favourite dishes and what inspires them to make them.

More from the Mail Online:

'William told staff in the kitchen that he enjoyed cooking, as did Kate. Asked what his favourite cuisine was, the prince said he ‘really loved curries’. ‘I love a lot of things, curries, really do love curries. I do like fish as well, I like Italian, pasta, and pizza, really love pizza. I don’t make it but the children do. I just eat.
Kate earlier told a community centre user, Yolanda from Bolivia, that their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, loved to make pizza. ‘I have done that with George and Charlotte, making pizza dough. They love that, don’t they? Because they can get their hands messy,’ she said, smiling.
The royal couple were asked to put garnishes on the dishes before they were taken out to members of the local community to dine on. Told he would help with a Malaysian dish, William said: ‘Not Durian Fruit [ a pungent Asian delicacy] is it? I fell for that one before, never again!
He was also asked if he spoke Spanish . ‘Un poquito [a little] ,’ he laughed,’but I’m not brave enough to try it here!’ Kate said she was a keen cook. ‘Yes, yes, I cook a lot,’ she told Sofia Larrincua-Craxton, the manager of the cookery school. '

William certainly looks like he knows his way around the kitchen :)

However, he joked "She knows, but I have no idea".

People all over the world are being encouraged to host a Commonwealth Big Lunch. More from the Palace: "Commonwealth Big Lunches are delivered in partnership with the Eden Project. They are simply about sharing food and bringing people together to celebrate what we have in common. From a couple of people in a back garden to hundreds in a community space, by hosting or attending a lunch you'll be joining millions of people across the Commonwealth in the official summit celebrations. We already have some exciting lunches confirmed; from a research ship off the coast of South Africa to a school of 30,000 pupils in India, we are aiming for a lunch in every Commonwealth country."

A short and sweet video from Simon Perry.

The Duchess looked stylish in a 'smart casual' ensemble today. Kate sported her much loved GOAT Redgrave coat. She first wore the piece in 2013 when she was expecting Prince George for a visit to Child Bereavement UK and again last November for an engagement with Family Action. She was also spotted wearing it last week for a tennis meeting at Kensington Palace.

The nude A lined shaped coat features side seam diagonal welt pockets. It's described as "classic and sophisticated". The piece remains available in several colours at GOAT and FarFetch.

Kate debuted a very pretty new top by Hobbs London. The Blue Rosie Top features a charming floral print - perfect for Spring! Offering an elegant boat neck, the piece has flattering three quarter-length sleeves with notch detailing. The top is on sale on the Hobbs UK website for £49 and Debenhams (reduced to £44). It retails on the Hobbs US website for £165. It's also available at Bloomingdales and Next.

The Rosie dress featuring the same print is available at Hobbs London and Bloomingdales.

It appears Kate teamed the look with her Stuart Weitzman Power pumps.

Kate carried her Mulberry Bayswater clutch.

Kate wore her Cartier Ballon Bleu watch.

And accessorised with her Annoushka pearls and Kiki McDonough hoops.

I very much enjoyed today's engagements. William and Kate make a great double act. It's an incredibly exciting time for them with just weeks to go until the arrival of Baby Cambridge. Unless there's a surprise Easter Sunday appearance, the next time we see Kate, she'll have a little prince or princess in her arms :)

We have a number of posts in the planning during Kate's maternity leave :)

I can't belive we're already reaching our 3rd Great Kate Wait!! Nice that todays engagements had a commonwealth connection since she'll probably miss the main events in London.

I like her look today very much. It seems very much Kates personal style and she looks comfortable and professional! I like the pants with the open coat. Very nice. I also think the open coat look was probably a better bet by now when I doubt most of her clothes close very well! And I'm also quite fond of the look with skinny pants and pumps. I know it's a divisive choice, but one I'm quite fond of :)

All around, a perfect note to end on both clothes and engagement wise. Now we wait! :D

    2. I felt we were getting a peek into Kate's at home/personal wardrobe & it was a treat. I bet she's worn these pants, top & probably the coat a lot during her day to day pregnancy wear! I'm wondering about the top? It's not official maternity? If not, I'm wondering if it's something that I've hunched about for a while. I have a hunch that some of these brands, per request, will produce some items for Kate that will be cut or adapted, to be worn during her pregnancy. Otherwise the original off the rack wouldn't fit her. But when this has occurred the items have fit great across the shoulders etc., while allowance & cut of fabric has allowed it to be worn with her expanding belly. Loved the look, Love Kate's delight in the day & Love seeing William with her for her last appearance before we see them outside the Lindo Wing! :D

    3. I agree Rebecca. This outfit is very modern and is worn by lots of pregnant women in my field of work (office with lots of meetings over the week). It is totally the look I would love to go for in my pregnancy. After the mint green Horror from last time she leaves the field with a big win for me.

  2. I'm really going to miss seeing Kate out and about! I'm so glad that she has felt well enough to carry out so many engagements of late, and wish her the very best as she settles in and prepares for Baby #3! Highly likely that the next time we see her she will be presenting to the world her new child on the steps outside the Lindo Wing! Cannot wait.

    1. Isn't it crazy how things have shifted this year? In past times we'd go long stretches without seeing Kate. Now that she & William have transitioned into their full time Royal Roles, we've been so spoiled! :) This wait will seem like an eternity, where as we've gone longer stretches in the past. lol :) We just are coming from a different place, going into this maternity leave. We are so much more used to not going very many days between seeing her, & even having some back to back days! This Great Kate Wait will seem Looooong! :) It will also be so interesting to see how much advance notice they give.... i.e. like how last time they posted no parking signs, which stirred the press to set up & camp out! :) I bet there'll be lots of live streaming like last time from the reporters while they wait. I really got into following Max Foster/CNN on Periscope last time. It was so fun to pop in & see what he had posted & to just watch what was going on outside etc. This time live streaming is so much more commonplace! I hope reporters do it again, it helps the wait go by faster & is more fun, for us & I think for them too! :D

  4. I must confess that I was a little sad when I heard that today would be Kate's last engagement as I have been enjoying seeing her out and about so often over the last few months, particularly with her increased involvement with various mental health intiatives. This pregnancy seems to have flown by so quickly and I really enjoyed watching her little belly grow. Although, I'm also really excited for the new arrival :)

Interesting to hear that William admitted that Kate is due "any minute now" as it would imply that Kate has worked closer to her due date this time around. I noticed on St. Patrick's day that her belly dropped quite a bit and now I am more convinced that the baby will arrive in the first half of April. This is just my opinion, I fully understand that every woman has a different pregnancy experience and I will gladly stand corrected :)

I haven't heard of any engagements announced for William after today either so I'm putting my money on the baby arriving before 17th of April... but we all know that babies are not exactly punctual :)

    1. I also thought William's phrasing was interesting. It might be nothing, but still. If Kate is due late April, I would expect more of a 'we're in the final weeks' rather than 'any day now'.

    2. SierrafromMontana22 March 2018 at 15:15

I couldn't agree more. I feel Kate has purposefully continued to work very close to her due date. I think it was planned by all - giving her more time in the summer months to continue her maternity leave (like with Charlotte) and to also let Harry and Meghan have the spotlight before the wedding. But just like you said Avee, I'll stand corrected! Now we have to let the Great Kate Wait begin. I know Charlotte mentioned in a previous post, that she has some great posts lined up to pass the time. :)

      Delete
    3. My thoughts exactly Katie C.H. The "any minute now" suggests a more imminent arrival rather than one that is not long to go (or something along those lines). Another reason I think that it could be sooner is because William doesn't have anything scheduled after today either, possibly to be with Kate. He is however expected to be present during the CHGM week so to me it looks like the next 3 weeks in between could be a possible arrival time for the baby :)

      Delete
    4. Avee & Katie, I agree with you both. I had to smile when I read about William's comment to Ringo Star. I fancied he was having a Fanning Out Moment & perhaps had been way more candid than he otherwise would have been with anyone else! lol :) But, we benefitted! :) I also agree that "any day now" wouldn't have been the wording used for an anticipated late April Baby. I've been in the camp that Baby#3 is to arrive early/possibly 1st week in April. So that's 2weeks+ away. Which means she's worked much closer to her due date than in the past. It also fit's into what we've observed, as we've watched her bloom & possibly drop these past few weeks. I'm wagering she's a good 37-38 weeks along. That's my final bet! :D

      Delete
    5. SierraFromMontana, you make a good point about Kate's maternity leave being in the run up to Harry and Meghan's wedding - another reason why I'm sure this will be an early April baby rather than a late one. And I am also looking forward to Charlotte's upcoming polls as well, it will be fun to pass the time by predicting names and gender :)

Becca USA, I also think that William had a total fan-boy moment with Ringo Starr and the words probably just escaped before he knew it. But how fun that William possibly gave us royal watchers a little hint-nudge-wink with that comment ;)

Let the great Kate wait begin :)

    6. I have loved seeing so much of Kate and really sad that this is her last engagement before baby #3. I thought Williams statement of any minute now was interesting as well . I do hope she has the baby sooner rather than later so she can have more time with her kids before the big wedding.
I know this is a long shot but do you think Kate will make an appearance at trooping the colour in June? I do hope so it would be amazing to see her and Meghan together at such a formal event

      Delete
    7. Anonymous 00:24, I do hope to see Kate at Trooping the Colour as well. If you remember 2015, Kate had Charlotte in May and made and appearance at Trooping the Colour in June but was absent for Garter Day etc. So hopefully we will see them both in June :)

I definitely think we’ll see Kate at Trooping. I feel that one is kind of mandatory. I do remember Kate looking very uncomfortable at that event after Charlotte was born. I don’t think she’ll attend any other spring events tho.

  5. Oh wow, flats and pants!! Kate is human after all and wearing something that we all might wear during the later stages of pregnancy. She has beautiful legs and clearly loves heels but I always cringe at what must be happening to her back and feet. She looks cute and happy. Best wishes to them for the coming birth.

When I was in London a couple months ago I popped into the Hobbs shop on Kensington High Street and picked out this dress for Kate! I loved it and thought that I could totally see her wearing it (although she's wearing the top version of it). I almost bought it - the dress - for myself but decided I don't need to spend money on a dress I don't need.

    2. Pam, I actually did buy a Hobbs dress last year in a designer outlet center in Kildare, Ireland. My rationale, the airlines lost one of my bags with most of my favorite clothes in it. Have been using that rationale for over a year now hahahaha. Cost me E60-00 and I wear it so much even back here in sunny hot (but air conditioned) Arizona. The print was similar to this but without any color, just black and white.

Going to miss Kate. Just think, like Laura said, the next time we see Kate she will be presenting baby #3 to the world on the steps of the Lindo wing.
Doesn’t it seem like just yesterday that we were waiting and waiting for Prince George to be born?

I love leggings and basic black heels and cream and black. She looked comfortable and happy.

The events were, of course, worthwhile. People seemed happy and genuinely glad to see William and Kate. A nice finish to a busy work schedule pre-delivery. William said she is due “anytime now”. I’m so excited. :) Prayers for a safe and healthy delivery. ❤️

  14. I’m usually anti-skinny jeans for engagements, but I don’t mind this pair. They must be a newer maternity pair, so they’re not as faded looking. Still would prefer a skinny dress pant, but these look ok. Love that she’s gotten so much wear out of this coat. She looks wonderful. Very beautiful and glowing Mama.

I'm glad Kate was able to attend another Commonwealth event before the maternity break - it's the sort of day of varied visits - the walkabout, the disabled basket ball, the quiz, the community centre visit for the Commonwealth Big Lunch scheme - that royals do so well.

Whatever the reasons, and we'll never know for sure - the increased work has made for a great spring and I hope it continues come autumn.

Not my favourite look - tight jeans, especially with heels never will be - but it looks like a lovely visit was had by all and Kate is so heavily pregnant, I'll give nothing more than the merest quibble - she looks happy and healthy, if indeed Baby Three is due any moment.

  20. Happy, enjoyable and exciting event and radiant, stylish Kate.It is beautiful end of her engagements before 3rd Royal Baby !But I will miss for pregnant, happy Kate...

  21. She loves her black skinnies so much she got a pair for late maternity stage haha! I dislike her other jeans, that they've become so worn and faded, but this pair looks almost like slacks and she seems comfortable. The coat is a nice repeat. I like it open.

It seemed like Kate was more openly affectionate with William today. I always like seeing that.

I think Kate must be due the earlier half of April rather than the latter half. She is much bigger this 3rd pregnancy, but I also really do think she's been working later into it. I'm really glad for that. She and William, both, have been true to stepping up their engagements. Kate looks a little tired today -- I don't blame her at all! I've not had kids, yet, but I can only imagine how it must feel to be so far along and still working. And in heels, too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't mind skinny jeans, but I don't understand why she seems reluctant to wear a nice pair of tailored trousers? A slim fit black trouser would have made this look so chic. Still, she looks great!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Maybe she just doesn’t like them? I know several people (including me) that are not fond of them for several reasons. In my case it is because I feel naked in them compared to the thicker fabric of jeans. And I am always concerned about underwear lines.
Looking around it feels like my generation (30) wears trousers in work surroundings if they have to, but definitely prefer jeans when it is acceptable. I am sure there are exceptions though.
Additionally, Kate‘s 20-30 years happened in a time when skinny jeans where THE way to wear pants. From my point of view she developed a distinctive style in that age period that she always comes back to/ still wears regularly in private. It is still a popular style and I love it when royal ladies show relaxed but chic styles that could be worn easily in normal life. Still love the more traditional outfits like coats and hats etc. but that is nothing I would wear (apart from a wedding).

      Delete
    2. I think it's simply personal preference. In her twenties (single days) Kate wore jeans OR it was skirts and dresses. For whatever reason she may have, she is being consistent.

      Delete
  23. I'm always a little sad when it's the final engagement before maternity leave. Now, the waiting!

How long does Kate usually take after the baby is born before returning to royal work? I can't remember how long she was gone with George or Charlotte. I wonder what her workload will be like once she comes back? It will be interesting to see. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to the other Commonwealth events and some H&M sightings at those, too.

Her time off & work after George's birth isn't going to help predict anything this time. William was still in the RAF/SAR and they were living in Wales, then moving. And even with Charlotte, William and Kate were not yet full time.

  27. I Absolutely treasure all the loving looks Kate gives to William. It's such a joy to watch them have such fun together. I also love hearing bits about how they love to cook as a family. Not only has Kate created such a stable home & family life for William (unlike anything he had experienced) but she sets such a good example of what a good marriage & family life can be, if you put the time & care in to nurture it! 29. This outfit is a thousand times nicer and more flattering than yesterday's! It's youthful, professional and spring-like. She ought to wear more coat-blouse-trouser/jean combinations, even in the heavy stages of pregnancy. They give her more of a professional and polished look. Then again, the Jenny Packham of yesterday definitely ranks as my least favourite outfit.

I guess I'm a bit like the countless children who are disappointed when the royals turn up not wearing crowns - I like to see members of the royal family looking different from us mere mortals, so I love seeing them in all their finery. Much as I like this outfit, to me, skinny jeans and a Hobbs top is how I expect someone called Helen H to be dressed, whereas the Jenny Packham outfit is how I love to see HRH The Duchess of Cambridge dressed. It just seems more 'royal' to me.

Having said all that, seeing her like this is definitely better than not seeing her at all for the next few weeks - aaaaaargh, withdrawal symptoms already!

    3. Ha! Helen you're cracking me up with your "aaaaargh'! Feel the same way! lol :)

I loved her look today - very much Kate's personal style and looking comfortable.
Ready for the wait. Speculating on the date - both George and Charlotte were born on a full moon. The April full moon falls on April 29 (and March 30), new moon is April 15.
Just wishing her and the baby all the best.

  31. Not a fan of tight pants and heels but Kate pulled it off in fine fashion. Love the cute top and coat - a nice 'working casual' look and quite fitting for a sports related event. To me, Kate looked a bit tired today. I think it's time for her to put her feet up. I'm still thinking mid-April before we see Baby Cambridge.

    1. See now, I have seen all sorts of wonderfully captured PDA moments between Will & Kate, going back to Their 1st Canada Tour, post Wedding! I have been confused about the statements that Will & Kate don't touch in public? It's simply not historically true. This buzz seemed to start after H&M's first walkabout. I can agree that they don't always hold hands (tho sometimes they do) & they don't have the same style of PDA as H&M, but W&K Definitely have a long history of touching & nudging one another playfully in public. In fact Kate often touches Will's knee & he has long had a hand or arm at her back. In fact I got a tad miffed at the press, when Kate touched Will's knee, when they were receiving that tv award??? Anyway, the press said it was PDA inspired by H&M. I thought don't stir the pot press. W&K have done this for years! As many can attest & all anyone has to do is start looking back at pics from the 1st Canada Tour & see what Will & Kate's Public PDA looks like.

I agree, Becca. It's not like Kate and William don't touch each other! They do, and I love the way they often look or smile at each other.
What a lovely day this was. I think we couldn't have wished for a better last pre-maternity engagement day! Looking forward to seeing the Cambridges again, whenever and wherever that may be, and wishing Kate all the best, especially a safe delivery and a speedy recovery.

I was there today at the Commonwealth Big Lunch at St Luke's Community Centre and was able to see them, wave back as they waved to the crowd and took some photos (which I'm happy to share). They are both as charming and warm in person as you would imagine. Although I was 25 feet away, I could see her dazzling smile - what a one-in-a-lifetime event!!! They both looked amazing in the 30 seconds I saw them before they went it.

  39. Kate looks absolutely fabulous today even with yesterdays blow out! She carries herself so well at this time in her pregnancy. The fact that she is very tall helps in her look of seeming smaller then she probably is. I really do think she is due sooner then we expect. In the planning of the date for H&M wedding I am sure the arrival of baby Cambridge was taken into consideration. I don't think Kate would want to miss this family affair for the world.

    2. Zora from Prague25 March 2018 at 18:27

AmyA, I don't think William really meant the due date was that close; I'd rather say he meant it COULD happen any time now which is what a pregnant woman usually gets to hear between her 36th and 40th week, or rather between 38th and 40th. My personal guess (pure speculation of course!) is somewhere around April 15. However, if the baby speeds up and arrives next week - I'll be only happy. 😊

This outfit is fine, IMO- jeans are a little tight in the knee, but mine probably are too haha. What really shines today is her adorable personality. Really, she is just fabulous today! Also love whenever she wears the kiki hoops with these pearl drops- my husband got me this same set for my wedding gift last year and I'm wearing mine today as well :) I'll miss her in the next few weeks but cannot wait to see this babe!

  42. I love this look on Kate, and I love when they do engagements together. Her look today is youthful, stylish, and spot on. It isn't easy looking great when one is so heavily pregnant, but she manages to pull it off. I love that she chose high heels with her skinny jeans. Thanks for a most excellent post, and now it's on to baby watch!

  43. I would have much preferred this look with a slim trouser and not jeans, but honestly, tbis late in pregnancy, she gets a pass. Wear whatever fits and is comfortable. Those last weeks (especially with two young children at home) are full of anticipation but also interminable.

She looks happy and relaxed and in her element. Their work this winter and spring really gave us a peek into the future King and Queen. Lovely.

  45. Love Kate's look today and am so glad that they're promoting the Commonwealth! Wills and Kate are an extraordinary couple. Does anyone know if Easter is always celebrated at Windsor? Also wondering what Kate's 'working day count' is so far this year. It's been such a treat to see her so often, and I know that she's taken a bit of a bashing in the past for having low numbers. Just curious...

  46. I checked KP Twitter. There was no mention of this being her last engagement/activity before birth. Is it just assumed or was there an official public announcement somewhere? 48. I am glad that Kate can finally take maternity leave and hopefully, get as much rest as she can before giving birth. Pregnancy really does make her glow, though I know suffering with HG for the first few months makes the process difficult for her in the beginning. I actually came across this link on HG yesterday, and it speaks to the genetics of it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p061xm52

On a different note, I always feel tremendous empathy and sympathy for Kate when she comes out from the Lindo Wing after each birth. It is a very brave and courageous thing to do...to present your baby to the world's media right after the grueling ordeal of birth. As any woman knows who has given birth, the last thing you want to do is appear in public and have to worry about clothing, hair, and makeup. Your hormones and emotions are on a rollercoaster, your body feels like it's just run a million marathons, and the only thing you want is to be with your baby, children, and spouse. You want sleep and rest. Though she handles it with grace, it must be so daunting to face cameras and a barrage of questions from strangers mere hours after one of the most difficult experiences a woman can have. It is such an intimate time Kate, William, and their children. I would certainly have understood if they chose not to follow the Lindo Wing precedent with any of the births, and it makes me all the more in awe of Kate (and Diana). William is so supportive of her and I'm sure he helps in whatever ways she needs. What I'm most excited about is seeing them together as a family of 5. I am sure Kate will take many pictures of her 3 children together. Here's hoping we get to see some of those. Babies are both miraculous and wonderful!

    4. Since George's birth, I have thought about that post-birth Lindo Wing press call a great deal and I desperately feel for Kate. I remember watching her on those steps very closely following Charlotte's birth, and sensing that she seemed so weary and overwhelmed. She looked to William for physical and emotional support in those few moments. I found myself talking to the television and asking William to not answer questions and to keep the outside appearance very brief. While I think the Lindo Wing appearance is a concession they make to the press, I wish for her sake and the sake of all the mothers giving birth at that hospital that another choice could be made. To have the press camped out at the wing for days on end must be very challenging for all involved. While the birth is certainly a celebratory event, that joy could still be shared through the release of a picture instead of a personal appearance. While I'm sure Kate would refuse to do the appearance if she felt she wasn't up to it, having to present yourself and your baby (to the world) hours after birth is still a daunting and uncomfortable experience. There are so many physical and emotional processes taking place right after birth, and just standing up and walking around can be exhausting and painful. As I said, Kate's courage to go through that public appearance after such a grueling and private experience is to be commended. She certainly has my empathy and compassion, as do all of the mother's giving birth in that hospital on the same day as Kate.

    5. Unfortunately, due to how few appearances W&K make with their children on UK soil..... I think it's become an important tradition or nod to the press if you like. Especially as these are the children of The Future King & Queen of England! The Future Royal Family! So while I agree Completely, about the insane amount of stress for Kate! I think it's a price they pay to be left alone & for having the UK photo embargo on the children! Tho, if Kate was not well or simply could not do it, I can see William doing it alone or with the children? I guess we'll find out this April! :)

    6. I hear everyone on the challenge of the Lindo appearance post delivery. She had time after George. But as I recall it was only hours after Charlotte. I assume that while we look upon this as a private event, it is not that long ago a royal birth had all manner of officials in the room to witness the delivery. Partly, I suppose to attest that no switch was perpetrated. I see the Lindo appearance as the vestige of that old custom.

Yes, all you want to do is sleep and rest and relax with your new baby but Kate has to do the whole hair and makeup routine for the waitIng public. Although I have to say I thought she looked more beautiful after George’s birth than after Charlotte’s. She looked quite natural, Her hair less styled, not as much makeup and her still swollen little tummy evident. With Charlotte it appeared she made more of an effort with hair and makeup and seemed to hold the baby so that the blanket covered her mid-section. I’ll bet if she made little effort at all and came out with only face washed and hair up in a ponytail she would look no less gorgeous, if not more.

    8. I have to admit i was very disppointed by the WAY she chose to step out of the lindo wing with Charlotte. Not saying she looked bad or anything of that kind, its simply the way.
Her appearence with George was much better handeled, but it appears that she was not so happy with it, considering the changes with Charlotte.

      Delete
    9. Making a public appearance within 24 hours after giving birth is surreal to me. And I applaud her for both occasions! It's also important to remember that Charlotte was born on May 2nd and George on July 22nd. If I recall correctly, they left the hospital with Charlotte on a breezy day and i can understand the desire to move it along and put the baby's best interest first.

      Delete
    10. 🌸 14:08. I think it was reported that she had commented to William there on the steps of the Lindo wing that she thought that Charlotte was getting chilly. You can watch her do that on the videos of that day. I, as ROYALFAN mentioned, think that’s why they expedited the photo call.
Plus, George is the firstborn, a future Prince of Wales and future king. That was why a more elaborate photo call. Plus they probably reviewed that photo call and made the improvements they wanted to make for the births of each of their future children.

  51. Sad that this is Kate's last engagement before the birth of her baby I shall miss her however I think that irrespective of the pregnancy she would have been away for the next 2 to 3 weeks as George finishes school for Easter next Tuesday returning on 17th April and so far both W & K have undertaken no engagements during school half terms or longer holidays the same as the Wessex's do.
Both Kate and William seemed to thoroughly enjoy today's more light hearted engagements they always seem to really enjoy each others company at these types of events. I very much hope Kate gives birth in the early part of April giving her more time to recover to enjoy H & M wedding but I think it will likely be between 15th and 20th reportedly George was several days late and we know exactly when Kate became ill when pregnant with George and the same when pregnant with no3.
When Kate returned in the Autumn after Charlottes birth she undertook quite a large number of engagements many of them with William on away days in Scotland and Wales and other joint events I very much hope they do the same again this year.

Wow, such a journey & it really puts perspective on what an incredible Couple they are! Their love has stood the test of time, I counted I think about 16yrs thus far? 53. Hi everyone!
Kate looks glowing today. I'm not too far behind and my feet don't even fit into most of my shoes , let alone heels! Haha
I just had a thought, does anyone think it at all likely that Kate will birth somewhere else rather than the Lindo wing this time? Firstly, she has been present in public much later in her pregnancy, and kensington palace have created a royal baby update website this time which is quite different to previous births. Lastly this baby is not an heir or a spare so I guess William and Kate have more room to have a bit more say/privacy over the Occassion.
I'm in Australia and there have been a few articles that are talking about these things even going as far as saying that it could be a planned home (palace?) birth.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    1. I think they will do a hospital birth, even if it's like last time, when she stayed home until the last possible moment & was only in for several hours, before leaving for home within the same 24hrs. It just gives the birth that added benefit of medical safety in a hospital. Often women have safe uneventful births & then a 3rd child needs an emergency c-section! You just never know & better safe than sorry. Especially if this is their last?...... I can see them want to keep the same tradition for all 3! But after last time, I think the ground has been laid that the Lindo Wing may just be a pit stop! lol No long laboring or overnight stay! :)

    2. Plus remember.... so many reports on these couples lately have been shown to be untrue! The reports that H wanted a Banana Wedding Cake & now we see it's lemon! Then the report that they were denied Frogmore for either of their receptions & here they are hosting the evening reception there! I forget what assertions have recently been debunked about W&K, but I know there have been a few! So I think it's just wait & see! :)

I think Catherine Quinn was a good hire, as I feel Kate had some good ideas regarding mental health & her other passions/charities, she just needed a more direct focus. CQ has been excellent at pulling everything together & pushing Kate in the right direction, collaborating with different organisations & I’ve noticed Kate’s increased confidence in public speaking. She looks like she is really enjoying her role & will go from strength to strength. 59. I have always wished Kate would leave off the white collar and unbutton that coat! It looks so nice open, with its big buttons visible. The jeans are so snug that I thiught they were leggings. I actually like this rendition better than with the black tights. That version makes me long for a skirt under the coat. This looks much more natural. I agree with Julia that this is a bit casual for my taste, and Kate also could have worn flats, but with the figured top, it is a nice look. I hope Kate will unbutton some of her other coats!

@Charlotte: The Duchess has a new Patronage. I don't know anymore how many and which patronages she has now. Could you maybe write an article with an overview? Maybe add since when she is a patron and how often she actual visits them? Maybe sorted in categories, arts/sports/mental health and so on.

I think it would show the progress in her work load and her interests really well.
