Kate's Maternity Repeats, Your Royal Baby Name Guesses & Exclusive Easter Black.co.uk Discount!

Hello, hello!

Seeing your guesses and choices for Baby Cambridge's name have been such fun, thank you all so much for participating. I absolutely love activities involving the engagement of the community here, and this one was one of the most enjoyable thus far. Here are your winning names, all splendid choices!

When it came to guessing the baby's gender it was a very close race with a majority of 54% guessing the royal baby will be a girl. We'll know the answer to that in the coming weeks! :)

************

Before we get started on our series looking at Kate's work and patronages (a big thank you to everyone who commented on the idea with feedback and suggestions) we're going to take a look at her maternity wardrobe. Tonight, we're looking through repeats which were debuted when Kate was expecting George and Charlotte and which made the cut again this time around. First, it's arguably one of Kate's favourite maternity coats: the GOAT Redgrave. She first wore the piece in 2013 - when she was expecting Prince George - for a visit to Child Bereavement UK, and again last November for an engagement with Family Action. Kate was also spotted wearing it last week for a tennis meeting at Kensington Palace, and chose it again for her final engagements before taking maternity leave.

For an 'Away Day' in Birmingham, Kate repeated the GOAT Washington Coat she debuted in New York in 2014. The heavy-weight, black crepe coat features a classic swing coat shape and contrast nude tabs on the cuff and back and decorative contrast enamel buttons. Kate switched up the styling from a dress and pumps to black jeans and pumps.

Most of us were pleased to see the return of Kate's much-loved DVF Zarita gown. Kate first wore the fitted gown with sheer lace detailing for the 2014 Royal Variety Performance when she was expecting Charlotte. The Anna Freud Centre gala dinner was the perfect occasion to give it another outing. Sparkling jewels made this a classic evening look for Kate.

Next, it's the Séraphine Marina Coat the Duchess wore for the Magic Mums Christmas party in North Kensington. I loved the coat when Kate first sported it in New York in 2014 and was delighted to see it make a second appearance. The striking purple hue, bouclé tweed and sparkling silver threads made this a perfect December coat.

William and Kate were first photographed in 2018 attending Sunday Service on the Sandringham estate with members of the Royal family. Kate brought back the Moloh Turpin coat she debuted on Christmas Day 2014 when she was expecting Princess Charlotte. The brown and cream check coat with flecks of orange was styled differently on its second wear - that time with the Lacorine Russian-style Sumac hat and a Chanel bag.

The Duchess wore her Séraphine Florrie Dress for an engagement with Place2Be in January. Kate debuted the piece in 2015 when she was expecting Charlotte during a visit to Stoke-on-Trent.

Also from Kate's New York 2014 wardrobe, the Tory Burch Bettina coat worn again for a surprise appearance at the Anna Freud conference.

And the pink Mulberry coat worn in New York was a vibrant choice for a lovely 'away day' in Coventry.

Kate launched Mentally Healthy Schools wearing the blue SportsMax coat she debuted when she was expecting Charlotte.

Kate brought back the gorgeous Séraphine Natasha Coat she first wore for maternal mental health engagements in January, when she was expecting Charlotte. On both occasions, Kate wore her Florrie dress underneath.

Kate wore her stylish 'Downton Coat' again for an engagement with Family Links earlier this month. The cream JoJo Maman Bebe piece made it's debut for a visit to the set of Downton Abbey in 2015 when Kate was expecting Princess Charlotte. It's a very elegant and versatile maternity coat.

For the Commonwealth Day service, Kate chose the navy Beulah London Chiara coat she first wore for a service of commemoration to mark the end of combat operations in Afghanistan at St Paul's Cathedral, when she was expecting Princess Charlotte. The Chiara trapeze coat was described: "This piece is cut in a fit-and-flare silhouette and makes layering easy and comfortable. Concealed buttons to keep the design clean and elegant."

The cards are printed and then embossed on highly-textured 280gsm paper, making for an intensely luxurious feel. The technique of embossing allows the cameos to stand out."

Emily Andrews reports Kate, George and Charlotte are spending the weekend in Bucklebury. She hasn't ruled out the possibility of church attendance with the Queen, but with Kate on maternity leave it would seem likely they'll stay with the Middletons.

Wishing you all a very Happy Easter!

  2. Kate's collection of coats make me want to drool. I love her coats and her maternity coats have been absolutely fabulous. I was particularly pleased to see so many of her coats being repeated, it's so difficult to have a favourite though.

I hope that Kate is enjoying her materniy leave. I wonder if the children are as excited as we are to meet their new sibling :)

  3. I doubt we will see Kate for Easter at Windsor but it would be lovely if we did.

No huge surprises with names - all very nice - but I do have a comment on one of the losers. Edith got the second fewest votes, but unlike the others (Princess Dorothy sounds like the Wizard of Oz) Edith does have a very ancient royal history. Edith was the daughter of Edward the Confessor and the only one of her siblings to survive the conquest - I believe. Her mother was Gytha - a Scandinavian princess but one with British links for anyone who has been to the wonderful church in Queen Camel (so named for a later queen.) A historian speculated that Edith might have been the person who commissioned he Bayeux Tapestry - reportedly soon coming for a visit.

Later, Edith, daughter of Malcolm of Scotland married Henry II - a link of the old Saxon and new Norman order - but she had to change her name to the more Norman Mathilda. So a Princess Edith would be an interesting and historic choice - albeit a most unlikely one.

As for the male loser, I believe it was Jacob - not a likely choice at the moment - along with Jeremy, Theresa and a few others tied to present political figures.

Charlotte, thank you so much for this post! Somehow, I didn't realise Kate wore so many repeats in this pregnancy - I mean I followed all the posts but only now when I see them together and with a view to the past, I can see that there were really quite a few of them.
Hope the Cambridges spend a beautiful, joyful Easter, and I wish the same to all readers of DKB!

I agree, and with Kate's brother being James, well, they would be honoring him rather than Kate's father. I'm very surprised it came in 2nd

    2. Who knows? But this would be a Prince James, if it were to be chosen. :)

  6. Great she recycled some clothes from her last pregnancy. My favourites are the DVF Zarita gown and the Seraphine Marina coat. Also the cream coat she wore on her last engagement...liked she paired it with a pair of trousers. Sadyl, we canˋt see what she is wearing off duty and in private life during this pregnancy.

  9. Fabulous Post Charlotte! So Fascinating! Love comparing how Kate looked in each outfit, during current & past pregnancies. Adding the months made it all so clear & it's interesting to compare how she looked in the same months when she was carrying Charlotte or Baby #3! Now I Really am excited to see how close our Baby Names were this go round? :) Love the info & coverage on Black.co.UK's sale & the additional discount! I was turned on to them by you & it's been a go to for me for gift giving (especially for my husband) & I usually add into my cart a few special things for me along the way!!:) I love their quality & it's just such a treat to receive & gift items from the UK! People are so surprised & I know they likely won't have the items. It's been a life saver for those "what do you get the person who has everything" situations? I often shop now at the various places you've informed us about, either by discounts, ads or the info from what Kate or Meghan has worn! :) So on Top of being The Crown Jewel of Blogs....... 10. Maybe the Kate, George, and Charlotte will attend church with the Middleton's on Sunday! I'm not named Hope for nothing! I know everyone likes their privacy, but I'd still like to see an occasional picture of Kate out and about shopping or lunching with a friend. No pictures seem to surfaces, maybe she is not able to go out like she used to due to security issues or the press is respecting W&K's privacy.

    Happy Easter to all!

    Hope from USA

    1. I think the same thing. I really want to see pictures of her walking the kids in Kensington Gardens. Just out and about. We never seem to get any photos. Do they go unrecognizable, or do people never snap photos?

    3. 🌸 Hope. lol What a beautiful name and it is an encouragement every time someone speaks it. :)

I want to see George and Charlotte also. It is amazing how we don’t see any casual photos of them on their daily outings. That’s a good thing though I think. They’ll have plenty of photos being taken of them in their lifetimes.

      Delete
    4. Beau, I think it has to do with the agreement they have with the press to not publish unauthorized photos of the kids out & about. Some paps have gotten pics that they sometimes sell to magazines in other countries to publish, but I think that has slowed down too. These are such dangerous times, that I think the press understands it's not the game it once was, especially where the little ones are concerned! Just my take on things.

      Delete
    5. Asked myself the same thing...do they never go out? Do they live closed behind palace walls? Do George & Charlotte have play dates?

Hope for the Cambridges they have a "normal" private life (as far as that is possible in their position) and its just the press that respects their privacy.

      Delete
    6. Upon reflection, my guess is that the nobility and aristocratic circles they run in (and they are extensive and tried and true) are the “core” “real” world of the Cambridges. I think they do a lot of play dates and socializing within these groups. And these groups are trustworthy and (very important) discreet. And secure.

    7. Maggie - Minneapolis31 March 2018 at 21:47

It'd be nice to get some pictures *from* the Cambridges of maybe the kids playing together or something. The most recent pictures they've released of George are from last September when he went to school. William has said kate takes pictures of the kids every day. Every day and they can't release a couple of them? Before when they were stingy with pics, ppl on blogs, social media, and also the press all complained or mentioned it. Now it's barely discussed. Honestly I think it's bc ppl have noticed less. Which means they care less too. The Cambridges wanted exactly this, but they may find soon enough that their strategy of having less public interest in their family isn't so great for them. George is a future king and a cute kid, which means public interest will nvr be higher in a more kindly way-ppl just want to coo over cute kids, and don't criticize nearly as often as when those kids grow up. So this is the best easiest time to generate goodwill and avoiding that is silly.

      Delete
    8. Maggie - Minneapolis31 March 2018 at 21:48

And I imagine the lack of pictures is a combination of the heavy constant legal action the Cambridges have taken in the past even against pictures taken of just kate without the kids in public places, or their threats against photographers like saying they will be banned from public engagements if they taken legal pics of just kate in public on a private basis.

      Delete
    9. I think George would benefit tremendously if his parents would start him on public outings on a very small scale. I got the impression that he is a shy boy, so he might need more time to find any comfort in being photographed and with larger crowds. But shielding him completly might bring more problems of adjustment. Or maybe not. Who knows. On the one hand I admire them for trying to shield the kids from the PR circus as long as possible but this might not be the wisest decision in the long run. Right now, it feels like they feel no need to start preparing George for a life as a former king, so I wonder if they secrely think he won't be. The other second/third/fourth in line children have been out in the limelight more when they were much younger. And the Spanish crown princess strikes me rather shy too. Only time will tell which approach is the better one.

  12. Gang, is it just me or have we not heard from Rebecca from Sweden for quite some time? I'm so used to seeing her right up at the top, most often the 1st Response to Any Post!! I'm going to go back & see when last she was here? I hope she is OK? Rebecca, if you are reading? We miss you!! :(
Hope you have a Happy Easter Dear Rebecca!

  13. Ok, I found that Rebecca from Sweden last posted March 22, for Kate's last engagement! Only 10 days, but it seemed like longer, I'm so used to having her words welcome us all to the comment section! I guess it hit me that she wasn't a part of the name & gender guessing etc. I think because I go back & forth between DKB & MAM, it makes it seem like she's missed a lot more posts than she has. So Rebecca, I hope all is well & that you have a Very Happy Easter & that we get to see your wonderful comments back up at the top of the leader board again soon! :) xo

  15. I wonder if K&W have upsticks and gone to Amner Hall for Easter? Or are they airing on the side of caution, and staying at KP, just incase, a dash to St Mary's Lindo Wing is needed :-), either way, I'm sure there'll be plenty of fun Easter egg hunts planned for George and Charlotte.
Thanks Charlotte for the post. With Kate only just starting her maternity leave, we'll need plenty of posts 're-visiting' all things Kate, just to keep us all going until she's back !

  16. I don’t think they will choose Philip as the first name. I hope they don’t choose Victoria or Alice, either.

I really love the first names: Adelaide (Addy), Caroline, Olivia, Grace for girls. For boys: John or Albert.

During the last two pregnancies, the palace held a briefing about hospital plans etc within days of Kate's last engagements. Isn't it weird that one hasn't happened this time. Is it not going to?

  18. Agree I do not think Philip as a first name but not Caroline either, no names as first name of any one currently alive.

  22. Thank your so much for this post. I really didn't realize how many repeats she had.
Now, what about a post about all her maternity coats and dresses from all three pregnancies with an info which one got repeated how often? (I mean if you have nothing better to do with your time- which you probably have. Could imagine that would be a lot of work.)
I am still on edge about how much she spend for maternity clothes when she didn't repeat most of it. Your post was a good way to convince me, it isn't as bad as I thought so maybe a more detailed one would help people like me.
