UPDATED: George & Charlotte Feature in Princess Eugenie's Wedding Portraits!

As newlyweds Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank enjoy the second day of their wedding celebrations at the Yorks' home, the Royal Lodge in Windsor, the couple selected four official photos from the day taken by British fashion and portrait photographer Alex Bramall in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle. Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined their fellow page boys and bridesmaids for images taken after the ceremony.

The Royal Family/Alex Bramall

The wedding marked one of only a few public occasions we've seen Prince Philip attend recently. There was much speculation as to whether or not he would attend. Not only was he by the Queen's side to support his granddaughter, he buried the hatchet and posed beside Sarah, Duchess of York for the official photos. Since Andrew and Sarah's divorce, it is well known Philip has been at pains to avoid his former daughter-in-law. Weddings bring people together, and yesterday the family was firmly focused on making the day special for Eugenie and Jack.

Below a closer look at the Cambirdge children. In the first photo, the children are all looking a bit tired (Mia Tindall's expression is priceless). The second photo features smiles all round; George is in excellent spirits and Charlotte looks cute as a button with her feet crossed.

In the third photo, the couple are pictured in the Scottish State Coach upon its return to Windsor Castle following the Carriage Procession.

And last but not least, a photo of the newlyweds taken at the Royal Lodge ahead of the evening reception offers a look at the bride in her second wedding dress. The blush silk gown was created by American designer Zac Posen, who was a guest at the wedding. Mr Posen was inspired by the beauty of Windsor and the surrounding countryside. The choice of colour reflects the blush of an English rose. Mr Posen also took inspiration from the White Rose of York. The pin-tucked plissé is cut on the bias and mixed with signature drapes. The White Rose of York is subtlety embroidered on both the shoulder and back which hold together the cape. The silk for the gown comes from Biddle Sawyer Silk. The timeless gown has a very 'Old Hollywood' feel to it.

Eugenie wore the emerald and diamond earrings from the ceremony; they were a gift from the groom and perfectly complemented the Greville Kokoshnik Tiara.

The sparkling tiara wasn't the only loan from Her Majesty. For her evening look, the Queen provided Eugenie with a hair slide belonging to Her Majesty. Queen Victoria’s Wheat-Ear Brooches were originally commissioned by William IV in 1830 for Queen Adelaide. They were passed down to Queen Victoria in 1837, and eventually to the Queen in 1952. Her Majesty has worn them as both hair slides and brooches.

Alex Bramall previously photographed Princess Eugenie for Harper’s Bazaar US in 2016. Eugenie chose the Erdem floral dress from the shoot for the engagement announcement. In 2014, he set up his own studio. Since that time his work has been published internationally in titles such as Vogue, Vogue Russia, Vanity Fair, Vanity Fair Spain and Mexico, Harper’s Bazaar US, Harper’s Bazaar UK and Porter Magazine. Mr Bramall said: "It is an honour and a privilege to be invited to photograph Princess Eugenie and Jack on this most special of days. I look forward with great excitement to capturing this significant occasion and wish them both a happy future together."

Harper's Bazaar

As mentioned earlier in the post, the second day of celebrations are continuing today. The Telegraph reports:

'The Princess, who is named after Victoria’s granddaughter, Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, insisted on a Victoriana theme for Saturday's festival-inspired second afternoon of celebrations, complete with Ferris wheel and coconut shy. Food trucks served everything from pulled pork sliders to Cornish fish and chips, rounded off with cup cakes, ice cream and candyfloss as guests partied from 2pm to 2am.
The family’s gardener described it as “one hell of a party”. Bloody Marys were served to help guests recover from the night before, where Robbie Williams gave an impromptu performance.'

In keeping with royal tradition, Eugenie's bouquet was placed on the Grave of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey. This is a tradition which was begun by HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother at her marriage to King George VI in memory of her brother Fergus who was killed in 1915 at the Battle of Loos during the First World War. The bouquet was designed by Patrice van Helden Oakes and comprises Lily of the Valley, Stephanotis pips, hints of baby blue thistles, white spray roses, trailing ivy and myrtle.

UPDATE: Princess Eugenie released an additional portrait, with a smiling Princess Charlotte adorably stealing the show, via her Instagram account. "Jack and I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making our day so special and for all the wonderful wishes as we start married life laughing together."

What do you think of the portraits?

  2. Charlotte, loved your comments! Isn’t Princess Charlotte a little lady? And little Mia cracks me up! :) Such lovely photos...great to see the DoE in fine form & with Fergie by his side. I didn’t notice till you mentioned it! The one of the happy couple in the carriage is my favourite. And Eugenie in that Zac Posen gown definitely reminds me of old Hollywood glamour; she really is stunning! I chuckled at the family gardener’s description of the party. Is it true that Fergie planned it for them?

  5. What wonderful photos of the lovely couple. I absolutely love the one in the coach, very magical, and fairytale like. They look so happy. Wishing them years of happiness together.

  6. I thought everyone looked spectacular. The weather, with the gale winds played havoc with most of the guests, was unfortunate. Loved the pictures of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, inside the chapel. The children were precious, and George and Charlotte just adorable. I thought Eugenie was so pretty. I only saw some clips that Charlotte posted, which I was grateful for, but from what I gleaned, it all looked just beautiful.

  7. It is a very happy looking couple and a stunning pride. The theme of green and blue coordinated around the tiara and the art work defines the wedding uniquely theirs. Best Wishes!

    3. Sophie's a sweetheart. When Kate's skirt was blown up by the wind, she stepped in front of her to cover her from view.

    4. Sophie looked amazing and she was an great wingwoman for Kate when there was a strong gust of wind. I said this in a previous post but her updo is gorgeous. She had another different stunning updo on her tour last week too. Wish her hairstylist could give Kate's hairstylist some tips.

  12. The portraits are lovely! Eugenie blew me away with her style choices- I think she looked so lovely. Her dress might be my favorite royal wedding dress ever! And all the details were there- the hair, tiara, and jewelry choices were just perfect. That second dress is AMAZING- the fit is absolutely impeccable. She looks so radiantly happy and absolutely stunning.

  13. The formal portraits are beautiful. I keep wanting to re-arrange the family picture a bit (move the bride and groom slightly to our right, in front of the panel, making more space for the groom's family), but I love the scattering of children. Mia Tindall looks as if she would rather be riding a horse - she certainly has the genes for it! Eugenie's evening gown is beautiful, very graceful. The bust line shadows needed to be corrected by photo shopping. Her party sounds amazing. But what is coconut shy?

    1. Riding a horse or maybe playing rugby : )

    2. Coconut Shy is a fairground game. Coconuts are balanced on poles and you throw things (balls, beanbags) at them to try and knock them off. Bit like the wind buffeting the guests.

The portraits are gorgeous! I don't know how I feel about the "second wedding dress". I love the colour and the fabric, but unsure about the bust part though, it is a bit much maybe? Something less "breast-plate like" might have looked nice, softer somehow.

    1. Zora from Prague14 October 2018 at 18:01

Exactly, RW. I didn't know how to put it but this is how I feel about it too and Julia (further down) seems to have a similar opinion.

      Delete
    2. I would have preferred something softer too but that's Zac Posen for you. I think there's always something harsh about his dresses. But that's a matter of personal taste, Eugenie does look fantastic and I wish we could see a picture of the brooches in her hair.

      Delete
    3. I think the bust issues are just the lighting and shadows. It's a dress fitted to her curves - there are bound to be shsadows when the light hits. I'll bet it wasn't nearly so obvious in real life.

      Delete
    4. I noticed the bust portion of the gown as well. Perhaps photos/lighting are less kind to it than seeing it in person?

My impression of the wedding gown was that it almost had a Victorian vibe to it. And the second gown is very sleek and modern. Perhaps this was the goal....

    5. Royal 👑 Watcher15 October 2018 at 07:29

Thank you ladies. I’m hoping the bust issues were lighting related!! The hair pieces/brooches were gorgeous.

  18. Both of Eugenie’s gowns were stunning to say the least! Her second gown is one of the most beautiful evening gowns I’ve ever seen. Her wedding gown was just perfect in every way. Best wishes to the happy couple for a lifetime of happiness!

  20. The portraits are nice and it was good to see Fergie and the Duke of Edinburgh in a photo, even though I never thought I’d ever see that happen! All the children are priceless, but I’m especially enjoying Mia Tindall’s expressions. The foot on the gown is bothersome though. I know children will be children, etc, but for the purposes of the photo, it messes with the composition, and also, it’s a shoe on the pretty train.

Thank you, Charlotte! The portraits are beautiful. I love the fact that Prince Philip was present, I'm sure it meant so much for Eugenie! I like her second dress a little less than the wedding one but she really is glowing, one can see how much they are in love and happy! The children are very cute, I love Charlotte's smile in the 2nd picture.
PS: The golden decorations on the walls in the group portrait reconciled me with Sarah's hat - the wings are less visible :)

  25. The loan of the wheat pieces is quite significant. They are part of the heirloom of the crown and not just privately owned by the Queen. This only shows that her majesty must be very happy with the match her granddaughter made and how fond she is of her.

I've never had occasions to "observe" her, but after the wedding, I wonder the same thing.

    2. I think it's because the York branch are very unpopular mainly due to Sarah and Andrew's antics, Eugenie isn't a "working" Royal so doesn't attend many engagements, she is curvy rather than skinny and has a slightly kooky dress sense so she hasn't always dressed in the most flattering way for her figure which the press have taken great pleasure in ridiculing her for.

I think it's a shame the way she and Beatrice are treated. They both seem like nice girls, have never done anything outrageous, they work, have patronages and do philanthropic work but it tends to be ignored so people can laugh about their dress sense. It would help if they were made working members of the Royal Family but for whatever reason (some say it is Prince Charles' refusal) they have not been allowed to become part or full time working Royals.

      Delete
    3. Sadly, the York sisters had their own encounters with the British press. I think they are really careful about how much they are in public.
Their teenage years must have been horrible and additionally there were all the articles about their parents. They fly a bit under the radar and I believe they are very happy about that and want it to stay that way. The last time there were all those articles about Bea‘s numerous holidays and then her break up. They will always be treated as the evil step sisters by the press so it is probably wise to be more invisible.

    4. She's just further down the pecking order. Granddaughter of the Monarch now, but eventually she'll be niece and then cousin of the Monarch - getting ever further from the throne. Her profile will decrease, not increase - just the way it is.

    5. To be honest, this is the best I remember ever seeing Eugenie look. Usually, her fashion choices have been a bit meh or odd, in my opinion. She looked amazing on her wedding day, though.

    6. Cath, agree, it has to do with numbers of people and how far away from the top spot you are, plus as time goes on, I think the general interest in the BRF just has declined.

  27. I love the photos - especially as they include one of my favourite royal portraits - those who know my love of spaniels (the much missed Surfer Girl especially) will guess which one. (Queen Charlotte by Gainsborough.)

That Savannah certainly is a cheeky little monkey - here with her foot on the beautiful train! The rest of the little ones look very weary! It's exhausting having to be so good so long no doubt!

I'm perhaps in the kennels with the spaniels (only metaphorically as they are generally found on our bed) because I'm not too keen on Eugenie's second dress. I liked Kate's and Meghan's much better. The concept as described is lovely but somehow the way the bodice looks doesn't seem right to me. But the use of the brooches is wonderful.

  30. Beautiful Wedding day for Princess Eugenie and Jack. Everyone looked fantastic. The Royal family was especially posh for this most happy event. Lovely photos throughout the day. I was completely impressed with Duchess Kate in her raspberry ensemble. Very smart. Her hair color had a bit of a burgundy hue which caught the sunlight. Lovely to see her sister Pippa there too. Didn't expect that so close to giving birth soon. Moreover, Pippa looked beautiful/radiant in her green ensemble, and of course in heels like Catherine when she was with child. Happy day for all.

  32. Nothing to do with the Duchess but I'll ask anyway - does anyone know what Lord Severn's duties as Special Attendant to Princess Eugenie consisted of? His sister's were clear enough, but he seemed not to have any particular responsibilities, after all. We see very little of him (he didn't even attend the Cambridges' wedding), and I'd been looking forward to seeing him in a more prominent role at this wedding.

I absolutely love it - the color, the fabric, the flow. I would love to see a video as I suspect the movement is lovely. I would also really love to see what the back looks like. I guess that explains why Zac Posen was at the wedding.

    1. Hello Erika,

I'm guessing it's more to do with half term at Thomas's Battersea. I think George is off from today until the 29th. William has been doing engagements this week and he and Kate hosted a reception at KP for the BBC Teen Heroes Awards. It's possible we'll see photos from that over the weekend when the Awards take place. I asked Richard Palmer about the luncheon/state banquet for the Dutch State Visit on the 23rd and he said, unless the Cambridges are out of the country, he thinks they'll be there. At present, there's no engagements announced for Kate. KP are announcing them with shorter notice though.

  52. Like others I thought that extra photo of Eugenie & Jack with the young bridesmaids was lovely it was a lovely wedding.
Regarding the unexpected reception that W & K held yesterday at KP for the teen awards I too am somewhat surprised that it was not announced beforehand.
However Hello have spoken to Sienna Costello one of the winners following the reception and she has told them how lovely W & K were with quite a lot of detail on her talk with them. Hello also mentioned that Kate was wearing a sort of burgandy dress with white spots. The article then went on to promote the teen awards and details of the presentation event on the 21st Oct. It will be intersting to see if they publish this in their magazine next week.
This week William has only done 2 engagemnts on Tuesday the reception yesterday with Kate and one today Kate did one inhouse on Tuesday and as far as I am aware there are as yet no announcements of any engagements for either W or K for next week possibly due to half term. I very much hope they attend the State Banquet and that Kate undertakes considerably more engagements some with William after half term. I do wonder whether the lack of engaements this week is because of H & M tour.
