Kate in Raspberry Pink McQueen Dress & George and Charlotte in Starring Role for Princess Eugenie & Jack Brooksbank's Windsor Wedding!

It was a blustery autumn morning in Windsor for Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank's wedding.

The Duke and Duchess joined 850 guests at St George's Chapel this morning, including a host of well-known faces such as Demi Moore, Stephen Fry, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss.

An arrival video of  the Cambridges and Sussexes.

A lovely photo of the Duchess.

Less than five months after Harry and Meghan's wedding, George and Charlotte once again returned to Windsor for page boy and bridesmaid duties. These two could do this in their sleep by now!

As always, plenty of adorable waves from Princess Charlotte.

They joined a very royal bridal party, including Savannah and Isla Phillips, Mia Tindall, Maud Windsor (daughter of Freddie and Sophie Windsor who attends Thomas's Battersea with George), Robbie William's daughter Theodora, and Louis de Givenchy. The Earl and Countess of Wessex's children Louise and James were special attendants. Nanny Maria was on hand to help organise the children after they arrived.

The bridal party arriving.

The floral displays were created by Rob van Helder using foliage and flowering branches, sourced locally from Windsor Great Park, combined with roses, spray roses, hydrangeas, dahlias and berries. The designs reflected the rich and vibrant tones of autumn and also included Liquidambar trees. The floral designer said: "It has been the greatest privilege and honour to create the flowers for Princess Eugenie and Jack, on their Wedding day. Her Royal Highness has been very involved from the start and has been instrumental in the autumnal theme."

Pippa Matthews, who is due her first baby later this month, was also in attendance.

Maid of honour Princess Beatrice wearing Ralph and Russo, and mother of the bride Sarah, Duchess of York, who carried the same purse her late mother wore for her wedding to Prince Andrew.

George and Savannah enjoying a spot of fun.

Her Majesty and Prince Philip were in great spirits.

The Royal family enjoyed chatting as they awaited the bride's arrival.

William and Kate were spotted holding hands.

The bride travelled to St George's Chapel with Prince Andrew in a 1977 Rolls Royce Phantom VI.

It's the same car Kate and Michael Middleton travelled in to Westminster Abbey from the Goring in 2011.

Eugenie smiled and waved as she turned to face the cameras.

The scene outside St George's Chapel.

Eugenie and Jack have been together for over seven years. The pair announced their engagement in January, choosing Windsor as the venue because it's been a place Eugenie spent much of her childhood. Jack works as a brand ambassador for George's Clooney's tequila company Casamigos, which the actor recently sold to Diageo.

During a pre-wedding interview aired this morning, the groom described Eugenie as a "bright, shining light". Eugenie, who recalled meeting him on a Swiss skiing trip said it was "love at first sight", adding: "I thought, 'what a silly hat!' and I thought, 'who’s that?' and then you came over and shook my hand and I was all butterflies and nervous. I think I rang my mum that night and said 'I’ve met this guy Jack'...and that was it I think about how it started. Jack’s the kind of guy, you know when you’re lost at a party and you can’t find anyone to talk to, and you start panicking and you need help? He’ll walk in and make everyone feel so special."

The order of service can be viewed here. The Palace said: "The Service is from the 1928 Prayer Book Service. Princess Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank have taken great care and interest in bringing together the content of their service, working closely with the Dean of Windsor and all others involved."

Guests enjoyed performances by Andrea Boccelli.

Princess Beatrice gave a reading from The Great Gatsby.

Eugenie read the F. Scott Fitzgerald literary masterpiece shortly after meeting Jack and said the passage where Nick describes Jay Gatsby's smile "immediately reminded" her of Jack.

During his address, the Dean of Windsor said: "Of course we know that the very best of desires and intentions can be frustrated, and that marriages, even between the kindest and most careful people, can founder because of pressures unforeseen. The miracle however is that, in generation after generation, so many of us go on hoping that the keeping of the promise will be possible.  It is as if we know that it is in the exchange of self-forgetful love that we human beings understand, you might say, just what we were made for. It is with that hope in their hearts that these two people have come here today, and have made their unqualified promises "in the face of this congregation"; their families and friends and neighbours. In doing so, they have of course revealed the seriousness of their intent, but also something more.  They have acknowledged their need of your support and your encouragement; they want you to believe in them. By being here today, you have given them a kind of "reassurance" for which, I know, they will be genuinely grateful."

Eugenie's wedding band was created from gold gifted by the Queen.

A kiss for the newlyweds.

Afterwards, the newlyweds travelled in the Scottish State Carriage for a short procession.

An overview.

The Royal family departing.

Princess Eugenie was a beautiful bride in a bespoke gown designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, who founded the British-based label Peter Pilotto, in London in 2007. The brand is known for its innovative textile design, paired with a modern feminine silhouette. Eugenie and the designers worked closely together on the creation of the dress. The designers undertook archive research into previous dresses worn by members of the Royal family and identified a perfect silhouette.

During several fittings the dress was developed layer by layer, constructing it from the corset and the complex underskirt to the fitted bodice and full pleated skirt. The dress features a neckline that folds around the shoulders to a low back that drapes into a flowing full-length train.

The low back feature on the dress was at the specific request of Princess Eugenie, who had surgery aged 12 to correct scoliosis. She has been widely praised for choosing to show her scars on her big day.

More from the Palace:

'The fabric was designed by Mr Pilotto and Mr De Vos at their studio in East London and includes a number of symbols that are meaningful to Princess Eugenie as motifs. The symbols are a Thistle for Scotland acknowledging the couple's fondness for Balmoral, a Shamrock for Ireland as a nod to the Bride's Ferguson family, the York Rose and ivy representing the couple's home.
Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos have reinterpreted these symbols in a garland of rope like motifs, woven into a jacquard of silk, cotton and viscose blend. Once the artwork was completed, it was translated into a jacquard weave in the Como region of Italy. The result is a very modern looking fabric using a highly intricate weaving technique.'

The Queen loaned her granddaughter a beautiful tiara for the day - the Queen Mother's Greville Kokoshnik Tiara. The tiara was made by Boucheron for Mrs Greville in 1919 in the fashionable ‘kokoshnik’ style popularised in the Russian Imperial Court. The tiara is made of brilliant and rose cut diamonds pavé set in platinum, with six emeralds on either side. The tiara was bequeathed by Mrs Greville to Queen Elizabeth in 1942. Eugenie's emerald and diamond earrings were a gift from the groom.

The Wedding bouquet, created by floral designer Rob van Helden's sister, Patrice van Helden Oakes, consists of Lily of the Valley, Stephanotis pips, hints of baby blue thistles, white spray roses and trailing ivy. Sprigs of myrtle from Osbourne House are also included in the bouquet. The tradition of carrying myrtle began after Queen Victoria was given a nosegay containing myrtle by Prince Albert’s grandmother during a visit to Gotha in Germany. In the same year, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert bought Osborne House as a family retreat, and a sprig from the posy was planted against the terrace walls, where it continues to thrive today. The myrtle was first carried by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter, Princess Victoria, when she married in 1858.

The bridesmaids' dresses and pageboys' uniforms by Amaia Arrieta of Amaia Kids.

The design incorporates artwork by American abstract artist Mark Bradford and was included in the order of service.

Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s Wedding Cake, a red velvet and chocolate cake designed by London-based baker Sophie Cabot, was inspired by the rich colours of autumn.

The Duchess selected a raspberry pink bespoke Alexander McQueen dress for the wedding. The long-sleeved dress features ruching at the neckline and waist and a paperbag skirt.

The style and silhouette encompassed elements from Kate's bespoke Trooping the Colour looks in both 2017 and 2018. We see the same neckline and paperbag skirt in the soft pink style the Duchess wore, and the defined shoulders from this year's Trooping look also served as inspiration for this look.

Kate's hat is by milliner Philip Treacy.

A closer look.

The Duchess accessorised with the Queen's Diamond Pendant earrings.

The Duchess completed the look with a new pair of Prada velvet pumps. The $630 pair are described: "For its Fall-Winter 2017 collection, Prada puts velvet at the forefront with the design of these burgundy velvet pumps. These pointy-toed, stiletto-heeled shoes will effortlessly add a feminine touch to daytime outfits."

Wishing Jack and Eugenie a lifetime of happiness!

Guests will now enjoy a reception at the Yorks' home, the Royal Lodge. Celebrations are expected to continue tomorrow. We can expect to see official photos released over the next several days.

  7. I'm watching from SA and just saw William and Kate arrive. Kate's dress looks stunning and reminds me very much of the bubblegum pink outfit she wore for Trooping the Colour in 2017... at least the neckline does :)

Also, really loving Demi Moore's outfit, especially since she's carrying the "Demi" bag in burgundy like the one Meghan recently used in green. Can't wait to see HD pics of everyone else :)

    Love Avee in SA

    1. Eugenie is beautiful and that tiara, wow. The news reported that Eugenie did not wear a veil and chose a low back cut gown to show her scar. Apparently she had surgery at twelve for scoliosis and she wanted to show her scar as a sort of badge to show her support.
Also she invited a young dancer who also had the surgery to attend the wedding, along with the surgeon who did the surgery. She is a patron of the hospital. Actually when I heard that and saw her in the gown, I admired her for that decision. She is absolutely beautiful and quite a natural beauty!! cc

    2. Eugenie has been active in promoting awareness of scoliosis also for many years.

I thought the dress suited her very nicely. And personally I liked that she didn't wear a veil.

    1. The tiara was made for society lady Margaret Greville in 1921 and she left it to the Queen when she died in 1942. It has never been worn by the BRF before.

      Delete
    2. I believe she was Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother's aunt. I had always wondered why some society lady would bequeath her jewels to the QM. I was so surprised and happy to see it. It suited Eugenie perfectly. I thought Camilla might have gained possession of it, along with another Greville tiara that she frequently wears.

      Delete
    3. Not Aunt. Her father was owner of a large Scottish brewery, however. She cultivated the royals. Her husband was a friend of Edward VII when he was the Prince of Wales. She was best friends with Alice Keppel, the POW's favorite mistress, and the POW had a suite in their home. Sonia Keppel, Camilla's grandmother and Alice's daughter, was also beneficiary of Margaret Greville's but all the important jewelry went to Queen Elizabeth, the QM. That information adds to understanding of why Camilla may wear the Greville Boucheron tiara as a favorite.

  17. Why is she wearing a vibrant colour for a wedding? Plus it looks like the same design as usual from AM. I gave up guessing.

The bride is fab. Those jewels are smashing.

    1. Because it was a wedding full of autumn colors. Same design so that it wouldn't grab too much attention.

      Delete
    2. The wedding was inspired by a modern painting called “Here” which was featured in the order of service and has bright primary colours. The painting was reproduced in the sashes worn by the pageboys and bridesmaids. I suspect Kate wanted to honour that by choosing a bright colour as did many of the royal wedding guests.

      Delete
    3. Vibrant colours are rather traditional for weddings, and jewel tones work so well for autumn.

    4. Lots of guest wore jewel tones and the colour Kate chose is perfect for autumn.

  23. Love the rich jewel tones. In my opinion they suit Kate much better than those light blue or lavender pastels. This was a solid appearance on the fashion front.

Bea‘s look is fantastic. I am not the biggest fan of the design on the fabric but the cut and her hair and make up are so vintage princessy. Almost pre-raphaelite. I wonder how her hair stylist ensured that her hair stayed perfectly in place but looked rather flowy and loose at the same time with all this wind and the weight of the tiara. Also forgot what a warm and calm voice she has- a bid deeper and frisky- very attractive in my opinion.
Also loved the music choices and the traditional wedding ceremony.

  26. I absolutely love the Duchess's dress! Duchess Kate has become this regal, refined woman and I both love and admire it! It is rare these days to see someone the Duchess's age be both appropriate and mindful of their position. Bravo Kate!

As for Eugenie, I like her entire bridal look, with the exception of the cleavage. If the dress had been a little higher up in the chest area, this would have been a home run for me. But be that as it may, she is a beautiful bride! Congratulations! Also, I thought the entire wedding party, was just spot on! People brought thei A game!

  27. Just watched the wedding. A few thoughts:

Loveeee her dress, hair, tiara, makeup and earrings!

Poor jack looked so nervous for a while there and I saw
Eugenie give him a few looks as if to say are you okay! Poor guy, must be so nerve wrecking not just to get married but share this moment with royalty and the world.

What an amazing curtesy eugenie did! So low, elegant, and in that dress and presumably heels! Wow wow

Kate looks bloody amazing as usual, I had my baby 6 weeks after her and I would kill to be in shape like she is. What a rockstar.

The kids were the cutest too. George and savannah being cheeky made my day.

And those flowers/ trees at the doorway were to die for! What a lovely autumn wedding.

  30. Fabulous wedding! I've got so many favourite bits:

    1. Eugenie's dress and tiara were stunning - she looked absolutely gorgeous on her big day.
    2. Apparently, according to Hello magazine, the clutch carried by the Duchess of York is vintage Manolo Blahnik and was carried by her own mother, Susan Barrantes, to the wedding of the Duke and Duchess in 1986. That brought a tear to my eye.
    3. I loved the way the first part of the ceremony was held before they passed through into the Quire, so the guests in the 'cheap seats' got to see part of the ceremony for once. Great, thoughtful touch.
    4. Princess Charlotte's adorable waving - sooooo cute!
    5. The use of the Scottish State Coach for the carriage ride. When it first pulled up at the steps I thought it was the long-lost Glass Coach that I've been longing to see back at Royal Weddings for such a long time. Close enough! Oodles of fairytale brownie points from me!
    6. Adored the colour of Kate's outfit - this is an even better shade on her than the Trooping the Colour version for me. (Still not a fan of the paperbag waist on it though!)

All in all, a really great day and well pitched I thought - not too grand that she might be accused of 'upstaging' Harry and Meghan, but grand enough to have the feel of a proper royal wedding. Can't wait to see the photos now. Congratulations to the happy couple.

    1. Agree with all your points, Helen. Lovely, lovely, lovely wedding. Everything was beautiful and meaningful. Gorgeous flowers! Gorgeous bride!! This may turn out to be my favorite royal wedding gown and it suited Eugenie so well. I do miss a veil which I think would have sent this look over the top but, really, who needs one with a stunning tiara like this. Agree with everyone saying it brought out the green in her eyes. I hope this couple lives happily ever after. They seem to be delightful people.

I agree with most of those favourites too. :) Don't really like that waist, but love the colour. And I really liked the hat today.

      The children were all wonderful!

And I loved the tiara. It looked wonderful with her hair and earrings and is simply beautiful. It needs to be worn more. What a shame if such beautiful things are hidden away somewhere. Or are they part of some collections which are shown to the public?

Forget sth. Loved the flowers and the cake. The autumn theme was brilliant.

And I loved that when they showed a car going the the Long Walk you could see ordinary people walking their dogs without leads on the lawns. It wasn't overly protected/closed off.

  31. Kate looks spectacular in jewel tones. I can’t tell if the dress is too large or just the wind rearranging it. The bride’s dress is perfect for her, but it looks horribly stiff and heavy. Don’t like the train. Messy bun!

  33. Oh my - this is the dress I wanted Kate or Meghan to wear though I daresay that it is absolutely made for Eugenie's feminine figure. This is absolutely breathtaking. With the tiara and the emeralds that set off her eyes perfectly I think this is one of the best royal looks I have seen in a while. Perfect ! She is one of the most naturally beautiful members of the royal family and she and Jack seem to have that calm warm love between them - simple and calming. You can't really sense any underlying currents of tension. Really wonderful to see.

Eugènie’s could not have fitted her best ! She is a curvy person and the dress is absolutely perfect to enhance that , while beeing very simple , just a lot of’ material flowing around and a nice décolleté , as French used to say at the the of the XIX century for such a woman : she has beautifull shoulders , not wanting’ to say exactly what curves where the nicest hahahahah
The way the material is draped at the back looks a bit awkward , but the result is good however, and showing her scoliosis scars is really a touching thought towards all those suffering from scoliosis .
I love the tiara , the design is very pure and the quantity of stones amazing ! And she borrowed Meghan’s Messy bun 😉
And the ear pendants have been very carefully chosen , well she is a very beautifull and glowing bride !

  37. I watched it this morning on TLC. I loved Eugenie's gown - especially the top and the back. And her hair looked fantastic. I also loved what the children were wearing...I prefer long pants on the boys. I did not like what Kate wore....it's a duplication of the pink McQueen she wore to Trooping the Colour a couple years back, isn't it? Many loved that dress but I did not. But I did love the color of the dress today.

    1. Same here, Pam. Was not a fan of Kate's dress at Trooping or here. Between the full skirt and the puffed sleeves, it's a dated design. Today's color is fantastic though and her hat is beautiful.

      Delete
    2. I think for me the problem I'm having with Kate over all is that she's duplicating too many things--here it's the dress. I think just having one of this particular AQ paper bag waist dress was enough. No doubt she loves it but duplicates run the risk of getting into "boring" (seen it before, just a different color--(ex: Alexander McQueen coat-dress in three colors; the Emilia Wickstead dresses in teal and pink, & the Catherine Walker coat-dresses in blue and red--and when there's a unique element to it, that really makes it stand out as having seen it before). Great color though. The hat will work with both the pink and raspberry dresses. She's pretty regardless of what she wears.

      Delete
    3. I have the same feeling about Kate's choice of dress. The color is great. But that's it. I cannot understand why she needs 3 different colors form almost the same dress. These days she seems to wear only this type of dresses. I wish she would start wearing something else. A few years ago, when she was still a new royal, she wore some really nice dresses. But now only these old fashioned ones. (Well, to me they often seem old fashioned and yes, boring.)

      Delete
    4. I agree with your observations. I hate too many duplications. The color of this dress suits her and is just right for the occasion, and the hat is really beautiful with the welcome twist to her hairstyle; however, the style of the dress is a bit dated and was never one I cared for. I was hoping she would wear that blue dress and hat she wore on her arrival in Canada with George and Charlotte in 2016. That's still one of my all-time favorites. The fit is perfect and would have worked for this wedding.
Eugenie looks lovely. The idea to abandon the veil and show her scar is modern. She made a strong statement about embracing and showing our "flaws" even at those perfect moments or on those important days in our lives.
Loved seeing Charlotte and George interacting with their cousins; Savannah and George seem to be inseparable, but Charlotte has an air of independence about her. I'm also glad Mia was finally included in a royal bridal party. Their cousin Maud has grown into a lovely little girl.

      Delete
    5. Oh yes, that blue dress was stylish and is a different fit to the dresses she seems to favor nowadays. Also that shade of blue suits Kate very much. So I really hope she'll start wearing different styles of dresses again.

      Delete
    6. I agree. I don't much like the "royal" looks she has been wearing lately to all the official events. Contrast the dated old fashioned look of today (complete with the grandma chignon) to the last two "normal engagement" looks with the long lustrous hair and the stylish dress/ pants she wore to the VA museum and for the engagement with the kids. She looked like a normal woman of her age who has good taste. I don't know who is advising her on clothes for these formal events like Trooping etc. but they are just in grandma territory as far as I am concerned. I think that Sophie seems to do a bit better and Meghan goes boring but at least she is chic. Meghan's looks are not interesting but at least they are not dated and don't make her look decades older.
And honestly when Kate takes these matronly clothes and duplicates them I just don't know what to say. The designers are making a killing off of her. I think she needs to lose Natasha and the hair lady and hire real professionals who know what they are doing. Kate is such a stunning woman - they don't do justice to her. At some point in twenty years she will be stylish, but that's because she will age into the looks she has got going on. She is a young person dressing like someone twenty years older.

      Delete
    7. In Diana's day, the Firm was less than pleased with the attention she received and the never-ending focus on her wardrobe. If you consider that Kate married an heir to the throne and followed Diana in the youth and popularity department, I think she deserves an A++ for the way she has conducted herself and avoided ruffling royal feathers. She is wise to avoid being seen as a clothes horse; her goal is not to entertain us with her fashion choices.

Besides, the Queen, too, is no stranger to having the same pieces in different colors and textures and likewise for the Queen Mother.

  39. A stunning classic wedding, Eugenie looked amazing and so in love, the whole feeling was one of genuine love and a happy family vibe. Thought the dress was very much in the vein of a young Queen Victoria and the hair and tiara complemented . The children were so well behaved , i noticed Nanny Maria in the background keeping things under control. Duchess of York looked great and Princess Beatrice a wow in royal blue.

    1. She made me think of a young Queen Victoria as well. I think it's the open neck and cinched in waist with the full skirt. Had it been Princess Beatrice in this gown and tiara, most people would have made that correlation, I think.

  40. How many girls dream of being a princess on their wedding day and here we have the real deal. With her beautiful dress and tiara as she dropped that gorgeous deep curtsy to her grandmother she looked simply stunning. Top marks also to both Kate and Meghan for stepping swiftly from the car to the chapel door so as not to take any focus from the bride - classy ladies.
The embroidery on Eugenie’s skirt reminded me of the Queens wedding dress. It would be interesting to have a more detailed look at the design.

  41. Eugenie looks magnificent. The dress suits her figure and while I was initially surprised that she wasn't wearing a veil, the dress didn't really need one. One observation regarding Princess Beatrice, though. I have never known a Maid of Honor to not accompany the bride down the aisle. Would this have something to do with her royal status?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Nothing to do with her royal status. I think they just defined the role differently to avoid the awkwardness of Sarah walking down the aisle and sitting with the royal family by herself.

  42. Princess Eugenie looked absolutly beautiful. There is only one public picture of the tiara and that is from the thirties. Queen Mum and the Queen never wore that tiara. I can't imagine why. This is a stunning piece and quite a choice for a wedding. Can you imagine what a ball she must have had trying on all these beautiful tiaras from the queen's vault before making up her mind?. One of my favourite is still the Strathmore Rose Tiara and I keep waiting for a bride to wear it. But it wouln't have been Eugenie's style. She just nailed it! Unbelievable!

Princess Eugenie looks beautiful! Everything she is wearing seems to reflect her lovely personality outward. The gown and color elements of the day are wonderfully refreshing. The tiara is both timeless and fresh! Congratulations to the happy couple and everyone who helped design the event. The royal family seemed happy and engaged during the ceremony. I am very impressed with Eugenie’s use of personal style elements woven through an historic, traditional British royal wedding. I am very happy for her that her special day made such a lovely, loving statement for all to see. Well done!

  49. Very fitting that the first British Princes marriage in over 40 years felt like a real British Royal Wedding. Some people tried to downplay this wedding as inferior to Harry's but to me it seemed so much more Royal and family orientated than the other wedding in May.

Eugenie was perfect and what a moving reason for the low back of her dress! Love that she wears her scars proudly! This is tied with Kate's and followed by Sarah Chatto and Princess Margaret as my favourite British Royal Family wedding dress ever. And that tiara! The Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara was a grand surprise and reminds us we can never overestimate just how deep the royal jewel vaults are.

Catherine's looked beautiful today. Her dress was a combination of her 2017 and 2018 Trooping the Colour dresses. Nothing too ostentatious as a wedding guest but the deep red colour made it interesting. I loved the colour and this is one of the best hats she has ever worn. She looks lovely in these types of blusher hats with the net down in the vintage style. Those sparkling earrings are an incredible long term loan and a pleasure to see every time.

    3. I adore Kate and will very rarely critique her- but if these are different pumps than the one's she wore earlier this week with the Erdem, I am going to majorly side eye that. How very wasteful that would be.

Other than that, she looked absolutely fabulous today. A wonderful color on her, and that hat is just divine.

      Delete
    4. Caroline in Montana12 October 2018 at 20:49

why would it be wasteful for her to have two different colored velvet shoes? I mean really.

      Delete
    5. Caroline I think what Cee Cee means is that she has two very verrrry similar new pairs of shoes in just a tad different shade that she wore within the same week. It may have been a more prudent choice to wear the same ones from earlier this week or another pair she owns already to avoid appearing wasteful just because they are so similar.

      Delete
    6. I don't see how it is wasteful. The Prada are A/W 17 so they are not new and the two pairs are different shades and heights. The Prada are lower so better for a wedding where she will spend the day on her feet and walking. The Choos have a higher heel so perfect for cocktails or reception like the V&A where she will wear them a few hours and not much walking.

      Delete
    7. I did little research last night on Kate’s pumps, I happen to love shoes and understand why she purchased a second pair. The Prada pumps are from the 2017 collection that are slightly a lighter burgundy, so that means she purchased them last year with a small clutch to match. I say when she purchased the new Erdem outfit the pumps she had didn’t go that well and need a darker velvet burgundy pumps, sho she purchased the Jimmy Choo 2018 burgundy velvet pumps with matching clutch. If you review all her outfits from back to 2010 she has enough outfits to wear both of these pumps again, but it must be in the fall or winter when come to wearing velvet. If you really review what Kate wears, she always wears something with a little more texture and design either in the outfit or shoes, such as lace, suede, velvet, pearls, makes the outfit more interesting. I hope this helps.

  51. Stunning, stunning, and stunning!!!! What a gorgeous wedding, congratulations to the happy couple! The wedding dress is sublime and Eugenie looks incredible. Kate's look is one of my all-time faves. So chic, so perfectly-proportioned for her tall, slim frame (ie-no heavy midi length, no ruffle!), and that hat - WOW. Kate's natural beauty just beams from beneath it. The hair, the earrings, it's all incredibly beautiful. Loved everyone's look except perhaps for lovely Meghan's...I thought it very boring and unflattering. Sarah Ferguson looked great, so did Bea, but omg did anyone else see that light blue PANTSUIT on one of the guests? I mean - it looked like a crazy clown onesie! Sometimes the brits wear incredibly outlandish clothes, it's shocking! But for the most part this wedding was impeccable - colorful, luxurious, but still down to earth in some ways. LOVED the flowers at the door.

  55. Glorious - I hardly knew what to expect but I loved every aspect of this wedding - Eugenie looked magnificent - so elegant, so regal - the gown so perfect for her, the designers such a great choice. It was right not to wear a veil - such a sophisticated choice.

I was certain the tiara would be interesting no matter what was chosen - I had thought the Strathmore because of the York connection or Sarah's tiara but this was flabbergasting - the appearance of the Greville emeralds offers such amazing possibilities in the future.

The material of the dress was gorgeous and appropriate. Kate looked lovely - even if the notorious Windsor wind was at its height and played a bit of havoc with her dress (and Pippa's hat and Meghan's hair) - jewel tones seem right for autumn and her wedding earrings were a beautiful choice. I actually had spied that hat - and hoped it might be a choice for some royal lady. In spite of the celebrity presence which I could have done without, it was such a lovely, traditional wedding and even the Gatsby reference which startled me when I first heard about it, worked out - it wouldn't have been my choice but the dean's explanation was very nice. The style - the beautiful flowers, the choice of music, all the details, has given me a new and enormous appreciation for Eugenie's taste - she did well.

Beatrice looked splendid - I couldn't imagine her wearing a bridesmaid dress and am glad she didn't - it's not traditional for older sisters. The little ones were precious and loved those sashes - such an interesting idea. Meghan looked nice and whilst I'm not crazy about uneven skirts, that green was good on Sarah and her hat was wonderful. Mum of the groom looked so very British. I particularly liked Sophie's dress. And most of all, I'm thrilled Philip made it - he looked very good. Just a divinely wonderful day and everyone so happy - as they should be. The joy was palpable.

    5. Julia, like Erika I've been missing you too ! Are you back for good or will you be posting sparingly? I agree on Eugenie's taste. Everything was planned very thoughtfully. From the flowers to the bride's look and children's clothes - all of it was tastefully done. I don't know whether she had help or not, but whoever designed it has extremely good taste.

      Delete
    6. That Gatsby reference rattled me to the rafters. It seemed to me like the minister took great pains to ‘spin’ such a comparison in the best possible light to ‘cover’ for Eugenie’s unfortunate choice of reading selection. They seem like a happy couple and I certainly hope they have a better future than the Gatsby reference would forebode. I’m completely baffled on that one.

      Delete
    7. Thank you Erika and Rosman - lovely to know I was missed and to read comments from both of you as well - we were on holiday in Spain when Kate returned and the Internet service was quite poor - then I did promise myself on my return that I would spend less time on royal matters and more on proper work - this wedding seems to have put paid to that for the moment!

I was much taken aback by the Gatsby choice too YellowRose. Somewhere, someone suggested it might have been better in a private setting such as one of the parties, where it would be less commented upon and I'm inclined to agree. The dean did do a credible job of explaining.

Susan - in the most traditional weddings, at least since I can remember, it's been customary to have children and perhaps a younger unmarried sister, like Pippa, or like Sarah at Charles and Diana's wedding, for attendants. Older sisters, especially when married, often play a role like Kate did at Pippa's but aren't bridesmaids. I'm not sure why they called Beatrice a maid of honour - it's an American term - but I'm thinking it was to indicate the closeness of the sisters.

An example is the weddings of Diana's sisters. For the first Lady Jane, Diana was still quite young and served as a bridesmaid. For the second, Lady Sarah, Diana was grown and was not a bridesmaid.

It is becoming more common to have adult friends as bridesmaids - I remember that at the Percy wedding (which sadly didn't work out as I recall) but I don't think it's quite reached royal circles as yet except in the case of Peter Phillips. Autumn is a Canadian which may explain that. (The dresses were not the best!) I had wondered if Meghan would have adult bridesmaids as she broke several other traditions but she didn't.

    3. I haven't read anything like that yet but that sounds terrible. She is still a child and as such, her clothes or blown-up skirt should never be a topic of discussion. The wind was really strong and she was holding on to the children's hands with both of hers. It's very sad, the last thing a teenage girl needs is the press shaming her and making her feel self-conscious.

    4. Francesca (Germany)12 October 2018 at 19:20

Totally agree with you. I haven't read those comments yet and I will try not to do so.

Firstly, she is still a very young lady. And you should never ever make those comments towards children/young adults. Isn't that covered by a law somehow that the press can't do that?

Secondly, even if it would have happened to an adult. It was very, very windy. She was focused on her task and holding hands of children. It could have happened to anyone and just shouldn't be shown or talked about. Where is the respect?

My heart broke for her when I saw that happen. I refuse to read any of the bullying comments about it. It was so windy, it could have happened to anyone! The fact that Lady Louise is young should make what happened even more off-limits for discussion amongst the press.

    7. What makes it worse, she really had no chance of holding onto her dress, she was in charge of the kids and they were falling over themselves on the steps in that strong wind. What was she suppose to do, let them fend for themselves? She seems such a lovely girl. I'm sure Sophie will be able to make her forget about it, even if the press never would.

      Delete
    8. I felt so bad for her. The wind was so strong and she didn't have a hand free as she was trying to prevent the children from from being blown over. I would be mortified if that happened to me even now but my 14 year old self would be completely devastated.

I will say I am very relieved with how our British pres have handled it. They have completely buried it. It has not been discussed at all, the pictures have not been reproduced and any footage has either been cut or they have changed the angle. The British press can be some of the nastiest in the world but on this occasion they did the decent and moral thing.

I haven't had a chance to watch the wedding yet (I recorded it on TLC), but I was able to see a clip of her getting out of the car and walking up the stairs with her father. What a precious moment! Did you all notice that Andrew tried to help her with the gown a couple of times? It was sweet and reminded me of my grandfather smoothing out my gown before the doors opened and he walked me down the aisle. *Tears* Those are the things the bride remembers forever...
From what I've seen, everyone looked lovely and the couple looked so enchanted with one another. I read that when Jack saw Eugenie coming down the aisle, he said "oh, my heart. Oh break my heart..." SWOON! SO sweet.

Eugenie is a gorgeous bride!!! That tiara, that dress, all worn so well. The love & tenderness between Jack & Eugenie is palpable. The royal family seemed to be in great spirits, too. I didn't see that really happen at Meghan & Harry's wedding, disappointingly...but this isn't about them so I digress.

Fergie, while I'm old enough to remember her past with the royal family, I've always thought to be endearing & down-to-earth. Seeing her HUGE sigh of relief caught on camera kills me! Mother of the bride is not for the faint of heart.

Beautiful choise of music. And the flower decoration was a fantastic mix of autumnal colours. Eugenie looked lovely though I thought the dress looked a little heavy at the back. The tiara was beautiful I wish one could see it again. The young flower girls and page boys were well behaved and appeared to enjoy themsleves Savannah & George were having a laugh & Charlotte and several others enjoyed waving to the crowds.
I thought Kate looked lovely I really liked the colour of her dress and the hat was one of the nicest I have seen her wear. Bag,shoes & earings were spot on to me making the whole ensemble one of her best. I always enjoy seeing W & K together at events.

  72. Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex looked lovely today. Both ladies desiring that no ‘special’ attention be given to them. Princess Eugenie was a beautiful bride and what a wonderful wedding. I agree, Prince George and Princess Charlotte could perform their wedding duties in their sleep, given consideration to how often they have been asked to be apart of a wedding party😊. What a lovely day for the newlyweds. Thanks, Charlotte.

  73. I loved Kate’s outfit when she stepped out into the wind. The color is lovely, it moves beautifully, and her hat and accessories are very pretty. But I dislike the paper bag waist and hope it has had its time in Kate’s wardrobe. My other favorite color was Princess Anne’s deep green. She was probably in on the secret of the emerald tiara. The Queen wore the heart shaped Cullinan diamond brooch, very sweet. So nice to see the whole royal family and the flock of tiny attendants. Both Meghan and Eugenie honored the transition at the entrance to the quire, in different ways. I wonder how much they conspired about their weddings, given the long unseen tiaras which are similar in style, and even the same hairstyles. Eugenie’s was another very beautiful and interesting wedding. The Scottish coach drawn by the Windsor greys, and the bagpipe music, made a lovely finale.

  74. I loved Kate’s look and loved Eugenies dress. Narrow second place to Kate’s wedding dress! Also I noticed the detailing on Eugenies dress with the floral is reminiscent of the Queens wedding dress!! Subtle but I thought about that

I thought so and then told myself it was just the lighting. I’m glad you also noticed !

  75. I loved Eugenie's dress and ADORED Kate's look. And I usually hate her pomp-and-circumstance type outfits. But the raspberry pink combined with the shoes with the adorable fascinator was an all around win. And yay, the clear, thin hose is back! I was really tired of the thick, clumpy, tan hose Kate's been favoring as of late. Lovely look for everyone. And can we talk about how great HM looked?

  76. Anyone notice Beatrice's bee brooch? I read that the bee (which was part of Sarah's coat of arms) became part of Beatrice's (her's has three--hence the bee-thrice pun) and the thistle is part of Eugenie's (also part of Sarah's) and the thistle was part of her bouquet.

  77. I am happy for the side chignon today. It is much more flattering than her standard chignon but seeing Catherine chatting with the Countess of Wessex in the pictures make me wish yet again she would say goodbye to Amanda as a hairstylist. Look at that stunning updo on Sophie! How is it Amanda can only do two types of updo on Kate's hair (side or low chignon) in all these years?

  78. Kate looks FABULOUS!!! She truly looks regal and like a future queen! I love this style of dress on her.

  79. I really enjoyed the wedding. I thought Eugenie looked so beautiful. I loved all of her choices for the dress, tiara, and earrings. I loved Kate's outfit, and her velvet shoes were so pretty too. Of course I also loved seeing George and Charlotte. There was one part where one of the other girls made a surprised face when trumpets started playing. It was really cute.

  80. I will admit I'm not the biggest fan of Eugenies dress, but my goodness does she and her new husband look happy! They're both simply beaming! It's wonderful to see. Kate couldn't have picked a better outfit, in my opinion! I'm a huge fan of Meghan's as well, but I think she has such an amazing figure she went a little frumpy with the huge coat. While I hope she is pregnant, I highly doubt it. We all know it's something they want in the near future, we just have to wait a bit!

Thank you for yet another great post, Charlotte!

I think the queen is probably the best dressed woman in the world. The colors they choose for her and the styles fit her so well.

I do not care for this McQueen dress. I didn't care for it in pink and I don't care for it now. Any outfit that has "paper bag" in it's title just is not my thing. I also can't stand this pair of the queen's earrings. For me, the white gold (or whatever metal they are set in) looks black behind it, as if the earrings were fake. Of all the jewelry Kate has, these are my least favorite.
I actually would have loved to see Kate in the dress Pippa was wearing.
Onto the positives about Kate's outfit today, I loved the raspberry color! It was beautiful and vibrant and cheerful. I also loved her hat!
I loved what Sophie was wearing. When I first saw her I thought she looked wonderful.
Savannah and George are total crack-ups to watch. I think Savannah knows just how to make her shy little cousin step outside of himself and really belly laugh. I bet she will be the cousin they all talk about growing up..."Remember that time Savannah...". I love seeing them and she dotes on George and Charlotte which is awfully cute!
Eugenie looked beautiful today and her groom seems like sunshine no matter what picture I see him in. A happy guy always smiling.

  82. From what I've seen so far (which is just Charlotte's post at this point), the whole event was just beautiful. Princess Eugenie chose well. I wish the new couple all the best!

George and Savannah make such great pals...they could be wonderful, unofficial ambassadors of the Royal family!

  83. Kate looks fresh and in great spirit! I like the raspberry color on her but not very fan of the style of the dress.

Eugenie looks stunning! I do like the combination of green and white: the tiara, bouquet and the dress. But what I most like from the wedding is the CAKE!!! GORGEOUS, unique in terms of type of the cake and colour theme in decoration.

Wish the bride and the groom a life-long happiness!

I have a big question: I noticed Charles was sitting alone at the wedding and then I saw Camilla was working today???? Why? Was she not invited to the wedding? I’m very confused.

Tammy, I read she was invited but had a prior engagement with a school (?). There are speculations about her negative relationship towards the Duchess of York who used to be close to Princess Diana. But who knows and I'm not really into gossip.

    2. She was invited, but had a prior commitment.

My translation: it was a diplomatic absence on her part.

I love Kate's look today, ultra chic and elegant. The children were beautiful, and all seemed to be in a delightful mood. A perfect day for a perfect wedding! Eugenie (finally learnt how to pronounce her name properly) was a dream, she is just gorgeous. The dress had so much thought put into it, and I loved how she showed off her scar. The tiara suited her really well I thought. I hope that Beatrice and Eugenie can find a place in Charles' scaled down monarchy, they were brought up to be princesses, not commoners. A few more engagements maybe? Time will tell. There has been much talk about the cost of security for this wedding, but I thought the whole thing was so lovely, and well worth it.

  86. What a lovely day, everyone brought their 'A' game ! I loved the raspberry colour of Kate's ensemble. I would have preferred a longer straighter skirt, she's tall enough to have carried that off.
Eugenie and Jack seem a lovely couple, and I wish them many many years of happiness.
Thank you Charlotte, for keeping us all updated on both blogs !

  87. Did anyone else notice Sophie Carter? I caught a glimpse as everyone was walking up the hill. She was wearing one of her interesting vintage frocks with big violet dots! I loved it.

  88. I thought the back of the skirt with the train and the way the pleats move in the front were rather reminiscent of Catherine's wedding dress.

  89. Beautiful Bride; gorgeous dress and lovely service. The music was sublime--perhaps I felt that because I had both "Ave Maria" and "Panis Angelicus" at my wedding nearly 55 years ago.
The little child attendants were so sweet.
The Cambridge's Nanny seems to appear at all the weddings to keep the children in order: this tome helped by Lady Louise.
Nice to see young Viscount Severn leading the Duchess of York and Princess Beatrice up the aisle.
He has always seemed so shy, but this time he even stood at the front to wave the bride and groom off in the carriage.

  90. Kate looked lovely but I found it odd that she was wearing brand new couture in hot pink. I thought the prevailing wisdom was for senior royal ladies to be more subdued and blend in at another's wedding. So that surprised me I'll be honest. Seemed one of her past grey ensembles for example would have been more suitable.

Eugenie however was divine. Sincere congratulations to the newlyweds!

    1. I think that's probably a media invention. Off the top of my head, the queen wore bright primrose yellow for William & Catherine's wedding, Anne has worn a bright purple floral suit and a bright yellow dress with an interesting hat, and Diana wore jade green with polka dots for Fergie's.

      Delete
  91. I think because it was a very high profile autumn royal wedding, she went bold. She did wear a brand new dress for Meghan and Harry's wedding too. Both dresses were designs she had worn before, so that is where the subdued part comes in. Even if Kate had gone with a brand new design in a bold color would it have taken away from the bride. Eugenie was stunning.

  92. I was multitasking yesterday, but I did try to watch as much of the wedding as possible. Just some thoughts I shared elsewhere...

I thought Eugenie looked beautiful; the gown was so flattering on her and I cheered the tiara. Loved the emeralds added to the mix. I was convinced that she would wear Sarah's tiara, but perhaps that would have invited comparisons they preferred to avoid.

I loved the vibrant and seasonal colors (both floral and fashion-wise). I thought Kate might recycle, but what was there not to love about her outfit? And it was nice to see "matching" accessories vs. neutrals for a bit of a change.

I also didn't object to Eugenie passing on a veil. It was a pleasant and personal twist. Beatrice's role surprised me most of all, but I think it was a good way to treat the role given that Eugenie is younger. It was more important for her to accompany Sarah since Eugenie did have her father at her side. And, although I have never been an Andrew fan, I think he came across as a very supportive father and father-in-law yesterday and that was lovely to see. Normally he looks so stiff and grumpy, but not yesterday.

I liked Sarah's outfit very much and the hat did work very well to balance her look.

The children were adorable! George continues to remind me of William as a child. Sometimes quiet and reserved, and sometimes quite a character. And I will say, again, that Charlotte is an old soul. She observes and absorbs her surroundings.

I thought it was nice of Sophie to step closer to Kate in an effort to shield her when the wind became a challenge.

Pippa looked lovely; great fit and color on her.

I will just add that Bocelli was a classy (and classic) addition to the royal wedding and I liked the seasonal approach to a traditional wedding cake.

    1. Always nice to see your comments royalfan. I've actually been wondering if Sarah's tiara still is in her possession - it's not been seen since 2001 and she's had financial muddles since then. Things do happen - imagine the Duchess of Alba selling that 'Russian' tiara to buy her son a horse! (Loved the look of the bride at the recent Alba wedding - it was the sort of understated sophistication I'd hoped for at the Sussex wedding.)

Should that be the case, debuting a never-seen tiara is a nice way to deflect attention. But it could all be preference as well - The Greville is a more modern look. It will be interesting to see the tiara choice when Beatrice comes to wed someday.

Whatever the reason, it was lovely all around.

    2. It's nice to see you back here, Julia. :-)

It's certainly possible that the tiara may not be in her possession, although I cannot imagine someone buying it only to keep it hidden away for all these years. And imagine the potential resale value of it.....

  93. The designer of Eugenie's wedding gown mentioned that he had gone through the archives to find out what a royal wedding dress should be like. Eventually I had time to look at old pictures. Eugenie's draped neckline was similar to that of Queen Victoria's gown and that of her oldest daughter. Queen Alexandra had flower swags across her skirt in parallel rows; Eugenie's dress shadowed those in the flowers of the fabric. The bustle and train of her gown were somewhat similar to Queen Mary's. So he did combine elements to construct a royal gown. I especially loved the way Eugenie's flowers repeated the colors in the tiara. The white and green were lovely. I wished the bridesmaids' sashes had been more green, less aqua, but those huge bows were so cute from the back as they walked down the aisle!

  94. Maybe because I didn't have much expectations on this wedding, but it really surprised me with its beauty!! Princess Eugenie was perfection: the tiara, hair and make-up, the dress and the decision to show her scar, everything was beautiful and touching. And the groom? So happy and sweet; I wish them a long life of love and affection.
In my opinion this was the royal wedding of the year and Eugenie is without a doubt in the top 3 of my favourite royal brides.

Our Duchess was the image of royalty with the raspberry hue and the burgundy accessories; probably my favourite wedding outfit in a very long time.

The Duchess was royal perfection!! I love the dress, the colour, the accessories...a smashing hit in my opinion.

  95. Oh girl, wearing heels when 9 months pregnant. I hope I can be that much of a rockstar.

Kate...gorgeous color, terrible hair. Again. So sick of that matronly updo. And I'm all for repeats, but why on earth would she spend money on 3 different dresses that are essentially the same? It seems wasteful to me.

  96. I have waited to comment in hopes that my thoughts on Kate's look would change but it has not. This is a big nope for me. I didn't like the silhouette before and I still don't like it. I wasn't a fan of the hat with the little net veil (not sure what it's called) - take that away and I would be good with the hat and my goodness she needs to stop with the hairnets. She has beautiful hair and she is not doing it justice. I'm disappointed in her look today.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I love the netting on Kate’s hat so 1940ish... I think Eugenie is beautiful and what a lovely day for fashion but so sorry I prefer a more tailored look for a wedding dress- her train was beautiful but the top part looked too big...
