It's A Return To Anglesey For The Cambridges

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge returned to their former home of Anglesey for several engagements today.

They shared their first home together - a four-bedroom rented farmhouse - on the Isle for three years before and after they were married. Months after the royal wedding Kate said: "I love our life in Anglesey. It's just nice to be outdoors and away from the city. As much as I love London, it's nice to get away". When the couple left William said they would return "again and again".

During their time in Wales, William worked as a Search and Rescue pilot at RAF Valley. It was special to return today to see the new base - Caernarfon Coastguard Search and Rescue Helicopter Base - and to catch up with familiar faces from their time there.

More from the Mail Online:

'William told his old crew that he does miss his old job, which involved flying rescue missions in all kinds of weather and terrain. Coastguard helicopter winchman Paul Jones and his wife Gemma, were with their son's, Finlay, 12, and Alex, aged nine, who were much younger the last time Kate and William saw them. Mr Jones said: 'It's lovely to see him, we worked very closely for three years and then he moved away. It was like he's never been away.'

William and Kate viewed the Coastguard’s new Sikorsky S92 helicopters.

Kate was very taken with this little girl.

From there, they joined some of William's former colleagues and staff from Wales Air Ambulance to discuss the mental health challenges first responders deal with on a daily basis.

A video from the visit.

Their next port of call was Halen Môn Anglesey Sea Salt, a thriving local business which has been operating for over two decades and which won the Queen’s Award for Sustainability in 2017.

William and Kate saw the salt-making process from hand harvesting to packaging, and discussed the company's involvement in local initiatives.

More from the company on their success: "In 1997, we left a saucepan of seawater to boil on the Aga in our family kitchen agaand as the crystals started to form, we knew we’d struck culinary gold. In 1999, we started supplying Halen Môn Sea Salt to Swains, our local butchers in Menai Bridge on the Isle of Anglesey. Today, our sea salt is enjoyed around the world by chefs, food lovers and even Barack Obama. It has been served at the London 2012 Olympics, political summits and royal weddings and is a vital ingredient in Green & Blacks chocolate and Piper’s Crisps. Along with over 100 of the nation’s best delicatessens in the UK, we also supply Marks and Spencer, Waitrose and Harvey Nichols. Our sea salt can be found in more than 22 countries across the globe as well as on the tables of some of the world’s top restaurants like The Fat Duck."

Finally, it was time for an embargoed engagement on Newborough Beach. The photos brought back memories for royal fans from the walks the couple used to enjoy in Anglesey after the wedding.

They joined the Scouts from Menai Bridge to explore Newborough Beach's wildlife habitat and to learn more about nesting bird colonies in the area.

The Palace said: "The Duchess previously volunteered with the Scouts during her time in Anglesey, and during the visit heard how the Scouts are working closely with local organisations and schools to protect the region’s natural habitat."

More from The Daily Post:

'The Duchess of Cambridge once appeared as a "very attractive" Miss Moneypenny at a James Bond-themed party, it was revealed as she and her husband returned to Anglesey to meet familiar faces from their time on the island.
The Duke and Duchess met with members of the 1st Menai Bridge Scout Group on the beach at Llanddwyn in what was described by one of the group's leaders as a "reunion of friends". The Duchess volunteered with the group when she lived on Anglesey, and asked to meet with them during the royal couple's visit to the island. Sue Hesketh, the group's Cub leader, said: "She said how nice it was to see us again, and how happy she was that we were still involved in scouting.
Malcolm Rogers, a Scout leader, said: "It was a reunion of friends today. It was so lovely to see the Duchess again. "She really got stuck in with us and the children and, when we had a James Bond-themed party, she made a very attractive Miss Moneypenny. "She told us today how much she enjoyed volunteering with us."
Christopher Hughes, 16, remembered the Duchess helping with the group when he was just nine years old, and was reintroduced today to the future queen. Speaking about her work with the group in the past, he said: "We didn't know who she was at first, but we were told she was important.'

Anglesey became the first county in the UK to be awarded Plastic Free Communities status by the group, in recognition of its fantastic work to reduce the impact of single-use plastic on the environment through its the ‘Plastic Free Anglesey’ campaign.

Finally they joined students for a beach clean up.

A wrap up video from the beach with nice footage of the Cambridges meeting students.

The Duchess opted for casual ensembles today - repeating several pieces from her wardrobe.

Kate wore her Philosophy Double-breasted twill blazer. The £760 claret blazer is part of the Resort '17 collection, inspired by the work of French designer Jean Bouquin who is famed for dressing the St Tropez jetset in the '60s and style icon Brigitte Bardot.

The Duchess first wore the piece in 2017 for an engagement with RAF cadets.

The Duchess brought back her trusty Aquatalia Rhumba boots for the outing. The boots are available in tall sizing at Bloomingdales and an updated version, the Rhumba II, is available at Nordstrom.

The piece is described as: "Encapsulating timeless vintage-inspired styling, our Midi Mayfair Bag is hand-crafted from the finest deep shine black croc print Italian calf leather. Both versatile and luxurious, the structured boxy design features three inner compartments secured with our enduring shield lock clasp. What's more, sumptuous black leather complements any outfit, and makes an exquisite transitional piece from day to night. The flawless finish of the leather's rich, glassy shine and the shimmering grosgrain lining give this accessory a truly elegant feel."

For the beach visit, the Duchess sported the Troy London Pop Wax Parka in navy. It's described as: "This lightweight coat is made from 100% cotton milled in England with a dry wax finish. A black sports-luxe lining provides fully waterproof protection and brings an urban appeal to this casual but elegant coat with a cinched waist and drawstring hood. Featuring vibrant orange detailing, gold cord ends and gold engraved bar." It appears Kate wore her navy Barbour jacket underneath.

Kate changed into her Penelope Chilvers tassel boots.

And accessorised with Kiki McDonough citrine earrings.

We'll see the Duchess on Tuesday when she returns to Bletchley Park, to view a special D-Day exhibition in the newly restored Teleprinter Building, marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

  4. I love Catherine and everything about her. She's the real deal, a true love match with William. I do wish, however, that she'd save the skinny jeans for other occasions. They're not quite right here. But as I said, I do love her, and I want the best for her.

    1. By observing all the photos with all the activity and William is wearing a blazer, Kate should have worn a black slim business pants that would have looked better with her beautiful blazer and compliment William’s outfit. I agree the skinny jeans for other more casual occasions. I love that Kate wore her KIKI Citrine Pear Drop Earrings 💛 that match the buttons on her blazer and hardware on the Aspinal of London Midi Mayfair Bag in Deep Shine.

    2. But later she swapped out the coat and shoes and was picking up garbage. So the skinnies were completely appropriate.

    3. I agree azaluckyj! Both her looks are well thought out, appropriate and she transitioned extremely well between the two.

    4. Yes she is always appropriate, amazing, when you think of it, it a real talent, to be able to always dress for the occasion. While I have liked some outfits more than others over the years I cannot recall ever thinking she is over or under dressed, or this outfit would be better for evening not in the morning...

  6. Ooh love this look! The red blazer looks so smart as does the ponytail. And as for the skinny Jeans fact is they simply fit Kate's figure much more than wide leg pants. Her long torso and lack of a waistline are better camouflaged in skinnys. Love the boots as well.

    1. I agree! The wide-leg pants look too bag on her. I prefer skinnies. She looks amazing in either though.

  7. I would be happy if she retired these blazers. I look forward to the engagements today.

That is a nice surprise! I was just about to go to bed, and this pops up! Love that blazer! I wonder if they will ask William to return to work as a helicopter pilot? Wouldn't that be fun!!!

Sigh, I don't love the Rhumbas worn with jeans like this, but I am glad to see them- it's been a while! Is that snow?! If so, I don't blame her for saying F-this, I'm wearing boots!

Perhaps this outfit had been planned for a bit, but I find it kinda gracious of her to not wear a new outfit today when M+H have sucha big day.

Not my favorite look on her, but I just ADORE when she puts her hair in a ponytail. Her ponytails are just glorious! I always look so severe with a pony, but hers are soft and still manage to showcase her beautiful hair.

well, at least I had yesterday's great look in some modest trousures!! I like the blazer especially the color on her. I like the boots but they would look so much better with a different pant. there ARE pants in between skin suckers and wide leg breezy trousures, I just wish she could find them. maybe I could mail her a pair? will be nice to see her and William together!

I didn't love this outfit on the first wear (it reminds me of a circus ringmaster), but the boot with heels and no gloves does help the rewear. I always love when we see Kate with pony tail. Fashion aside, I just adore seeing all the royals out and about during a such a busy and exciting week!

    1. Kate's look has an English country look to it and appropriate for the event. In fact, the circus ringmaster outfit was designed to look like an 18th-century gentleman's riding habit. She looks appropriate for the event and agree the ponytail looks great, an added bonus.

  15. Yikes, that's very pantomime principal boy look! The Americans may need to Google that for an explanation.
Not a fan of the blazer, or the skinnies, loved the nautical look the other day though.

  16. Her earrings are the ones she wore for presenting George and for his christening and also they are the same from her first engagement in Wales after her engagement. I Don't want to think that it was a simple coincidence.

I thought of that too. George, Charlotte, and Louis might get the names of their cousins mixed up!😊

      Delete
    3. Wasn't there an article some time ago about how someone had asked George his name and he had answered Archie? I am not quite sure, can you remember? And there was talk that George's nickname was Archie? That would be even more confusing!

    4. Jean from Lancs9 May 2019 at 10:36

Odd---some time ago the "Sun" newspaper reported that a woman walking her dog came across George and Charlotte playing in a stream with their Middleton grandmother. Police escort asked her not to take a photo, so as George was petting her dog, she asked him what he was called and he told her "Archie"
So now there are 2 Archies !

      Delete
    5. On the other hand, Archie is a pretty common name among certain circles, George may have just been using a classmate's name to conceal himself.

      Delete
    6. Whitney, that is what I assumed.

      Delete
    7. Whitney, IMO George is too young to think about concealing himself or his own name. At his age, children are very candid and outspoken, so much so one has to be very careful not to let them hear things that shouldn't be repeated, they just babble everything out.

  19. Lovely return to Anglesey. Walking on the beach must bring back a memories for William and Kate. I always think that their time in Anglesey as normal marriage and young parents of George is one of the most special.

I'd be glad to not see this blazer (the red or the blue) again. Still, it works for both engagements and the rest of the outfit transitions well. I love the outdoors look with those boots and the jacket. Her hair looks great today.

I'm sure they were reminiscing together while on the commute today!

  21. Love that Kate and William returned to Anglesey! I think that Williams experience while in Wales will serve him well with his initiatives and as King one day. I've heard from many that there is a strong camaraderie and bond between first responder's and those involved in critical care situations; its nice to see William and Kate stay connected and recognize the work of these individuals. I hope that they continue to visit. I've always liked this look on Kate and have always been a fan of the Rhumba's!! Love her hair in a ponytail, she looks wonderful. Like how she changed so easily into her parka and boots, and how great the two of them look together. I would agree with Karolina that it evokes memories of the picture of her and William walking along the beach (another favorite of mine). They make a great team and this is a heart warming engagement. cc

  22. I can’t STAND all black under a colored blazer. It just never looks right. And the turtleneck just makes it worse. I’m so over this look and I don’t know why she keeps coming back to it. I did like the second look however; the bouts looked great with the skinny pants and the jacket.

    1. That's what I love about this look: the pop of color over the all black. Very stylish.

    2. I was thinking the exact opposite. ;-)
I am not a huge fan of this blazer (or it’s blue twin) something in the proportions are out. But I always find a black turtle neck to be so flattering on Kate.

      Delete
    3. RachelZA I agree there is something off about the proportions of that blazer. The idea is good she just needs a different blazer.

      Delete
    4. I think she wore it because she had to do an outfit change. The second one required (or really was helped by) skinny pants & black top so she could do a quick change. I'm sue she wants to make the most of her time with people & doesn't want to spend time fussing with clothes. The blazer isnt my favorite but that is just personal preference. She looks beautiful, young, professional, appropriate and practical. Now that's hard to do. Bravo Kate for style! And more importantly they are so good with people. They are do down to earth and have such good rapport with people and each other. Lovely yo see a married couple treat each other with love and respect all the while having fun with each other. Kate's hearty laughing is heart-warming. Makes one feel as though we'd like to be her friend! Great to see them out together!

  23. I love that Kate wasn't afraid to look through the seaweed with bare hands. And then she wiped her hands off on her pants. It's a small thing but I love seeing normal behavior that everyone would do.

Good Lord Charlotte you have had your hands full today!! What lovely video and pics from today. Nice for them to be back in Anglesey!

To me Kate is grace personified. You can see how genuine she is with people. They are quite a power couple. And both gorgeous as well.

On the style front the red blazer and skinnies were meh. Perhaps a scarf or a long necklace? My perception is that she grossly under accessorize the day outfits and heaps them on the dressier occasions.

    ReplyDelete
  27. They make a fabulous team. Kate, as always, is beautiful. I do enjoy their joint appearances.

  28. Lovely day! I like how well they connect with people! Wales is beautiful but perhaps not the best weather in the world?

    ReplyDelete
  29. I was hoping that they would get to spend the night in Anglesey for a little date night trip back to the beginning. But by the looks that didn't happen. I really love their interaction with kids! I think Kate would have made an excellent teacher if this whole princess thing hasn't worked out.

Kate looks very appropriately dressed for the day. I do agree with Rita in Florida that a scarf or a necklace would add a little something to this outfit and many of her day time dresses.

    Hope from USA

  30. The Duchess looks terrific. The blazer itself I like but it seems ill fitting or somewhat a tad big? A scarf would have looked lovely with the blazer. The afternoon outfit I loved the navy jacket but also really liked the Barbour jacket she wore underneath a while back.

  32. Kate is seriously sparkling over the last weeks! And never was there anyone who looks better in a ponytail.

But please, not the skinny jeans again!
I am so over this 2005 skinny jeans/gymnastics leggings - look at all. It is starting to look very outdated and mumsy, not classic.

One commenter wrote the trousers yesterday were too bag. Absolutely not. They were tailored well and were oh so chic!
I think Catherine's perfect figure shines much brighter in something loose (but well tailored) than skintight.

Also William seems to have a terrific sense of humour. I love seeing them together.
