A Pre-Tour Reception For The Cambridges & Exclusive Azuni London Discount

With less than a fortnight until the Cambridges' official visit to Pakistan, the Duke and Duchess attended a special event hosted by His Highness The Aga Khan at the Aga Khan Centre.

The engagement follows a busy day of private engagements yesterday. William and Kate held a reception and meeting for the Royal Foundation. They also hosted a reception for finalists of BBC Radio One's Teen Hero Awards. They've hosted the event several times now - we should get photos at some point within the next week.

The Duke and Duchess will spend five days in the country from 14-18 October. We should hear further details on the itinerary any day now. It's understood it will include causes close to their hearts and highlight UK-Pakistan relations.

The Aga Khan is the 49th hereditary Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. He succeeded his grandfather, Sir Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan, as Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims in 1957 when he was just twenty years old. Over sixty years later, he has devoted his efforts to improving the quality of life for the most vulnerable, while emphasising the view of Islam as a thinking, spiritual faith. Below, William and Kate with His Highness.

Kensington Palace said: "The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has been working in Pakistan for over a century to improve the quality of life, promote pluralism, and enhance civil society. Through its development agencies, AKDN works with thousands of local communities and provides a broad range of services across the country, including school improvement programmes, financial inclusion, conservation projects, and healthcare facilities."

The Palace continued: "The Aga Khan Centre in London’s King’s Cross is a place for education, knowledge, cultural exchange and insight into Muslim civilisations. The centre is home to the Aga Khan Foundation, the Aga Khan University’s Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, and the Institute of Ismail Studies. The organisations work together to bridge the gap in understanding about Muslim cultures and to connect the public to global development issues."

The centre houses a library which provides secure storage for rare books and manuscripts in addition to a contemporary study space.

The event showcased modern Pakistani culture - it was organised in cooperation with the High Commission of Pakistan.

William and Kate had the opportunity to meet a range of people from Pakistan, including community leaders, those involved in British and Pakistani business, and key figures within the diaspora community, including musicians, chefs and artists.

Kate said she's looking forward to trying the food in Pakistan and revealed she enjoys cooking curries at home - making separate ones for adults and the children. Although, she added "Charlotte likes heat".

William and Kate met DJ and producer Naughty Boy.

A video from the engagement.

The Duchess wore a flowing emerald-silk ARoss Girl x Soler dress for the event.

The piece is descrobed as: "ARoss Girl x Soler's 'Amanda' dress channels the elegance of New York's Upper East Side and the vintage sensibility of Notting Hill's, Portobello Market. Cut from silk-georgette, it has an elasticated waist to define the smallest part of your figure and tie-fastening cuffs to create blouson sleeves." The dress is currently reduced from £825 to £577 in limited sizes at Net-A-Porter.

More on the collaboration between the brands:

'Designer, stylist and former Harper’s Bazaar editor Amanda Ross stumbled upon Soler’s charming atelier in London and fell in love with its craftsmanship and bohemian spirit. Under the name ARoss Girl x Soler, their collaborative line of silk dresses is a dreamed-up wardrobe.'

Kate accessorised with a pair of £6 Ceramic Drop earrings by Pakistani brand Zeen (with thanks to Heaven). Both the choice of earrings and the colour of Kate's dress were a sartorial nod to Pakistan.

The Duchess wore her Emmy London Rebecca suede pumps and carried the matching clutch in greenery suede.

His unique approach to design developed during his travels followed by three years of study at Sir John Cass Jewellery and Silversmithing University in London. From there, his unique and affordable pieces became an instant hit featuring in publications including Vogue, Tatler and Cosmopolitan. Take a behind-the-scenes look in the video below.

So nice to get this pre-tour engagement! Makes me excited that the tour is getting close!

A nice look as well. Modest but pretty silouette. And I like the peek of different green on the sash to tie in to the earrings!

  3. Love this outfit! The color of the dress suits her well! And love that she's wearing yet another pair of inexpensive earrings

  4. Love the color combination! The earrings are a nice glam touch!

  6. Charlotte, you are keeping busy! What fun that we will now get to watch a Will & Kate tour soon. Love the interaction between these two- so genuine & kind. And not the most important thing but it really is fun seeing what she wears. Living vicariously, I suppose. Love the length of this dress. Those midi length dresses that are in style now just give me such an 80s vibe and look so frumpy to me. Now this is a style I can copy with pleasure. Hope the have a wonderful tour. I can just imagine all the planning for themselves but also for the kids.

  7. I love the color, love the shoes (!!!), but I'm sort of tired of Kate's love of maxi dresses. It seems she's been wearing them all summer but IMO they make me nostalgic for her midi dress craze. All these maxi dresses fall at a length that make her look a bit mumsy and she's anything but that.

    1. Ivy Lin2 October 2019 at 13:48...I agree, but I think she is most comfortable this way....I personally think she should show a more sexy silhouette, but I'm not holding my breathe. Best thing is, she always looks confident!

      Delete
    2. I also miss her midi dresses... She looked younger wearing them.

      Delete
    3. I have no issue with Kate dressing more modestly today given the meeting with Aga Khan and perhaps out of respect for the Muslim faith. I'm sure we will see some more fashion on tour.

      Delete
    4. She can't show a sexy silhoutte at this engagement at all. I think we will see this type of dress a lot in Pakistan because it checks all the boxes in the modesty department.

Imo, this length looks less matronly than the mid calf.

      Delete
    5. I think the dress is beautiful and makes a strong fashion statement as well. Look how many heavily covered up men there are in the pictures! She owes no one in the world a sexy look when she is working.

      Delete
    6. I understand the modesty issues but she's not going to a mosque and afaik a midi-length would be fine for a mosque as well. Also she's been wearing maxi dresses all summer. It's her new thing. I know that when she finds something on-trend that she fancies she tends to overdo that trend and repeat it over and over with different dresses but I do find the maxi dresses somewhat mumsy and wish she'd go back to her old silhouette of the knee length or midi dresses and skirts.

    7. Kate looks so feminine and at the same time so appropriate. She should not go back to dressing like she was twenty again. Her clothes are timeless. 50 years from now when we look in the history book, she will still look appropriate.

    8. Well, she is a mumsy times three. She has earned the title in a way. And I would love to look so mumsy, haha
It’s very chic and understated and the color is wonderful. Love the length, too.

    9. I agree anonymous 20:47, not only IS Kate a mum, but I would love to look this “mumsy” on any given day. Lol

Kate looks lovely here, and she seems very thoughtful and respectful in her choice of attire. She is at an event in the middle of the day, honoring the Pakistani culture before a trip there, representing both the Queen and her country. I don’t see what place a “sexy silhouette” would have at such an event. I do really like the midi dress and feminine look that she has been going for of late—it’s both professional and feminine. I personally don’t think that “sexy” is a look that women should be striving for on a professional basis. That’s for date night (or red carpet events in Kate’s case), and Kate generally does a good job keeping those separate. Since she is going to Pakistan in a diplomatic capacity, I would not expect much “sex appeal” on this tour. I hope she will dress in a way that is respectful of the culture she will be visiting. I think today’s outfit was lovely and flattering and entirely appropriate for the time and place and purpose of the event.

I like the fact that she dresses modestly. not sure why she should have a sexy silhouette?? she is not a celebrity but a future queen. I too would love to look this mumsy. she is pure class.

    1. Agree Kiwi Gal and the earrings are by a Pakistani designer! Very nice nod to the host nation from Kate. Beautiful colors that look very good on Kate. I agree with others that we will see similar thoughtful looks like this from Kate on the tour. P.S. Love the jewelry from Azuni as well as the background on the artist. cc

  18. I love this dress. The colors are beautiful and the maxi length looks great on her tall slim figure. Can't wait for the tour, not just for fashion but for the representation Kate and William bring through their royal status.

  19. only £5 for earrings ?

  20. I haven’t been a fan of her latest fascination with midi/maxi dresses. But this is one I can get behind. I think the fact that it is a tad longer, makes it a lot more elegant and flattering. But most of all I love how it moves, so soft, feminine and elegant. And the colour, it goes perfectly with her lighter hair and her make-up.

And I think it is her most successful attempt at diplomatic dressing yet. While I appreciate her diplomatic dressing when on tour it has often touched on too much. This is a perfect nod to the culture of their host country without looking like she is trying too hard.

    1. I still think the black dress with the embroidered fern on the shoulder was her best take on diplomatic dressing.

  21. Just wondering if there has been any information on the focus of this tour yet? It's lovely that both William and Harry will get a chance to "follow" in Diana's footsteps, so to speak: Harry in Angola and now William in Pakistan. I think it must be bitter-sweet for both of them, and very moving. William will have Kate by his side, but sadly Harry was by himself on that part of the tour. Meanwhile, love the colour and bodice of Kate's dress, and both look wonderful on her. I think the tie belt seems to cut the flow of the dress, and keeps it from being elegant.

  22. I am sorry to say it but this must be the ugliest dress she has ever worn. Ever. The fabric looks incredibly cheap although it is supposed to be made of silk-georgette. The sleeves and upper part of the dress and the sash do not go together and make it look like it was made in the 70s and the fabric is polyester.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I also think the dress looks ‘cheap’. Despite the hefty price tag. When I first saw the pictures, I thought ‘oh, I may not like it, but it’s nice she went for a high street brand’. From my perspective, this dress it isn’t looking bad on her and it’s appropriate for the occasion, but it’s not clear what the intent behind the choice was. Other than perhaps the colour being close to the green on the Pakistan flag. But otherwise I cannot see the difference. Perhaps she will choose local brands on the tour. It would be nice to see them included.

  23. Kate looks fabulous in this color- reminds me of my favorite outfit of all time on her- the Jenny Packham gown with lace and a v-neck- just such a good color on her.

She really does love to give sartorial nods to the places she's visiting. It's fine, but it's a bit much sometimes. I think this one hits the right balance, however.

    ReplyDelete
  24. My, my, my! Such a surprise. I had a dress almost identical to this in the 1980s but in a saturated peach. (Teal and peach were crazily on trend for a while back then.) Mine didn't have bows on the sleeves and had a narrow, structured fabric belt. And, of course, shoulder pads though not the monster ones. Just enough to give a little extra illusion of hourglass curves.
Wish now that I'd kept it instead of purging in one of those decluttering swoops. Sigh.
    Looking forward to the tour.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Beautiful as always but not a look to remember...can do better still being ok for the occasion IMO

    ReplyDelete
  26. This is a lovely dress, the Duchess looks beautiful. The flow and fall of the dress on movement is very becoming. I like the sleeves it gives the dress a different look. I do prefer the placement of the sash as shown on the model. Shoe and bag colour I absolutely love, just right. The earrings I like as fun jewellery, but with a dress such as this for me personally emeralds would have sealed the deal, (I'm an emerald girl!) that would have been classic, of course if you have them.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agree about the emeralds!

      Delete
    2. I think Catherine must be longer-waisted than the model, so the elastic waist and the sash didn't hit at her natural waist, to create the slightly "bloused' look that he model shows. Too bad, because I think it would have made the whole look much better.

      Delete
  27. I scrolled through the comments to see if it was just me, and apparently it is.

I HATE these pumps with this dress!! They are dark and heavy looking suede. Totally wrong for the floaty feminine dress. A strappy heel or even a peep toe (in nude) would have been 100% better.

As always the woman looks incredible and her smile will light up the darkest room.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The model is wearing the belt differently and the dress seems to be shorter on the model. I agree that the strappy heels on the model make the dress less "heavy," but I think the dress moves nicely when Kate is moving. Certainly beautiful colors!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think Kate looks fab I like the whole outfit Only Kate can carry it off so chic and regal Love it x

  30. Lovely! She hit all the right notes! Gorgeous floaty dress in a great color. The length & sleeves long to respect Muslim culture. Beautiful jewelry & not too expensive for most of us. Love the blue & green! Perfect look!

  31. The color, dress, pumps, clutch, accessories are a mix of shades of greens blues from head to toe and were done beautifully. I always look at what William is wearing and he is very well put together today and is now wearing navy shoes that looks so nice. I have been suggestions many times that he needs to up his wardrobe with other color shoes, belts and ties, even a light shade of shirt verses always white. I think both their outfits are perfect for this event. 💚💙

  32. I love reading about their private engagements. Sometimes I think that Kate should be doing more engagements, but I believe she does quite a bit behind the scenes, so that kind of makes up for her number of engagements in public. And obviously I am not forgetting that she has three little kids with who she seems to be very hands on.

The tour is very promising. I am very curious about their schedule.
As for the outfit, it seems perfect to me, I love the nods to Pakistani culture. I am thrilled about $5 earrings. I hope she is going to recycle the dress at some point. Although the shoes and clutch don't seem like an obvious choice, I think they are a match for the outfit and they complement the dress nicely.

  35. Oh dear. I cannot bring myself to like this dress at all. The colour is nice but that’s about it.
And I don’t get the comments about modesty in regards to the Islam. Just have a look at his ex-wives and his daughter. She could have definitely worn more fitted or shorter clothing and still would have been perfectly modest and appropriately dressed.
This is a case of overdoing her recent love for maxi dresses and no neckline.

I don't understand why she needs to dress more provocative? I don't think you can compare her to his ex wives and daughter, cant she just be herself and dress the way she would like? the way the rest of us do?

      Delete
    2. Im pretty sure C didnt mean that Kate has to dress like ex-wife and daughter, but rather giving a good example that she does not HAVE to dress that conservatively - since many readers implied that it would be obligatory.
She doesn't NEED to dress more daring, but a bit more edgy would not have harmed or insulated anyone it seems.

That being said, I like the dress, but not so much how it fits her. A tall woman might wear it better possibly (I think Kate's hight is most often overestimated due to her high heels)

      Delete
    3. I didn’t say she had to? I just said that she could have if she wanted to. I actually argued that this was completely her choice and not something she had to do out of respect.
      C.

      Delete
    4. How is her height overestimated? She's 5'9 which that means she's a tall woman and in fact she's the tallest female in the Royal Family now. Also William is 6'3 so when we see Kate wearing 4 or 4 1/2 inch stilettos you can she's around 6'1 or 6'2 and thats almost up to her husband's height. That's why I believe she's 5'9 and also I've seen people who have met her says she's much taller in person.

      Delete
    5. My guess, based in fotos from her next to Williams, in flats, is that she is 170- 172 cm ( 5'7 if im doing the conversion right?).
Considering hat Williams hight is correct. But who knows...
That's not small for sure. Maybe a bit on the tall side.
But it's nice high to wear heels.

      Delete
    6. Hey Davion, I believe that anon meant that the 5'9 are an overestimation. Does that even make any sense :)?
But I agree with you, she is rather tall.
