UPDATED: Kate in Goat & Banana Republic for Heads Together Launch

Fresh from last night's spectacular celebration of Her Majesty's 90th birthday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry attended the launch of Heads Together - their campaign to end stigma around mental health - at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

William, Kate and Harry are keen to build on the great work that is already taking place across the country, to ensure that people feel comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing, feel able to support their friends and families through difficult times, and that stigma no longer prevents people getting help they need.

The Palace noted the ambitious campaign is "the biggest project they have undertaken together to date, and will see them working in partnership with inspiring charities to change the national conversation on mental wellbeing".

The organisations involved include Kate's patronage Place2Be and Best Beginnings, CALM – the Campaign Against Living Miserably, Contact (a military mental health coalition), Mind, The Mix, and YoungMinds. According to the Charity Partners page on the Heads Together website, Kate's newest patronage, the Anna Freud Centre, has been added to the list of participating charities.

Heads Together

News of the campaign was released late last month, when an introductory video featuring the royal trio was released. It was also revealed Heads Together was chosen as the 2017 Virgin London Marathon Charity of the Year, an exciting coup for the initiative in terms of fundraising and awareness. At next year's marathon, hundreds of runners will take to the streets in support of mental health.

They were joined by campaigners, beneficiaries, and ambassadors from the mental health charities who shared their aspirations and experience in the field.

Prince Harry and Kate's private secretary Rebecca Deacon.

The launch offered an opportunity for the royals to outline their interests and ambitions for the campaign. During a joint speech. Kate said "Heads Together wants to help everyone feel much more comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing".

A look at the full speech:

'The Duke of Cambridge - Through our work with young people, emergency response, homeless charities, and with veterans, we have seen time and time again that unresolved mental health problems lie at the heart of some of our greatest social challenges.
The Duchess of Cambridge - Too often, people feel afraid to admit that they are struggling with their mental health.  This fear of judgment stops people from getting the help they need, which can destroy families and end lives. Heads Together wants to help everyone feel much more comfortable with their everyday mental wellbeing, and to have the practical tools to support their friends and family.
Prince Harry- The Heads Together campaign wants to involve all of you.  We're already working with our partner charities and thousands of people to change the way that people think about mental health.  We do not want prejudice and fear to stand in the way of people getting the help they need to cope with life.  As the year progresses, the three of us – working with all of you in this room and others who join us along the way – want to come up with practical ways of providing everyone who needs help with the right support and care. We want to build on the great work that others are already doing, but make it even more ambitious. By putting our heads together, we can all make a big difference.
The Duke of Cambridge - But first, Heads Together wants to get people talking.  The more we talk about mental health, the more normal the topic becomes, and the more we feel able to open up and seek support. By asking for help, by telling a friend we have a problem, by asking someone else how they feel – by having a conversation – we take the first step to feeling better about ourselves – and the first step to being able to cope better with the ups and downs of life. This is relevant to everyone. So let's all get our heads together and let's change the conversation, from one of silence and shame to one of optimism and support. Thank you for joining us at the start of this exciting journey.'

William, Kate and Harry saw first-hand the innovative approaches the charities will use to create a national conversation on mental health.

Place2Be recreated a Place2Be room - a calm and welcoming space in school children can visit.

The Duchess played with children and discussed their experiences.

When asked to write down what makes her happy, Kate wrote 'a walk'.

William wrote his children make him happy and Harry wrote "making people smile".

Kate looked at the Baby Buddy App - designed to support parents through pregnancy and beyond.

The royals enjoyed trying boxercise. William said Kate took to it "like a duck to water" and "she has a mean right hand". Ex-boxer Duke McKenzie said the Duchess was better than William and Harry "I think she's done this before". Kate met a DJ spinning records from The Mix.

More from the Mail Online:

'All three royals also stopped off at a stand run by charity The Mix, a multi media national support service for under 25s who are asking young people up upload their favourite songs to create a special mix track. William, Kate and Harry were all asked to name their most uplifting songs. Harry - who actually got behind the decks and tried his hand at mixing with Kiss FM DJ AJ King - asked for him to play, appropriately, Naughty Boy's Runnin'- which is, apparently, the song he likes to go out running to, appropriately. 'I don't think I was any good, ' he admitted.
Kate asked for Emeli Sande's Heaven, a song she says she finds 'uplifting', while William also plumped for his favourite running track, Andy C Heartbeat Loud. Kate said: 'I would love to see what everyone uploads ands why.'

You can listen to 'Heaven' here.

Prince William chatted with representatives from CALM.

Prince Harry played mental health jenga.

Heads Together social media pages have been active sharing quotes, stories, pictures and videos from mental health charities in an effort to get people talking. You can find their Facebook Page here and Twitter Feed here.

Kavita's story about her struggle with depression and the help of charity Mind is a very interesting one:

'In 2012, Kavita was diagnosed with a physical health condition and experienced a difficult time at work around the same time. The pressures meant that she was not sleeping properly and felt unable to cope. Kavita said: “I knew something was wrong, but thought that I should be able to cope better. I had a great job and amazing friends and family, and no-one would have guessed how much I was struggling.”
Kavita went to see her GP who diagnosed her with depression and she was referred for Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Kavita realised that exercise, particularly running and swimming, helped her to feel physically and mentally better. Over time, the CBT and exercise made her feel stronger.
Over the years Kavita has become an active runner, and last year set her sights on running the London Marathon. She chose to raise money for Mind as mental health is a cause she feels very passionately for. Kavita said: “I have come to realise that depression is something that may affect me again. However, I know how lucky I am to have such amazing friends and family, to help me through these difficult times. Many people don’t have anyone and charities such as Mind are a lifeline.” Kavita, is running the London Marathon in 2017 in aid of mental health charity, Mind as part of the ‪#‎HeadsTogether‬ campaign.'

Heads Together are asking everyone to "Share, download or pin this Heads Together pledge & help us change the national conversation on mental health."

Heads Together

Moving on to what Kate wore today.

Kate looked elegant in the cream Binky Blouse by Goat for the engagement (with thanks to The Royals and I).

GOAT

The £290 garment is described as "A classic and beautifully crafted blouse is a key building block of a capsule wardrobe and the understated and feminine Binky blouse fits the bill perfectly. This slim fitting blouse has a round neck and full sleeves that gather into the cuffs with silk covered buttons. "

GOAT

A closer look at the full sleeve.

GOAT

The Duchess teamed the blouse with the Blue Geo Jacquard Midi Skirt by Banana Republic. The £105 skirt is a cotton A-line piece with a striking pattern. Midi skirts are very much in fashion at the moment and I think pairing it with a simple elegant blouse worked very well. It's available in very limited sizes at Zalando.

Banana Republic

Banana Republic have several similar midi skirt in stock including the Bold Floral Midi Skirt, the Ruched Floral Midi Skirt and the Gerber Daisy Midi Skirt.

Banana Republic

Kate accessorised with her sapphire and diamond drops.

Kate carried her navy suede L.K. Bennett Frome clutch and wore her Cartier Ballon Bleu watch.

Kate completed the look with her navy suede Rupert Sanderson Malory pumps.

The speech can be viewed in its entirety at You Tube.

You can watch a video of the royals boxing here.

After the launch the trio attended a private meeting with charity CEOs.

It was great to see the royals today, I'm very much looking forward to seeing more engagements in support of Heads Together in the coming months.

We'll next see Kate on Friday when she visits the 1851 Trust.

  1. This look craves for a necklace. It is intresting how she misses the final touches each time.

    1. I disagree. A necklace would have been clutter. Kate looks great. And there are those two pairs of Blue Suede Shoes again! :-)

    2. No clutter for me.-)

About those shoes, I agree. I prefer the Goat model version of white shirt, black skirt, black shoes anything except for suede.

    3. As I looked at her outfit I was also wishing for a necklace to match the ear rings and her engagement ring.

    4. I agree. It looks best just the way it is.

    5. I agree that a necklace wouldn't have been too bad. Below the waist was an eye-catching sight, but above the waist everything was pristine and plain. She could have even worn her tanzanite necklace or her Mappin and Webb Fortune White Gold necklace.

I agree with Anet about the missing final detail quite often, I have always wondered why Kate quite never uses jewels .... a thin and simple gold necklace would do good ! and that skirt ..... I wonder who told her that would be elegant .... the length might be this year fashion, it does not look anything, while the blouse is absolutely beautiful !!

      Delete
    10. I also think that a necklace would have been distracting from the flowiness of the blouse.

      Delete
    11. Anett, I wasn't criticizing the shoes, I was only referring to an old song that some of us remember. Suede is a favorite of mine, and so comfortable. I can understand why Kate wears it. Her pumps are beautiful, and Harry's shoes, which may be black with blue soles as someone said, are quite cute.

    12. Good heavens. What a suggestion. A necklace would have overwhelmed the look, given the gorgeous and busy pattern of the skirt. And what a proclamation that Catherine "misses the final touches each time." How exhausting. Catherine is revitalizing just to look at. Once again, she knocks it out of the park.

God, I'm so freaking proud of this initiative. Them putting all of their weights behind it, attacking it from different angles but with a common goal!! Amazing! I like that they walked around and visited "each others" stations as well! Such a great initiative and I hope it really makes a difference. So great to combine all these charities that can probably learn alot from each other considering they work with rather different areas of the same issue!

On the look. They all look really great! I love Kate's look. And her skirt picks up both the gents blue colours. They really, visually and otherwise, show a united front which is perfect for this event. Which was also clear in that they made a joint speach. Really nice that they are really taking advantage of their strength as a trio!

I love when Kaet does separates like this, a great look all around. Very modern silouettes with the longer skirt and the sleeves, but still very classic and professional! A little outside her box but still in her comfort zone. Great balance!

I agree. It's perfect timing to launch this on the heels of the Invictus game because Harry has been more "present" in the media recently so people are more likely to take notice of what he does. Great timing :)

    5. Very well said, Rebecca. I think Catherine looks lovely. I appreciate her style evolution and her continue freedom to be herself in why she wears. This look was perfect for this event. It almost reminded me of something CP Mary would wear, elegant and seemingly effortless. It feel like there is a growing confidence confidence to Catherine that's shining through recently. I give her 👍🏻👍🏻

  3. I like the pieces separately but wearing them together her proportions seem off. Maybe if the skirt was sitting a bit higher or was a little shorter?

    1. Yes I feel the same, the skirt needed to sit higher on her waist to pull off that length of skirt. Regardless of this though, she looks lovely as always.

  6. wow,

Kate said one of her favorite songs is "Heaven" by Emeli Sande. IF you want to know how criticisms are affecting Kate google the lyrics to that song. You will think twice about ever criticizing her again.

The lyrics of the songs that William and Harry mentioned as their favorites will astonish you also. William's song by Andy and Fiora (?) mentions predestiny weighing on one's shoulders and how two things (George and Charlotte?) now help him through. Harry's song's lyrics of "Running" by, yes, Naughty Boys, are about outrunning the memories of the past. All three songs each one mentioned are very revealing. Definitely worth googling the lyrics. I don't recall at the moment the title of the song that William mentioned as his favorite.
The song titles are mentioned in the Hello article.

    3. Kate, herself, said she would love to know what everyone would upload song wise and why. That, to me, makes her selection even more poignant.
We love you Kate and you are doing a very good job all the way around. I personally don't know one person who could do it as successfully as you are. Not one. Be encouraged. xo

Thanks for pointing this out. :)

If you don't want to read the whole article, William's song is Heartbeat Loud by Andy C & Fiora

      Delete
    5. I don't think they were a coincidence either Rebecca. I think that was another "Kate thing" speaking volumes, particularly since she did bring up wanting to know what songs others would choose and why. I am so happy that she has a good support system. I hope that support system only gets stronger and broader. I hope that she allows her faith to be her mainstay though. I believe that has been the lynchpin for the Queen all these years. The anchor holds.

    6. I totally think Kate mentioned that song to explain her situation and her feelings and to ask everyone to give her second chances.

    7. Victoria, Oregon16 May 2016 at 20:26

That song feels like a window to her soul. I mean, it caught me off-guard reading it. Like, the most confident, beautiful person can have self-doubt or a sense of loneliness or regret. Gives me a new perspective on her humanity.

I don't think constructive criticism is wrong. But I do think to underline, like we do here, that we are for her, is always a good idea.

Now, on to read the lyrics to the songs William and Harry chose.

    8. I'm so proud of these three!! Especially Kate. She is an incredible woman. Her song choice speaks volumes to what she may be feeling and her interest in what others would choose shows her authenticity in learning about, and connecting to others. Absolutely love her!!! Kate's look today was charming, I love that she wears items that are accessible to the average woman. Well done Kate!!!

    9. Wow, that does seem like a big insight.
Let's maybe all take a minute to say some positive things about her. :)
I think it's admirable that she has taken on this role, that she's so dedicated to her children, so close to her family, that she has such an obvious passion for children in general, that she has chosen some very important causes to support and that she makes these engagements seem like they're an easy thing to do, when they're probably not.

Here are the lyrics to one of her favorite songs.
    "Heaven" by Emeli Sande.

    Will you recognize me
    In those flashing lights?
I try to keep my heartbeat
But I can't get it right

    Will you recognize me
When I'm laying on my back?
    Something is gone inside me
And I can't get it back

    Oh heaven, Oh heaven
    I wake with good intentions
But the day, it always lasts too long
    Then I'm gone (repeat)

    Will you recognize me
    When I lose another friend
Will you learn to leave me
Or give me one more try again

    Oh heaven Oh heaven
    I wake with good intentions
    But the day......

Hhaa, I thought it was funny and cute that William wrote the kids and Kate a walk :P You can tell which of them is the "main caregiver". For William, the kids is the break he gets when he comes home from work. For Kate, while she loves her kids, the walks are the break from her everyday life that happens to involve more of the kids :P I thought it was such a standard and relatable answers from them :P

  18. Thank you Charlotte for the, as always, interesting post. A wonderful initiative. We all of us need to talk more about mental health problems and help mental health become a health problem like any other that is accepted as a health problem and not as something to be ashamed of as many people are. No is ashamed of having high blood pressure. Mental health should be the same. I liked Catherine's outfit, appropriate to the event, and the colours reflecting the heads together logo. Thank you also to the poster for the information on the song choice. I will listen to all three. It is also good to see the three young Royals working together for such a good cause. 1. Kate and Pippa are the names of two members of Mathematics Mastery's Staff. They have no relation to Duchess Kate and Pippa Middleton.

Mathematics Mastery had used the names Kate and Pippa in a story problem, that asked you to solve for Kate's Weight

      https://twitter.com/MathsMastery/status/731454029314719745

Many thought this was disrespectful to use a royal's weight in a story problem, especially since you had to compare weights to find the solution.

Mathematics Mastery tweeted this morning to clarify that Kate & Pippa are names of staff members. They alway use staff members names in story problems, and did not intend to make reference to Duchess Kate and Pippa Middleton.

    7. I love all 3 of them. I think they are great and this cause is beyond perfect!

However, I see what you mean. I've heard the words "Time and time again..." several times from them regarding this issue. I see how it seems canned. But, I remind myself they are not politicians who so often get elected solely on their mesmerizing way of speaking, etc.

Two of them were born to this role, one chose to be in it to be married to the man she loves. In other words, being eloquent speakers isn't a required skill to be world leaders in their case.

But,I DO so wish they would learn the power of a well written speech and the ability to deliver it without looking down so much and without repeating the exact same phrases too often.

To be fair, politicians may use teleprompters more than I realize. Also, people like us, who frequent blogs and royal news sites hear every speech they make versus just a casual follower so maybe repeating phrases and large chunks of speaches is the norm? I don't know.

I do know that I cringe just a tiny bit when I see them speak. I don't cringe at small fashion mis-steps but the ability to speak clearly without looking down a lot and repeating phrases is so powerful and if they could improve on that one thing their already awesome positive energy would be multiplied tenfold!

  25. This outfit is so much better than last nights . To me last nights was confusing. Fancy up do, fancy earrings, a too casual and too short coat, and a stark white dress for evening? This is way better. I really love the blouse. While it's nice to see her in a skirt instead of her usual dress with a coat, I don't like the pattern on this skirt at all. The shape is nice but the pattern kills it for me lol. I'm sure she thought "fun" or some thing for the kids but I'm just not a fan. Her hair looks nice today though.

  26. Kate looked beautiful today. I am not a fan of geometric patterns usually but with her sapphires the print was okay. Kate looks radiant and loving in whatever she wears, in spite of Natasha's often weird choices.

I always love it when Kate is photographed with William and Harry. They do look like the three musketeers. What an obvious strong and special loving bond there is between them. I love that they all gave their speeches together. And, in heralding opening discussions on mental health, they are forced to share more of themselves in a more personal way. And, in that format, I think it is a safer and better way to do that.

  27. The three musketeers are back and stronger than ever. What a great way of combining forces under this one umbrella brand that will bring much more clout to all these worthy causes.
Interesting choices of music too, although I don't think we need to over analyse. I noticed on the video clips realised on press pages, a few background comments (presumably by the press) about how good it seemed they were pausing for photographs as they arrived (although not in a staged obvious way) - seems they're recognising the need for a good press shot of them together, although no doubt the boxing pic will be on most stories.
She looks in fine form and like the bold separates. The GOAT brand seems to fit her elegant yet simple style really well. Thanks Charlotte.

  29. The only complaint I have is...if you know you will be giving a speech, wear your hair up girl or at least half back. Each time you look down at your notes or speech, every one is hyper conscious that you are reading from a piece of paper when your hair is swinging down covering your face. A sleek ponytail would do wonders for your public speaking skills.

Very poignant as well. Either they made the choices as a way to speak without speaking, or these choices were uncounciously very poignant in lyrics. Otherwise, the 3 of them having so fitting songs is a huge coincidence.

I am so in love with the concept of Heads Together. I also love the different focuses by each of the royal trio.

I think that male suicide is a huge issue that is very under represented. I know that Harry touches on it a bit with his work with veterans but William is taking it a step further with males who aren't veterans. Both princes are focusing on parts of the population who often don't seek care because of public perception. A good friend's husband, an active duty service member, committed suicide recently. She is left to raise four young children on her own now. I sincerely hope that the awareness Harry sought and spoke of during the Invictus Games, and the awareness they continue to seek with Heads Together and their foundation will help to shine a light on the issue. That the public at large will stop and think before they judge.

I suffered from PPD after having my first child, and continued to deal with it for years, and whilst I never got to the point of contemplating suicide I know that to get to a point where that was the best option my friend's husband had to be haunted by memories all the time. For someone to get to that point it has to be ghastly.

I look forward to seeing future engagements tied to this issue and the Heads Together initiative.

As far as Catherine's look today, I love it. She stays true to herself with the long sleeves and wrist and peps it up with the printed skirt. I think she looks lovely. I also think her hair and makeup have been looking very nice lately. A lighter hand with the makeup brush and eyeliner but still beautiful.

I agree. All these groups they are focusing on are people who either doesn't ask for help or is not listened and belived. The veterans, the macho men who is used to being strong, thinking asking for help is a weakness. But also the kids, where adults say "you're just a kid, what do you have to be depressed over?" or "Kids can't be bipolar". So many misconseptions around mental health issues, that is why it needs to be talked about!

So, as Heads together wanted to do. I now open up a conversation. I am diagnosed with Asperger (a form of high function autism) and as a result of going undiagnosed and trying to act "normal" burned myself out and is battling debilitating anxiety that leaves me "stranded" in my home. Thankfully, no more panic attacks anymore but I have knowledge in that as well. (I'm not saying this for sympathy). So, since it's hard to know about different mental health issues, it can be scary to ask someone because you don't want to hurt them etc. So if you have any questions, ask me and I'll try to answer (unless it gets too personal so people can know who I am :P ) to the best of my abilities :)

    3. Rebecca - Sweden, I have worked with a number of children who are on the spectrum. I am so glad that nowadays most teachers no longer try to force children with challenges like noise, lights, sitting still, their very frank way of looking at the world, to conform. My heart aches for you and for all adults who had to pretend that we were "normal." My mother called me a moody child but it was only years later that I was able to read enough books to realize there is moody and there is depression. Depression is my black dog. Thanks to the Three Musketeers today and all of the mental initiatives in England, a good friend there messaged "So now I am starting to understand that my telling you 'what do you have to be depressed about' was incredibly insensitive." It doesn't seem like there is quite that level of dialogue here in the U.S. about adult mental health. Or maybe it is the area I live in (Arizona).

Rebecca, my oldest grandson was diagnosed as autistic at two years of age but the diagnosis has now been modified to Asbergers/Aspergers as he is very high functioning. He is now at secondary school and coping very well. However we have had to learn to understand that he perceives things differently from us. A lot of really brilliant people have been diagnosed this way. We don't all have to be the same and after all what is a "normal" person like anyway. We should view others as unique individuals each with their own special gifts and ways of behaving. There is no right way. I wish you all the best.

I'm sorry to read that you are "stranded," but at least now have a better understanding of how to manage your diagnosis. I recently experienced a highly stressful months-long period at work and am fairly sure I had some panic attacks, which have now ceased since the stress has abated. It was terrible and I'm so thankful it appears to be situational rather than chronic.

You show so much love and empathy to everyone, Rebecca, and have such a balanced way of seeing things, that whatever diagnosis you have received, I know you must be radiant inside - that can't be an act. I'm glad the panic attacks have settled - I met so many suffering from those when trying to overcome my phobias and it is the most difficult thing. I know we all stand together here hoping your anxiety settles too - so you can get out more - although we want you to always be here commenting too - your comments are so wise. And I know we extend that feeling to everyone else here who has had difficulties - whether they have mentioned them or not.

I don't think it is coincidence that Harry and Kate chose walks - no doubt their real choices but it is also a hint perhaps, to those struggling - such a soothing thing. When life gets a little too much, that has always been my relief - I call for the dogs and just get out in the air.

My middle child/younger son is almost 11 and he has Asperger's as well. He is very high functioning but didn't speak at all until around three years old. It took loads of OT, PT, speech therapy, behavioral therapy to get him talking and eating normal foods. He also has sensory integration disorder. His version is the one where he needs things to be extra hard to feel them. Like hot water doesn't register unless it is REALLY hot. He could walk barefoot on asphalt and not know it was burning his feet. I still remember the day he told me he loved me for the first time ever. One of the best days of my life. My husband was at basic training at the time and when he left our son didn't talk at all and when he got back he heard him say dada for the first time and tell him he loved him. My husband was amazed. I am so happy that we caught my son's diagnosis early in his life. I really believe that early intervention is the best possible option. It gives children the best possible chance at living a "typical" life. He is still so socially awkward and has a horrible time reading cues from body language but he is so intelligent it scares me sometimes. He also has OCD, which is most likely from me.

As far as opening up a dialogue - I suffered pretty badly from post partum depression after the births of my first two children. I never contemplated hurting them or myself but I couldn't really connect with them for a while. I was miserable. PPD is still sort of a weird topic as far as stigma. Some people hear PPD and think I wanted to harm my children which is a whole other issue, post partum psychosis. Since then I have struggled with depression on and off. When I was diagnosed with MS in January 2009 my depression and anxiety rose to the highest it had ever been. I felt like I had been handed a life sentence of being miserable. I was angry at God, angry at the world, angry that there is no cure. Just plain angry and depressed. It doesn't help that MS in and of itself can cause depression and most of the medications on the market to help treat symptoms of MS also causes depression. Add onto that the constant pain and fatigue which causes insomnia and you have a recipe for being desolate.

When fertility treatments for a fourth child failed multiple times my depression became even worse. I am sure the hormones didn't help either. I am willing to answer questions about depression, PPD, anxiety and OCD.

Rebecca - I have really bad anxiety but for me the worst part of it is the constant worry when we go out to dinner, drive in the car, etc. My husband cannot believe some of the random things I worry may happen. I used to have social anxiety a lot more than I do now. I think I just put my personality behind a closed door and play the part of wherever I am at or whatever I am doing. That way I don't have to worry about people liking me, etc. For a very long time I hated leaving the house, although not to the extent you do. I know you aren't looking for sympathy but I am so sorry that early intervention wasn't as prevalent as it is today. I am glad that you have a diagnosis now and hopefully you can find coping mechanisms that work for you.

Wow, Valerie! How big that your friend could see that now! Because I can understand the whole "what do you have to feel bad about?" thought that people have, because sometimes you have it about yourself. The hard part is that it's NOT logical!

Bluhare: Thanks :) I'm working on it :P One day at a time.

Exactly Anette! In the best of worlds, no diagnosis would be needed because people would realize that we as humans are different. But since this is in no way a perfect world, spreading knowledge about mental health issues and disorders can go a long way in making it better! I'm so glad that your grandson has such an understanding enviroment!

AnnieMO. Thank you :) I thought it was wise to actually talk about this now. If not us, their close followers, do it, how can we expect others to :) I'm sorry you had to experience that kind of panic. Most people sometime in their life has panic/anxiety/depression in some form, usually short lived. That is why it's even wierder that it's not talked about more! Glad it seems to have eased up and hope you can have a nicer balance! And yes, it sucks that I'm a bit stranded (but blogs, social media, chats etc give me ALOT of social input and output that makes it way better. That and my family!) but I see it like this: When I was a kid, I buildt my foundation for my life on "faulty blocks" not made for the enviroment they were gonna be in so when the winds hit hard they crumbled. This time, while it's taking longer, I'm building my life foundation with proper blocks so that they will stand the test of time.

Anon 05.52 No, I'm not. I'm a human with my bad sides and my good sides and better or worse days just like the rest of us :)

Julia: Wow, thank you for that compliment!! :D I wish walking could work for me. I've never been a very training or mobile person and a bit afraid of the dark. But the dark is the only time I can walk nowdays because of the social issues that has piled on from the anxiety. Thankfully at times I can take walks in the evenings with my dad and dog :)

Courtney: I'm glad your son could get diagnosed rather early in life. It helps so much to learn the coping techniques. I was around 20, and it's not uncommon for Asperger girls to be diagnosed late because women in general are more good socially or at least want to fit in more than boys so it usually masks alot of the "social bits" that are hints to you having asperger.

Thank you for sharing!! I cannot imagine how annoying and mad you must be at having had such dark times around times that are "supposed" to be so bright. And to have all these things piled on and hormones and medicine. I understand that you would be angry! It's such a frustrating and irritating thing to fight with your own brain!
And the odd things you get anxiety about. Like I cannot go make a sandwich. Why not? No clue! Too many steps? A mental roadblock? That is the worst thing for me. The unlogical reactions at things. You say to yourself "this is not a normal reaction, why are you reacting like this" because you know that it is nothing to react at but the body and mind doesn't listen. It's really frustrating!

I hope everyone here who fights with something in their life, whatever it is, know that I wish you the absolute very best!!

And also, thank you guys for having this place that is a refuge for alot of us. There are times when we might annoy eachother or want different things from this place. But it makes my heart good to know that underneath it all this is a very tight and loving group of peole who will support when things that really matter shows up! 13. To all the posters who have so bravely talked about their health problems thank you so very much. You have brough the problem from the abstract into the personal and have opened the conversation and hopefully made us all a bit more compassionate of not only the problems but also each other. A snappy comment might of course be a snappy comment but also might be someone having a bad day. I work in health and every day see people who have spent months agonising about seeing help or accepting treatment mainly because the general community attitude to mental health is so poor. Still seen as personal weakness, as failure and not a health problem like diabetes. Perhaps community attitude is partly fear and lack of understanding but also perhaps because there are no tests for diagnosis, no - well your serontonin is down and your dopamine up so you probably have bipolar. We will do xyz to fix it. My heart goes out to all people struggling. I hope that as a community we will grow in understanding, to be able to talk more about mental health, be able to regard mental health as one of many health problems, and to bring mental health in out of the cold. Please please every one keep talking. I would like very much to commend the young royals for highlighting this issue and more importantly for creating the umbrella for so many organisations to work together.

Thanks for sharing, Rebecca! I just want to tell you that there's a Czech fairytale called "A White Deer" about a kind and beautiful girl who isn't allowed to go out during daylight as it would harm her. The only time she can walk outside is after it gets dark. Your comment about walking with your dad and dog made me think about it. You really are a very kind and compassionate person, that is apparent from your comments. I do think it is wise to take one day at a time - not just for people with a diagnosis but for everyone, in a way. I'm way too worried about my loved ones and sometimes it's really difficult to cope. One day really has enough of its worries. Anyway, the fairytale finishes with the girl finally able to walk outside even in the sun - the sunbeams no longer harm her. I wish you all the best.

I'm really thankful the Trio is focusing on taking the stigma off. And Alimai, your take on the diagnosing process is so right on, I think. One of the reasons I haven't even tried to be diagnosed is because it's not taking over my life and I don't want to be on medication that makes me more depressed or anxious, and I don't even think my healthcare covers mental health issues. I have learned some good relaxation exercises and breathing that really helped with stress and panic attacks. Again, thanks everyone... and it's a good reminder to not judge people. A win win all around. Such a wonderful organization, and then to see the three of them, who work so well together, supporting Heads Together. With Harry fresh off the Invictus Games, the timing was perfect. I thought Kate looked lovely. The pairing and the color of the skirt and blouse was perfect. She is so beautiful, inside and out.
I read the lyrics to Heaven and was struck by how very telling they are. It gives one a sense of her gentle nature and sensitivity. The RF is very lucky to be able to call her one of their own. She is such an asset to the UK.

  42. Kate is a beautiful woman but I'm not sure if she's lost her fashion way or she's getting bad guidance. She should be projecting a young, sophisticated, confident, and yes fashionable image. This looks like something an office clerk would wear to work. It's dreadfully dull and better suited to a 50 year old. And last night just a disaster of mismatching, great pieces on their own as everyone said, but not together, and really out of place, especially in a sea of black ties. The rare up-do, which I loved, saved her from looking inappropriate.

She is gorgeous and either needs to tune out the "input" she's now getting and get back to her own fashion intuition (if that was really her instinct in the early years) or quickly go find some good guidance.

That huge ruffled Erdem dress was the first shocker, and IMO the purple lace D & G was the next one, and so on and so on. She still has major wins, and enough to soothe my sartorial nerves, but that was never an issue in the early days. I totally admire her for her amazing grace, good humor, poise, attitude, dedication, love, and style - but she really does age herself with so many voluminous outfits of long sleeves and long skirts, high necks and busy lace and patterns. Love her though, and I know it's much more important to focus on all the fabulous work she's doing. Forgive me Kate! :)

But then if we all thought she dressed perfectly and she did everything we thought she should, we would have very little to discuss and would only be here to idolise her. Where would be the fun in only doing that!

    7. Hey Anon 18:09, I'm 50 and I think of myself as young. Minimal difference since my 30's, just a more mature brain! I think Kate has the edge in this outfit. She looks fresh and classy, and reminds me of Princess Mary of Denmark.

    8. Rebecca each piece may be fashionable on its own, but I personally wouldn't wear this outfit and don't know any other 30-somethings that would wear this overall outfit either. I could see the blouse with slim trousers or a fitted, kinda sexy pencil skirt, and I could see the block skirt with a very fitted, maybe deep v-neck top with slim belt, or even fitted, nipped blazer, but a puffy blouse and full skirt together is aging and school marm - IMO. Some accessories may have saved it, a big belt, jewellery, something. She looks fine, it's not a disaster, but I personally think it's aging. And all the other European princesses people mention are in their mid 40s! kate's not even 35 yet. And she seems to be trending this way sadly.

The outfit was chosen to go exactly with the logo of Heads Together. Otherwise, I agree. She needs let Natasha do others things, not choose Kate's clothes. She needs to get a real stylist.

    10. Sorry, but I do not like this look at all. Yes, Kate looks happy. Her hair is nicely styled and there's a glow about her. But the skirt is all wrong. It's not the bold pattern that I mind, so much as the cut and length of the skirt. It seems very dowdy to me. Also, in my opinion, the skirt and the blouse just don't go together. I have to agree with Anon18:09 & Anon18:14 that this look is very aging. I'm 20+ years older than Kate and I would never, ever wear an outfit like this.

Loved everything about the event, that the three of them are jointly supporting these very important issues and that they look amazing together! You can really see that bond between them and it's great to witness. I loved Kate's outfit today - very polished and gorgeous all the way around. If any of you did not get a chance to see any of Harry's Invictus Games, you really missed out. I watched bot the opening and closing ceremonies as well as some of the events themselves. The stories told, the athletes that were shown were all beyond words. Prince Harry was everywhere - handing out medals, visiting the athletes, visiting the families, giving interviews. Amazing event all the way around. Myself, my husband and two other couples are driving to Toronto next year to watch. I can't wait!!!

  44. As they arrived at the Heads Together event there were logos of Heads Together displayed. Kate's blouse matches the white heads of the logo and the black and blue in her skirt and shoes match the rest of the logo perfectly. A very Kate thing as someone mentioned recently. Just like she wore that dress with the cloud print to the launch of Shaun the Sheep movie. The promos for that had a huge field of blue sky and white clouds. And the more I think about what she wore last night, the more I think it was a last minute decision, knowing that the shawl wouldn't be enough, and perhaps to wear the red as part of the patriotic thing. Perhaps her team can plan better next time, check the weather forecast. The Heads Together outfit was very appropriate. Kate is stunning though no matter what. I watched the boxing video and wow does her loveliness come through dazzlingly or what. She is one in a million.

I just hope the Royal family gets to enjoy the beautiful fruits of labor also. I am sure they could never ever find anything as nicely done and as consistently and fairly supportive of them. You always choose the best photos and include the best videos. Your links to the charities that you so faithfully include are beyond thoughtful. The contests and polls are so much fun. It mustn't be easy at all but she always look so nervous while reading/speaking. Thank you for the post.

Crisp and clean and feminine and with Kate's pretty "school marm" style in full swing. She is just so elegant! Also loved Harry's shoes, very cool black shoe with blue soles, kind of a modern wingtip or oxford. William should take note and retire those tired brown shoes. I also loooooved Rebecca Deacon's look! How cute is she?!!! That boxy blouse, slender cropped pants and nude heel, with a luxe black bag and chain, so chic! Well done, her. 65. When she pulls it together beautifully like she did yesterday, I feel bad that I've labeled her outfit coordination skills as "quirky." The skirt doesn't do much for me, but it looks great on her, and I love the way the blouse softens up her look. I can see why white is her favorite color.

I think I figured what may have happened with that inexplicable red coat/white lace dress combo. She was all set to wear her new white lace D&G dress for that event, but thought it looked wedding-y so she decided to add black accessories. When the weather turned cooler and she realized Will and Harry would be wearing those Windsor jackets, she decided to add a dash of red. She put the red Zara on, but wasn't sure it looked right. She asked Will what he thought. Like husband's everywhere, he was terrified to give his opinion and/or just didn't know any better, so he just said "you look great, honey." Now, he owes her one!

  69. And, speaking of songs, Adele's "Make You Feel My love" ALWAYS teminds me of something the Duchess might have related to. It was released in 2008, the year after their reconciliation.

Very unlikely she related to it, but, as a fan, when I heard it recently, they flashed through my mind. :)

  70. I love that they have started Heads Together, mental illness affects so many people and particularly young people can feel so alone and misunderstood when they're struggling with things like depression and anxiety because so many people don't "get" it. Bravo to the Three Musketeers!

On the outfit, I love it and I'll be making a trip to Banana Republic soon to scoop a skirt up for myself.

On a side note, I am SO impressed with Prince Harry. I live in Orlando, Florida and had the opportunity to go attend the Invictus Games last week. They were brilliant! So well organized, so inspiring and such a great time. Harry is really making a difference in the lives of so many people, veterans and civilians alike. I think he is actually the perfect example of Royal duty and grace under pressure.

  71. I just had a chance to watch the speech, and I must say it struck me how incredibly nervous she still gets as soon as she starts speaking, quite noticeable next to William and Harry. Many people settle down after they've started speaking, but a few, like Kate, get even more nervous as they go along, maybe as they hear themselves speak they get increasingly self conscious. I noticed it when she spoke in Our Queen at 90 as well.

I'm glad to see them having a steadier level of engagements since returning from India, I think it would be good to see her making some kind of comments at every event, practice makes perfect as they say. Start with just a few sentences, and add more at any opportunity, until it becomes as routine as chatting to family or friends.

I feel she spoke a little more at events when she was first married, maybe she was so panicked by it she didn't want to do it again, but the best thing would have been to get back on the bike! Family, friends and staff are doing her no favors by shielding her from the reality of her current and future role. William even may think he's done her a favor by letting her "lay low" in past, but she'll only get better the more she gets out there. The longer you put off the inevitable the harder the transition is!

And I agree with another comment that she should keep her hair at least in a half back style when she's making comments from notes, the hair flicking is distracting and a little unprofessional frankly.

    Those are my quibbles!

And a side note for my fellow, more mature royal watchers :) Prince Andrew's friend Jeffrey Epstein is back in US political news, maybe causing some problems for Bill Clinton after new flight logs from Epstein's infamous private jet were released. I'm sure staff at BP will be keeping a close eye on this, in case new logs pop up. Terrible lapse of judgement by many people who should know much, much better, to say the least.

    1. I thought she came across less nervous this time and her voice was quite controlled. I don't think the Queen at 90 can be used as a guideline because we don't know how it was filmed and edited to fit the script. Agree her hair should be pinned back when doing speeches. I think she has come a long way in the speech territory since her first time.

      Delete
    2. The Queen at 90 isn't a great example but not because of editing or filming. In that case, there could have been multiple takes, there was no audience and not nearly the pressure of speaking live in front of an audience. And she still sounded quavery a couple of times. They probably used the best footage they had.

  72. Tell me these lyrics by Adele in "Make You Feel My Love" doesn't remind you of what either of them might have been feeling near their 2007 break-up (near the time this was released)! :)

Super presumptive and maybe overly romantic on my part but it's fun to fantisize about that whenever I hear this song. :)

When the rain is blowing in your face,
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love.

When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.

I know you haven't made your mind up yet,
But I will never do you wrong.
I've known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.

I'd go hungry; I'd go black and blue,
I'd go crawling down the avenue.
    No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love.

The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
The winds of change are blowing wild and free,
You ain't seen nothing like me yet.

I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
    Nothing that I wouldn't do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love

  74. 00:37,
Thank you for posting that lyric. Her voice is divine, but I never followed her music and lyric closely. It might have applied to W&K as you pointed out. It is so interesting that I have witnessed a relationship some years ago where there was a break up, and a make up after two years apart. The young couple after exploring life apart in distance and life experience, made up. This lyric in a way fits to many relationships broken and made up. Sometimes it is the second time/chance which makes people realize what it all meant, means and will mean.

"One and Only" as written by Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, Greg Wells and Daniel D. Wilson.

This another one in similar category.

"Make me your love" is very true. Your validation is on point. There is such experience of depth in love.

Well it shines like the sun keeps warm and be brilliant, or like the stars twinkle bright and slip away. Lucky are those who know what the true and real meaning of love is just in time. Or to know, it is not love and when to run away.

  75. Alimai wrote: "A snappy comment might of course be a snappy comment but also might be someone having a bad day. I work in health and every day see people who have spent months agonising about seeing help or accepting treatment mainly because the general community attitude to mental health is so poor." That is so, so true! I war with myself about even reading Comments because I take everything SO personally! And then why do I open my big mouth--or flex my fingers--because I "can't take the heat" anyway. Working with children, we forgive those who have been diagnosed with "special needs" their outbursts and petulance because they now have a label that says "oh their behavior is due to such and such." But for those of us adults who suffer from depression, who have suffered for over 50 years at a time when you got chastised for being moody, fired for not smiling enough or for crying, or for wanting to go home instead of to some party, somehow to say "Can you not say that because it hurts," seems impossible even with loved ones. Because we DO have opinions and want to voice them which then means that the other person of course has the right to respond. And for someone like me, I take the response way too personally. So again I am so grateful for those of you who have come forward about mental health because it makes this particular thread a safe place to be.

  76. Perhaps Kate suffers from a bit of anxiety and t shows in her voice when she speaks in front of people she isn't familiar with... It would explain why she is so passionate about mental health issues and also why she rarely makes public comments. I don't know, just a thought. But I do agree, it will only get better if she continues to practice and get comfortable with public speaking. As for the hair flicking, it is rather distracting but I think it is a nervous habit for her and she may be one of those people who isn't sure what to be with their hands... That also explains why she ALWAYS has a clutch.
