The Duchess in the Queen's Pearl Choker for Her Majesty and Prince Philip's 70th Anniversary Dinner!

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh marked their landmark 70th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends at a special dinner held in the State Apartments at Windsor Castle this evening. It's a wonderful opportunity for the Royal family to gather and mark the momentous occasion with Her Majesty and Philip's dearest friends.

We hadn't anticipated arrival photos, so a special word of thanks to the indefatigable James Whatling.

William, Kate and Harry were also snapped a little earlier leaving KP. As you can see the Duchess was wearing a black jacket.

William, Kate and Harry were all smiles as they arrived.

Unlike previous milestone anniversaries, the couple elected to celebrate this one privately, however, four wonderful new portraits were taken.

Photographed at the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle, Her Majesty wore a cream dress by Angela Kelly, which she also wore at the Diamond Wedding Anniversary Service of Thanksgiving. She accessorised with a special piece - the yellow gold ruby and diamond scarab brooch - which was a personal gift from Prince Philip to the Queen in 1966. The images were taken by renowned photographer Matt Holyoak. He said: "I feel very honoured and privileged to have been asked to contribute to this very special occasion. My vision for the image was to capture an intimate and natural portrait of the Queen and Duke to celebrate their landmark anniversary. The Queen and the Duke were very happy and relaxed which made it a pleasure. I feel the images showcase their strength and unity."

The couple posed against a platinum-textured backdrop, in recognition of the special milestone. The image below is my favourite of the four; it captures a very sweet moment and a very loving expression from Philip.

Her Majesty had a rather special gift in mind for her husband to mark the milestone. She appointed the Duke of Edinburgh to be a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO). Awards in the Royal Victorian Order are made personally by the Queen for services to the Sovereign. The gesture has been seen as formal recognition of his decades of support, both in public and private. The Telegraph revealed: "The appointment makes him the first UK  citizen awarded four order of chivalry breast stars since Lord Mountbatten of Burma, the Duke's uncle and mentor who was instrumental in encouraging the early courtship of the young Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. It is thought that the Duke is now the only living person to have the four: GCVO,  Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter (KG), a Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle (KT) and a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (GBE)."

Seventy years ago today the couple said 'I do' at Westminster Abbey.

This photograph, taken from above, shows Princess Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey with her father King George VI, on her wedding day. Her bridesmaids lean in to adjust her veil.

Princess Elizabeth and Philip were photographed at Buckingham Palace following their marriage in Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947. Norman Hartnell designed the wedding dress, which was decorated with 10,000 pearls sent from America. The tiara was ‘something borrowed’ from the Princess’ mother, Queen Elizabeth, and the pearl necklaces were a wedding present from her parents.

A selection of special moments they have shared together over the decades.

A number of excellent articles have been written including a piece by Allison Pearson for the Telegraph: "He was her one act of rebellion, she his one act of conformity."

'Three score years and ten is our lease on this Earth, according to the Bible. What does it mean to be married for that long, to spend a whole lifetime together? In the shag’n’go era of Love Island and Tinder, a dating app that “facilitates communication between mutually interested users” (be still my beating heart!) the 70th wedding anniversary of the Queen and Prince Philip feels like a magnificent achievement, almost defiant in its patient and tender longevity.
Some things never change. The official portrait to mark the most successful marriage in Royal history shows ninety-one-year-old Elizabeth smiling warmly at the camera, as she always does. Her husband, still ramrod straight at 96, gives that unmistakable flinty-eyed Philip look which hisses, “Get on with it, man!”

A deep love for each other and a shared sense of humour have sustained the pair, now aged 91 and 96, through good times and bad. Phil Dampier discovers 70 touching and amusing stories about the most famous couple in the world.
1 Elizabeth and Philip, both greatgreat-grandchildren of Queen Victoria and therefore cousins, first met in 1934 at a family wedding when she was eight.
2 Philip captured her heart in 1939 when he was asked to look after Elizabeth and sister Margaret on a visit by their parents King George VI and Queen Elizabeth to the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
3 Handsome blond-haired Philip, then 18, sealed their friendship over ginger biscuits and lemonade and impressed the 13-year-old princess by vaulting over a tennis net.

Royal Family

The Duchess chose her DVF Zarita gown for the family affair. Kate first wore it for the Royal Variety Performance in 2014 when she was expecting Charlotte, and sported it again for a friend's wedding weeks later. The gown made a stylish return for the Anna Freud Gala dinner earlier this month. It's a classic piece and appears to be a very comfortable choice for Kate at this stage in her pregnancy.

The black dress is fitted through the bodice, waist and thigh, and the piece opens to a sweeping fluted hem. The delicate gown, crafted from sheer lace features a v-back and is fitted with a slim band around the waist that flatters the silhouette.

The shorter version remains on sale at Nordstrom Rack and Matches.

As previously noted, for those seeking a Repli-Kate for the party season, the Adrianna Pappell Scalloped Lace Gown remains available at Dillard's. It features the same scalloped v-back and floor sweeping hem as Kate's.

The eagle-eyed Kate J from What Kate Wore suggests Kate's coat is the Alexander McQueen Long Textured Coat. From what we can see, I believe this is correct. The $4,450 piece is described as "Crafted in Italy from a soft cashmere, wool and mohair blend, this long textured coat from Alexander McQueen features a wide lapel, a concealed front button placket, two front pockets, an exposed seam detail, long sleeves with turn up cuffs and a straight hem." It's available at FarFetch.

The talking point of Kate's look tonight was not her gown; the Duchess accessorised with a new elegant piece of jewellery on loan from the Queen (with thanks to the lovely Sara).

The Four Row Japanese Pearl Choker was commissioned by the Queen from a set of the "finest cultured pearls presented to her by the Japanese government". Her Majesty's Jewel Vault notes: "The necklace includes four rows of pearls with a central diamond clasp in a curved shape, each side including three rows of diamonds that join at the top and bottom with marquise diamonds. She made her first state visit to Japan in 1975; the choker was in use by at least 1982. The Garrard book posits that it was inspired by the Queen's new daughter-in-law at the time, and she did notably loan the piece to the new Princess of Wales during a state visit from the Netherlands in 1982. It is only occasionally used by the Queen, in whose collection it still remains."

A video from the 1982 banquet (you'll also see the Cambridge Lovers Knot Tiara sparkling in all its glory).

Kate also wore Princess Diana's Collingwood Pearl earrings - they are fast becoming a staple in her jewellery collection.

I do so enjoy seeing glimpses of Royal family celebrations and it was wonderful to see the arrival photo tonight. Perhaps, if we're lucky, an official photograph will be released. Seventy years of marriage is quite simply incredible and a love story spanning seven decades! Wishing them a very Happy Anniversary, I hope it is a splendid evening filled with enjoyment and laughter, they deserve it!

Before we leave you, we have news of a new engagement added to Kate's Calendar. On Wednesday, 29 November, the Duchess of Cambridge will visit Robin Hood Primary School to celebrate their work with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Campaign for School Gardening. During the visit, the Duchess will get a briefing on the RHS nation-wide campaign and hear about the benefits of learning outside from Robin Hood Primary School. Her Royal Highness will then join children in activities in the outdoor learning area and sensory garden, and celebrate the 34,000 schools and groups now engaged in gardening through the campaign. Robin Hood Primary School has developed a whole-school, progressive outdoor learning curriculum with support from the RHS.

We'll see you on Wednesday when William and Kate visit Birmingham! :)

  1. Ooh! I like the necklace! It's different than her typical necklaces. She's getting a lot of use of this black gown but since I love it, it works for me!

  2. I pretty much expected this dress choice. It's a classy standard number that works well at this stage of her pregnancy so a good choice! Fun to see her play with some more of the Queens jewels. I'm generally not fond of pearl "chokers" (This one is a bit long for that but you get what I mean). Probably a generational thing. But she looks beautiful!

Just a little random question here, can anyone tell me how far Kensington Palace is from Windsor Castle? Is it a long drive / short drive? I'm just curious as a possible tourist :)

    4. It's about 30 minutes by train from Paddington Station. I haven't driven there, but I will tell you that it's almost surreal to arrive in Windsor by train and realize that it's steps away from the castle. Windsor is like a being in a postcard. Highly recommend it!!

It's not a long drive if you avoid traffic - the absolute worst part.

If you are to visit, I'd take the train. The closest is to take the train to Slough and then the shuttle; if you don't change, you go to a different station as I recall.

There are all those lovely shops between the station and the castle with cashmere and other goodies in the windows! Last year they were having sales, I left Leo in our hotel and had a wonderful time!!! There are a few very good restaurants too - we choose a French one where the wine helped soothe Leo after my shopping excesses. Everything is very close and easy to walk to. There is a decentish pub called the Duchess of Cambridge too as I recall or perhaps it's the Duke of Cambridge.

We went to hear an art lecture at the castle - always look at the site to see what special events may be on offer - it was heavenly to see the castle decorated for Christmas and to feel at night you had it almost to yourself. It was beyond beautiful - so magical.

And the photo of Philip and and the queen is the Gainsborough portrait of Queen Charlotte - it is because of the length of George and Charlotte's marriage of course why that setting was chosen but do note the charming little Pippin spaniel by her side - almost as charming as my favourite portrait of their children in Buckingham Palace playing with the spaniels, by the American Copley.

    10. Probably you still need to visit the Castle on a day when the Queen is not in residence. We got to see her standard flying above the round tower early in the morning, and then after she left we were admitted. Be sure to visit the state rooms, the chapel royal, and Queen Mary's doll's house. Such amazing history, paintings, architecture, and incredible miniature design. You will love it.

    11. Julia, you have just spoken the 2 magic words... shopping and wine! Given the importance of the latter, I think that taking the train would be the better option Lol!

I have visited London 3 times for work and once for a holiday. When I visited for work, I used the train to get around because I did not want to get lost driving myself and trying to find my way around. When I visited for a holiday, we stayed with family and they were kind enough to drive us around hence my curiosity about visiting Windsor. But you all have been so kind and helpful with your suggestions, thank you all so very much! :)

  3. Venturing tentatively out of lurkdom for a bit just to say that it looks like Kate is wearing another of the Queen's pieces of jewellery tonight - the four row Japanese pearl choker. At first I thought it might be a re-working of Diana's famous multi-strand choker with the sapphire in the middle, so I went searching for pictures and found that it isn't, but that Diana actually wore this piece too - in 1982 for a dinner as part of a state visit by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

I just love it when these wonderful pieces are brought out by a new generation - Kate looks great in it!

Are we sure it is that black dress and not the one she wore in NYC? I think she might be a little by too pregnant to be wearing the long black dress because it was pretty tight a few weeks ago. Or do bellies not grow that fast? I’ve never been pregnant so I wouldn’t know lol. I thought she might have been more comfortable with that ink blue Jenny Packham she has worn three times since it isn’t so fitted but that is just me.
And I really hope she grows her hair out again because this length just isn’t working for me
Congrats to the queen and prince for 70 years of marriage. I couldn’t imagine being married for 70 minutes let alone 70 years lol

    1. I imagine that the length of Kate's shorter length hair works for her better than a longer length.....longer hair equals longer time to wash, condition and style and more likely to get in the way when busy and taking care of young children.

  17. Brilliant post thanks Charlotte.

I have a question and throwing out there...
Do you know how the Queen makes these loans of jewellery?
It would be nice to think that she sits down with Kate once in a while and goes through some of her pieces with her hoping that Kate might wear them or does she send them to Kate prior to these occasions and with an obligation to wear?
Does Kate then keep them ( on loan) at her own choosing or are they returned to the vault every time and K requests them?
The significance of the wedding bracelet The Queen loaned her for the state banquet for example - I would have thought the Queen would had a lovely meeting with Kate and gave it too her and shared the significance etc and a lovely gesture for K to wear... rather than having some courtier deliver it with instructions to wear it.
    Just curious to know...

This is a fantastic question and I have wondered something similar. I'd love to know. I wonder if Kate just goes to the person in charge of the jewelry and asks if she can borrow something the queen isn't wearing.

I like that she chooses jewels that represent Diana, but that also represent the queen. She knows how to walk carefully and respectfully with a nod to both. Love her.

      Delete
    4. I seriously doubt she sits down with every family member who wears her jewellery. I suppose it is a big deal for us fans, and for Kate who was not born into this. She must feel really excited and special to wear these pieces. I just wish she would be better to wear these pieces, right now, the pieces wear her. Stylist time!

    5. One of the Queen's Royal Jewelry box blogs might know, yeh?

      Delete
    6. I believe that the Queen's dresser uses her computer to plan plausible jewelry choices for the Queen's outfits, and probably also for any member of the family who needs to borrow something. I think the Queen would be asked to give her approval. And if Kate wears something like the wedding bracelet, I can't imagine the suggestion could come from anyone other than the Queen herself. As for tiaras, it was said that Kate had a choice from among three for her wedding. She has subsequently worn three tiaras, but they may or may not be the same ones - other than the tiara she did wear to be married in, of course.

Chokers can reveal or hide the neck. Queen Mary's large diamond choker hid hers, even when she was young (I could not bear to wear that!), as does the equally tall pearl and diamond tiara now worn by the Duchess of Gloucester. The smaller choker, worn lower, is revealing. Diana wore this one most gracefully, with a lovely bodice. Kate needs a bit lower neckline with it, but it is still lovely on her, and I am glad she wore it.

    7. Thanks, Patricia. I also believe that the Queen bestowed great honor upon Kate by suggesting that Kate wear those two very, very special bracelets to that state dinner. That was something very special and significant.

  21. Loved seeing the photograph of Queen Elizabeth's bridesmaids adjusting her veil - beautiful behind the scenes moment. I am hoping that we get an official photograph released of the Queen, Prince Phillip, and their family to mark the event, but maybe not with the photographs that have been released of just the Queen and Phillip. Seventy years is a long time to sustain a marriage. The season 2 trailer for The Crown hints at quite a bit of drama early on (I know this is not a sanctioned show, but I still enjoy it). I wonder if Kate and William watch it - he kind of battered away the question about it during the BBC Radio 1 interview before the London Marathon).

That photo is one of the first I ever remember seeing - it was in a book my mum had of the royal wedding. I hardly even understood what I was seeing - I was perhaps two of three - it seemed more like a scene out of fairyland of a magical princess with all that gauze around her. Sadly, we don't see too many magical photos anymore like that or the ones Beaton took against backdrops - but they still bring back wonderful memories for me of how I felt about royalty as a child before cold reality set in.

I love The Crown for all the glorious details especially but I wonder if the royal family does watch shows like that - and whether it induces horror or giggles or some of both.

First of all, congratulations to the queen and Philip - a wonderful celebration. I hope it's a splendid party. My own dear parents would have been having their seventieth this year - I miss them every day.

I suspect it's the long dress Kate is wearing - the queen is usually formal. It makes sense she didn't get a new dress for this occasion - perhaps we'll see one for royal variety. I've been wanting that choker as a loan to her - and I'm glad to see it's not constricting as the other necklaces have been. I would rather see it lie on her neck, not the dress but that may be the case when she stands up.

I'm hoping quite eagerly that there may be a group photo of all family members because it's likely to be one of the last times they are all gathered - many are elderly. But I'm prepared to be disappointed - the royals of late haven't been as good about releasing photos as some European ones.

As for loans, the queen seems to make long-term loans more often than loaning them about to different family members as the Swedish family does and perhaps for that reason, she doesn't often loan jewellery she wears with any regularity - more than that is beyond me - does anyone else have a guess? I know she does loan rather than give for tax reasons.

For lovers of royal jewellery, I commend From Her Majesty's Jewel Vault.

After reading comments here and elsewhere on another blog, I'm going to make some of my dreaded scattered remarks on the queen loaning jewellery.

With respect to Rachel, I don't think the queen loans more to Kate than Camilla and Sophie. Camilla has a chunk of the queen mum's jewels loaned to her which are from the queen. These pieces would be heavy on a younger woman like Kate these days.

I've seen Sophie in a number of loaned pieces. I wouldn't attach too much sentimental attachment on the queen's part to any of these loans one way or the other - I think it's more based on what a particular royal lady made need or want.

But thinking of comments elsewhere, where there was a suggestion that the queen was loaning Kate the dregs of the royal collection - that's nonsense - the queen only loans out pieces she doesn't wear much to any of her family. The queen designed this piece herself and I'm certain she thinks highly of it - she just may feel she's too old to wear chokers - something Camilla might also consider - they look better on younger necks. The queen has tended to loan Kate pieces she wore as a younger woman which unfortunately don't always suit Kate the best - I don't think fiddly jewels are ideal on Kate.

Elsewhere, there was a suggestion, Kate doesn't wear jewels well but I think it's more a case she hasn't always been loaned what would suit her best. I believe some of the gifts the queen has received but don't suit her well may actually long-term be the best looks for Kate. This choker made from gifted pearls is a good start.

There was a statement elsewhere that Kate wears lots of loans whilst Diana didn't. But this isn't true. Diana wore a number of loans in the beginning. Later she chose to wear her own jewellery more but I suspect that had to do with tensions in the marriage and the fact in those times, it was easier for her to debut gifts of jewellery from the Middle East without criticism or comment. There was a suggestion elsewhere the queen was making a link between Diana and Kate by these loans. I don't believe this - but William may like to see Kate in jewellery he associates with his mother - which is very nice.

There was a suggestion elsewhere William doesn't buy Kate jewellery and Kate is buying all her Kiki items herself. But we don't know this. William may very well be buying these items for Kate. It's not uncommon for men to buy from the same company over and over. I do personally think the Kiki items are overpriced for what they are, but that's my taste, not William's and Kate's.

There was elsewhere a snide remark that Kate doesn't have inherited family jewellery. So what! Yes, it's nice if you do, but not everyone does. Even Camilla doesn't have a lot of family jewellery and Sophie certainly doesn't.

    1. I do agree with you about chokers and young necks, Julia. They are beautiful on a young woman if she has a lovely neck but accentuate the neck lines and sagging of women past a certain age. So, Kate needs to hurray up if she wants to wear Diana's chokers, and I do hope they are at her disposible because she would wear them well.

Just as an aside. I know a lot of people consider most jewels from the Queen's collection as ponderous and old fashioned but I think younger women ( if they know how to wear them) can look great in inherited jewelry while it can be aging in one's older years.

    3. I also think bling is timeless Erika but agree that it is not always best for more mature women in that it depends on the piece and the outfit more than usual then as you said. I hope every piece of jewelry from the vault sees the light of day during Kate's tenure. ☀️ "Free the Bling" lol

All of that was wonderfully said Julia, I agree with you on the chokers and everything else! you hit just the right note:)

    5. Diana liked to have FUN with jewels and it made some very traditional pieces appear "new" again.

For example, I loved this look! Nothing stuffy about pearls here...

I don't think Kate will "go there" until she herself is Queen. For now, I see her following a traditional path in this department. But old pieces CAN look great and take on a deco quality if one sets the stage, so to speak.

    6. Yes to all of the above!! Plus, I've never gotten the feeling that either Kate or Sophie are huge 'jewelry' people. Kate loves her earrings and her Mappin and Webb, but she only seems to do bracelets and other necklaces at formal events. So I would say rather than 'dredges' she just picks smaller, more subtle pieces.

Julia, I agree on the Kiki price. I generally like the color and style, but feel like the price tag is high.

    7. Lol Every piece is rather ambitious sg but let's hope we get to see much of what's there. So much of it hasn't been worn for years

Yes, that was brilliant royalfan. I remember my mother saying that Diana brought back the wearing of jewels again and that women were dusting off their pearls, granny's amethysts etc that hadn't seen the light of day for ages.

    8. Very interesting comment, Julia! Thank you. I agree it is probably really heart-warming for William to see on Kate some pieces of jewellery that his mother used to wear.

    9. Katie, I agree; Kate's personal preference is the small Kiki earrings she wore early on. They are lovely, but long hair and being photographed from a distance did them no favors. I often said that she needed larger pieces to balance the look.

    10. Zora. Perhaps on some of Diana's jewelry that she's worn. Perhaps William requested those pieces from the Queen and presented those to Kate himself, like the sapphire earrings, the Diana tiara, the Collingsworth earrings? Maybe not the Hyperabad (sp) necklace or this one. I think the Queen offered those herself during girl time fashion talk with Kate. (I have heard that the Queen loves to talk fashion.) But I can very much see William presenting the other pieces to Kate just like he presented her with Diana's ring.
And I think that he definitely has more of Diana's pieces in mind to present to her in the future.

    11. Zora. "rather ambitious", lol. what a delicate way to put it. :) (have you ever considered a career as a diplomat?) :)

    12. Sorry, that comment was for Erika. (It is early, early morning here and I don't drink coffee. Perhaps I should, lol.)

    13. Sorry, Erika. Absolutely regarding dusting off! And why not? :-)

SG and Zora, I believe that William has a lot to do with Kate wearing jewelry associated with Diana. It honors his mother and keeps her memory from being swept under the royal rugs. (SG, the necklace you mentionedwas chosen by the Queen ahead of W&K's tour down under.)

    14. No problem, surfer girl :) I wouldn't mind a diplomat's career; sadly, no embassy has ever offered to employ me! 😁
Royalfan, I think you are completely right. Jewellery (Br.E.)/jewelry (Am.E.)//😉// can be a powerful thing in terms of memories, as well as mutual bonds.

    15. :-)

Another thought occurred to me about this pearl choker ... if a tiara was not in the cards for the anniversary celebration, we sure got to see another significant piece of jewelry (compared to a bracelet for example that, most likely, would have been hidden from view as they were driven to BP.

    16. That's right, royalfan!

    17. you are right, rf. I think that piece was meant to be seen by any cameras around.

    18. SG & Zora, I really believe it WAS meant to be seen. IMO, the Queen is seeing to it that Kate looks like a Duchess and future Queen.

  31. I am askng this possibly irrelevant question here because I don't know whom else to ask. Who is Prince Philip's tailor, or who put together his lovely coat and trousers for the anniversary photograph? Perfect flannel bags, though the colour reproduces slightly strangely; interesting fabric for the coat; and one button. So suave; so soigné.

  32. I love mohair and think the McQueen coat is gorgeous but I'm a little dismayed to find it paired with the lace gown. It looks like a day coat to me or even a casual coat for the evening but not a formal one. Since the Queen's choker is bringing back memories, does anyone remember Diana's black velvet cape? I was thinking how amazing that would look with this gown.

    1. Kate had a two, new, black coats for the Remembrance Day events on November 10 and 11. The one she wore at the evening event on the 10th was black velvet and could certainly have been worn with this dress.

    2. Same vibe here, Erika. :-)

    3. Thought you might have had the same thought, royalfan:)

Laura, I think the black velvet and crystal buttons of the CW coat would go well with the gown but not as sure about it's cut and design. Not convinced I would like that coat paired with a full length gown. I could be wrong though.

    4. :-)

A nice shawl would have worked too, ladies.

If you think about it this was a door-to-door scenario; I do not believe that she would have worn this coat over a gown for a full length photo situation.

      Delete
    5. Yes! A shawl would have been terrific.

No, I don't think she would have worn the coat outside of the car either royalfan. Im just cringing in my mind's eye.

  34. Someone must be looking at much better pictures of the coat than I am. I find it impossible to tell exactly what the fabric and cut of the coat is from the pictures I see in this post:):). I have seen at least 3 ideas (in various article/blogs) presented as to the coat and they all look like a potential match:).

  35. I have always loved this dress, Kate looks elegant and beautiful in it. I can’t wait to see wait she wears for the royal variety show. I also hope that she repeats the beautiful blue dress she wore while pregnant with George

  36. Wow, the photo of the Queen's wedding day with her lovely bridesmaid's reaching toward her is absolutely magical. Much more so than the dressmaker rushing in as we have seen in recent years. Just what bridesmaids are supposed to do and it makes it all so much more personal and beautiful.

  37. Fun to get a little peek into their family party. She looks beautiful. I had a flitting thought today of what it must be like if every outfit I wore & how I looked got analyzed & critiqued by many people. Ugg...I'd hate that & think most people would. Yet we keep doing it for Duchess Kate. I think it's because she is so lovely & looks fabulous most of the time. I think we should all keep that in mind before we comment though- to think through how we'd feel being critiqued about every detail. It comes with being a public figure these days. I sure would hate it though. Hope she doesn't mind or at least doesn't pay attention if she does.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the US! Enjoy a nice, long weekend enjoying time with those you love or helping serve those in need! & check out the "Mad About Meghan" blog if you haven't recently. Charlotte has done a great job there too!

  38. There is likely is a thousand and one reasons, according to protocol, as to why Meghan couldn't be at the 70th anniversary event. But wouldn't it have been a splendid time for her to meet so many members of the Royal Family?

  40. I forgot to say: thank you, Charlotte, for including the beautiful photos from their wedding day! What a lovely looking couple...the Queen still has the same gorgeous smile & Philip still has that mischievious glint in his eye :) I never appreciated how pretty Elizabeth's wedding gown & veil were till seeing them here again (not bad for ration coupons during the war!).

  41. I love how people gave Elizabeth their ration coupons to put towards the fabric of her gown in a country that almost was no more. Very, very special that the people did that.
