The Duchess of Cambridge was photographed earlier today leaving Waterstones book shop near Kensington Palace. Kate reportedly purchased a selection of history and military-themed children's books. There are several photos on the Mail Online.

'As she carried the Waterstones-themed bag the Duchess was seen opening her own car door as she stepped off the busy pavement amid crowds of people. Kate has a keen interest in the development of young children and could well have been stocking up on books for her own children; Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis.
Prince William recently revealed that his children are fans of Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. It tells the story of a friendly witch who is threatened by a dragon. While on an engagement in South Wales last year, he said of the book: 'I read this to our children all the time.' Ms Donaldson's other popular book, The Gruffalo, is also read in the Cambridge household.'
Kate and William returned from a three-day trip to the Republic of Ireland on Thursday after spending time in Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Galway where they received gifts and letters for the children from well-wishers and Ireland's deputy leader Simon Coveney's three daughters. They shared a glimpse of a handful on Instagram. One reads: "Charlotte I really loved meeting your mommy and daddy." :)
To mark the end of the tour, they shared a lovely photo from their cliff side walk in Howth. "Go raibh míle maith agaibh, a chairde go léir in Éirinn! Thank you to all the wonderful people we met in Ireland!"
Kate's effortlessly stylish off-duty look included her Mulberry Paddington coat which she's had since 2015. The Duchess publicly wore it in 2016 for visits to HMP Eastwood Park and the Nelson Trust Women's Centre.

We'll see the Cambridges on Monday afternoon for the Commonwealth Day service. That evening, Kate will host a reception at Buckingham Palace in celebration of Place2Be’s 25th anniversary.
Love to see casual Kate again!! Her private style says so much about her. I noticed, that she often wears jeans that are a little "lighter" at the knee section! Love it :D You can imagine her playing with the kids...

She looked a bit uncomfortable but of course knew she would be photographed and she must have wanted to "get out and about" instead of ordering online. :) I don't think everyone appreciates how nice it is to roam around without a bodyguard or cameras, and I have a lot of sympathy for the RF in that aspect.

I was thinking the other day that we very rarely see pictures of Kate our and about. I wondered if she was doing it less or if she just wasn’t seen/photographed. I know she probably hates it, but I love seeing her going about her business occasionally. I would not want her to be harassed like Diana was by the paparazzi, but almost every person has a phone now it could be any one taking it.

ReplyDeleteI love casual Kate, I think this outfit would work for official work as well. I have a new interest in Kate after this week. I was really impressed by her. I felt she made a huge effort to be approachable and gracious. The fashion was not the main focus for once, I thought there was a lot of green and If I’m picky, I would have loved if she had worn some Irish fashion . The only nod to it was the Dubarry jacket . But, I loved the tour and it actually cheered me up with so much doom and gloom around at the moment.The time at the GAA club in Galway was wonderful, I spend half my week bringing my kids to GAA training and matches at our local club so to see the future king and Queen trying to play our national sports was joyful. I have a question that someone might be able to answer? Where does Kate change her outfits on the road trips during the tour? She had several outfit changes each day. Does she change in the car? Maybe stop in a hotel? The logistics of traveling around on the tour would not have allowed her to get back to where they stayed to change. In Galway, the drove a very short distance to the GAA club but she had a totally different outfit. Sinead
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great example how Kate uses clothes to distinguish the role in which is. Everytime we see her out in a private every day capacity she looks refreshingly normal. I always thought that in the beginning she and Wiliam made a point to establish "work uniforms" and I also detected in in their children. It is a great way to set boundaries and help the children to know what is expected from them.
ReplyDeleteIt has only been in the last year or so, that Kate shows us more relatable and normal (modern professional) looks that you see with young women everywhere. Those looks are more similar to her private style. Like many, I feel Kate has relaxed and successfully carved out her role, so she might feel comfortable to blurr the harsh line. It will be interesting to see if that is also true for engagements with the children. The visible difference seemed like a great way to guide them because it is easy to notice.
I actually think that many royals are out and about a lot without being noticed. There have been tons of examples over the years. If they don't want to be noticed they have the tools and recources to achieve this. But isn't it fantatsic that Kate feels, this is something she can still do and seems to be ok (probably not happy but also not frightended) with being noticed. People love it when royals find a great balance between grace, pomp and dignity (and dazzling jewellery, uniforms and gorgeaus dresses) and being relatable, warm and open.
I sincerely hope Wiliam and Kate will find a way to establish a change in how the BRF will connect to the people in the UK - because their are the ones that decide to keep them and pay for them. My guess is that Charles will pave the way to establish a smaller BRF which will pull lower numbers but also will cost less (this is part is obviously the selling point) and it will be up to Wiliam and Kate to win the public over emotionally for the next decades. It would be a smart division of work. Sadly, there lots of people, which will never come around with Charles and especially Camilla. It seems unfair to me, but that is life.
