A Star-Studded Coronation Concert

It was a celebratory night at Windsor Castle for the star-studded Coronation concert.

The Prince and Princess of Wales brought George and Charlotte for the night. Sadly, Louis was not with them :)

There's been a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day with Coronation Big Lunches and street parties taking place all over the United Kingdom. Buckingham Palace released a statement confirming the King and Queen were "deeply touched" by the warmth and good wishes received. A Palace spokesman said: "Their Majesties were deeply touched by the events of yesterday and profoundly grateful both to all those who helped to make it such a glorious occasion - and to the very many who turned out to show their support in such numbers in London and further afield."

Prince William delivered a heartfelt speech in which he paid tribute to his "Pa" and the late Queen saying, "I know my grandmother is up there fondly keeping an eye on us," and she would be a very "proud mother".

Praising his father's decades of work, William said: "For all that celebrations are magnificent, at the heart of the pageantry is a simple message. Service. My father's first words on entering Westminster Abbey yesterday were a pledge of service. It was a pledge to continue to serve. Because for over 50 years, in every corner of the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others, both current and future generations, and those whose memory must not be neglected.

"Because for over 50 years, in every corner of the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world, he has dedicated himself to serve others, both current and future generations, and those whose memory must not be neglected. Take the natural world. He warned us of the risks to our planet's health long before it was an everyday issue. Or the Prince's Trust. It has supported over a million young people, many from disadvantaged backgrounds, to realise their ambitions. And, perhaps most importantly of all, my father has always understood that people of all faiths, all backgrounds, and all communities, deserve to be celebrated and supported."

"Pa, we are all so proud of you. I also want to express my pride and gratitude for the millions of people who serve, in the forces, in classrooms, hospital wards and local communities. I wish I could mention you all. Your service inspires us. And tonight we celebrate you too. I commit myself to serve you all. King, country and Commonwealth. God save the King!"

Incredible work from the drones.

As of publishing, most of the concert is available on YouTube here.

It was a truly magnificent display. Another outstanding job with full credit to the BBC.

A great wrap up from Kensington Palace.

The Princess repeated her red Alexander McQueen suit, debuted for a Shaping Us event earlier this year.

You'll notice a thread of red, blue and white across the Wales family's sartorial choices throughout the weekend -- in homage to the colours of the United Kingdom.

Kate sported McQueen's Leaf Crepe Drop Hem blazer. The piece is finished with a single button fastening. The blazer is teamed with McQueen's Narrow Bootcut Trousers, which feature side pockets and a back jet pocket. The sharply tailored look is available at My Theresa.

The Princess accessorised with her Van Cleef & Arpels jewellery tonight. The Magic Alhambra earrings retail for £5,400. The collection is described: "Created in 2006 by Van Cleef & Arpels, the Magic Alhambra jewelry creations gather different-sized Alhambra motifs, coming together in a joyful dance. Inspired by the clover leaf, their asymmetric designs feature different associations of materials."

The matching necklace in yellow gold and mother of pearl.

Below, the Princess wearing the jewels for a glamorous black-tie reception hosted by the Governor-General at Baha Mar Beach Resort with her beautiful sweeping Phillipa Lepley gown.

If you're just stopping by, click here to catch up on the Coronation Big Lunch. The Princess chose the stylish Reiss Hollie blazer for the Long Walk outing.

We were expecting Coronation portraits, but it now looks like they will be released tomorrow. We also expect to see the Prince and Princess participate in The Big Help Out!

  3. Charlotte, I was so surprised to find the full coverage was on PBS, over here across the pond. It was so wonderful to watch, that I forgot to record it until 1/2 way through! lol

It was just such a once in a lifetime event & such a wonderful tribute to Charles, Charles & Camilla & to their ethos of Service! I found myself tearing up several times. I loved the "did you know" segments, about Charles & his many talents. His paintings were wonderful!

I absolutely lost it during the duet of "You'll Never Walk Alone".... It was so touching to know that it was a specific request from Charles & Camilla. It is a very special song in our family too.

I was extremely moved & in awe at the collaborative performance of all the Royal Arts... The Royal Ballet etc.... It was so breathtaking & I think it was just a natural for them to all come together & collaborate on this & wouldn't it be great if they were to do a collaboration in the future!? I'm sure it was no small feat to bring it all together! It dawned on me, that Charles & Camilla have a bit of a "Romeo & Juliet" story too.... when you think how they fell in love so young & life tried to keep them apart... only for them to be here as King & Queen Consort today!

I will hesitantly add this..... When Katy Perry was performing (wasn't Princess Charlotte so cute singing along) but I couldn't help think, with irony & sadness that Katy was there, but her neighbors Harry, Meghan & Family were not.... At the core this family does all believe in "Service".... I couldn't help myself from reflecting on.... "What if".... Which leads nowhere.... but I do allow myself to wish for them, the ability to find healing as a family.

Charlotte, thank you for your Amazing coverage all throughout this historic celebration (& it isn't even finished!!!)! You truly are one in a million!! xoxo

Becca, your point is well taken about healing. Unfortunately, I don't think healing is needed as much as a complete change of the family dynamics. I don't know of a point in time that they could go back to and be happy. The public, we, were happy when Harry played the clown and was the third member. But we know now how unhappy he was. I fear that as long as Meghan is popular there cannot be a rejoining.
William's children will grow up with the children in Kate's family, Harry's children will grow up with the children of Harry's and Meghan's friends (and those of Eugenie). As long as the vile stories come out, and even Kate took a beating before the coronation, there cannot be a complete reconciliation, in my view.
And I agree that this was more of a UK celebration -- the idea of a divine leader is not sustainable but country pride is.

    4. Once again. You've only listened to one version of the story. A version that changes depending on the interview.

    5. Agree with you completely Anon 20:46. One side of the story. I'm kind of tired of it being brought up on this blog to be honest.

  4. Congratulations King Charles III
To be of service in the example of Christ – the spirit of the Westminster Coronation ceremony.
In this King’s case: to defend all faiths – very interesting! God created all mankind in his image, and he loves mankind, and the rest is a matter of rules, right, wrong, what one is brought to believe, and much more for all faiths including the faith he is supposed to defend.
Best wishes to the King, for service under God, peace, justice, good health, and happiness!
Thank you, Charlotte, for keeping up with your outstanding blogs and posting what matters in all its varieties. The Coronation Concert is jubilantly fun!

  5. What a fun evening! Glad the weather was good tonight. The princess looks so beautiful in this hip, red suit! I'd like that suit myself! Thanks again, Charlotte, for a super in-depth post. Really fun few days!

  8. What a night! What a concert! I watched the whole thing on you tube and let me tell you my husband and me had a great time.Moving, uplifting and so respectful to all King Charles encompasses. Williams speech was marvelous and Catherine and Charlotte were beaming with pride.

  9. Thanks for your coverage Charlotte. I watched the whole thing on PBS here in Canada. The speech that Prince William did for his dad was quite moving. You can see Charles was touched. I was sad that Harry wasn't there to also deliver a tribute as in the past he sure would of. The concert was very nice when Bocelli was singing you can see Charles was the most moved. I liked seeing Peter Phillips's daughter Savannah dancing and Princess Sophie dancing they were both cute. I was amazed by the drones!! I don't understand how they did it ! it was incredible such artistry! Zara looks fab in green too!

  11. Once again, to all the people saying Charles was not liked and nobody cared, now what!??? The cheers from the crowd when they arrived, the amount of people during the weekend everywhere, the TV audience...

William's speech was terrific. And so nice to see Charles moved and Kate's reaction to his words, 20 years after and still acting like a girl with a crush.

  12. The line up was not exactly my taste BUT people seemed to be having a blast.
I didn't like the red suit the first time around but yesterday it looked amazing. The bigger necklace and the big curles in front balanced it out. Last time the suit kind of overwhelmed her visually. This time it looked great. It is funny, because I am also not a big fan of the Alhambra jewellery but in this outfit the set looked really good.

Windsor Castle was the star tonight - didn't it look magnificent in that sunset with all lit up crowd in front? Stunning.
I shamelessly danced along with Lionel Richie! What a performer. The energy from this concert came through the screen.
Thank you for your coverage of the coronation, Charlotte. A mammoth undertaking which we all appreciate.

  14. I loved this outfit and the jewellery. And Charlotte looked adorable. She was so cute when she was singing along to Katy Perry. I thought holding the concert at Windsor was inspired, it was a fantastic location and I loved seeing the castle. I know lots of major singers/bands turned this down (it was scheduled at short notice compared to most big events and performing for royalty is often considered to be equivalent to supporting the establishment) so I think it was a pretty decent line up despite that and I liked the way the concert was structured and varied and also much more personal to Charles than the jubilee concerts were to the late Queen. Great job from the organisers!

    1. Well Ed Sheeran just confirmed he didn't turn out anything but wasn't invited. So maybe all snubs reported by the media were not snubs but performers that never were asked to come to Windsor.

    2. That's my understanding too. They wanted to do a different concert than the jubilee one. Also it reflected King's Charles tastes, he is very knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to see all those different kind of artists together. IMO those were very high quality performances.

  15. Oh, and Prince William's speech was excellent. He's a natural!

  16. You know..... Charlotte, I was struck this morning by the contrast between celebrating The Queen @ The Jubilee & Charles for his Coronation! This is not a judgement, more of an observation.

With all the celebrations "for" The Queen over the years, it always was about celebrating her & her service to the nation. It dawned on me, that what felt different this weekend, was that it was more about celebrating all of the UK & all that unites them, with regards to people's sense of Service & Community, with Charles leading the charge..... The tone was really set at his Coronation! It seemed like a lot to undertake, but I think he hit it right on the head & has truly set the tone for his reign! What do you all & Charlotte think?

God Bless King Charles III !!

    1. Spot on, Becca! 😍👍 I think you're right. The shift is definitely there. It was done subtly and very well. Not that Her Late Majesty didn't celebrate and support communities and service - of course she did, but during her reign she gradually came closer to the people (with a great help of Prince Philip). The community feeling is something that can be built on for years to come and that is very close to William's and Kate' s hearts, I believe. Zora from Prague

    3. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one, who was caught by that nuance. These are just different times & a different generation of Monarch.

It's interesting... all of Charles years, spent among the people as Prince of Wales, has appeared to lend him to be a different kind of Monarch. Instead of letting The Firm say, "I think this is how it (anything) should be done".... Charles is more like, "Well done you & how can I help?" I think it will be less of a stark change when it's William's time.

However, this does seem to answer that big question.... "What is the purpose of The Monarchy?" It is to be of "Service" to the people of the UK. xoxo

My favorite part was the Arts collaboration for Romeo and Juliet, especially the ballet performance side by side with the excerpt from the play. Beautiful! What a great weekend, now to catch up on some sleep, I stayed up 24 hours from Friday morning to Saturday morning, and although I’ve had some sleep Saturday night and Sunday night am still feeling woozy.

  19. Loved the inter arts collaboration. Best part of the concert for me.

When Katy Perry was singing Dark Horse, I thought "why not Firework"? Then she did sing the song. But I was startled that the lyrics were not adjusted, just that little bit. Isn't it weird to sing "light up the sky like the 4th of July" that refers to the American rebellion for independence from the Crown; freedom from the prior King Charles?
