Elegant Kate in Jade Temperley London for Lunch with Prime Minister Modi & A Warm Welcome in Assam

For their final engagement in Delhi, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended a luncheon with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Prime Minister received the royals at Hyderabad House where they posed for official photos.

Many will recall the Prime Minister paid a visit to the UK last November, where Her Majesty hosted a luncheon in his honour at Buckingham Palace. It was a nice opportunity for him to personally welcome the Queen's grandson and his wife today.

Ahead of the luncheon, external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup said that "engagement with the British Royal family was an integral component of India-Britain relations. The visit of the Duke and Duchess was "reflective of the high-level engagement between India and UK and demonstrates the accelerated momentum of the relationship after the Prime Minister's very successful visit to the United Kingdom in November 2015".

A look at Hyderabad House.

Actor and teacher Anupam Kher shared a photo of the invitation via Twitter.

William and Kate met with women's rights advocates to hear about a range of issues affecting girls in the country. The meeting was convened at William's personal request because he wanted to hear directly from women who work to support other females. He also wanted to get a sense of the work being done to help young women achieve their full potential and for men to become more supportive of the women and girls in their lives.

More from the official press release:

'Their Royal Highnesses met acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and heard about her inspirational campaign ‘Stop Acid Attacks’. Laxmi was attacked at 15 by a 32 year old man after she rejected his marriage proposal. She explained her decision to stop covering her face in order to encourage other victims not to hide and also spoke of her successful fight for tougher legal restrictions on the sale of acid. The Duke thanked her for her bravery. Laxmi is now a TV host, and director of the Chhanve Foundation, a NGO dedicated to help survivors of acid attacks in India.'

William and Kate met survivors of abuse, and with journalist Soumya Menon who spoke about the role of the media. She explained that the media can help women to tell their own stories and shine a light on the unique circumstances faced by individual women. She discussed her strong belief in continuing support and empowerment for women who are brave enough to speak up. William and Kate heard about a range of initiatives provided through organisations and government programmes.

From there, William and Kate took a flight to Assam where they received an incredibly warm ceremonial welcome upon arrival. Surrounded by the beat of drums and traditional Assamese dancers, the royals were greeted by the chief minister of Assam state, Tarun Gogoi, and his wife, Dolly, who presented them with 'gamochas' – or traditional hand-woven scarves – which are reserved for special guests in Assamese culture. Kensington Palace tweeted: "Wow, what a welcome."

The couple's staff were photographed carrying luggage. Below we see Kate's hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker and assistant Natasha Archer. Many will notice Natasha is carrying the Longchamp Le Pliage bag in green; Kate's had one in navy for years.

The Duchess looked elegant in the jade Temperley London Desdemona dress from the Autumn 2016 Collection.

The lace dress is crafted into an ultra-feminine silhouette from beautiful jade vintage-inspired lace reminiscent of traditional Spanish folk costume. The £795 dress is available for pre-order on the Temperley London website (with thanks to Kate's Closet).

More from the product description:

'With a high mock neck, fitted waist and fluted midi hem accentuated with cotton voile pleats, this lace dress exudes the alluring bohemian vibe that runs through the collection.'

The dress also comes in white. It's available for pre-order at Moda Operandi.

Anna identified Kate's earrings as a pair by her go-to jeweller Kiki McDonough. The brand described the earrings as "Special Edition Green Tourmaline, Green Amethyst and Diamond Earrings". They were specially made to celebrate the birth of Princess Charlotte last May.

What contrasts a trip like this have! First, sitting on the floor with streetkids, next, dressing up to your nines and having dinner with the prime minister. A tour like this must be an emotional rollercoaster!

A very tricky colour but I think she carries it off well. I like the dress silouette. A very dignified look without looking stuffy. And the lace is very delicate. Also, perfect occation for the updo :) Her updo seems mildly different. I like it!

    1. Rebecca, so well said! Emotional rollercoaster for sure! I doubt they regret packing so much in such a short time so as to het back to G&C but can you imagine how exhausted they will be afterwards?

If I counted correctly they'll take 6 flights in 7 days!

    2. Agreed! These sort of bright pastel-ish colors often make me look sickly, but she looks fabulous. I've also enjoyed seeing her in some longer skirt lengths--not because I'm one to complain about her skirts being too short, but just because it's fun to see some variety, and she can wear longer skirts well without looking stumpy!

The Telegraph site (I think) had a back view and her hair was very elaborately put up. It must have taken a while to do so a hairdresser was definitely needed on this trip. Loved the green dress and I don't think it flattens her bust as she is naturally quite lean. I understand she swims a lot when at Kensington Palace and she is obviously very fit so that will ensure she doesn't put on a lot of weight (as well as eating lots of vegetables and not too much meat.)She is a good role model for this.

    Loved the two outfits today.
I especially liked the jade Temperley. Really lovely and appropriate. IMO, all was perfect : jewelry, shoes, clutch...
I just wish the Duchess would slowly start to feel more at ease in these occasions and learn to hold her clutch in one hand, leaving the arms straight. The way she always holds her hands in front of her as a shield is unbecoming. I can understand it, but it is a pity someone doesn't try and rectify that.

  14. Love this look!! From the hair to the dress, all the way to the shoes. While I was expecting something more Indian-ish like a salwar kameez or churidar suit for the lunch, I have to say this look hasn't disappointed. Although, maybe it's just me but I think the dress gives her a bit of a flat chested look. Nonetheless, I love the colour of the dress and the way it makes her glow. Also, I think the new Kiki earrings are gorgeous :-) Ash (India)

It looks like the inner lining is longer than the one on the model to have a more modest look, without completely changing the fun bohemian chic look.

Kates choices have been on point this trip. Fun, yet regal and the detailing is a nod to Indian design. Yet the looks stay true to Kate's style; one she has been comfortable with for a long time. The outfits blend Britain and Indian fashion sensibilities - and isn't this trip all about the two nations working together? Kate is definitely channeling this with her tour fashion

    1. I thought the same thing regarding the lining, but the more recent pictures seem to show that the lining is indeed above-knee length. I quite like the dress either way, though.

So glad she wore an updo, what I would have liked last night at the garden/birthday party, but this seems to have been a more formal occasion, perhaps?
I would`ve worn black or white shoes (would`ve perhaps stood out more), and a black/white clutch, but she does like her nude heels! (And I do like that clutch:).
Overall, an awesome look for the Duchess. Looking forward to the park! That should be an interesting engagement.:)

  25. Charlotte! Amazing! I woke up hoping for one post before dragging myself out of bed and got two instead! I am hoping I am not in the minority but I love this dress. The color, the lace, and the neckline was not high or ruffled(not a look I love-this neckline was just right). There were some sparkles and the hair pulled back and more formal was a good contrast to the waves of her more playful events.

And who doesn't like/love a woman who just sits on the floor and colors with kids, probably like she would with her kids?!

The Duchess' wardrobe selections for this trip have been so event-appropriate and varied. I love the colour, pattern and textile variations she has been exploring. Today's dress is really beautiful and perhaps captures my attention because of the particular colour. It looks very vibrant. The Dutchess' range of inexpensive to highly elegant dresses makes it exciting to see what will be showcased next.

Thank you for the time and effort you are putting into covering this trip, and for the effort you put into this blog in general! Fantastic!

Personally I liked best the photo towards the end of this section with the two young girls standing very close to them. I had wondered why there were no girls at the railway station rescue NGO so it was great to see that this second NGO was being included. Such an important issue! I thought Kate looked quite thoughtful after this meeting. It must have been a sobering experience for them today. I'd be emotionally exhausted if it was me so the National Park will give them a chance to recharge. And then Bhutan whose main goal is fostering happiness! Whoever put this itinerary together was a genius.

  31. Also, I feel the urge to make a few more comments:

-Charlotte, it is more than a pleasure visiting your informative, fantastic blog. I do it on daily basis even though I barely comment. Your work is truly splendid. Thank you!
-When it comes to this tour so far, I have to say I was looking forward to it like a child! And it really is great fun seeing her in so many different outfits several times a day, representing her country in the most stunning of surroundings this immense, interesting state can offer. Even so, I wasn't really blown away by some of her choices even though I am glad she is experimenting and giving nods left and right to India.
-The first red dress was just to busy for my taste. I understand the beautiful print and lovely colour but that peplum and skirt were just off.
-Her cricket dress was stunning, in my humble opinion, perfect for the occasion! The way iz moved in the wind was just very flattering.
-The blue gala dress was of course really nice, but a tad bit to matronly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting she should go for the slits and decolletage like crazy, but it is just something you can expect seeing on an elderly wedding guest.
-When it comes to white/cream Emilia she wore yesterday I thought it to be splendid! Ok, the pokets were a little strange, but the lenght and texture... Divine! Here I just have to make a point about something that bothers me (aside from general, real life troubles, haha). Her hair! She is such a beautiful woman, but I miss her longer hair immensely! I cannot get over this haircut, and I fell every outfit would look ten times better with her former style.
-I loved the top of yesterday's Temperley combo, skirt not so much.
-Todays boho dress is really nice and appropiate.
-And here is the clear winner in my books: mint dress she wore to meet the Prime Minister! Just fabulous! The cut, the colour, I Can't stop looking at it.

That would be it! I just had to get it out there! I apologize for errors, English off course isn't my first language. Lots of greetings form Serbia to everyone reading!

  37. This outfit is simply stunning, I love the colour, the fit, the length... how beautiful and elegant does she look?? I also loved her maxi dress from earlier today but what I loved the most was the look on those kids faces! I've said it before and il say it again, William and Catherine bring so much of happiness and excitement to kids whenever they are interacting with them and its evident in their faces. Priceless moments.

I noticed that Kate was wearing a red tika (dot) on her forehead again today and the other day I explained that its worn to show that a woman is married but there is a widely-spread joke about it amongst Indian women and I thought I would share it... they say that the red dot also represents a recording device so from the wedding day, the wife will be recording everything the husband says and does :)

    5. The best option with a smaller chest on this kind of dress would have been to sew the cups into the lining. Sometimes you can't tell that until you've worn it around and everything settles into place though. I know from plenty of personal experience.

    6. The strapless bra didn't work, if she was wearing one. Why do I think that you can help people and still dress properly?

To me, this visit wasn't about the clothes but about highlighting things that India is grappling with (vulnerable children, women) and how they are dealing with it. And showing that they care. There was a comment from a guest at the Garden Party yesterday--"some of the Royals come off as stiff, but these two are caring and warm." Modern royalty indeed!

    3. I think so too.
My guess with this particular dress (and with other expensive couture dresses) is there are foundation garments built right into the dress that are meant to take the place of a bra so a bra strap doesn't show thru the lace top part of the dress and to prevent the possibility of separate foundation garments creating odd lines or lumps or bumps in the garment. They're sewn in to make the garment fit like the designer intended.
The built-in foundations (which are the reason that we never see a lump or a bump on the red carpet)smooth and create a perfect "line" for the dress or gown. Unfortunately, they can also have the effect that happened here - without a bra to support the bust, it can end up sagging and flattened and not at all flattering to someone who has even a small bustline like Kate.
The dress itself is pretty and Kate looks okay in it but that situation with the bustline kind of ruins it, for me at least.

    2. Thx Paola:) for what it's worth, I believe that Kate would blow away in a good wind, let alone her dress. I imagine they are doing their best to work within the fact that she does prefer wide or flared out skirts & dresses.

      Delete
    3. I was talking to Pauline last night and imagining Carole Middleton's response:

CM (on the telephone to Emilia Wickstead immediately): ". . . and the weights that you promised were going to work obviously did NOT do the job. How can you explain that?"
      EW: "Uhhhhh. . . ."
CM: "And that test with the flimsy hair dryer! You simply must install a wind tunnel in your workshop immediately."

    4. Thanks Paola. I think its the media that keeps the focus on it because really, what else do they have to use against her on this tour?

      Delete
    5. For some reason I don't want kate to start putting weights in her dresses. This particular instance for example I felt everyone was just over reacting. It wasn't even as bad as when she was exiting the plane on the Australia tour with George.

      Delete
    6. My question is why do the press/papers keep on publishing her dress blowing up? I'm sure it's happened to the royals including the Queen, but wouldn't have been published - out of respect! Leave Catherine alone!

    7. she could wear a slip, a straight slip, even under a flared skirt. I have done that many times.

    9. They were presenting a wreath, not just walking down the street and she chose an extremely full skirt when it was windy. It took away from the ceremony.

And, yes, it's happened to everyone. I remember a shot of Sarah Ferguson's bum on her honeymoon when her skirt blew up. I remember shots of the Queen and Camilla. The difference between them and Kate is it usually happens just once to everyone else.

    10. That is the point Bluhare. Nicely said.

    11. I think either a straight skirt for those type of outings or a pretty straight slip would be okay.

  55. Dear Charlotte, thank you for your hard work. It's really amazing, how quick you post all those news about Royal Tour. And there are so many beautiful photos, descriptions full of details. For me it's a great pleasure to know, how my favourite young royals take care of kids in need, seems to be very important for them, although they can only stick to their daily plan and visit historical places and important people. I think our girl Catherine is a great role model for young women, because not only she represents her country and supports her husband, she also can treat other people with respect and kindness, she easily wears gown like a Real Princess, and yet she can play with children on the floor. I'm sorry for my English and mistakes I made, I hope I could express my thoughts clearly and no one would feel offended. That's my first comment here, but I read your blog from the beggining. I've read about meeting with those brave women and felt very proud that William and Catherine wanted to meet them and showed their support. I think it was very important and we can see their compassion and true care. It could inspire other people to help Indian children and women in need.

  56. I am so excited to see that the Duke and Duchess have added a visit and sit-down related to women's rights in India, I think it's a super important issue to raise awareness about. I think this shows a good understanding of the current situation and will hopefully foster more development in that area for the country.

On to Duchess Kate. Firstly, I love seeing her in a bright color, but something seemed off here. I couldn't put my finger on it. I wonder if the hair was too tight, the neckline too high, if there were too many details on the outfit (neckline, lace, color, pleats, etc.). I think the white version of this dress might have been better suited for the affair...and I hate myself for suggesting less color!
Still, creams are often suggested for Brunette's with Kate's skin tone. If her hair was it's original color it might have suited her more.

Loving this royal tour! Thanks for all the great posts! Can't wait to see what's next...a casual look perhaps!

  62. IMHO, today is the best she's ever looked. Both this ensemble and the earlier casual maxi-dress look were spot-on in terms of appropriateness for context. Both hairstyles were terrific -- especially appreciated that she had the front of her hair twisted back prettily so she didn't have to mess with her hair while playing with the children. I couldn't be more pleased and impressed.

  63. Perhaps the street children are mostly boys? And hopefully there are separate facilities for girls?

This deep aqua lace dress is the sort of look I expected last night, and it is beautiful. I wonder whether wearing Desdemona to discuss womn's battery and support was deliberate! I love the color and agree about the bra. William wore the grey tie he should have worn with Kate's gown last night. I wonder if his tie labeling got jumbled.

The long dress for the children's shelter surprised me, but it was perfect for sitting on the floor. It is the sort of garment one sees in pictures of pioneer women in the US. i thought the edging and matching belt were navy blue rather than black.

Thank you, Charlotte, for your rapid and breautiful reports! Anyone who cares about W&K is seeking you out rather than reading the DM. Now our couple get to go to the national park and hopefully see wonderful animals. I wondered whether William would stop in at a meeting in India of Asian nations seeking to raise their tiger populations, but there has been no mntion of that.

You nailed it with that question. William shade some light on the issues of women today. This facility seems to be for boys. There is a balance of genders as far as taking causes today, but it must be rough to be young girls and on the street.

  64. I was so touched to read that William especially wanted to meet with the women to learn more about what is being done & what can still be done to improve the way women are treated by men in their lives. It just struck me as a reflexion of the values & activism that Diana instilled in him. It is just the sort of meeting I believe that Diana would have had. She really did such a good job raising her sons to be compassionate & to understand the vital importance of them using their position to bring about positive changes in peoples' lives, especially women & children.

  65. A lovely look Kate. So happy to see them meeting with the children and then the women. Such an amazing opportunity to shine a light on important issues. And for your sleepless hard work! the women's issues and the earlier visit to the vulnerable children were occasions for very serious reflection. I loved that William asked, "What can we do?" when the best answer for him and Kate personally was that they were standing right there, present and interested.

The clothing choices today were spot on. I love this lace dress--it is very beautiful. The earrings are splendid.

  69. Kate has been wearing a lot of midi-skirts since Christmas. I usually don't care for the silhouette on her; I think something about the lines and her having no hips? However I love this dress. The lace is gorgeous, the color is different and pretty, and in most of the pictures I don't even mind the silhouette. The whole look is just elegant and classic and feminine. 70. I've only commented once before but I follow every day with my morning coffee :) You do a wonderful job and I enjoy it so much! Obviously I love Kate's style or I wouldn't read it, but am I the only one who thinks there's something wrong with the tailoring of her clothes? In the past few years they seem to be too tailored, like they're shrink-wrapped onto her instead of draping elegantly. She has a lovely physique with broad shoulders and a small waist so clothes would fall naturally and beautifully on her. I just feel that they should be a bit looser and more 'flow-y', as my daughter says. I had to get that off my chest as it's been bothering me. Otherwise, her choices have been perfect for every occasion. I just think she needs a new tailor ;)

    ReplyDelete

    1. I completely agree! It seems as if it's been forgotten that great tailoring doesn't mean that everything needs to fit skin-tight. I love her and her clothes, but I definitely agree that some of her outfits would look better if there were a little more room to breathe!

  71. Another spot on choice today. Kate picked an exceptional dress for the meeting with the PM. She oozes elegance, grace, and looks like a royal princess here. Love the new earrings that she debuted and so glad she saved them for this meeting. They are stunning.

  72. I love this dress and the earlier red one. Absolutely splendid. She looks perfect. The jade one could do with better bust support though. The red one is so beautiful and she looks so so ravishing in red I wish she wore more of it. I am slightly disappointed that Kate won't venture out of her comfort zone too much and wear a proper Indian designer. She would carry it off with aplomb !

I would like to also thank Charlotte for removing the very offensive comments left on earlier threads about India's poverty, which were not only sweeping generalizations, borderline racist (as Maggie and bluhare pointed out) but factually incorrect. I was extremely upset last night and wrote an angry post to Charlotte blaming her for bad moderation. In retrospect it was wrong of me to be that upset at Charlotte. I understand it must be very challenging to be up constantly updating posts and moderating hundreds of comments continually - so please accept my apologies for blaming you Charlotte. The semi-racist comments were removed promptly and I do appreciate your understanding where I came from. I read your post and I was due to sleep last night. The comment sort of made me thinking and I realized how up set you were. I said, there is tomorrow, and now, I have to sleep. Once in bed, I could not. I felt your anger, I came back to the blog some time later, but the comment was not there. It is your choice to part, or return to this blog, but I am so glad you posted again.

What I wanted to tell you was that you don't make your case by leaving, but by setting the record straight to the people who have the tendency to generalize, assume, be biased, make uninformed comments and so on. I think human beings can be good with exceptional cases; it is “misleading” conditioning and “affected” environment that can be the enemy. Life goes on and it is a lesson every day.

Regarding your comment about Charlotte posting some aggravating comments, this was what I wanted to tell you. In general the purpose of ethical freedom of expression brings out all kinds of opinions, and some matters crystallize after some agreeable and opposite opinions are discussed. In the meantime the ones that can be upsetting at times are not worth it; defeat the purpose of being a part of the blog.

It must have taken a certain freedom of flexibility and choice from your side to post today and explain. It makes my day.

  76. OMG - this look is a home run in my book. I know many on this blog won't like it because it has a high neck but I feel Kate has pulled off this look with aplomb. It's a great color and in front of the India flag looks very complimentary.

Glad that Will and Kate are also addressing women's issues. I agree with other posters, they are going to be exhausted when they get home. I am recalling some comments last month about Kate not doing enough engagements but watching this royal tour unfold does seem quite over whelming with everything that is involved.

The dress, with those beautiful earrings and the shoes - hair up, etc. She is really a vision and has not lost her smile.

    1. What is even impressing is the request for the meeting to hear it from the women, came from a man, Prince William. I thought of Diana when I first read it, the fact that he is openly comfortable in highlighting women's issues this way.

I can't imagine a man throwing acid on a woman because he can't have her. Some of the world's culture, the men can be, if I can't have you nobody should. That mentality also contributes to damaging the woman's beauty, reputation and anything else that can create obstacle.

Not my favorite look of the tour but very appropriate all-around for a luncheon with the PM.
Kudos to them both for their first foray into any kind of controversial issue - that is of the acid attacks on young girls, the issue of forced marriage of young girls and the blind eye that many cultures and countries turn toward this kind of violence, including either blaming and/or charging the girls instead of their attackers or ignoring the crimes altogether.

The vertical strips of lace on the chest and the horizontal ones above and below the bust, I could do without as they add an element of fussiness to the delicate dress.

I have to say that I'm not liking her updos so far. They seem rather convoluted and complicated. Would much rather something more sleek and chic.
