The Rugby Portobello Trust in North Kensington is part of a network of centres that help local communities, and provide support by running programmes for children and parents such as homework clubs, sporting activities, social groups and tuition. RPT works with local young people to help them overcome disadvantages by providing a positive alternative to a life of crime, deprivation and social exclusion.

The Duchess joined the Christmas party for the 'Magic Mums' group which supports mothers, babies and toddlers.

'The Rugby Portobello Trust (RPT) is the result of the merger in 2003 of three organisations: The Rugby Clubs, The Portobello Houseshare and The Portobello Trust which were providing a range of services to young people in a disadvantaged area of West London. Each of the three services was different: The Rugby Clubs was a youth club, The Portobello Trust provided education and training for young people and Portobello Houseshare provided housing. By joining up the three services a one stop shop was set up for young people in one of the most deprived parts of London.
We are based in Walmer Road, North Kensington at the heart of an area blighted by very high social deprivation and unemployment not only in comparison to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and other London boroughs, but to anywhere in the United Kingdom. Consequently there are much higher than average levels of burglary, street crimes and violent attacks as well as drug and alcohol abuse.'
Providing community support is a key area of focus for the Trust. When the Grenfell Tower disaster occurred, they were on hand playing a pivotal role in the aftermath. They quickly established a New Homes Team to support residents into their new accommodation and to help them access the various grants that became available, both through the local authority and from private donations. The team also coordinated the distribution of IT equipment donated by Apple, Google, Fujitsu, Talk Talk and others to help families affected re-connect with loved ones and access their personal accounts, as well as essentials donated by various businesses. The team are determined to continue their efforts in aid of families affected by the tragedy vowing to continue working until "residents have been offered, and have accepted, permanent accommodation and have successfully re-settled and have received all support necessary to move-on.".
I suspect the Trust's work with Grenfell was one of the primary reasons for today's engagement. Grenfell is located about ten minutes from Kensington Palace. Kate met with families privately.

Kate said to him: “Did you see it effect everyone, your family, your community?”
She added about the tower block: “It’s still such a physical presence as well.”
It was also an opportunity for Kate to get into the seasonal spirit as she helped staff and volunteers set up for their children's Christmas party later in the day.

Kate brought back one of her most popular maternity pieces today; the Seraphine Marina Maternity Coat she debuted during a trip to New York in 2014 when she was expecting Princess Charlotte.

Also today, Kensington Palace released the dates of William and Kate's royal visit to Norway and Sweden. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Sweden and Norway from Tuesday 30th January to Friday 2nd February 2018 at the request of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. TOUR OUTLINE Tuesday 30th January: Stockholm, Sweden Wednesday 31st January: Stockholm, Sweden Thursday 1st February: Oslo, Norway Friday 2nd February: Oslo, Norway." William and Kate have been awarded a very special badge for their work in support of Heads Together. The couple received their Gold Blue Peter Badge in Salford before they attended the Children's Global Media Summit in Manchester last week.

'The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have followed in the footsteps of his grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, by being awarded a coveted Gold Blue Peter badge it was announced today. The Gold Blue Peter badge is the programme’s highest award, only a handful of which are presented each year to individuals who show great expertise in their chosen field, are considered to be role models, and who inspire children across many generations.
They were introduced to members of the Blue Peter team and heard how the very popular Blue Peter website gives young people a safe space for children online with its Fan Club. They also learned about the hundreds of thousands of letters the programme receives each year and met local children who had achieved their own Blue Peter badges.
Her Majesty the Queen was awarded a Gold Blue Peter Badge during her Golden Jubilee year in 2002 and her grandson and his wife were delighted to have joined this select group, which also includes Sir David Attenborough, JK Rowling, Steven Spielberg, Mary Berry and David Beckham.
Receiving his badge, His Royal Highness said: “That’s very touching thank you very, very much. We’ve still got a long way to go yet but we are getting there. A shift is happening and we will hopefully crack a problem that should have been cracked a long time ago.” He then joked that he would now be able to compare Gold Blue Peter badges with his grandmother.'
I was delighted to see the couple participating in the Blue Peter Christmas special. For those unfamiliar with the show, it is a British children's television programme - the longest running children's show in the world. When Kate was given her badge she said "It's hugely special. Mental health has been a learning process for us too... We want to get everyone talking about it so it hasn't got that stigma it's had." In the future, it would be wonderful to see William, Kate and Harry participating in an interview about the Heads Together campaign and their views on the topic.

On Thursday morning, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will attend the Grenfell Tower National Memorial Service at St Paul's Cathedral. It will be televised on BBC1 from 10.30 a.m.
So glad to see her at this event, meeting some of the families from the tradgedy! Glad that they are respected and not photographed! Local charities like these, providing support and alternatives are always so impressive to me and often an integrl art in the social fabric of a community!

I had never heard of it before but from what I've read it's one of those things that kids watching the show growing up all wanted to win? So I'm sure it's an honor for them, especially because they're being recognized for their mental health work!

DeleteOn another note, I simple adore seeing Kate with kids! She just shines and the expressions on the kids faces are priceless! No amount of publicity can show something as genuine as the joy that both Kate and the kids reflect off each other. Kate has had a few funny encounters with kids but she always handles it like a pro and I always giggle when I see her expression, she's really a natural. Her calm and friendly demeanour towards children is so heart-warming.

I do agree with you that given the nature of this event, a party, that Kate should have chosen an outfit where she could remove the coat - it does give the impression (sorry those who keep it on) that you are preparing to rush off. As someone who watches the queen's engagements, I suspect she might have removed hers (and she normally changes her brooches.) I do think she kept it on that the WI celebration but Sophie wasn't wearing hers.

DeleteThe tragic picture that Charlotte posted for us represents the reality of the Grenville tragedy. Kudos to you Charlotte for capturing the whole story behind this event. I don’t believe Kate made an appearance prior to today to address and offer support for the horrific situation not far from her own neighborhood. I recall William and the Queen made an appearance shortly after the fire. In my opinion there is something starkly off about this event that Kate decided to attend. While it is wonderful to give children joy and a reprieve from the reality of the fire and trauma associated with it, I think it is as important, or maybe more so for the Duchess to participate and comfort those affected immediately following the tragedy. I respect all security concerns, etc., but perhaps private meetings with affected victims at the time of the tragedy are more meaningful. That would not be redundant of the event today. Perhaps times have changed, but I am of the opinion that Princess Diana would not be reluctant to role up her sleeves and address the tragedy in her own, special way and not wait after a delayed period of time when the photo-ops look much more pristine. I believe ribbon cutting ceremonies are important and symbolic gestures that British Coomonwealth people expect and deserve from the royal monarchy. But wouldn’t it have been much more heartfelt and substantive if it was revealed today through Palace PR that Kate met with affected families immediately after the tragedy, and was furthering her efforts by attending this event?

But if there is an engagement with both of them involved and both present, it makes sense that William takes the lead since he's the more "top dog" of them. Just like with the Queen and Phillip as you said.

DeleteI do think Kate is overly cautious and fears taking attention away from William perhaps because of the legacy of Charles being jealous of Diana - and that is not necessarily a good thing but is a product of both her own cautious nature - she seems to take any criticism too much to heart- and the palace's paranoia about another Diana - a place where they are at odds with the public.

Oh I was so excited to see this coat out and about once again...until I got to the shoes. Oprah says - you notice a persons shoes immediately, and I was hoping once again she'd bring out some booties. I feel the thick heel falls flat with such a delicate coat. I'll just look from the bottom of the beautiful coat up because that's all on point! She does look happy and healthy. I also think her hair has some extra needed bounce in it compared to last week. And what a thoughtful engagement. Tis the season!

Think it is important to know what these organizations actually do behind the scenes and what services they provide to the community; especially with such a tragedy as Grenfell tower. Loved that she spoke a few words of support and encouragement today. It was lovely and a natural thing to do. She looked beautiful in this coat from New York - I remember it well - hopefully the Pink Coat from NY or the Pale blue Natasha Coat (shown above) may get an outing at Christmas or the Tour Norway/Sweden.

I always admire when separate organizations decide they can be stronger together. The Trust community of volunteers should be commended for their work. I hope we can see more royal visits to organizations like the Portobello Trust in the future. Their work deserves all the attention a royal visit brings.
I wish Kate had copied the model wearing today's coat verbatim. Booties and hair up with a turtle neck would have been great!

I'm so pleased with everything about today's visit! I adore this coat on her! Also, I never thought I'd be so excited about the return of her side part and signature blowout. Say what you will about it not being as "modern," but the way she wore her hair today suits her perfectly! I'm also so excited to see her starting to make more short speeches and "off the cuff" remarks! Like everything for all of us, practice makes perfect, so it's great to see her start to work hard to be more vocal. It must be scary! Her presence at engagements is so great, but to have a voice and share her thoughts on causes close to her is also so important.

ReplyDeleteI love this coat and am glad to see her in it again, though I do agree with the commenters wishing she would have taken it off to set the table and make the presentation. Leaving it on gives the impression this was a "one and done" event, in which she arrived, spent a few minutes, then left with not a great deal of interest or participation (which wasn't the case at all).
ReplyDeleteThe side part is an improvement but I hope we see a bit more length on her hair. Just wish she'd find a stylist who would move her total look to that of a young mother of 35. She just looks so much older than her actual age, a combo of how gaunt her face is (though the pregnancy weight has helped), that heavy, dark makeup with her pale skin and the hair.
Compare her total look today with the previous wearing of the Seraphine coat, when she and Wills arrived in New York. She looks 10 years younger in the NYC photo.
I completely disagree that Kate looks older than 35! And especially that she looks 10 years older than the last time she wore this coat. She looks pretty much the same to me, if not even a little younger, since she has softened her make up a bit.

It makes it seem like she's there for such a short time that she can't even be bothered to take her coat off and "stay Awhile". Was the dress underneath not something she cared to show because with her pregnancy it didn't fit right? Timer for Kate to invest in true maternity clothes.

I was just wondering the other day how why some accuse her of these (not here), but today I wonder if they may be right sometimes. Compare pics from her last appearance 6 days ago with waves and now it is curled. Today, her hair is longer with curls but curls will shorten the hair compared to waves not lengthen it. Her hair could not have grown that much in 1 week. Do we have any hair stylists in the group that can chime in with a professional opinion? What do you think?
ReplyDeleteKate is wearing a fall -- you can see it in the sideways pictures where there's sort of a poof at the top of her head where her part ends. That part of her hair is thicker, longer and curlier than it normally is when she's not wearing extensions. She seems to really love the thick curls. I don't know why -- i think her naturally somewhat wavy hair is much prettier.
DeleteAlso I agree again about the optics of keeping a heavy coat indoors for a kids' event. I sometimes wonder if Kate isn't as comfortable with her body this third pregnancy as she seems to be showing more. A lot more of those baggy tent dresses and wearing coats indoors.

DeleteI don't see why that's supposed to be something negative. The hair that everybody loves so much and has been raving about since the engagement, is the hair that has got extensions in it. It's very well done, you couldn't tell unless you're an expert where hair is concerned. I'm certainly not and can only tell because her hair is thicker than it used to be. (If anyone has got a different explanation for this, I'm happy to be corrected.)

Ladies, This is exactly why I don’t often comment. If you disagree, you all attack like a pack of wolves at the slaughter. Are we not allowed to have different viewpoints? I understand we must disagree at some points but you can do so without using certain tones in your responses.
DeleteNot that I should have to defend myself, but here goes....Kate has beautiful hair already. She does not need to augment it. The augmentation of something already beautiful makes it seem overdone and to me, yes, cheapens it. For those women (not men because it is socially acceptable for men to be bald), who due to medical conditions need to augment thinning hair, I do not apply this adjective.
Does the same apply to make up? Only when it is shoveled on with a trowel like the Kartrashians do it. Make up to enhance your looks is not the same as adding a hair piece (no matter what form or cost). Cost of an item does not determine class.
Let me throw another subtle example your way - wearing heals. Is that cheap? I wear 3inch heals to work on a regular basis. The majority would say, of course not! Now, what if I told you they were CLEAR HEELS? Does that change the picture for you? It’s all in the details, so don’t try to paint my opinion with a wide brush, because it won’t work. And FYI - I do NOT wear clear heels anywhere and if you don’t think clear heels is cheap, well, I’m speechless.
Finally, would I say this to Kate’s face? YES. I am one of those people that will tell you to your face what I say behind your back. I may soften the language to avoid hurt feelings and to ensure the message does not get lost in the hysterics over verbiage, but I most certainly would tell her that she should embrace her beauty as is and she does not need hair extensions. Wearing tasteful makeup and regular grooming (ie, manicures) is not on the same level as adding hair where none is needed. We just saw her 6 days ago - did anyone see bald patches? Perhaps I missed them.
Please understand, these are just my opinions, I am not stating this as societal norms. I tend to be on the old-fashioned side and I would like royalty to be someone to be admired. If she is so insecure with her physical presence that she has to add hair extensions, then this is not something I admire. I am disappointed because I want her to be strong and perhaps she is not as confident as I thought. Naïveté on my part? Most certainly, but such is life.
There's nothing about looking cheap when wearing extensions. I see nothing wrong with it, even with royalty. Obviously those in the public eye have to look their best (whether they are celebrities or royalty) and this is part of that. Google pics of Kate pre-engagement and you will see her hair was not always looking like it is now.

I recall a time when Charlotte had to shut down the topic because people got so incensed at the idea Kate augments her hair. (And, no, I'm not talking about you, Lynn; not even close!) God forbid you mention other image enhancements.
DeleteKate is not someone who's going to throw herself into her role. If she was she'd have done it long before now. I've made my peace with it; she shows up, looks very nice doing it, occasionally says a few words, and goes home. And I'm not commenting much as a result. Nothing to say really. Kate's bar is so low people comment that she made some small talk.
I'm not going to get into what is real or what is not - I don't know and don't care - but I will just repeat my comment above that to me Kate looked most relaxed when her hair was cut shorter and worn straight - there was an ease about it that I never see with these heavy dated-looking curls. It was not a widely popular style with all here, but I loved it and wish she would return to it.

SO FAR, currently at 40 comments, 25% have questioned why Kate kept her coat on indoors for this visit. For PR visuals/branding, this is not the best thing to do Kate.

DeleteThe coat discussion is strange to me as Kate has done this for years. Has everyone just reached their breaking point on the coat indoors issue? I have to (very respectfully) disagree that it is a negative PR issue. It seems clear to me from the videos and photographs that Catherine was very engaged and happy to be there today. The coat-dress is one of my favorite staples and this coat (although not technically a coat-dress) does not look particularly heavy so I think it qualifies.

DeleteAnne. Many of us here noticed it and thought it odd. Enough that we commented on it. That's a prime example of a function of PR visual branding. Not interaction with the children per se but still very much a component of visual branding. (In retail it is called visual merchandising.)

DeleteSo the Queen gets a pass as far as coats go because she doesn't interact as much as Kate. The issue was wearing coats inside a building. I would think that Kate as future queen would be allowed the same formality.

Another one of those who cares things but obviously some people do. In my mind it isn't a big deal that she keeps it on and won't be a thing to me at all until keeping the coat on interferes with her engagements. If she can't talk to the people, play with the children, etc. then maybe there should be a discussion by her team but until then it doesn't detract from the actual engagement quality if she keeps it on.

With all due respect Surfer girl, Kate assumed her role of Duchess, both privately and publicly in 2011. I believe that there might have been additional time and effort to hone her public speaking skills during University and the time lapse between University and her engagement to the potential King of England. I assume she must have at least anticipated that the odds were in her favour that William may have proposed during their long courtship.
DeleteIt is my opinion that Kate, after so many years of assuming this important role, is offered praise for a few extemporaneous words to a very small group of people. Not to mention a resounding Cheerio when she literally reads a short speech. I still am unable to understand many of her pronunciations. I believe at this rate, we should be grateful for a 3 minute memorized speech by the Duchess when she is about 45 or 50 years old? As I have remarked in the past, with privilege comes responsibility. We all have responsibilities balancing our lives. I do hope the Duchess is given advice and a reality check by her new private secretary . With all due respect and on a positive note, Kate has no where to go than up in her presentations and commitments. I hope she can meet and rise above those challenges sooner than later. There is so much that she can offer to her country and the world. What a blessing to have such an amazing platform!
The image of Grenfell building is unforgettably mournful. It still stood as is, in its skeleton, strange? It didn’t all collapse, at least partially and demolish. I hope the people affected by the fire found some healing.

I disagree that the special badges given to the Cambridge’s will be a defining memory in the children’s lives who receive a couple minutes of time with the Royal couple. A Princess-like gown and and 2 spectacular crowns would more likely impress these precious, young minds. And is likely a fleeting, cool memory. As a common saying goes, “it’s not about you all the time”- I would think if badges or symbols were given to the children- we can all probably relate to that feeling as youngsters—that gesture would hold some meaning and understanding as they grow and experience challenges as all adolescents do and find their “badges” of strength and seek qualified and professional help when needed. Mental health issues, I believe, must be dealt with age appropriately and professionally explained. Placing emphasis on the Cambridge’s accolades is lost on young children; unless the children have full comprehension and/ or have a degree in psychology or training in the area of mental health.

DeleteThis was a great engagement. I'm sure Kate's presence was really appreciated by both the employees and those whom the charity helps. I loved the videos too, the babies were sweet! The coat is great and I think Kate wears it indoors because she is warm and comfortable in it (maybe more than in the dress which she is wearing beneath it) and knows she looks good in it. Such a treat to see Kate visit this awesome charity & thank them personally for all the hard work that they do for the community. Lovely to see the children light up when Kate handed out presents/helped to set the table. It makes me sad to think of all the hardships this community has gone through since the Grenfell tragedy. It must still feel very raw for them, but I hope Kate's visit lifted their spirits & offered them some comfort.

Look forward to seeing more great maternity styles from her (she has quite a number in her closet) like the apricot coat & dress, the navy Beulah coat & some of her other Seraphine pieces. I also hope we see the bright pink Mulberry & Hobbs dalmation coats again. These earrings are also a favourite of mine. I like how the amethysts tie in with the purple of the coat. Kate's hair looked fab today; she looked very habby to be there & glowing.
I'd love to see Kate repeat some of her amazing maternity pieces too. The apricot coat and dress as well as the bright pink Mulberry and Hobbs dalmatian coats are excellent choices.

Love it except for two small quibbles - (1) Not removing her coat once she was inside and (2) wish she had worn booties instead of heels (like the she did the first time she wore the coat in NYC or like the pic of the model wearing the coat).

Sometimes she takes her coat off if it is one of the heavier ones and/ or she is making more than one stop and wants to make the events have a different look: for example, the POW check coat/red dress combo she recently wore.

I don't understand the need to quibble about hair pieces, side parts, and coat wearing. Obviously, she had a full, well-rounded engagement and I really doubt any mother or child thought, "OH! She's wearing a coat. She must dislike us so much she is anxious to leave."
Sometimes, some coats, she leaves them on. I think that has been well-established by now. It is beginning to seem to me a criticism to drag out when there really isn't anything important to complain about. And to go from wearing a coat inside to not accepting her pregnancy is, frankly, quite a stretch.
Come on, folks. This community can and has done better than some of these ... remarks. If I were a first time reader of this blog and comment forum and if I was shown a group of comments and asked to pick out which exemplified Charlotte's Post I would exclude at least fifty per cent of the comments here as not being worthy of her work.

DeleteA coat is different from a cardi - when someone doesn't take a coat off, it implies 'I'm only here for a short time' which is a very valid criticism that goes beyond fashion statements. I've had neighbours stop in and not take off their coats and it immediately says to me they're not meaning to stay long, so I needn't worry about asking them to dinner.
I think all comments are valid whether I always agree with them or not and that the freedom to comment on Duchess Kate, without being criticised for speaking too favourably or too critically, is why the blog is the excellent source it is.
Royal life is about minutia - tiny little details that give an impression and are most important.
I will respectfully have to disagree, as a northerner as well, I wear warm clothes under my warm coat when it's cold out. I do not wear flimsy fabrics in winter that I know will cause me to be cold when I take my coat off. I would not wear a thin dress, rather a pair of wool trousers and sweater or blazer, or a heavier fabric long sleeve dress, ALL of which can be found in the maternity section these days. She obviously had a dress on, why not make it a nice appropriate dress that looks good when you take your coat off.

Quite bluntly, it is my hope that Kate (and he staff) never reads comment sections on any blog about herself. And I agree as well that at least half of the comments here are not worthy of Charlotte's work as author of this blog. There is nothing wrong with Kate keeping her coat on at an event. She has some beautiful coats and if she wants to wear them inside, that is perfectly fine. What matters is the quality of the visit and she gives that quality in abundance (by her time, attention, questions, energy, and compassion). I realize that I'm in the minority here as Kate's fashion and hair styles don't matter to me, nor does fashion in general. I wear what I'm comfortable wearing, regardless of fashion trends. And one thing I've learned from reading this comment section is that if I were in Kate's position, many of you would be criticizing me for the same things that you do for Kate. It is who Kate is as a person (her character, devotion to family, and compassion for helping others) that captures my attention, and I appreciate Charlotte's effort to share that aspect in her blog as well.

DeleteI would certainly hope Kate's staff reads comments - how do you ever improve if you don't know what people think - vitally important for any royal lady or indeed anyone in public or professional life.
DeleteOn fashion, my view has never changed. I divide it into three parts - do I like the outfit personally, is is overall suitable for a royal lady and is it suitable for the occasion.
Here, I like the design of the coat fine. I don't like the shorter lengths on Kate and think it's been borderline suitable in some cases, but I'll pass on that here. But I do think a party is an instance where a coat should be removed or an outfit should be chosen (a coat dress for instance) where it's not at issue. And when a number of people feel that way, that means many more people outside this blog are going to be thinking that way.
Since royal life is not about politics or hands-on work or opinions, it puts emphasis on other areas - deportment, etiquette, caring, listening. One of them is getting clothes right. The right look is part of being royal and always has been - if the queen wears a national emblem, that's a statement, if Kate wears a designer of a country being visited, that's a statement, if Victoria dressed for years in mourning, that's a statement.
In many ways, royal ladies are lucky, and not just with jewels and gowns. They get to wear outfits an ordinary professional woman would have few chances to wear. I recall I bought a velvet suit under the influence of Diana. She wore it to repeated engagements - I got to wear mine to a few parties and weddings - it wasn't something I could wear to work. By the same standards, there are royal limits - their clothes should be conservative, not too trendy, not be flashy like celebrities and need to be completely attuned to the occasion - so yes, taking a coat off or leaving it on can make a statement - and it can be the wrong one.
Yes, I would be critiquing you Anon, I critique the fashions of every royal woman. Some get it right often - others leave me shaking my head. Sometimes a woman who impresses me personally (Rania) may baffle me with her fashion choices but again I look at why she might be wearing that outfit. I may rarely like orange but see why Maxima wears it but I sometimes think her outfits are not appropriate.
This is one of my favorite maternity looks from Kate. I was hoping she would wear this coat again. Her earrings are pretty too. I also loved the velvet slippers William wore tonight at the Star Wars premier. Does anyone know what shoes they are?

While I understand those wanting the coat off, when the Duchess wears a beautiful coat such as this one, it simply is her signature style to keep the coat on, wearing it as a coat dress. I’m not disappointed at all that she keeps the coat on as she looks so pretty in it. The shoes even worked for me as being pregnant, it’s nice for the Duchess to be able to wear something a bit more comfortable. I loved her look at the little boy! Reminded me of the eye roll at being told to keep wrapping. She will make a wonderful queen!

The coat is enough like a dress to look nice indoors. I had never realized it is purple as it seemed a rusty brown or burgundy in pictures. It is a very nice garment. Kate would have looked funereal had she removed it, given what she was wearing underneath. I do like her practical Tod shoes, and I don't like booties except with pants/trousers.

William and Harry looked so handsome on the red carpet last night. AND, more importantly, the boys invited 400 special guests to the premiere of the latest "Star Wars" movie. (a liitle clout there to be able to do that, lol) Those guests included young people, military people, charity workers and victims of the Grenfall Towers tragedy, emergency workers and people involved currently with recovery also. That is so cool. Kudos William and Harry. ❤️

ReplyDeleteI am glad she visited this organisation who have done so much good work in this deprived area of Kensington and given so much support to the fire victims. Like another blogger I am disappointed that Kate has not been involved before now in showing support for the fire victims. I know she had to pull out of the joint visit with William & Harry but William visited with the Queen before that why did she not follow up soon after. Sadly I feel she still only pays lip service to her charities unlike W & H who are both passionate about their charity work. She does seem to genuinely care about mental health of young children & families but needs to widen her interests and also not discard her other charities like the Each hospice movement and when did she last visit the Art Room one of her first or Sports Aid even Action on Addiction has only had visits to their headquarters over the last couple of years none to any of the grassroots organisations they run. She has only made one visit to Action for Children the charity she inherited from the Queen. I feel very frustrated at her lack of enthusiasm because I feel she has so much to offer and could be so good. I just hope her new private Secretary can sort her out. I still wonder who it was that appointed CQ in that post.
How nice that W & K were awarded the Blue Peter badge I shall look forward to watching the interview on TV tomorrow it will be light hearted viewing after watching the memorial service in the morning.
No doubt W & H had a very good night at the Film Premiere and the party they hosted at KP afterwards!!
I believe Kate attended the family Xmas party at KP with William after they became engaged so I expect Meghan will be with Harry for that event but despite all the press speculation still no official word on Xmas itself.
I swear Charles hired Catherine Quinn. I am already seeing an improvement in Kate's confidence/attentiveness during her recent engagements. I think Charles really wants to get the wheels moving with the next generation of royals, before the Queen goes. I think now is the right time. William & Harry having being pushing ahead with their work & I felt that Kate was lagging behind. CQ seems to be a steadying force & I feel she's already made an impact. You also hardly notice her in the background; she's just a dignified, stylish presence.
DeleteSadly I agree with you Lizzie. After stoutly defending her for quite awhile, I have now come to the conclusion that Kate is lagging far behind W & H in her support of her patronages. It takes a lot of the luster off following her although I learn so much from Charlotte’s insightful posts.

ReplyDeleteI always felt that when Kate wears a coat, it's not intended to serve the purpose of a coat, i.e. keep her warm outdoors, but rather as part of her total outfit and that is the reason she does not take it off inside. It's the same as when William wears a suit to an event. The jacket is not intended to keep him warm, but instead it's part of the suit, part of the ensemble, and he wouldn't take it off indoors either.
ReplyDeleteSame here. And to me it seems a common practice among royals, wives of presidents and the more "decorative kind" of public servants, if that makes sense. It doesn't bother me at all, but everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can see why people think it sends the wrong signal. I just happen to disagree :P Or rather, think that if there is a signal it's a one waaaay too miniscule to bother with in my book. But in others it might be different or many ones starting to build up. I don't think this nitpick has shown up in a vaccuum but rather as an enhancer or tag-along about other things people are already bothered about. So I see it more as a symptom or a collective "cause" rather than a real issue. Kate has to be aware about how she's seen, but I doubt anyone here would bother with it if they didn't have other issues tied to it. Which makes sense. The royals are having image issues and then things like a coat can enhance a visual they don't want to enhance. Again, I've not noticed or cared about it, but I can see why it rubs people the wrong way and "silly stuff" like that has to be taken into consideration with the royals.

I don't appreciate being called a liar which you did in your last response. My original post merely gave an opinion, of which, last I checked I am allowed. This was met with people jumping to conclusions about makeup, which I never even mentioned. And the use of hair extensions across all women cheapening them, which I also did not state. So by accusing me of these things, I do think I was attacked yes. Now, you state that I am a liar by not being willing to tell Kate to her face that I think hair extensions cheapen her (and her alone - please read!) and you jump to the wrong conclusion again that I said that women who wear hair extensions are weak -- again something that I did not state. Please read before you comment again so that you can have an understanding of what is being said without jumping to a number of conclusions that are not being made. Please also refrain from further sarcastic insults. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteToday’s engagement was a win in my book. It was so wonderful to see her pitching in and setting the table. My family hosted holiday parties for a local homeless shelter/transitional house for a number of years and I can say from experience, every little bit helps. Setting tables, handing out presents - you never truly know how those little tasks can greatly affect someone’s experience.
ReplyDeleteI do love this coat but it did feel a little heavy for an indoor event. To me, this is a transitional coat meant to cover another outfit until you arrive inside. I do love the color and it looks good on her. I’ve noticed the shoes a few times now - I’m thinking she may be having issues with thin heels for extended periods of time with this pregnancy. I don’t love the shoes but they’re not horrible either. I’m not a fan of nylons, for me or anyone else. If you’re going to wear them, nude/natural is the way to go, not black or even white.
If she wasn’t planning to take her coat off, she could have worn black skinny pants which would not have given her legs that shiny black color but given her the same shape as the nylons without the shiny-ness. The earrings are probably my favorite part of the outfit. Beautiful.
It exciting to hear that they’ll be visiting Sweden and Norway - I’m hoping for a visit with Crown Princess Victoria. I think they would get on well and would love to see a photo of a meeting between Kate & Victoria - my head would explode.
That's the problem on this blog that allows posters to address and call out other posters by name. This is not allowed on other sites and i dont know why it contiues here. It makes you not want to use a name or post for fear of being called out by name. Why can't people post an opinion withot being called names and being bullied by other posters?? i think the terms of being able to post need to change to address this. all the work put into this lovely blog desends into chaos everytime someone feels personaly insulted.

ReplyDeleteI am not super fond of the shoes due to the sole which does look rather casual, but I also have wondered if she is having some foot issues and is going for the padding of that rubber sole and the security of the footing and saving her feet for events where she has to wear less comfy shoes. Agree the coat is not really a coat dress as some of her items are. I love the coat but agree for this event, even if a bit chilly, I would have taken it off myself.
I don't understand the coat-on/coat-off debate. This isn't a heavy overcoat and it's the way Kate has been dressing for 6+ years. Look at the Queen; has she been accused of rushing if she keeps her coat, hat, and/or gloves on?
ReplyDeleteRegarding hair extensions: I don't know (not an expert) and honestly don't care. And how are they different from wearing lipstick or eye make up? Or using hair color? Isn't it far more important that her heart and intentions are genuine? Isn't that was truly matters? I think so.

DeleteKate's hair look amazing, much better than in the last couple of engagements! I do wish she would perhaps use a shade darker lipstick, I also agree that she does need to start speaking up a bit more at her engagements. Overall this is her best look in a long time

ReplyDeleteI loved seeing them get their blue peter badges! Kate is still very shy public speaking and it's endearing. I applaud the work they are doing around mental health it is vitally important. For far too long seeking help or talking about mental health was stigmatized.
