The Duchess in Dolce for Wimbledon Men's Final!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Gentlemen's Singles Final of the Championships, Wimbledon.

The Duke and Duchess arriving.

William and Kate spent time with tennis royalty Rod Laver and Kim Clijsters. Laver's 200 singles titles are the most in tennis history. This included his all-time men's record of 10 or more titles per year for seven consecutive years (1964–70). He excelled on all of the court surfaces of his time: grass, clay, hard, carpet, and wood/parquet. Clijsters is a Belgian former professional tennis player. She won 41 singles and eleven doubles titles during her career.

It was very much a weekend of Wimbledon for the Duchess. Yesterday, Kate attended the women's final with the Duchess of Sussex and today she was accompanied by William. The Queen passed her patronage of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in December 2016 - an ideal fit for the ardent fan and keen amateur player.

The Duke and Duchess were joined in the Royal Box by Prime Minister Theresa May.

Prince William chatting with the PM.

The final saw Novak Djokovic face off against Kevin Anderson.

The Telegraph reported: "So here we are. After two weeks of baking-hot sun and intriguing (if not always thrilling) tennis, 126 men have headed home and we are left with just the two finalists: Kevin Anderson and Novak Djokovic. Were all things equal this would be a tricky match to call, what with Anderson's serve-heavy game well-suited to grass and his giant-killer pedigree burnished by defeating Roger Federer in Wednesday's quarter-final. There is of course though a huge 6hr 36min cloud hanging over Anderson, whose body will surely be in bits after Friday's marathon semi-final against John Isner. Anderson did at least theoretically have a day off yesterday but he looked drained of energy during his press commitments, and will be made to work extremely hard this afternoon by the almost sadistically durable Djokovic."

The Duke and Duchess watched closely as the final kicked off.

Kate with Sophie Winkleman. Sophie is the wife of Lord Frederick Windsor, son of the Queen's first cousin Prince Michael of Kent. Their daughter Maude goes to Thomas's Battersea with Prince George.

Famous faces in the Royal Box included Hugh Grant and Katherine Jenkins.

Actor Eddie Redmayne and his wife Hannah.

A tense moment during the match.

There were hair-raising moments during the third set.

In a special interview for a BBC documentary last year, Kate revealed her lifelong love of the tournament. "I have watched Wimbledon, that was very much part of my growing up. I was really taken by Agassi and Sampras, Ivanisevic and Steffi Graf. Those are my first memories." Kate also said she queued for hours to get into the tournament before joining the Royal Family, adding: “Being able to go into Wimbledon and be part of an amazing atmosphere is special.” She said: “It inspires young people including myself. Every time Wimbledon is on I am thinking ‘Yes, I could do the same’ and get out the racket. Sadly, not the same results.”

In the end, Djokovic was the victor winning in three sets. Today marks his fourth men's singles Wimbledon title.

Cheers, smiles and applause after the match.

William and Kate congratulated Novak on his victory.

The Duchess chose the vibrant and summery yellow Dolce & Gabbana Crepe Dress (with thanks to Replicate Royals). It's a beautiful choice for Wimbledon.

The £805 dress is described as "Crafted from smoothing crepe, this knee-length style is perfect for warm-weather events - think the races, weddings and garden parties. It's subtly darted through the bodice for a figure-hugging fit and finished with ruffled sleeves."

The dress is from the brand's tropical Resort 2017 Collection.

The Telegraph writes:

'The Duchess of Cambridge could be spotted from a mile off as she arrived at Centre Court today, to watch Novak Djokovic take on Kevin Anderson in the Wimbledon men’s finals.
Dressed in a slice of lemon-esque, Dolce and Gabbana dress, she looked entirely heatwave-ready, and is guaranteed to stand out on screen when the finalists pause for a breather between rallies and the cameras inevitably pan to HRH in the crowd.
The Duchess’ endorsement of the LYD, or little yellow dress, secures the status of ‘sunshine dressing’ as one of summer’s key trends.'

For those hoping to Repli-Kate the look, Kate J suggests the $108 Jax Shift Dress with Flutter Detail and the $72 (now reduced to $36) Little Mistress Grenoble Pleat Neck Dress.

The Italian brand is fast becoming a favourite of Kate's. For Wimbledon last year, Kate selected their Pleated Polka-Dot dress. Middleton Maven notes the dress is reduced by 50% to £825 at The Outnet.

Kate accessorised her look with the same bag and sunglasses as yesterday. The $1695 Dolce & Gabbana Pink Medium Miss Sicily Bag is described as "Structured grained 'dauphine' calfskin top handle bag in 'rose' pink. Carry handle at top. Adjustable and detachable shoulder strap with lobster clasp fastening." The stylish bag is available at My Theresa and SSENSE.

And the Ray-Ban Youngster Youngster Square Keyhold Sunglasses. They are currently available at Nordstrom.

Kate wore her trusty Cartier watch.

Kate accessorised with her citrine ring.

Kate was first spotted wearing it over a decade ago for her 26th birthday celebrations. She sported it again in May for the Royal wedding.

Kate completed the look with her Asprey necklace with charms from the Woodland Collection.

And Asprey Oak Leaf earrings (with many thanks to Katie, she received confirmation from the brand).

Kate's Wimbledon pin.

Kate's shoes were nude/beige, I'll update if photos of them emerge.

The official portraits taken at Prince Louis' christening will be released tonight. We'll see you later tonight :)

Oh, yay! I love Kate in yellow :) Can't wait to see better pictures! Maybe even some more iconic sports-faces!

    3. We would like to come back and go there too! After a massive traditionsl English Sunday roast we took a river boat to Greenwhich and saw the Royal Observatory "where the English invented time..." lol! Then my husband stayed in a pub there to watch the world cup and I went to Hackney to Violet Cakes, the bakery that did Harry and Meghan's wedding cake. :) It was our "day off". Tomorrow is Windsor and Kensington and the leave on Tuesday.

The ring is quite pretty. Although.. I'm not sure it's the same ring as the older one. The older one looks to have a white/silvery metal and this one more of a gold tint? But might just be lighting.

  15. Well we know now at least one thing Kate has in her (gorgeous) bag. Through lipreading i could see that, as the players came on court, William said something to kate briefly ( which I could not catch) and then said "have you got my glasses in your bag?". Kate immediately reached for her handbag. LOL

  16. She looks fantastic! The dress yesterday looked like she was still carrying baby weight - this one is much more flattering. Love that she's out and about a bit!

  17. I wonder if William called her a banana again this morning (remember she said that he told her that when she wore the Illnic several years ago?) She can carry yellow off so beautifully and I love the frilly sleeves. William is going to be surreptitiously looking at his smartphone an hour after the match starts as the World Cup final starts in two hours and even though England isn't playing this is going to be some final! Good on him for going with Kate today as I don't think he is as tennis mad as she is.

  18. Love it. Is it tennis ball yellow? She looks much happier at these matches than some of the other events she’s been to lately. Except of course the christening. She’s becoming a natural at being a duchess.

It's a purple and green one, the colours of Wimbledon (pretty sure).

    2. Yes, a purple and green Wimbledon bow. Kate was given it last year and it signals she is a member of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. She is probably a honorary member rather than a playing member. Men have a purple and green striped tie. Tim Henman was wearing his today.

  21. Lovely to see William and Kate at Wimbledon but I will be the odd person out in thinking Kate should leave that very bold yellow to Meghan. I do like Kate in yellow, such as the dresses she wore in Australia and Canada but this shade is just too strong for my taste on her. The shape of the dress is lovely though and they look happy. And no one will have trouble spotting her.

Over on OSS some of us had a discussion of Colour Me Beautiful, which younger women may not remember. Staying with the original four seasons, rather than newer more convoluted versions, I thought Kate might be a spring. (It depends on whether you have warm or cool undertones to your skin.) But this shade is a spring one, so I wonder whether she isn't in fact a winter (blue undertones) and looks better in 'lemon' yellow.

I did a slide of the four yellow dresses I remember Kate wearing (there was also the one in Germany). If you put them next to each other, and allowing for differences in monitors and photographs, the Australia yellow looks best on Kate.

(Yes I do have real work to do - I'm procrastinating.)

    2. I remember a conversation some years ago where it was stated Kate was a summer and it seemed to make sense, cream white is a wonderful colour on her. Yellow is difficult in any case IMO. The yellow I liked the most in Kate is that of the coat she wore to a garden party when pregnant with George.

    3. I remember the seasons (Summer, here) and I am not a fan of Kate in yellow or gold. Cute dress though- just not for a Winter.

      Delete
    4. Julia, I've always thought Kate a winter. She really shines in certain whites, black and jewel colors while pastels seem to wash her out. I'm not an expert though. My mom had the book and I thought it was the coolest thing at the time. Read it front to back many times.

    5. Am i the only one who think she is a Summer? And I bet Meghan is a spring!

    6. American Army Wife15 July 2018 at 16:40

Julia, the four seasons Color me Beautiful was actually a simplified commercially successful hack of the original Color, the Essence of You, developed by Suzanne Caygill, and it is a highly nuanced personalized approach. I feel that most commenters here and otherwise don’t understand picking clothing colors to be flattering. With the exemption of a few stylists, most people aren’t dressing an individual with an eye to the value of color. The fashion industry uses the human wearer as a blank canvas. People wear trends, what they like to look at, or what is cool (kids). In color theory, you are correct, in that a smaller number of people are flattered by this bold yellow. I think it is also the reason she wears more blue. Some shade of blue is complimentary to every skin tone grouping and is more forgiving across skin tone lines. I was fortunate enough to have a color analysis by a Caygill trained person. It changed my life! Her years of work was being threatened by the Color Me Beautiful knock offs that were everywhere. Now the concepts are lost on most people who can’t figure out why that expensive mustard colored gown that looked so chic on a celebrity with different coloring is not personally flattering. Also, as you know, not everyone looks chic in a LBD!

    7. Yellow is such a fantastic colour on HRH The Duchess of Cambridge - it looks exquisite against her alabaster English skin!

      Delete
    8. “Leave it to Meghan?” Why would you bring Meghan up at all in this context? If your point is that you thought this color looked better on Meghan - my understanding is that we have been requested to refrain from comparing the two duchesses.

      Delete
    9. Uh... Can we please not have a "who wore it better" for the color Yellow!!!??? That's beneath all of us!! They both look glorious in the color!! The End!!

      Delete
    10. Meghan is definitely an Autumn! Warm skin, definitely, and dark tones in hair and eyes.. Kate is a Summer. She doesn.t have the high contrast necessary to be a Winter.

    11. American Army Wife, In my working days, I knew someone who had her colours professionally done in Manhattan possibly by Caygill or someone trained by her and she looked consistently fabulous. We all envied her. But even the hack books were a helpful guide. I'm a summer with fairly classic British rosy colouring and blue undertones and I promise you, I don't look good in most shades of yellow. It's a colour that I have to be very careful choosing but there are shades of yellow I can wear. (Very soft ones.) There is no one 'yellow'!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with someone looking better in some tones of a colour than others - it's true for the majority of us if not all of us. And I know personally I would choose colours that weren't always the best on me (black for instance) simply because I liked them. Again, most people do.

Just comparing the various shades of yellow Kate has worn shows clearly there isn't just one 'yellow'. It's an easy colour to do this because there aren't a tonne of examples. But the examples range from the primrose coat Kate wore to Meghan's wedding which was almost cream to the mustard-gold Erdem she wore in Sweden which the majority of us didn't like. There was the butter yellow dress Kate wore in Canada, the very true lemon yellow of the Roksanda dress in Australia, the maternity coat - also a very true yellow, all of which were well received, and the more golden Packham she wore in Germany which was far less popular. Today's dress was even more golden. Of course, the photographs, the light, and our monitors all make a difference so it's impossible to be scientific.

Personally, I think the more the colours tend towards gold, the less flattering they are to Kate's skin tone. That doesn't mean they're bad dresses, nor is it an insult to Kate - today's dress was a very pretty style. But I don't think it's her best shade - and that's not 'beneath' anyone. There is not a single royal lady out there - even the queen, who can wear every colour successfully or does. (She wore a regrettable green not long ago.)

The Erdem which is the closest to mustard was widely disliked on Kate - even though objectively the print was pretty. It had a high neckline and it made Kate look washed out. I've noticed too some of Kate's least popular clothes in the polls - the green Walker coat comes to mind, were both in the wrong shade for Kate (that was a very yellow green) and worn close to the neck - where the wrong colour will be particularly noticeable.

So yes, Kate can look marvellous in shades of yellow. But not every yellow is equal and as nice as this dress was in style, I don't think it's her best shade.

    1. This is the woman who appeared in shape-revealing clothing hours after giving birth- three times!- for the world to see in all her post-baby splendour! I am at a loss as to the basis for determining she has trouble accepting her figure. A certain amount of roundness and curves comes with nursing-which she obviously is willing to accept.

Someone above also said she had not been looking happy. Sorry. No PP depression here. She is solemn at church appearances, as is appropriate, but otherwise she has been her usual cheerful self who loves to laugh. She is usually with her children and/or William these days when seen in public. I suspect they contribute to her already sunny disposition. I would choose watching my children (or the pets) for a good laugh or a smile over any television program. Also, William seems to keep her entertained when out and about.

    2. Wow.
I only meant that this look seems more geared at accentuating her figure than the past few outfits she’s worn (with gatherings or jackets- tricks of the eye I know well because I use them often).

    3. I appreciate your clarifying your statement; however,"...getting more comfortable showing her post-baby figure" is the remark made and the words I was responding to. I said and meant that I saw no basis for saying Kate was ever uncomfortable with her appearance to begin with.
Her style and dress fit have changed because her figure has gradually changed, not because of any issues with her body image. Anon 19:02

  32. Yesterday and todays silhouette is very flattering to Kates figure. It give her a more professional polished look in my opinion compared to the often seen A line dresses she often favors. I think the hair length is a return to low maintenance during her time off from royal duties. It is easy to pull back or tie up longer hair rather then having it done professionally as Kate more often then not does. Naturally curly hair can lend itself to much work when not worn naturally.

    1. I very much agree with you. The fit of Kate's dress is perfectiont! When William was chatting with The Prime Minister, I have no doubt he must have asked about her meeting with Donald Trump. Hence the looks on their faces.

    2. Becca, it looks like she’s still breast-feeding, so that’s not a shape she can keep indefinitely. :-) I think she looks great too and she seems to feel good about herself, but I predict that she’ll be fitting into her old clothes by September.

    2. I was hoping for wedges or a cute sandal heel. I was really wishing for a nice color shoe to compliment the yellow or even floral print :-)

    3. Hee hee Anon 21:21 i hope never to see her in wedges again, but agree a cute sandal would have worked also.

  53. The Duchess has found a nice way to balance highlighting her natural beauty while not looking overdone or coming across as inauthentic. I love a yellow dress and this doesn't disappoint, but what about the shoes?!? Didn't hear about those, probably a standard nude heel?

  54. I think Kate looks quite smashing in this dress - love the color, cut, and sleeves. Quite unfortunate about the wrinkles, though.

  55. Boy oh boy! Kate looked 'smashing' today. Love the perfect fit of dress as well as the color. That color really brings out the highlights in her hair. The flutter of the sleeves really gave that dress some movement. The gold accessories are spot on and I'm looking forward to someone ID'ing her earrings.

It was so sweet the way that Novak spoke about his son. I'm guessing Kate asked him about that when they congratulated him. I can hardly wait for Kate to start brining George to matches. Now we know that the age of five is the magic number. I loved the photos of Diana sitting with William and Harry at matches. Kate has early memories and to share this with her kids will be priceless.

I wish the match had gone on longer. Neither of the finals were as exciting as the semi-finals.

  56. Oh my gosh! I don't think she could be any more beautiful!

I love the dress. The fit and design is perfect on the duchess. Her clothes fit her like a glove.
The color is pretty bright, but she wears it well.

I love seeing her in dresses as opposed to coat dresses. Her coats are lovely, but they are not something that we wear in my neck of the woods. (Way too hot!!) I can see myself wearing her dresses more easily than I can her coats. Although, in the right climate, I would give some of her coats a try too.

Her jewelry was nice, I loved that big citrine ring.

I hope she will be out and about again soon.

  57. Very smart of her to wear this color when in a crowd and not with the queen, I am sure everyone was hoping to get a glimpse of her!

  58. Online, this looks like the same yellow that MM wore. It's a good lesson that each woman can look amazing while customizing the style to their taste. Kate couldn't look better---her "fuller" figure is perfection. More important, she looked like she was having so much fun both yesterday and today.

  59. Kate looks wonderful. Love the dress but not a fan of yellow except as a possible accent color in clothes. She and William seemed to be enjoying their day out watching tennis. William's blazer was very nice.

  61. The Duchess of Cambridge is beautiful in lemon yellow. I wonder what her "go to" exercise is, and how long does she exercise each day? She is incredibly disciplined! Parthenia

  62. Wow, Kate looks spectacular today. This is the best I’ve seen her in awhile, IMO. It looks like she’s had some fresh hair color, too. The shape of that dress is spot on and the sleeves are so fun! Also glad to see her attend with William—they always make for great photos.

  65. Catherine is adorable and I really appreciate the thought that goes into her sartorial choices. The bright yellow is glorious, perfect for the Wimbledon final.

  66. Kate looks fantastic! She just had a baby, I can't believe it! I wonder what she does for exercises to spring back into shape so quickly

    1. She probably does at least an hour of intense cardio exercise, so maybe, swimming, biking, or running. And, then, maybe, every other day, weightlifting. Also, she probably does core exercises. To look as good in clothes, as she does, she has a good exercise program, and is diligent. Parthenia

    2. You are right, she is diligent when it comes to sports. I really admire that about her. Unlike a lot of people she never lets her health go. It's been a challenge for me personally to stick to an exercise program.
