The Duchess of Cambridge in Blue Elie Saab For Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot kicked off in style today with a host of royals including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge present.

The Duke and Duchess travelled in the second carriage with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Her Majesty was in the first carriage with Prince Andrew, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima (who sported one of her signature hats).

A terrific video of the procession. Princess Anne, The Earl and Countess of Wessex, Princess Eugenie, Princess Beatrice and Princess Alexandra were also there.

The quintessential racing extravaganza is an annual highlight on the royal calendar.

Her Majesty simply adores Ascot and looks forward to the week throughout the year. It is said she loves to see as many members of the family in attendance as possible.

People reports:

'In her welcoming remarks to racegoers in this year’s Royal Ascot program, the Queen calls the event "one of the sporting events that I have been fortunate to enjoy throughout my life." Signing it “Elizabeth R,” she adds that even though racing has been taking place there for more than 300 years, and “much has changed, the horses remain the stars, thrilling us with their beauty, brilliance and courage. The quality and the depth of competition at the Royal Meeting has also continued to prosper.”

The Cambridges made their debut at the event in 2016, in honour of the Queen's 90th birthday. They joined the monarch again in 2017.

The Duke and Duchess catching up with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima following their appearance at Garter Day yesterday.

Charles, Camilla and William mingle with guests.

Photos of Kate and Zara Tindall are always a treat during Ascot..

I've said before, Mike and Zara always come across as such an incredibly warm and fun couple to spend time with. We've seen wonderful interaction between Kate and Zara over the years at polo matches, family events and earlier this year during a family day out in Norfolk.

We saw an assortment of blue shades and floral prints from the royal ladies today. Kate and Her Majesty were very well coordinated.

The Duchess appeared to very much enjoy chatting with guests.

Day One of Royal Ascot is widely acknowledged to be among the best racing days anywhere in the world with three Group One races and Ascot’s premier two-year-old race, the Group Two Coventry Stakes.

Over 300,000 people make the annual visit to Berkshire during Royal Ascot week, making this Europe’s best-attended race meeting. It is a major event in the British social calendar.

The Queen watches on as her horse Choirboy wins the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot, 17th June 1953.

There are three enclosures attended by guests on Royal Ascot week. The Royal Enclosure is the most prestigious of the three, with visits by the Queen and Royal family members.

Access to the Royal Enclosure is restricted, with high security on the day. First-time applicants must apply to the Royal Enclosure Office and gain membership from someone who has attended the enclosure for at least four years.

Guests can enjoy afternoon tea or avail of a fine dining experience by Michelin-Starred chefs such as Raymond Blanc OBE.

This year's classic race card design.

Not only is Royal Ascot a highlight on the racing calendar, it's also synonymous with sartorial elegance. Royal Ascot notes: "Our dress code is traditional, woven into the very fabric of our history. It was Beau Brummell, perhaps Britain’s first fashion icon, who at the turn of the 19th century dictated the dress for men in the Royal Enclosure. His sense of style is still reflected in Royal Ascot fashions today. In 2017, Royal Ascot successfully welcomed the jumpsuit as an acceptable item of clothing for the Royal Enclosure. Ascot continues to recognise key trends in the ever-evolving world of fashion."

For her first Ascot appearance in 2016, the Duchess donned a white lace Dolce & Gabbana dress.

In 2017, the Duchess selected a white lace Alexander McQueen dress.

Over the years, we've often discussed at length, potential designers we would love to see Kate wear. Elie Saab has been at the very top of that list for many of us; it was quite the sartorial surprise to see Kate in one of his creations today. The Lebanese fashion designer took the fashion world by storm with his showstopping, romantic, whimsical collections. From bridal to evening wear to feminine daywear pieces, his outstanding designs have been worn by royalty all over the world.

Kate's Closet notes Kate wore separates by the designer. The Macramé Pussy Bow Top features a relaxed fit, short sleeves and macramé trim.

The matching skirt has a very 'princessy' feel to it and produces an almost sparkly effect in images. The look is from the Resort 2019 Collection.

The Duchess wore a custom version of Philip Treacy's Molded Slice Hat with rosettes from the Spring/Summer 2016 Collection.

Kate chose the hat in pink for Trooping The Colour 2016.

Kate's new metallic pumps are the Gianvito Rossi 105 pumps (with thanks to For The Royals) They are described as: "Gianvito Rossi's silver pumps demonstrate that jewelry isn't the only thing that can add a little shine to your outfit. Made in Italy from supple leather, this pair has sharp pointed toes and thin stiletto heels." They are available in a number of sizes at Net-A-Porter.

Accessories included Kate's Kiki McDonough Blue Topaz and Diamond earrings.

And a new metallic clutch by Elie Saab.

A closer look at Kate's side bun.

What do you think of Kate's Ascot look this year?

I like the dress but I prefer it with the shorter sleeves you see in the Elie Saab Resort 2019. Although I understand why the short sleeves may not be suitable for Kate at Ascot. Love the hat too.

  2. Love the hat, not liking the dress so much (at least as much as we can see so far). Great color though!

  3. Oooh so pretty!! Can’t wait to see the full dress.

    1. +1 Theresa! This dress is so Kate and soooo fabulous! I love that she wore a hat similar to the one she wore at Trooping the Colour in 2016 because that was 1 of her best looks in my opinion and today's look is right up there as well. I love everything about Kate's outfit today and don't even get me started on the bag and shoes :)

Ok I want to love this and I’m torn. The dress has one too many things on it. If it either didn’t have the bow or had less lace or was sleeveless, It would be better. But it’s a little too much as it is. Ditch one of those things and I’d be drooling, but with all of that it’s a little busy. The skirt is to die for though. It must look so pretty when she moves. Also love the hat! Looks like the pink one that she wore to trooping the color a few years back?

    2. I agree, it is a very busy dress. HRH looks great as usual though. Her smile is her best accessory!

    3. I feel the same. There's too much. Pity, because the colour is lovely on her and the gown is beautiful.

I agree, i think with the hat embellishment and the long sleeves the bow is just too much, my first impression. great color on her and really love the hat! can not see much of those shoes? and im just dying to see what QMax has going on on her head:) shall await more photos

Agreed - the dress with the shorter sleeve is better, or long sleeve maybe with her hair in a 1/2 up, kill the neck bow?? There is an awful lot going on. Color is incredible on her, the length of the dress is dreamy. She can literally wear almost anything.

I LOVE Maxima's dress. She is on point yesterday and today. Very classy and fashionable.

      Delete
    7. Very, very pretty. I prefer it so much to all-over lace dresses or dresses that have a "rope" of heavy lace going down the arms. The skirt is really beautiful, and I really like it all. The original short-sleeve version is gorgeous! I love Zara's hat, too. Sometimes she does not look as beautiful as she is, but today she does. Maxima's hat is incredible!! One of the few events where the hats can match Kate's hats. It would be lovely if Meghan and Harry came to Ascot one day this week.

      Delete
    8. I was going to say the same thing. Too fussy. Without the bow, and a hat without the flower embellishment would be an improvement.

      Delete
    9. No Rita, don't kill the neck bow...I love busy and not boring

      Delete
    10. Totally agree. I wanted to love this overall look but there’s so much going on on the top part. I think it would be better without the bow. Her hair and hat are gorgeous. The skirt and accessories are to die for. Hope to see she re-wear this skirt one day, with a different top maybe. 🧐

      Delete
    11. Or maybe Mela, she re wear the skirt with the top on the model, with her hair down in soft curls at a less formal event.

  15. Kate looks STUNNING!!! I love everything about this dress as well as her hat and shoes. She has been knocking it out of the park recently!! On a side note, I am so happy she did not wear a white dress this year after wearing one for two years.

  22. Very summery and pretty soft blue. Love the skirt. I think the sheer sleeves and lace make the shirt-dress top less business like to go with the party going on in the skirt. Dress includes some of Kate's favourite elements- bows, long, cuffed shirt sleeves, and lace, and she looks absolutely lovely!

  26. I Love the way the are all colour coordinated this year. it really stands out in photos. It was the same for the photos of Charles's 70th birthday, they wore blue and white I think and for Louis' christening (but Meghan ruined it as such when she wore olive)

    ReplyDelete
  27. There is also a fab photo of Kate laughing really hard with her tongue out on the daily mail....its brilliant. So relaxed, it looks like she really is having fun with Zara, Eugenie, Beatrice and co.

  28. Love the dress. The skirt especially. Elie Saab is a great designer and has proven again and again to be one of the best designers for royal occasions. His gowns are another level but this day time dress is beautiful too. The colour is gorgeous. And while the top is a bit much it still looks great. I don’t like the hat with it though.
Surprised she didn’t wear white. The last years made me think she would make it a tradition.
Now, can we finally get a proper Elie Saab gown? Pretty please!!!

    1. After reading the updated version I think I know what my problem with the hat is. Loved the pink one but it sat much more diagonal on her head the the neckline was deeper too. This balanced out the big flower. Worn like this the hat crushes her a bit.
With the dress being actually a two piece set I hope we will see both pieces again. The blouse would look very cool with skinny jeans (+ the silver heels). The clutch mustn’t need to resurface again though.

  31. I think she looks great. I like the sheer over the slip and it’s a beautiful color. The hat in pink was one of my favorites so I’m happy to see it in blue.
I’m honestly not a fan of pussy bows period. It’s just not my look. It can look fussy. But with Kate’s slimness (and I mean just in her bone structure, she is just tall and slim) she can pull it off. I think if the bow was worn a little lower, looser and more carefree looking it wouldn’t look so prim.
But I think the sheerness of the dress offsets the pussy bow as well. And I love her hair.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anon 16:15, agree with your ideas on the bow. I also noted that in the stock photos of the skirt and top it was teamed with a "heavy" belt that also helped edge the look up a bit. Those photos also show a looser bow and you are right if she had simply relaxed the bow at the neckline it would have helped.

  32. It’s frilly and fussy and I love it!

  33. Looks like it’s blue day for the majority of the British Royal family. So far the only exceptions are Sophie and (to some extent, cause her hat is still blue) Zara. Whilst everyone looks polished and rather elegant, I am not a huge fan of the particular Elie Saab Kate chose. It’s safe, I suppose. But that designer has many beautiful designs that would have made for a more character-filled sartorial choice. I don’t think the silver shoes work well either. I feel slightly disappointed, that said I only feel that from a ‘show some personality’ perspective. Even Her Majesty was a little daring with her choice of hat. Sophie (again) certainly shows she is comfortable with some variety. Her jumpsuit last year was one of my favourite ones.

Well, let’s hope that the upcoming days will be filled with some excitement.

  37. I love this time of year for royals b/c there's so many outings. I like the color of Kate's dress and I love the hat, but the overall look of the dress is not that great. I like the lower half of the dress, but the top is a little off to me. Maybe if the bow wasn't included and a different neckline, but this look is typical for Kate. On a side note, I have to say that Queen Maxima looks fantastic!!! Only she can rock that hat. Amazing. She also was best dressed to me at Order of the Garter yesterday. It's plain to see that she loves clothes and has fun with her outfits.

  39. I never complain about what she wears and I never say, she should have worn something else, but she looks like an old lady in this. The shorter sleeve version is so much better...I don't mind busy, actually, I love busy. it's 2 pieces...wish she had worn a skirt in the same or similar color that was fitted and at the knees, not to her ankles. I swear tradition means keep people in the dark ages. She is a young vibrant woman and my 1st thought was MY GOD she looks old! Having said all that, she looks lovely!. Shoes and bag are spot on

  40. The clutch is from Elie Saab. Crown princess Victoria have the same. I never thought that she will wears one day an Elie Saab outfit so when I have seen the clutch,I was surprised. During ascots she always gives a very vintage Edwardien feels in a good way. She definitely loves bows and péter pan collar.

  41. Kate looks gorgeous. Beautiful dress and lovely on her. As some others have noted, i would have loosened the bow a bit and paired it with different shoes, however I did like the silver clutch with it, so maybe silver shoes but an edgier look. Her hair was fantastic. All the women looked great. I had never seen Maxima with her hair down, wow she is beautiful.Loved her dress and Zaras look also.

Don't you wish there were lip readers who could translate what was being said in the carriages in the video? Camilla seemed to be telling a rather wry story and Kate then commented, it looked like in agreement. It reminded me of a scene from Downton but in Downton we would have known what was being said, dang it. And Maxima's hat! You could see it from across the field in the video--love it!! I just wonder how on earth they packed it to bring it. A giant hatbox??? Thank you Charlotte, this was such a fun post :)

  45. Ooooo! Positives first: I love that she didn't wear white! I was worried that she would stick to that as her theme going forward at Ascot, and so I was very pleasantly surprised to see this today. I also absolutely love the skirt - perfect length, and some interest with the dots. The accessories being silver was also a lovely surprise. Way to branch out, Kate! Her hair looks lovely - I have tried these side hairstyles and they always look weird on my head, so I appreciate that she can pull them off.

A few downsides (but not many!): I'm not in love with the hat. It's alright, but I want more for Ascot than "alright". Also, the top has one too many elements for me - remove the bow and it's sheer perfection. I think that if the top was paired with jeans, I would be okay with this many design elements, but with the skirt it is just one too many. Finally, I'm just not in love with her Kiki earrings. They are appropriate, and better than those flower button ones she's been wearing, so I'll let them slide, but I always hope for something more.

Overall, I give this outfit an A-. What a great surprise for me to discover over my lunch break!

    1. Yes, we’ve been spoilt with appearances by the Duchess! :) I agree with your A- rating & also your views on her Kiki earrings. I used to love them but I would like to see Kate’s earring collection evolve.

    2. Kiwi Girl - we have been really blessed this year by the amount of appearances, and by surprise appearances especially. I know there were several extra outings with the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the Blue Peter special. Beating the Retreat may have been on her schedule, but caught me by surprise.

I think the earrings are kind of like her wardrobe. I appreciate that she doesn't buy everything new. I enjoy seeing repeats, especially from those early years. I also appreciate that there is jewelry that the Queen wears from early in her marriage. But Kate's style has changed and evolved over the last eight years. And I think that her jewelry can do the the same thing.

Maybe the Kiki earrings could be put aside for a while, and then when I saw them, it would be a nice call back to these early years. Or take some of them and set them aside for Charlotte. That would be a nice sentiment as well.

  46. Funny how the long sleeves makes this outfit so "Mumsy", I prefer the short sleeve version. Or she could have raided someone's great great auntie's wardrobe for a teadress from the 1920s or 1930s? Then it would have been right on trend. Any one for tea?

    1. Hello Jax,

I seem to recall aides said it was down to scheduling conflicts. The Cambridges spent a large portion of the year in Norfolk and before that in Anglesey. I do think we'll see them in attendance annually from here on in. It's steeped in tradition and means a great deal to HM.

    2. I am sure I have seen the Duchess of Cambridge at Royal Ascot in 2011.

      Delete
    3. Kate attended the Derby in 2011 but not Ascot. She wore a sophisticated suit to that - which is more to my taste but she does love the romantic 1930's look for Ascot. In fact a number of the royal ladies are going for that look.

I like lace and the transparency and material of the dress. The colour is wonderful as is the hat and I even like the silver shoes. But overall, the look is a bit much for me. The original shorter sleeves would have been better - more youthful. But I'm glad not to see white lace which was so bridal.

All the ladies looked nice - Maxima's hat was a bit much too for my personal taste but I would expect nothing less from her. Sophie looked pretty - also very romantic. I didn't think Beatrice did blue lace as well as Kate - but I'm not fond of those uneven hems which are so of the moment. I liked Eugenie's dress in theory - more to my taste but I believe the expression I've heard - her headlamps are showing!

The queen looked lovely and is the winner for me. I wish I'd been there - I would have chosen Circus Maximus for certain - such a wonderful name - and won a little!

    4. Thought the same thing about Eugenie. In fact there are some pictures of Eugenie, Zara and Kate where their expressions might lead one to think that's exactly what they were thinking and talking about!! Eugenie has this look on her face, like, "it's not what you think, it's really just the darts in my dress"!:P

The Duchess looks so beautiful today! It does have an Edwardian flair! I looked at a Daily Mail article with many pictures of the Royal ladies. Catherine’s look is always the one that catches your eye! Maybe because of those intricate details. Also there’s a soft flowing beauty to it, that adds to the elegance!

  69. I LOVED this dress! One of her best looks, in my opinion. I love the texture of the dress, and it is such a beautiful color on the Duchess.

Beautiful blue hues this year for a change, I love it! I wish Harry had been there, it would have been fitting, even if Meghan stayed home with baby Archie.

  71. I LOVE the camraderie between William and Kate and Zara and Mike!!! They seem to have a really great relationship and its enjoyable to watch. There is an adorable video on Instagram of Mike tipping his hat in front of the Queen to reveal that he keeps something inside, it looks like a brush, IDK, but can't imagine it's for him!!! :) It's pretty cute!! Looks like a fun day for the royals! cc

  72. This is look is perfection on the DoC in my eyes today! Zara looking so elegant today I almost didn't recognize her, the York ladies looking lovely too but countess of Wessex is a miss today just don't like the print of her dress and the fabric repeated in her hat. Was there a wear shades of blue memo go around the BRF?? ; ))

  73. I love Kate and almost everything she wears, especially her recent evening looks, but I felt this dress was completely inappropriate for Ascot. Especially paired with the silver shoes, it looked like it belonged at a cocktail party or dinner at a high end restaurant. All of the other royal ladies were wearing what were clearly day dresses and looked appropriate and in most cases, pretty good.To me, this was a big miss. Sorry not to be able to support Kate this time.

  74. Love the skirt, but prefer a shorter sleeve blouse with it. The long sleeve, buttoned up with bow, is a tired look we get too often from Kate.

  75. The Duchess always looks lovely in blue. The details and drape of this dress are elegant - very memorable and fashionably delightful. Congratulations to Elie Saab.

  77. Stunning. Catherine far and away most beautiful woman there. Elegant and regal. Did not care for Queen Maxima’s outfit at all and a rare miss for Sophie (IMO}. With all the firepower present with the European Royalty the DofC OWNED these 2 days!

  78. I wonder why King Willem-Alexander wasn't sitting next to the Queen in the carriage, as the most important royal figures face forward. Maxima is the queen by marriage. I found this strange, especially b/c of the issue brought up with the procession at The Order of the Garter, with Harry and Meghan being in the lesser position and the more senior royals, Kate and Camilla facing forward (prominence, better photo ops, etc). Strange indeed.

    1. I did quite a bit of research after the Trooping on that topic and it seems when it comes to carriages, gender trumps precedence.

The forward facing seats not only make better photos but you are less likely to get car (carriage) sick when facing forward. Hence the men, gentlemen that they are, will always take the back facing seats.
You can look at all the carriages at Ascot, Trooping and Garter, the men consistently take the backward facing seats.

So yes, the whole fuss some people made about H&M taken the less prominent seats, was much ado about nothing. Harry will always be facing backwards. The exception was last year’s Trooping where the only other person in their carriage was the Duke of Kent, so Meghan, being the only female, got the forward facing seat. And Harry sat next to her. If there was another female in the carriage Harry would have given her the seat next to Meghan.

An interesting scenario would be if Charles, Camilla, Kate and Meghan are in the same carriage, Charles would (most probably) take the back facing seat, but will Camilla sit next to him or will Meghan? Maybe somebody knows the answer.

    2. Very interesting RachelZA! In answer to your question, my guess (and that's all it is) would be that Camilla would take the seat next to Charles, much like Meghan took the seat next to Harry at the Trooping and Camilla and Kate had the facing forward seats. If gender trumps precedence, then the ladies would take the seat and if I'm Camilla, I'm going to sit next to Charles IMO.

    3. Ladies are given the forward facing seats (also true traditionally in train carriages and limos). I guess seniority might come into it if there are more ladies than forward facing seats. We see Camilla and Catherine facing forward opposite their husbands in the next carriage as well.

RachelZA - That was a fantastic post you made! thank you for the mini lesson. As for a C&C kate and meg carriage ride, is it possible that Charles would take the forward facing seat with Camilla and have kate and meg sit across from them? I suppose that would be a far fetched carriage ride? so many little things to learn! Thank you.

Thank you for your research, RachelZA! 🌷How true and simple: men acting as gentlemen, offering the ladies better seats. I love it!

  79. I love the dress! It was very appropriate for the occasion, and She accessorized it perfectly with the hat, earrings and shoes! A beautiful color and she looked gorgeous and happy! ❤️❤️❤️

  80. The skirt is beautiful, although it looks like it would be better suited for an evening engagement. But the top... I just can't. That pussy bow - they should be banned! It makes her look dowdy and aged. And all that lace and ruffles, and sheer fabric. Too much. I really don't like this look at all.

  81. Charlotte ma’am, she looks so pretty 🙃!! I mean only she can pull off silver pumps in that fashion and look stunning as usual.

  82. The silver pumps and bag are a miss for me. Metallic was the new neutral 3/4 years ago but not so much now especially not during the day. I also wish Kate would push her sleeves up a little it truly gives a long sleeve a better look. Her fashion statements remain so inconsistent. I am past the My Fair Lady look considering how absolutely fabulous she can look in the fashion statements of today.

    1. Actually the runways were full of silver metallic shoes for spring/summer 2019. Of course Kate isn't wearing one of the weird funky styles but the silver metallic is spot on.

  85. I have commented on the fashion, but I also have to say that the family interactions this year looked very relaxed and joyful. All those that attended I think have settled into their lives a bit. The fashions over the last few days have been wonderful to see, the dresses, the HATS!!. Maxima and her husband seem to mesh so easily with the BRF, it is so interesting to see. I know there have been some comments about the elitism of various events, but there is also something to be said for traditions and patterns in life. I tend to view most people in a positive light so even if something in the past was not so wonderful, I have faith it will evolve.

  86. I love this outfit! It reminds me in a good way of the ultra romantic fashions of 100 years ago, beginning with 1916 ball gowns. They were somewhat ornate, but oh, they looked and moved with such lovely lines! So I definitely like the combination of a lot of elements in that top and the complementary skirt. The silver accessories were perfect with it. It looks like the Cambridges had a lot of fun with the cousins too.

I wondered about all the blue and the contrasting pinks of the Duchess of Cornwall and Countess of Wessex, and it occurred to me to wonder if the family decided something like, "Let's have all the granddaughters and granddaughters-in-law in shades of blue, and the daughters-in-law in pink." Anne is the standout in a neutral shade, but her scarf has pink in it, so maybe she consented to go along with the idea in her own way. (This is all my imagination, of course!)

  87. Miss Marple! I'm half expecting her to solve a few crimes and all....

In DM I noticed Maxima in a beige miracle of a dress. Wow! Now that's flair for fashion.

  88. ELIE SAAB! Swoon! 😍 I love the colour, swishy skirt & silver shoes. But the hat & fussy top spoils it, unfortunately. Like others have said, I really wanted to like the whole ensemble. Hopefully we see her in one of his gowns sometime soon 🤞🏻

  90. Royal Family, this is what dreams are made of. Beautiful dresses, hats, carriage rides....Then tea!!! Spectacular!

The only thing that could have made it any better is if Prince Harry and Megan were there.

I love the Royal Family. I don't have words. Elegance personified Always. You can be so proud, and especially proud of everyone you represent.

  92. I LOVE this look! I don’t know if I would wear it myself because the front is a little busy and I tend to choose simple, but she carries it off so nicely.
And again with Maxima’s hat! Certainly not something just anyone could wear!

I think this look is beautiful and so in keeping with the other fashions associated with opening day at Royal Ascot. It is romantic and classic and just a beautiful shade on our girl. It is the style she likes and she looks like she feels good in it. The metallic accessories just take it up a notch for me.

  94. I'm not a fan of this dress. The tie on the top looks dated to me. I think the dress is too old looking for Kate-it doesn't match her age. I love the hat and hair!

    1. thank you Diane...the dress is old looking, but it's beautiful. I love busy so I don't mind that. The way it was styled by the designer was young and attractive

    2. The tie at the neck (pussy bow, as they call it) is very on trend in Europe right now. Styles tend to cycle back in 20 and 30 year periods.

  95. It pains me to say it, but I think Kate’s dress was far too busy. Loved the color, loved the hat, but between the bow, the lace and the polka dots it was just too much. If the front of her top had been as simple as the back I would be much happier.

Kate herself though looked great and I loved seeing so many of the family together.

  96. I really love this look, beautiful hue, beautiful hairdo and love the shoes and earring as well.

  97. I haven’t commented on her dress yet because I can not make up my mind. If I look at the dress in detail I don’t like it. But I agree with whoever said that if you look at the photos of yesterday, your eyes always goes to Kate. Even though half the royal family wore some shade of light blue, it is Kate that stand out. So even though I don’t like it, for some reason it works.

  99. Kate looked beautiful. However, I saw an interesting internet piece showing Diana's Ascot outfits through the years. Except for 1981, her creations exuded sass and style though they were immensely appropriate. I wish Kate would be a bit more daring in her choices. She certainly has the perfect body to showcase style--just as Diana did.

    1. Lynn, with all respect and knowing that you comment was not meant to be negative, I have to say that Kate is NO Diana. If you look at Diana's choices you see Diana amd if you look at Kate's choices you see Kate. And that is the way it is. For some, Kate's style is not daring enough, for some it seems timeless and elegant, but anyhow you can just recognise Kate's style anytime.

  101. The blue Elie Saab outfit is perfection on Catherine with leather silver pumps and clutch. It is nice to see the Duchess break out with an outfit and accessories that is different and appropriate at the same time, now if she wears white leather pumps and clutch this summer season with one of her outfits that we can see, it would also be astonishing. 💙
