The Cambridges Visit DEC in London & Ice Cream After School as Term Commences!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge officially resumed engagements following Easter break today with a visit to the London headquarters of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) to learn more about their continuing appeal to support people affected by the horrific situation in Ukraine.

Since late March, the Cambridges enjoyed a skiing holiday in France with members of the Middleton family (Pippa was spotted certainly and I imagine it likely Michael and Carole were there). Upon return, they attended Easter service at Windsor before members of the family visited Her Majesty. George and Charlotte returned to school yesterday, and what better way to mark the commencement of term than with a well deserved ice cream after school? :) Coni Perfetto was delighted to welcome the royal customers and shared a snap of the trio chatting with another mum and her child.

Speaking of the Queen, it feels a perfect time to send Her Majesty the happiest of birthday wishes. Ahead of her 96th birthday, the monarch travelled to Sandringham, a place with cherished memories particularly with Prince Philip.

Now, back to today's engagement...

The Duchess noted the success of the appeal, which has raised £300 million so far, is "extraordinary".

William and Kate pledged to make a second donation to the effort.

The Telegraph reports William told staff, "We were saying with the background of the cost-of-living crisis you've raised £300 million in eight weeks -- that's incredible." Chief executive Saleh Saeed told the publication the couple were so "enthused" by their visit they planned on donating again.

The couple had the opportunity to speak to support workers on the ground virtually.

The Disasters Emergency Committee said, "More than 4 million people have fled Ukraine and another 7 million have left their homes to escape the conflict, leading to a huge humanitarian crisis. Heavy fighting, shelling and air strikes across the country have had devastating consequences for civilians. Homes have been destroyed. Families have been separated. Lives have been lost. At Ukraine’s borders with Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova, huge numbers of people are arriving with only what they can carry. DEC charities and their local partners are in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries providing food, water, shelter and medical assistance."

Hello! reports they heard stories from aid workers Diana Hiscock, Vanessa Maynard and Bethan Lewis shared their stories with the royal couple. They were joined by Hannah Richards, Director of Communications at DEC, and Saleh Saeed, CEO of DEC.

People writes:

'In March, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made a surprise visit to the Ukrainian Cultural Centre in London to hear about the efforts being made to support Ukrainians in the U.K. and across Europe. They met with members of the Ukrainian community and volunteers to learn about services being offered at the center as well as the challenges they continue to face.

They also brought homemade chocolate brownies and granola bars from Kensington Palace for the volunteers.'

If you would like to donate, please click here. Every penny towards the fund makes a difference. It is believed 18 million people are affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

The Duchess was in familiar pieces today.

She wore her Reiss Larsson blazer -- first seen during a visit to RAF Brize Norton last September.

The £285 item is described as a neutral piece "offering tailored simplicity", featuring wide peak lapels and button fastenings with front pockets. It's available in very limited sizing at Reiss.

Kate sported her L.K. Bennett Frieda Black Crepe Cigarette Trousers.

Kate accessorised with her Kiki McDonough citrine pear drops.

Heaven suggests the Duchess wore a new pair of Ralph Lauren Celia pumps.

And for Kate's off-duty look yesterday, she wore a printed dress by Cefinn, the elegant fashion brand of former 'First Lady' Samantha Cameron, wife of former prime minister, David Cameron. It's actually a label I anticipated we would see Kate wearing for some time.

The Cefinn Astrid leopard dress in 'mint leopard pansy' print is available in very limited sizing at Cefinn. The piece is described: "This new statement summer shirtdress is made for those days when you want to cover up but stay chic and cool. The maxi length and wide, A-line skirt in silk-viscose jacquard create a floaty silhouette, with the shirt collar and cuffs adding a formal touch."

Carly from Kate Middleton Style immediately ID'd Kate's loafers as the Russell & Bromley Snaffle.

Next Wednesday, Kate and Princess Anne will team up for their first joint engagement with a visit to the Royal College of Midwives and Royal College of Obstetrician Gynaecologists headquarters in London. It's an area which they both support and hold patronages in. Before that, we can expect new birthday photos for Prince Louis's birthday tomorrow night or Saturday.

  1. Happy Happy Birthday to HM. Adore the photo of HM and her ponys. I am thinking HM may now take up permanent residency in Prince Philips cottage. Love both of Kate's fashion statements today. I especially like that just like every Mom she changed her shoes after her morning engagement to run errands with the children.

  2. First of all, Happy 96th Birthday to Her Majesty! Such a great photo.
I am glad for today's visit and their commitment in supporting the cause pro-Ukraine. It's such a terrible situation in the midlle of Europe and so many people need our support, small, big, whatever we can do counts as well. We need to be together and united.
As for Catherine's style, it's just perfect. I really like her green dress at the ice-cream shop. BTW, look at those giants ice-creams :) ... Lucky them!
I can't wait to see Prince Louis' b.day photos.

  3. So they’ve already donated. I wonder why the charitable actions of the C get so little attention and publicity. Notice that it was the charity’s CEO who reported it, not KP.

  4. Kate always looks great. Is anyone else curious about how long her hair has gotten? It's all the way down her back. She had great hair. This is longer than even her college days? Thank you,

  5. Like this wearing of the blazer better with these slim black pants and heels. I know today’s fashion isn’t the focal point compared to the cause :) love the birthday photo of the queen! Thanks Charlotte- Sue

  6. I like both outfits and am particularly pleased to see more fitted trousers. I suppose the occasional candid photo is not too intrusive but I always feel a bit guilty seeing photos from their 'off duty' time.

  7. That school dress is beautiful!! And so nice to see Kate wear loafers! That plus the after-church scenes on Easter really hit home that the RF has their "work uniforms" and then clothes like us, although this dress for ice cream is something special. It's probably not a good idea to know that K&W donate privately to a cause because they will get so many worthy requests. However, for the situation in Ukraine, anything that helps is good. Such a dire situation for SO many! And the Queen looked superb by her gorgeous ponies!

  8. Beautiful and elegant as always. It seems there is something sad in her eyes, but maybe is just me

  9. First a very happy 96th Birthday to HM Queen Elizabeth II. Today would also be my mothers Birthday, if she would be a life, she would be 106 years old. I hope the Queen is with many family members and has a grand time. Kate looks lovely for this work event.

  10. Those loafers would’ve been great for Kate’s engagement today. I wish she would not “always” wear high heels, a block heel would be better suited to this outfit.

  11. So happy to see them supporting the Ukrainian relief effort. I loooove her long hair. I lost mine to chemo in 2020 and I miss it so much.

    3. azalucky, wishing you well as you continue on your health journey after chemo.

As for Kate, I thought it was Pippa with George and Charlotte. It must be difficult to hit the right tone with off-duty attire. I think the look is a little pricey for an off-duty look. The dress is $475.00 and the loafers are $250.00.

    4. azalucky, so sorry to hear you had to go through chemo, but wishing you well on your recovery! Based on your comments, I imagine you are a very stylish dresser and am beyond sure that you look beautiful all the time! Stay strong!

  12. So happy to see the Cambridges return to engagements. Happy Birthday to Queen Elizabeth - that birthday photo is so beautiful and perfect. Well done! Glad William and Catherine had a joint engagement to the DEC. Love watching them together, they are the most in-sync couple I've ever seen and they always look to be genuinely engaged and enjoying themselves. The DEC does great work and it's good that their good deeds have been elevated by Catherine and William. Why am I not surprised that the royal couple made a silent, quiet donation to this organization? They don't want to ever make anything about themselves, and that is so refreshing in this world we live in today. Love Catherine's outfit. Polished, professional, subtle, and respectful. Perfect for the occasion. Also love seeing her dressed "off-duty". Those flats are great! She looks so relaxed and comfortable. Thanks for another great post.

    1. Agree with everything you said Donna USA! Not surprised either that W&C were quiet about their donation, its that part of their style that is admirable. LOVE the flats!!! Would look great with her day time event outfit as well! Nice to see a mix of day time professional, and daytime "off-duty"!

  16. What a beautiful cape coat Her Majesty is wearing in that photo, almost like a traditional old coachman's coat of the 19th century. How nice to see that one can still look chic at 96!

This outfit on the Duchess is polished and suitable for the engagement, but I've had such unfortunate experiences with Reiss and poor-quality goods that I can't praise it unreservedly. I agree with another poster that the loafers the Duchess is wearing with the Cefinn dress would look good with trousers, but I don't think they were the right choice for the dress, which they render a bit dowdy in effect. That reminds me that the Cefinn label itself just hasn't yet endeared itself to me. I always rather liked the way Samantha Cameron dressed, so I keep thinking that I should like her label and keep looking for something from it that I would like to wear. Somehow, everything I've seen is just slightly "off" in terms of appeal. I can't quite figure this out! Possibly the designs are just a touch too matronly? I'm not certain.
