Kensington Palace noted "the Duke, President of United for Wildlife, has long wanted to visit Kaziranga". William and Kate both adore the outdoors and this morning's event offered them the chance to soak up the beautiful scenery and see extraordinary wildlife.
Kaziranga National Park is a World Heritage Site and a wildlife conservation site of global significance. It's home to elephants, water buffalo, a number of bird species, the endangered swamp deer, and a high density of tigers. Kaziranga is also home to two-thirds of the population of Indian one-horned rhinoceroses.
Time for safari!
They both looked very excited as they set off.

Kaziranga recommend taking a jeep safari for an unforgettable experience: "Take jungle safari by open Jeep in search of one-horned rhinos, tigers, elephants, jackal, languor, monkeys, and many species of deer as well as a wealth of birdlife. Watching these many wildlife species in the wild will be your most cherished memory of Kaziranga National Park."

Kaziranga is a vast expanse of tall elephant grass, marshland, and dense tropical moist broadleaf forests, crisscrossed by four major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, and the park includes numerous small bodies of water.
Kaziranga is one of the few wild breeding areas outside Africa for multiple species of large cats, such as tigers and leopards. The park was declared a tiger reserve in 2006 and has the highest density of tigers in the world.

During their safari, William and Kate met rangers to discuss their anti-poaching efforts. There has been a number of concerning poaching incidents in the park recently. Rhinos are in particular danger as demand in other parts of Asia for their horns continues to rise. Traffickers in Southeast Asia are now marketing Indian rhino horn as ‘fire horn’ and lying about its increased potency when compared to African horn..

It was a very memorable morning for the couple. Kate opted for a casual-chic look today. The Duchess wore the white ruffled Gretna blouse with blue and gold diamonds on it by Australian brand RM Williams. The piece is from the Autumn/Winter 2014 Collection and sold out.

Kate's scarf is the Indian Embroidered Stole from Flora Garments (with thanks to What Kate Wore). It is described as "hand woven and embroidered in Kashmir, India, by the finest and most skilled artisans. Arrival Ensemble: I love that she went with something from McQueen. Her wedding was in McQueen and it kicked off a run of fabulous fashion choices. I am hoping that starting the tour with McQueen means the same. The bright color works wonderfully for the hotel arrival. She matches color to the meaning in the particular region quite well. It was also bright enough for her to be seen by any waiting to catch a glimpse.
The peplum detail keeps it from being just another shift, sheath type dress and adds interest. I also think it does good things for her figure. I don't mind the nude pumps but I never minded them as much as many did. She did wear them quite a lot which gets boring but I think in this instance they worked and they are, at least, not the same nude pumps as before.
Daytime Ensemble #2:
I absolutely love this look. It is young, fun and fitting for where they are touring. The wedges give Catherine the foorwear formality she seems to crave but give her a solid footing to play around on. The humidity must be formidable but I honestly love her hair in its more wild, natural state. It takes years off of her face. The earrings are so cute.
The look was not only beautiful and appropriate sartorially but it was very well done for the area they were visiting. Wearing a $5,000 outfit with $3,500 earrings wouldn't have sent the best message. This look is achievable, approachable and yet she makes it seem aristocratic. Lovely choices all around.
Oh Courtney I feel for you & hope they are keeping on top of your pain:( In the past 2 weeks I was in the ICU for 10 days after a severe (not as responsive as it should be) asthma attack, then home & back into ER & now am hopefully back home for good. But I too have been relishing The Tour & Charlotte's coverage of it! Isn't it nice knowing that we can check in day or night to read & if we just can't read based on meds etc. we know that we will have a bumper crop of coverage to catch up on when we next check in. But I haven't had surgery like you & am not in pain. So my heart truly goes out to you! I hope the Surgery went well? I also really do hope that they are staying on top of your pain to keep you as comfortable as possible! We've all been thinking about you & are sending prayers & good wishes your way!:) & You just keep the "Novels" coming:) It's great to hear from you so we don't worry:)

Day #1 Evening Ensemble:
ReplyDeleteFrom head to toe I think she nailed it. Elegance come to life. If she would fix her posture she would look downright regal. I like the low, less tight updo that she chose for the evening. Appropriate for the event but not as tight as we have seen in the past. She has quite a bit of hair and I imagine it can become quite heavy when done in certain elaborate hairstyles. I would kill for her hair. Her makeup was applied with a bit of a lighter hand it appears. Whilst most people go darker and more dramatic at night, I believe going light was the right choice for Catherine. The color of the gown and earrings is so vibrant and doing a neutral face lets it truly be the main attraction. The earrings are quite large but I think quite fitting for the event. I didn't see anyone dressed in an understated manner and I think that the large, bright, youthful earrings help keep Catherine's look from being too old for her.
The color is vibrant and full of life. The blue on Catherine makes her sparkle. It wasn't a tame, every day navy blue or a powdery silver blue (which Catherine can also pull off beautifully), but a color that screams life, fun and vibrancy. The silhouette is one that Catherine definitely seems to favor and I think that for the most part it works well on her. This blue gown is more elegant and grown up, in my opinion, than the red one she wore to the state dinner.
The neckline is very flattering and would lend itself well to a diamond riviere or any close fitting necklace in the future. Add a small sapphire circlet or tiara and it would be epic. Without the wrap this gown would be perfect for a state occasion. Perhaps a future white tie dinner for India hosted by the BRF as a nod to the visit.

The beading is exquisite and I love that it was sent to India to be done. I think it quite clever to use a designer she works well with, one who understands her body and fashion needs, but also include the host country. The beading on this gown is far superior to any embellishments done to the red gown. The skirt moves beautifully with her when she walks and swishes as is princessly appropriate. The train on the skirt adds a kicky little exclamation point as you see her exit that screams royalty.
For me day #1 was an unmitigated success and I am keeping everything I can crossed that it just keeps getting better from here.

Just to echo the short comment I made when I first saw this dress for just a moment. I thought it was so lovely. I am one of the many who could do without the pocket flaps but they don’t bug me overly much. The length and fullness of the skirt looked very flattering on Catherine and that can be a tricky skirt length to pull off. It was demure, elegant and I believe worked well for both settings that she wore it in. She is learning as she goes and you can tell she is trying to put the right foot forward and each tour seems to do a good job in letting a little of her personality out in her clothing.
I love the color and the fabric, whilst not a very fancy fabric, was beautiful. It moved with her and was lovely in motion. The sleeve length is also a tricky one to wear but I think she did that rather well also. I noticed in one of the photos of D&DcC sitting to remove their shoes how Catherine’s skirt seemed to be the perfect length for that chair. I think the dress being long enough whilst sitting to cover her legs was a very savvy choice. I also think it was tailored rather perfectly for Catherine and appreciate the weighted hems.
I absolutely adore the intricate beading and details on the gown the night before but the simplicity of the cream colored dress and light pink shoes was just as stunning in a different way.
Late afternoon engagement:
I had come across the Temperley online several times recently and have been coveting it ever since the first time I saw it. Since that wasn’t, and isn’t, a possibility I was desperately hoping she might wear it at some point. I love almost everything about this ensemble.
Starting at the top: I like that she chose to pull back the front part of her hair and leave the rest down. It wasn’t a black tie affair and I think an updo might have pushed it over the edge for the type of party they were at, especially with the dress she had on. A short cocktail dress with an updo is different in my eyes. I love when her natural curls come out to play. Even if they, most likely, drive her batty sometimes. Her hair is so lovely that I wish she would let it be at some points. I have always like the earrings and the makeup worked well that evening as well.
I know that it is probably just the weather in India but Catherine has been simply glowing with happiness, enthusiasm and love and it appears she is more comfortable in her own skin, and in her position, outside the UK. Black and white are my two favorite clothing colors and this look is divine. The embellishments and design worked well for the occasion and the skirt and top look makes it appear more youthful than some of her looks. To me she looks so much more comfortable her than at the gala the 1st night. Not to say she wasn’t engaged or having a nice time the first night but here she seems more relaxed.
I also LOVE all the new shoes she has worn so far. Whilst I wouldn’t choose some of them, it is nice to see her diversifying her footwear game. If this ensemble makes another appearance in the future, which I would love, it would be nice to see it at a more formal event with a fabulous higher up-do and some great diamond bracelets and earrings. A few diamond hair pins or ornaments would work as well.)

ReplyDeleteFirstly, I want to say this outfit looks well put together. And I would wear it for every day (BTW I got those sebago shoes this last month:)) BUT, I do not think the skinny jeans with such a form fit on the bum is apropos for such a high exposure event.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it. . .she doesn't wear pants to most events, but when an event warrants a non-skirt, it is a super, super skinny jean! Why? Why such an extreme! Why the need to show ones super skinny legs? But more importantly, I don't think showcasing one's bum like this is modest. This outfit is appropriate for everyday wear. . .but not for a duchess on a world-gawking high-exposure tour.

I don't think she see's it like that. This kind of pant is super standard, neutral jeans style. I don't wear pants/jeans but these are just nautral "just there" pants to me. I understand if you grew up when jeans were more wide and stiff. But to me, that has grown up where skinny jeans is the most basic of pants you can find, I see nothing "bum accentuating" about it.

I agree with Sara and Claudia. Colour is nice but I could find better alternatives as well. We all get she likes skinnies but I would prefer if she could showcase something else other than body parts, what about her personality for a start.
DeleteI really like the pants(and top) and think they are totally appropriate. Right now, that's pretty much the standard for jeans/khaki's for her age demographic(mine too). The Gap pants would totally work in an office, but might have ended up looking more formal here. William and Kate (in situations like this) seem ready and willing to jump in and engage, so anything that looks stiff or structured would be at odd with that.....in my opinion.
DeleteThe pants are not a great look in my view. It's not about jeans when I was young. When I was young women didn't wear pants or trousers to work or any public event. There's a picture of her buttocks in detail. Not appropriate. No, it's not her fault the photographer chose a rear view, but after so many years in the limelight, a bit looser style ought to have been on the list. This is a grocery shopping outfit. It's cute and she looks great, but it's a public engagement.

DeleteBefore I try and sleep I have to say really quickly that I love her outfit this morning for their safari. It appears to be comfortable which is a plus and it is not the skinny jeans she usually chooses. Just another small step out of her box, or a tiny toe over the line to check the temperature of the water. You can tell the flying, jet lag and busy itenirary are catching up with them a bit. Catherine looks a little tired this morning. Beautiful but tired. I would look far worse after all the miles they have clocked in the last couple days.

I know we have never met in real life but I feel like I "know" some of you because of how long you've been posting.

I really don't get the "disrespect" angle of having a short your. As I mentioned earlier, Royal tours are expensive to begin with and with the extra security over ISIS, I will have mixed feelings by the end of this week--sad that we won't have daily doses of W & K anymore but glad that they got through it safely.

They look tired but honestly, I'd be demolished (even if everything is so overwhelmingly stimulating and fun; hard to fall asleep between the excitement and the exhaustion.) Love their outfits. I am not sure if she had the chance to photograph anything at other engagements in India but the private even could have provided many wonderful photos that show the truth of these children's circumstances and help raise money and awareness.

These are also important issues today even though it is a fun trip. If the poaching is not stopped there will be no animals left for us to view in the wild, which would be tragic. For those of you who have instagram willbl is a photographer well worth a follow. He photographs mainly wild life and his images are incredible.I am only mentioning this to reinforce how tragic it will be if the poaching is not stopped.

ReplyDeleteI just have to say; Kate makes some slightly odd choices at times. She either looks mumsy in wedges (yes, they are probably practical, but so are the really stylish flats she wore the other day) OR like a 20-year-old in jeans so skinny that nothing is left to the imagination. This is a tour, not the school run.
Otherwise, the outfits are OK, but so far the tour is a bit ... flat. Sorry about that, but looking adoringly at William making a speech isn't enough for me. Grab the michrophone, girl, and say a few words.
I agree with the other posters, the late night, 4 days on tour are looking like they are taking their tool on this early morning for them. But wow, what an amazing time on safari they had and I'm so glad that they saw some animals. You never know what you will see. Most of the time when I go to zoos and such I only see the rears of most of them. ;-) Seeing them out in nature has always been a dream of mine and definitely safari is on the bucket list higher up than it was before.

She is going to have an amazing collection of them when she returns home from this trip. They have received so many beautiful ones that I hope we get to see them again.
These pants are the first thing of Kate's that I've immediately set out to purchase. She has looked fantastic this whole trip, though, I have to say. Unfortunate that most of these boho-style clothes will never see the light of day again once she returns to England.

She looks great! So happy it's a different combination from the usual skinny blue jeans, wedges and striped top which appears to have been permanently retired (yay). Commiserating with previous anon that all these great new looks probably won't ever reappear in Britain. Maybe her clothing choices will have a little more personality from now on though.
ReplyDeleteI actually bought these exact pants (in black) for my daughter last Christmas. My daughter's style is kind of artsy and edgy, so these are definitely pants I did not expect to see on Kate! I do like them very much, however, I agree with Sara from Canada, a cropped, slim fitting (but not tight) khaki, similar to what Diana wore, would be more appropriate, not to mention flattering. And no, I didn't grow up when jeans were stiff and boxy (I think that was the 40's and 50's!). My sisters, friends and I used to have to lie down in order to get our jeans zipped up!

DeletePam, I think you hit the nail; these jeans are channelling an edgy and artsy vibe (and I do love them!) but more appropriate for another scene than a high exposure event for a duchess--especially given what we have seen Indian women wearing in pics (and what I witnessed when I was in India).
She gave up on the mini butterfly clips in her hair (put them in her zipper pocket or did she hand them to William to hold? LOL--and it looks like her natural waves were showing. =) No need to do "much" on such an outting for sure--totally casual. Bet they've been skyping with their kids!

I don't think so, this is the sort of think all the mummies wear to drop offs and pick ups at my daughters (Miss 6 and Miss 5) very conservative school and the majority of them are older then HRH. I have the same pair in suede, they are really easy to wear and very comfortable. My the Duchess looks amazing in jeans..

ReplyDeleteLooked like a great outing for them and they appeared to truly love it - I would love to go on a safari. But I am astounded by her outfit and that so many liked it. Her shirt didn't go with the pants AT ALL. And the loafer didn't make any sense to me with the pants or the outing. Each piece of her outfit was a totally different style.

ReplyDeleteI was hoping for something like her Borneo look with the slim cargos - those pants I wanted - but I think this outfit is fine. I don't personally like these pants, though I think that's more due to the color than the style, and I'm not keen on this particular pairing of the edgier moto look with the ruffled top and boat shoes, but I don't think what she was wearing for this engagement mattered that much. It was appropriate for what she was doing. Exciting to see the animals!
ReplyDeleteGosh what another Amazing Day & Gosh what Tiny little Hips She has!:0 I absolutely love the photo of Catherine hugging the village girl, but I think it is the photo where they both have pulled back a bit from their initial hug, yet are still holding one another's arms as they look into one another's face with smiles that will become Iconic! I think if there was just one photo in all the world to sum Catherine up, it would be that photo! She has "The Touch" & "Grace" as if you know that She was born to hold this role & to leave her imprint on The World:)
ReplyDeleteI also have somehow stumbled upon various video clips of the Tour & have enjoyed them immensely. One thing I have noticed, & it is apparent watching her move in various dresses with no collar, during various events, this business some have mentioned about her "hunching" posture? I wonder if it's just the way she is aging..I Know, she's only in her 30's but I'm not entirely sure that it's her actually having bad posture, as much as if may just be her physiology? I haven't noticed it in Carole or Pippa, but it does remind me of that of various women in my family who are slender & lovely, but have this curve where the upper back/shoulder area meets the base of the neck? At first I just thought people were being picky, but now I've seen it myself consistently in various settings & with the dresses she's wearing on This Tour not having set collars & with her hair up more, it's a tad more noticeable. Hopefully its just good old fashion needing to improve one's posture (which we all can do to avoid back problems). Of course it could never detract from her Beauty inside & out.:) Oh & I loved coming across pics of her on stage with William at The Gala, when she was wearing the JP Gown without the shawl. Striking! I am sure we will see it again! :)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte, your coverage is wonderful. Looks like they had a fantastic day in the park. Seeing in person, what is being done to preserve wildlife, must be inspiring to both of them. I think Catherine has done an excellent job in selecting a wardrobe for the trip especially in light of the weather and the variety of settings. I agree with those who think today's outfit looked great and with the "bum envy" comment:) I kind of wish the comment section could be divided into two. One for the inevitable and tiresome "matronly, lazy, hate the hair" comments. And the other for the constructive comments.

ReplyDeleteAs someone who also takes photos as a hobby, I hope that at some point, some of the photos taken by Kate are released. I think you can learn a lot about a photographer by the way they take photos and how they show their subjects in them. It would be an excellent way to raise money for a charity of her choosing or even just to share a piece of her personal viewpoint on the world.
The beauty and gentle face of that tiger is adorable and hugable except until safety can be threatened.
