Following Trooping The Colour yesterday, Kate, George and Charlotte cheered on Prince William as he participated in the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy at the Beaufort Polo Club in Tetbury this afternoon.
Today marks Princess Charlotte's first appearance at the polo.
As expected, she made her debut in style.
Princess Anne's granddaughter Savannah Phillips stole the show at Trooping yesterday, she was on hand with her sister Isla for a fun afternoon with her cousins. In a number of the photos, Kate's chatting with their mother Autumn Phillips. Laura and James Meade were also there.
It's a treat to see the children playing together. This snap depicts a very sweet moment between Charlotte and Savannah.
The Beaufort Polo Club was formed during the winter of 1928-1929 and has become known as one of the friendliest clubs in England. It is home to the famous Tomlinson polo dynasty and plays host to the first Audi England International match of the summer. The Princes have played polo there for years.
The Gloucestershire Festival of Polo has long been a staple on the royal summer calendar. In fact, we last saw Kate at a polo match with George during the event in 2015. Since the early days of William and Kate's relationship, polo has always been a highlight, promising a fun selection of candid photographs of the royals. We've missed seeing the Duchess there in recent years, so it was terrific to see her return accompanied by two very cute royals :)
Three years later, George remains just as interested in his mallet :)
More on the Festival of Polo: "A mainstay of the British Polo and South West’s social calendar, thousands of visitors flock to the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo each June. The two-day spectacle, held at the Beaufort Polo Club, includes impressive top class polo, a tented shopping village plus arena attractions and a traditional funfair. Whether you’re a fan of the sport or simply enjoy a great social day out, the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo is not to be missed."
The charity match raised funds and awareness for two charities, the Royal Marsden, which William supports as president, and his patronage Centrepoint.
The match, which saw the Maserati team take on the Dhamani 1969 side, is part of the Gloucestershire Festival of Polo, hosted by Beaufort Polo Club from 9th-10th June. The Palace added "This match is part of a series of charitable polo matches that the Duke and Prince Harry will play in this summer. Their Royal Highnesses have taken part in polo fixtures in support of their charities since 2007, and have continued each year since, raising over £11 million for charitable causes to date."
Judging by the photos, it looks like Kate joined in a chasing game.
George makes a run for it.
A very sweet shot.
It appeared to be an incredibly fun afternoon!
A wave goodbye from the Duchess.
Kate was stylish in the summery blue Striped Off-The-Shoulder dress by Zara (with thanks to Laura for the swift ID).
The $70 piece is described as "Dress with a plunging neckline and open shoulders. Vertical gathering in the front and back. Belt at the waist in the same material. A-line silhouette. Front button-up fastening."
It is thought Kate's shoes are the £125 Russell & Bromley Coco-Nut ankle strap espadrille wedges (with thanks to Sara and Ashley). Crafted from soft sand suede with an adjustable tan leather ankle strap."The woven fabric heel cup and rope wedge sole evoke visions of long summers in the Pyrenees."
Kate accessorised with her Victoria Beckham Quincy Leather Tote Bag.
A special word of thanks to James Whatling for his outstanding photos this weekend.
We conclude today's post by wishing Prince Philip a very happy 97th birthday!
YAY! I love Kate at the polo! I totally understand why they don't do it every year since they have alot of places to take the kids for a day out that doesn't involve a photographer wall and large horses with 3 kids. But very happy to see her since I love these occations and what a wonderful day for George to have a day out with mummy and daddy. Charlotte and Louis gets that when George is in school so how wonderful that he gets a day alone as well :)
ReplyDeleteLove what little we can see of her look :)
“Yay!” was my first reaction, too, Rebecca :) Kate looks great & very summery! It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen her at a polo match.
DeleteHaha, never mind! Charlotte is there! So fun to see them together, and also hanging out with their second cousin again :)
DeleteI totally agree with you. But this was such a nice surprise and I love love them watching daddy play. What a wonderful weekend this has been.
DeleteThank you so much for all the wonderful posts and great detail I just love your blogs
Oh, such nice photos! Thanks, Charlotte :)
ReplyDeleteSo summery! Looks like Savannah is playing Big Sister to Charlotte again! So cute. I'm glad they have family their age to be friends with. =)
ReplyDeleteThat miniature mallet is too cute!
ReplyDeleteKate’s hair has gotten so long so fast!
ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing. I love it!
DeleteI think Kate's hair looks longer because it is much straighter. When hair curls up, it takes off several inches in length.
DeleteLove that the Prince, Princess, and Savannah are barefoot. Kids being kids. That's great. Love the dress the Duchess is wearing. Would love to see her smile.
ReplyDeleteThere are several photos of her smiling. Let us not perpetuate the notion that women should be smiling every moment of the day.
DeleteLonette, I agree with you. It seems she has not been the same since having Prince Louis. I have been wondering if she has had the baby blues at all, because in the last decade, it has been her nature to smile, naturally, often. In the last 3 events she just hasn't looked herself. By the way, I didn't take your comment as "perpetuating a notion that women should be smiling every moment of the day" I took it more as she just doesn't seem the same, and I have noticed it too. Hope if that is true, it passes very soon for her. The blues stink!
DeleteDo you think she suffers post partum depression or baby blues? Thinking of it, yes she seemed more severe during Harry and Meghans wedding and also during Trooping the colour. Whereas at this outing she seems to be "another person"...relaxed and in a good mood.
DeleteHowever I think, she must be quite tired with 3 children. We donˋt know if baby Louis is a good sleeper or a demanding baby. 3 Kids is a lot to do for mummy Kate :-)
I had 3 but the last one after the other two were much older. Everyone I know who went from 2 to 3 fairly quickly discuss what a shock it was. However having a Nanny help is huge as you do not feel quite so stretched and many more hands to run them around to different places. But still, it takes a chunk of time just saying a proper good night to everyone and spending a few minutes reading
Deleteetc.Plus you have the stuff with the other kids adjusting to another child in the house. She looks good and actually happy just a bit tired but clearly at the polo event she was well rested, confident the baby was happy and settled and able to chat with other grownup friends while still being with her children.
Good lord, it's walking a land mine with some of these comments! Smile more! Smile less! Women need not ever smile! If you look at video of Catherine, you know she is a person who has a lovely smile that she uses often. This lady never puts a foot wrong! And she was still on mat leave, so she is "off the clock" , if you will. Let's foster positivity, as the opposite appears far too often on the internet.
DeleteReally love seeing the ‘cousins’ together! Those holiday family lunches will be epic!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! It’s lovely to see Catherine, George, and Charlotte looking so carefree and casual! And I think it’s a subtle way of getting the children more used to the gaggle of photographers - the pressure is lessened when you have 2nd cousins to play with. 🙂
ReplyDeleteAs always, thank you so much for your wonderful post, Charlotte!
Love Kate's look - she looks so pretty with her hair natural in an easy sundress and sandals.
ReplyDeleteThe children are adorable - George seems to come out of his shell a bit more when around his cousins and Savannah and Charlotte are such cheeky little monkeys. I'm missing Isla though - maybe just not in these snaps.
I hope Mia will be able to join them at some point for even more lively fun. Zara's new baby must be due any day now.
Oh, that is nowhere near her natural hair! But I agree that her look and feel was so free and summery! Wonderful!
DeleteVery true! Her natural hair is quite curly. But I like the switch up to this straighter style, which looks different from her usual full blowout.
DeleteHee hee Rebecca, I agree she may be getting it straightened a few times a year to cut down on blowing out. Possible her hair has lost some of its curl after 3 pregnancies also. But it looked very pretty at the polo match.
DeleteI love seeing Kate in these more relaxed, summery styles! And with a minor wardrobe malfunction to boot - proves she's just like us after all! ;-) Relived for her it was only one button, though, with cameras clicking.
DeleteSo nice to see these two families out in the sun enjoying each other's company. Looks like the kids are quite close. Charlotte's somersault was too cute! Loved all these photos.
I was wondering about Zara too. She looked about ready to pop at the wedding.
DeleteYeah I was a bit concerned over that wardrobe malfunction--blessedly barely noticeable. *whew* lol
DeleteJust as a side note straightening the hair is done by a straightening tool that needs to be used frequently like blow-drying, versus relaxing which is done only a few times a year and is by using chemicals, if you see what I mean. It's possible she used a straightener and not curled the ends at all, for a more "casual" look.
Denise, you are correct I was referring to the chemical process.
DeleteAnd I was just thinking her hair looked relaxed and low-maintenance compared to those beauty queen curls she usually has that look like they took hours of time to create. I had no idea what a conversation I was opening. For a moment, I thought Rebecca was referring to extensions that some have mentioned here.
DeleteKate's hair curls naturally apparently and frizzes in heat - but except for her early uni days, she has worn it straight. Her preference I suppose. I like it both ways but except for evening, I like a look that isn't too heavily styled.
Glad to see Kate and the children there. Everyone looks relaxed and happy.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like such a fun day: great weather, hanging out with family—those are the lazy Sundays that I enjoy in my own life. I love Kate’ off-duty looks and the kids are adorable. I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: Charlotte is a little star! The sunnies, the tumbling, that smile! I don’t think she will have any trouble carving out a role for herself in the future! :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday!

Love seeing the family together! The weather is gorgeous in London today and it looks like they are sharing the same sunshine! It’s a beautiful day to spend cheering Dad on and soaking up the sun. I hope the family will celebrate Prince Phillip turning 97 today. Such a special day! 😊
ReplyDeleteLove these pics! It’s clear to me that their families get along well, and that’s so nice to see. I’m glad she gets to have “big kid” time with George and Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteI love her summery dress, and I think it’s much more flattering on her than on the model. It’s an excellent choice for her!
Thank you Charlotte for the pictures! These family moments are my favorite of all events. Kate looks so healthy and happy as do the children. She sure gets her exercise running after these two! Love her hair this way, and the dress and sandals are pretty.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely delightful pictures. The kids are adorable. Kate looks like pre engagement Kate... Stunning. She's a great mom!
ReplyDelete🌸 HALLELUYAH 🎉
ReplyDeleteTHESE are the photos we have always been longing for. 😊
Natural, natural and more free-flowing than any previous ones in my opinion. And the family vibes all the way around are beautiful and real.😉 Awesome.
Kate looks beyond beautiful. She looks unfettered and carefree. We haven’t seen that in quite awhile (no fault of hers, btw).
Whew. 🤗 SO glad to see these photos.
They are all one-of-a-kind phenomenal, in my opinion.
I agree. If we can see photos like this, even only twice a year, it would be lovely.
DeleteYes!!!! These are my favorite types of photos as well. Natural family pics! If I were Kate I would prefer this to the fancy outings. The kids are sooooo cute 😀 bare feet and all. I really appreciate Kate wearing moderately priced clothes and shoes. It’s refreshing and realistic. ❤️💜
DeleteThey do all look so happy, and Kate looks just gorgeous being so alive and happy and enjoying the day
Delete🌸 HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRINCE PHILLIP🎉🎉🎂
ReplyDeleteI fall in love with photos. It 's incredible amazing to see two children of William and Kate who are playing and running. It makes me aware how they grown up.
ReplyDeleteKate wears excellent, light, summery dress which everyone can find and buy.
Only if you get there fast enough. And that dress looks way better on Kate than the Zara website. So I guess that was lucky for me. Sigh.
Delete🌸 And, Yes. Thank You James Whatling for catching the Joy of the day in your beautiful photos. That must have been a delight for you to behold. Sure was for me. Thank You. 🤗
ReplyDeleteYour photos are always the very best.👏 xo
Very much appreciated.
Kate looks so young and care free! Great to see. I think the hair style and sun glasses combination might be adding to the throwback feeling.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing to see the difference between Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday Kate was every inch the royal. Today she's Kate - a mom to three beautiful children. I love seeing this - wonderful post Charlotte!
ReplyDeleteThe camaraderie between the kids is touching. It'll be fun to watch them all grow up.
Such a fun surprise! Everyone looked like they were having a lot of fun. It’s really cute to watch the kids interect. It gives some fun hints to personalities. We’ve always known Charlotte to be the sassy one but I suspect that George(though shy when confronted with a wall of cameras and people yelling at him) might take after his mom with a cheeky sense of humor! Hanging out with the cousins just allows us to see it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun filled afternoon!! Love the pictures!!
ReplyDeleteNot only were the Cambridges with the Phillips family, but I'm sure one of the women in a photograph in the Mail article is Lady Laura Marsham, who is married to James Meade.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! Those kids are having a good time. One magazine shows Charlotte doing a head stand! I think seeing Kate in that summery Zara dress, and the one before, reminds me that she clearly knows how to dress for "work" and play. Sadly, that's a lost art form in today's world.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you here, sometimes I feel like I am from another world enterly and I'm just 41 mind you eheh
DeleteBeautiful and amazing Catherine!
Silvia
What an unexpected treat! Thank you Charlotte
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures of precious time with the family! Love it! ❤️😊
ReplyDeleteSurprise! I looked back here to see the color described by Charlotte on Kate's dress for Trooping and here is a whole new post. Yeah! And what a fun post! The kids were the stars today. My parents were both only children, so I don't have any 1st cousins and pictures like this show me what I missed out on. I think it is especially important for the royals to have family they can count on as they grow up in the fish bowl. Charlotte is amazing. It is a treat to watch her grow up! The somersault was so cute!
ReplyDeleteGeorge and Charlotte don’t have any first cousins yet either! Pippa’s expected baby will be their first, first cousin. Savannah, Isla and Mia are their second cousins. :-) But it is great that they see each other. I have close relationships with some of my second cousins to this day, and our grown children (third cousins!) are all quite close in age and they keep in touch. It’s really nice; it’s a very grounding thing, to know the people that have the same great-great-grandparents as you.
DeleteI have no first cousins but tons and tons of second and third or however that works out (the ones my age are confusing because my great -great grandmother is their granny) It really doesn't matter much, labeling them. They were just really nice to grow up with. If course I hope the same for the Cute Cambridges.
DeleteWhat a wonderful post of the family outing. Kate looks stunning and relaxed. I'm so glad I already have that Zara dress, because now it will likely sell out. I purchased it a few weeks ago to celebrate my wedding anniversary, and I love it! Thanks for a beautiful post.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful dress---the model doesn't look very good in i but Kate looks terrific.
DeleteDaria, like you I grew up without cousins. Mine all lived in another country and I seldom saw them. For my own three children and my brother's three children, there has always been an amazing bond. Now, they are all parents with their own children and they make an effort to get together every few months. My grandchildren also love being with their cousins. Their parents (my kids) plan a cousin's get together at least once a month. For William and Kate's children ,they can't just go to a local playground, so having relatives the same age is a bonus.
DeleteWhat a beautiful family Kate looks beautiful thanks Charlotte
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad her long hair is making a comeback! Kate is in her element with the kids... such a fun, summery day!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I wish Prince Phillip a very Happy Birthday and many years of good health & happiness. I miss seeing him and his often hilarious quips! Such a wonderful treat to see Prince William, Duchess Kate, George and Charlotte, playing with their cousins at the Pollo grounds! Kate is so naturally gorgeous, ever elegant! I love seeing her interact with her children. George and Charlotte seem so happy and normal. You can see from the photos what a delightful, strongwilled, handful Charlotte may be. The thought of it makes me laugh! I hope she keeps her spunk, as she gets older. And, it is a joy to see George so happy, playing, and just be a little boy (with super good manners, of course). I do not mean to sound rude or critical, but I do wonder about one thing: Is it standard practice there for little girls to not wear shorts or bloomers-under their dresses? Some online newsites show additional photos from today, showing Charlotte and her cousin, playing or sitting on the grass, and their undies are in clear view. I was a little surprised about that. Maybe it's just a culture thing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the wonderful post & beautiful family photos, and all the heart, info, and, work you put into your site! Much appreciated!
They are just kids nothing wrong if you see their undies if you ask me but yes given their position and the press all over the place I can see your point
DeleteSilvia
Interesting comment from NC. We in the North East area of the US do not have our children wear shorts under their dresses. Summer attire is much lighter in fabric and can photograph one way but appear different in person. Culture thing? No not in most parts of the US.
Deletein photos from i think it was the Canada tour, with the kids, Charlotte did have on bloomers that matched her dress. I just assumed she had them on here
DeleteKate went to great effort when they were on the balcony yesterday, to cover Charlottes bottom when she picked her, you could see her puling down the back of her dress, so Kate does pay attention to these things
DeleteNothing wrong at all with a little girl playing in her dress with just underwear, even when my now 30 year old daughter was that young she wore dresses most all of the time with nothing but underwear.
DeleteI have the same thought---there's nothing wrong except they did not give their permission and the photos are forever as opposed to briefly seeing kids' underwear as they tumble around. If I were a little girl, as I once was, a pair of shorts would have made me happier!
DeleteWhat a fun day out for the Cambridges!
DeletePeggy, I agree with you about putting some little cotton stretch shorts (same colour as the dress) on under the dress, I always did that with my daughter. It feels more secure than just undies, and in today’s world with cameras everywhere, it’s sensible. I also wondered about George playing with a gun. My brothers and I had toy guns “way back when” and we didn’t turn out violent, but again, it’s a different world today. I didn’t let my kids play with guns, and neither did any of our friends. Interesting! I hope the Christening is soon, I am looking forward to seeing Prince Louis again!

Just adding to what I said about George playing with a gun, and a knife as seen on the news sites. I had the discussion with my very level headed son, who said "that is just training wheels for Prince George. He has been surrounded by armed guards and protection officers all his life, what did they think would happen". How true. George will grow up to know how to handle guns and weapons responsibly. He will hunt at Balmoral, and probably join the army, navy or airforce at some stage. He knows he needs to be protected at all times. So probably in those circles it is the norm to play with gun toys, whereas else in society, we are moving away from it. An interesting conversation to have though, no judgement on my behalf at all.

Maybe its cultural. I'm from the southern US & where I live girls wearing dresses who will be tumbling or climbing play equipment in public places often are dressed with lightweight cotton shorts or bike type shorts underneath or in cooler weather with leggings underneath. Of course, where I live girls also wear shorts frequently vs dresses for playtime. At home, running through a sprinkler in hot weather tiny children Charlotte's age (but not too much older than that) might wear only underpants. But that's at home or in more private settings. In public, you never know who has a camera or what an observer's motivations might be. And leggings or even shorts underneath may protect from some scrapes in case of a fall.
DeleteI have my 6 year old daughter wear shorts under her dress. Almost every time. Otherwise she pulls us her dress and exposes her undies. She is a rough and tough little girl, but likes to wear dresses. Also, when I wear a dress there are many times I still wear shorts underneat and I'm 30.
DeleteI've never heard of little girls wearing shorts beneath their dresses. They're little girls, they're going to play around and their underwear might show, so what? Charlotte should be able to play just as freely as other girls her age who aren't in the public eye and not worry about having her underwear show at age 3.
DeleteThis reminds me of Leonore of Sweden. The problem is not little girls playing and not wearing shorts, the problem is the media. It is incredibly inappropriate for a photographer to sell and for media to publish pictures of little girls with their underwear showing.
Maybe I don't blame W&K anymore for hiding their children away if people are going to publish pictures like these and their 3 year old daughter's underwear becomes a topic of conversation.
It is a relatively common thing to for little girls to wear shorts under skirts and dresses, and I don't think it has anything to do with what area of the US you're in. For younger ones, little bloomers are often paired with dresses in the stores. Currently Gap Kids sells "cartwheel shorts" just for this purpose. If Gap Kids is selling them, then there's obviously a market for them.
DeleteI was wondering why Princess Charlotte is always wearing a floral dress. Very cute, but for something like this I would have my daughter wear shorts and a T-shirt (upscale versions, of course, though for a Polo match).
I guess I'm too old to get the whole shorts/leggings under a dress fad. 😊 In my mind, a dress should be dressier than wearing jeans or pants. If I need armor under it, I will pass, thank you very much. 😀
DeleteI'm with 13.31. This calls for decency and, dare I suggest, a bit of common sense where the press is concerned.
My husband is in the military and we’ve lived in the south since I had my little girl who is three. She wears the little “playground” (bike) shorts. It felt more finished when she was in a diaper. I’m less inclined to bother with it now. I do think it’s required by some schools and that might be why it’s so common.
DeleteWe had this conversation almost 60 years ago in California. We all wore shorts under our dresses, since dresses were required at school in those days, and since we wanted to play on all the equipment on the playground at recess, and since we didn't want to continue to endure the teasing of the little boys when they caught a glimpse of our underwear.
DeleteI never heard of wearing shorts under a little dress - tights perhaps if it was cold. I must be showing my age too.
DeleteThe reason schools mandate biker shorts/shorts/leggings under dresses is that little girls, like little boys often do things like headstands, handstands, cartwheels, hanging upside down from monkey bars etc. and as you can imagine these activities can reveal way more than children in playgrounds need to be exposed to. Nobody wants girls to be made fun of because they were wearing glitter panties or whatever.
DeleteThere is nothing prudish about it. In the public sphere we all have to wear clothes so that we don't reveal private parts of ourselves. This is the same thing. Maybe this was not so much of a thing when you were growing up Julia - because I suspect that girls were often not encouraged to rough and tumble quite as much ?
I don't think it's a question of age. We have now learnt that shorts underneath dresses are a thing in the US but I have never seen them in Europe and while they may exist here, too, they're definitely not a big thing. And schools certainly don't mandate them here.
DeleteBut either way, maybe everyone could consider whether it's necessary or nice it is to discuss a 3-year-old girls underwear. I know you all mean well but I think it is weird to discuss a little girl's underwear, Princess or not.
Thanks so much for this comment. It is so wrong to sexualise a child, suggesting underwear should be hidden?! That must be a US sentiment (it does not exist here in Ireland) and should be deleted from this thread as very disturbing. She is 3!
DeleteI think the problem is that there are disturbed people out there and they need to not have any children as their visual outlet. Also, being only 3, why can't boys and girls both dress to have a good time?
DeletePeople here were just worried about Charlotte being photographed showing her undies, that’s all. There are cameras everywhere these days unfortunately, whether you are a princess or not. Little bike shorts under dresses are “a thing” in Australia, and are sold everywhere like Target, K-mart, school uniform shops and other children’s clothing shops. Little bike shorts are also incredibly comfortable and worn from a young age up to the teenage years. It’s just common sense these days.
DeleteRoyal 👑 Watcher
I thought shorts under dresses were so stupid gen I was little and that was also not something we did at my house. However - I don't know if it's the internet or what, and I will not give much detail here, but people who want to hurt children are everywhere. I'm shocked by the numbers. I'm shocked at people who use pix of their precious children or grandchildren as profile pix on Facebook. So I would much rather be safe and not worry.
DeleteThanks for the adorable post!!! I love to see Kate with the kids just being "Mom"!!! Kate looked beautiful as always! I would love to know what sunglasses she is wearing??? Love that Charlotte is copy catting her mother with the sunglasses!!!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this look. Charlotte is a natural. Adorable family. May every mother have moments like these.
ReplyDeleteAmen! :) xo
DeleteLoving everything about this day!!! Kate couldn't be more perfect for such an event. Can I just say that Charlotte is going to have a gorgeous head of hair just like her mom. The kids are just the cutest ever. I can't wait to see Prince Louis. I'm guessing he might look a lot like his big brother.
ReplyDeleteWas about going to bed...and found this surprise :)
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see them out and about like a normal family. The kids are adorable as always but the thing I like most is Kate...relaxed and smiling...and running around in heals! And that in this fotos we can see her maternal side :) Best fotos Iˋve ever seen of Kate and the kids...it shows them simply the way they are!
Love her off duty look...which makes her look much younger :)
So now I can go to bed with a smile on my face :)
Agreed! :) xo
DeleteI love Kate’s carefree style in these photos. The kids are having a great outing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Charlotte, for this wonderful surprise! The photos are just lovely! In some of them, one can see how much George has grown - the transition from a "little boy" to a "schoolboy" has never been clearer, at least to me. My absolute favourite is the photo of him jumping - almost flying - his arms and legs look so long and he has this flair of a really lively kid! William and Kate have been blessed with such beautiful children. And I'm sure they are very loving, caring and hands-on parents.
ReplyDeleteZora, I'm right there with you!! George is growing up. I was thinking the same thing; I absolutely see a difference here. And Charlotte will be a beauty like her mom.
DeleteThese photos brightened a cloudy and cool day here. I love seeing Kate in Mom-mode and it's clear how blessed the children are to have her. Likewise for William, of course. ;-)
I agree, royalfan: Charlotte will be a very pretty girl, and one with a strong personality! 😉
DeleteOh, yes. 😉
DeleteThought Kate looked amazing. So lovely to see her interact in a private way with the children. Being a mother is definitely the center of Kate's world and its clear to see she relishes every moment with them. Love these photos.
ReplyDeleteLove these pics! Love seeing the Cambridges out like this!!! My- George is now a lanky kid- he's really grown up this year! School agrees with him!
ReplyDeleteIt is always fun to see Kate in all her designer attire. However, for me the best are these candid photos seeing her look like the rest of us out with her family enjoying the day. I always think she is at her most beautiful without all the makeup and hair dos.
ReplyDelete+1 :)
DeleteI also think the extra weight Kate is displaying makes her look very healthy and glowing in the summers sun. As we age when we are very thin it can age us beyond our years.
ReplyDeleteI`ve decided that I think Charlotte looks like Savannah. :) And I`ve also decided that I am glad Louis was not a girl because this way George gets a brother and Charlotte, well, she appears to be very close to her cousins and that is sweet. :)
ReplyDeleteAny idea what the sunglasses are?
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love these pictures. I think you see Kate and the children's true personality. It also give us insight into how hands on Kate really is with her kids. I saw other pictures where George appeared upset, and just the way she had her hand on his face. Also one of Charlotte playing with her mom's hair and they are looking directly in each other's eyes. Like someone mentioned earlier, if we could get pictures likes this a couple times a year . . . perfect!
ReplyDeleteHope from USA
Well, this is a start! :)
DeleteHmm thank you charlotte. its nice to see cambridge out and about princess charlotte looks cutey and goofy And yes. Prince George is all grown up hmm kid i love there're picture together the duchess is bless with the beautiful family and being handown parents is quite nice the Duke and duchess Will relishes the seige these moment
ReplyDeleteBesides running downhill in wedges--a feat in itself---Catherine climbed up the Helter Skelter in them & a dress! LOL Looks like Autumn was up there too.
ReplyDeletehttps://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GrvwejYShok/Wx17YusaABI/AAAAAAAAb9w/15y-hZdHYt40y0jDu-6DWgLwcnNI0VDLQCLcBGAs/s1600/Kate%2Band%2Bcharlotte%2Bhelter%2Bskelter%2Bpolo.jpg
She is amazing! I don’t know how she does it...I’d end up injured for sure & I’m 5 years younger than Kate. She is in great shape :) #mothergoals
DeleteKeep in mind that she does have help and access to things most Moms don't when setting those goals. Her ability to walk in the highest heels I have ever seen sort of blows my mind though :) Its like she has some royal magic shoes I don't know about :D
DeleteThis dress is a little tight on Kate, but she wore it anyway, maybe in support of Meghan who was criticized for wearing a similar style the day before. Fun watching polo - the family looks to be so enjoying it all. Thanks for the great photos!
ReplyDeleteKate looked beautiful, and the dress was lovely. However, she needed to go one size up. It was just a bit too snug.
DeleteI think she wore it because she likes it and with her truly hour by hour changing body at this point she did not worry about it being a bit tight. When she first put it on it might not have been tight in fact:).
DeleteShe looked very cute in it.
I agree with you Ali, I think she wore it because she likes it!
DeleteI just had a flashback of Princess Diana running in a race at one of her son's schools. That picture of Kate running with her kids is so similar to me! I think both sons chose wives with many of the good qualities of their mother and what their mother instilled in them. So happy for them.
ReplyDeleteYes!!! :) xo
Deletewhat a fun-filled day for the Duchess and her children. I do wonder if she realized she had a button open on her dress. She really looked cute in that dress. It's nice to see her casual in a dress. I adore Catherine. keep up the great work Catherine
ReplyDeleteIf not for all the amazing photos with Charlotte and George, I would have thought this was Kate pre-marriage. I loved her earlier carefree style and straighter hair.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! She's having a "Benjamin Button" phase! :) She's looking younger, not older! :)
DeleteLove this! Kate looks so young and fresh. It's such a treat to have candid shots like these
ReplyDeleteLoved the photos! Kate is so relaxed and natural. In these photos, Kate's face looks a bit fuller. Usually she's so thin that her face is sometimes gaunt. She looks terrific now!
ReplyDeleteLovely Photos! Kate is beautiful and classic whether she dresses up or is in casual mode! My fashion weakness is sunglasses-I'm obsessed :) Any idea what Kate was wearing?
ReplyDeleteOh those gorgeous pictures. So carefree and full of fun. Kate looks so lovely. Her hair is beautiful, the dress is great. The children look so happy. She must be a terrific mother. You can feel the love from the three of them. What a surprise to see this terrific post.
ReplyDeleteThe children are adorable, I love these photos, the entire event! Good to see these three! :)
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures. What a wonderful day out! Kate looks beautiful in her carefree style. And the children are so grown up, expecially George. Nice to see them with their cousins. These images bring me back to my free days with my own children in maternity leave. The best period in life!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see these kind of shots and then having a playful summer afternoon. I think it demonstrates Catherine’s commitment to giving her children a wonderful childhood. She looks beautiful and in her element 😀
ReplyDeleteAmen! So well said, Mr. D! :)
DeleteOne word to describe Kate, glowing ! Apart from their titles, they could be any other family out and about on a Sunday afternoon. Beautiful family. Lovely to see them off duty and having fun.
ReplyDeleteI so agree!!!!! :)
DeleteWhat beautiful photos. I love her natural look. Actually, my first thought when I saw these pictures is that I bet she is nursing little Louis. When you're nursing you're just bigger, significantly bigger, and you have to wear a nursing bra and pads in the cups for leakage, and clothes don't fit as they should, and yes, buttons pop quite a lot. I nursed my kids and I remember feeling like I was popping out of everything. It might explain her more "strained" manner lately too. Maybe not a lack of smiles, or the blues, but just a growing baby having night feedings, and if she's nursing, a nanny isn't doing those feedings. All speculation, but anyway...
ReplyDeleteAs others have stated, I think these photos are so wonderful. She looks so relaxed and the children are surrounded with love.
And oh my goodness, kudos for her that she can run in those heels. I'd twist my ankle instantly!
Agree with some other comments that Kate looks younger and healthier when a bit fuller. Hope she wonˋt get super thin like at the time when she was married.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, somehow, her look, smile and hair reminded me of her pre-marriage style :)
I thought the same exact thing, but thought I was imagining things! :)
DeleteI was looking at all the photo again, can we talk about how good and in shape William look like in his polo uniform!? I don't think it was mentioned but he is really a prince charming imo XD
ReplyDeleteSilvia
I agree :)
DeleteYes we can ... and yes he is!😉👍
DeleteThey both are so attractive! Being parents has only made them more attractive & I love seeing them interact as a loving couple! It's such a joy to think back to their college years & then look at them today, seeing all their dreams coming true, as a loving couple with an adorable sweet loving family! They have such a loving partnership! :)
DeleteIn the third picture there is a baby sitting next to Kate. Somewhere else I saw a photo of the child's Mom sitting next to him. She looks like one of Kate and Williams long time friends, I think they went to her wedding or at least I have seen she and her husband in pictures with Kate and William. Does anyone remember who she is? Assuming she was there to visit with Kate and her husband was also playing? Not sure how these days go but are there multiple polo matches throughout the day or only one?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Lady Laura Meade. She and her husband James Meade are close friends with William and Kate. They're all part of the 'Norfolk Set'
DeleteYou might remember that James Meade often accompanied Kate to Polo, during the dating years! One or both are Godparents of W&K's kids. Yes, Laura was pregnant last year at Pippa's Wedding, we've seen her in pics! :)
DeleteThanks everyone, you saved me searching through photos:).
DeleteP.S. turns out that Kate hugged and air-kissed Malcolm on her way to William. Yay. 😊
ReplyDeletePrincess Charlotte caught up with her mom and they both congratulated William.😊
Such an adorable family and all looked happy and enjoying the summer weather! Kate loves her kids and it shows. I hope we get some more summer photos as the summer progresses.
ReplyDeleteI always felt very uneasy when my children were small infants and I had to be away from them for an extended time. I had to get over it quickly when I had to go back to work though. But when they were very young, under three months or so, any time I had to be away, or went alone anywhere like shopping, I would get very anxious and feel a desperate need to get back to them. Although they were in good hands with either my husband or my sister, but,it was an innate maternal feeling with no rational logic behind it. Perhaps this is all Kate is feeling now. I don't think she looks very down and I think it's quite a jump to think she might be suffering baby blues. Probably just the anxiety I described and exhaustion!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if we were looking at the same photos, but I saw a smiling & laughing Kate! I saw the pics here & on the link CeCe posted below! Kate looks amazing, laid back & like she's having such a wonderful day out with the kids & the cousins & friends! :)
DeleteI don't think she looks down at all or anxious. she is probably tired but I think she looks like she is having a great time with her older children. I agree, its quite a jump to think she might be suffering baby blues. she had a nice day out and im not willing to put any other emotions on her.
DeleteHow lovely to see Kate and G & C supporting William at the polo.
ReplyDeleteThis particular event is very much a family day out especially on the Sunday and the weather couldn't have been better for a day of fun.
I am so glad Kate took the children to support William and we saw just what a lovely family the Cambridges are and what a natural hands on mother Kate is interacting with G & C who had a wonderful time both with Mum and their cousins and other friends. I would have loved to see some photo of them coming down the helter skelter however the wonderful photos we did see gave us a real feel of just how lovely they are. George has really grown into a lovely little boy and Charlotte is a real character I feel put her together with Mia and wait for the entertainment but it was nice seeing the friendship between Savannah and Charlotte. I believe Laura Meade was pregnant when she attended Pippa's wedding so I wondered whether the little boy who appeared to be quite young was hers'.
I do hope we see Kate & the children more often at the polo especially now they are based at KP during the polo season.
William has always been close to Zara & Peter and Kate appears to get on very well with them and their families
Well my Monday has been made!! What a pleasant surprise! Kate's beauty shines though in these moments. Love her dress and really loving her hair. What a wonderful outing with the children and so nice we get to share in these photos. There is a saying that your cousins are your first friends and it looks every bit that the Cambridge children and their cousins are just that. Picture of Savannah with her arm around Charlotte is adorable. I see a family full of love!! cc
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Cece. Such wonderful images of a healthy, happy mom and her little ones. ☺️
DeleteSo many great pics, but I just melt when I look at that pic of Savannah with her arm around a cuddling Charlotte! :)
DeleteLove that she never pulled out a phone like so many parents do!
ReplyDeleteA few more photos from the day....good job James Whatling of capturing what looked like such a fun day for the Cambridges. Love the picture of Kate and Charlotte looking at each other, you can see the love on Kate's face!! :) These are the moments for which memories are made to be memorialized. cc

Thanks so much for this link, CeCe! Wonderful to see these shots of the children having such fun together. I did a double-take at the photos above your post that show Kate running in those heels - she must have iron ankles and the balance of a trapeze artist!
DeleteThanks for the link CC!! Cousins, Cousins, Cousins, it doesn't get much better than a day running around & playing with your cousins! :) I just keep falling in love with Kate all over again as the years go by & she enters new phases of her life! Each time she just strikes such an amazing balance between her private & public life & her beauty just radiates! Her beauty is clearly from within! Mike & Carole did an amazing job of setting the tone for what a natural, organic, authentic family is all about. Combine that with the closeness of the Windsor Cousins & the strong sense of family set by The Queen & Prince Phillip & voila.... an amazing family in The Cambridges & the other young Windsor Families! :) Sweet Happiness All Around!! :)
DeleteI need Kate to stop wearing such darling and affordable dresses- this is the third since May I couldn't help myself but to purchase!
ReplyDeletelol :)
DeleteKate is so relatable and relaxed (if not slightly disheveled). It’s nice to see, actually. I’m sure she chose a dress because pants post-birth are awful. Previously, she’s snapped so fast. It’s lovely to see a sort of more typical new baby look (well. Typical except the perfect hair and clean clothes. )
ReplyDeleteI agree that little shorts for Charlotte would be great, but only because of photographers. it’s unnecessary, really. She’s a little girl. It’s just underwear. The world will try to make it into a big deal and that is sad.
And as for George and the gun- better to let him play with it and set appropriate boundaries (no aiming at people, etc), then to pretend it doesn’t exist. In his world, it most certainly will. And frankly, he probably sees armed guards and members of military often enough. Why not let him play pretend soldier? Forbidding it only forces the behavior into hiding. It’s normal and no big deal.

It's so lovely seeing that they have truly succeeded in living a regular family life,( in their private life) & that the kids are playing just like other kids all around! lol :) ahhhh boys with their plastic toy guns. I never let our boys have them, but I remember another Mom telling me that even if you don't let them play with a plastic toy one, that they will play pretend with sticks & yes mine did! lol :) "Cops & Robbers" & "Cowboys & Indians" were a staple for my boys, complete with "stick guns"! lol :)
DeleteI also found my children, including girls, using sticks for guns after I had decided there would be no toy guns in the family! Hard to win that one in our gun oriented society.
DeleteBut actually, none of my children own guns as adults. Children do learn the family culture even if they break the rules as kids.
DeleteI admit I have mixed feelings when I see these kinds of posts. For one I am always jolted to see that "off duty" Kate favors simple off-the-rack affordable clothes, practical shoes, no pantyhose, straight hair, and very little makeup. And then you see her on duty and sometimes I think she almost hides behind her uniform of a coat-dress, stilettos, pantyhose, fascinator hats, curled hair (often with hair extensions), and the heavy smoky-eyed makeup. Like when she came out of the hospital with Louis a mere 7 hours after giving birth there she was with her full uniform: heels, hose, designer dress, bouncy curls, heavy makeup.
ReplyDeleteI wish the two Kates could merge more. I realize she has duties but I sometimes feel like she still isn't comfortable in her role as a public figure and thus dolls herself up as much as possible.
Yes, I'm sure Kate feels that she needs to look a certain way when "on duty" but I think it's because it's expected of her in her position to have a very polished presentation, rather than not being comfortable in her role. And having a go-to "uniform" of coat-dresses is probably to make things easier for herself and her staff. However I do agree, and strongly, that she shouldn't have felt the need to get so dolled up when leaving the hospital with Charlotte and Louis. I realize she knows these photos will be seen for years to come by millions of people, and she wants to look her best. But to me, these are "off-duty" moments that need not call for the full uniform. I always thought she looked far more beautiful when leaving the hospital with George - more casual attire, natural hair, less makeup. Her pure joy was all the adornment she needed to look her best.
DeleteIvy Lin, surely every young mother has a casual "outing-with-the-kids" look and then a professional "off-to-work" look. I wore jeans, running shoes, hair in a pony tail and little makeup when I was on an outing with my children. But for work, I wore a business suit, heels, panty hose, styled hair and makeup. How is Kate any different from women everywhere? I disagree with you that Kate isn't comfortable in her role as a public figure and that she hides behind her designer outfits.
DeleteSometimes a uniform can help one feel there is a distinction between their private & public life. Just a thought. :) I forget who first brought that up, but it immediately came to mind when I read your thoughts. I think it probably has some merit. I too would love a merger, but if that's what makes things work for Kate, who am I to want more from her. :)
DeleteI think she is comfortable in her public role but I do agree she has a work wardrobe and non work look.I think that is smart to do. But there is lots of overlap, think of her appearance at sporting events she is doing as part of her BRF work. She is typically in workout pants and jackets, make up but typically more casual hair and make up look. Actually I found her shoes at this event not at all practical:), and she had styled her hair and straightened it and was wearing make up, just lighter like most of us do on the weekends. She also still wears quite a few off the rack clothes when out and about on formal duties. I am thinking that trip to India which was a real mixture.
DeleteI could name a lot of famous women who have "uniform" days and off duty days, but I will refrain and not have the thread go off on a major tangent.
DeleteOnce upon a time, before casual Fridays turned into "whatever" days Monday through Friday, people did dress up to go to work and their professional wardrobe differed from their weekend attire. No one questioned whether the difference related to a comfort level. Dressing professionally was expected and most people took pride in doing so.
Kate married into the BRF and is a future Queen. Of course she has to dress the part. Doesn't HM? Doesn't she get "dolled up" when she's on duty, while wearing comfortable shoes with a headscarf and raincoat when she's not working?
Well I guess I'll just say that I don't find Kate's "work" clothes that professional looking. Actual working women even in workplaces that require business attire do not leave the house in 4 inch stilettos, several thousand dollar designer frocks, curly hair extensions, and flowery fascinator hats. She's not actually "working" in the sense that she has a 9-5 job. She's "working" as a goodwill ambassador of sorts to promote the image of the BRF. And so I think a degree of authenticity is needed. All those things she wears separates her from people.
DeleteI think this was the most extreme when she left the hospital with Louis. I was frankly shocked that she was completely dolled up and even had the curly hair extensions. No one expects someone who gave birth 7 hours ago to look like that.
I mean I think there's a reason William and Harry stick to a simple blue suit when they go out to "work." The point is to be more authentic and relatable.
I don't see how Kate's "professional" look is different from that of many other royal women in the past or present, in the BRF or elsewhere. Margaret and the Queen Mother were always dressed in their best for their appointments and not, I'm sure, inexpensively too. Was Diana's look more authentic thirty years ago, or was it just as expensive and or not relatable to many? Diana's hair and makeup were also done when she introduced her two sons to the world on the hospital steps. I also don't think it's fair to compare Kate's look to William's or Harry's. And just how much do their simple blue "uniforms" cost? I'm sure their suits are not cheap, even if they try to blend in with the ordinary man. Kate has worn inexpensive outfits to some of her engagements. However, regardless of what they wear or how they look or act, the reality is that royalty are separated from most people in so many other ways.
DeleteI think Ivy has lots of valid points to discuss but it won't happen if people a) react to something she has never said b)insinuate that she is a jealous hater and deflect the entire conversation.
DeleteMay I ask the Admin to rethink to publish comments like that? Thank you!
P.S: I always love reading your comments Ivy, since you state the obvious and not afraid to express it!
She dresses like the other royal ladies. Why should she be singled out and discriminated against.
DeleteI don't think Ivy's points are valid.
Lovely outing with the children, princess Charlotte is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteOh gorgeous! Can you tell us about George and Charlotte's clothes please? From the Polo and the Trolling of the Colour. Thanks xxx
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteI believe they are sold out styles from The White Company :)
What an Absolute Treat!! Kate looks Amazing & the kiddos..... Cuteness overload! I think George is going to be a little heartthrob & Charlotte..... oh bestill my heart, she is already a beauty!! William better get ready to fight off the suitors!! lol :) A+ Day Out for The Cambridges!! I'm still smiling & will go right back & enjoy the photos again! Such a fun day had by all! :) Such a lovely family! :)
ReplyDeleteThe photos are sweet. I wonder how the photographer got so much access. Seems like James Whatling is a pretty well known royal photographer, so it doesn't seem likely he wasn't noticed, snapping away all those shots of the family at play. Is it possible that Kate and Wm quietly got word to Mr Whatley as to where and when they'd be at polo, and have consent for him to take pictures as long as he was discreet and didn't bother the children?
ReplyDeleteHello,
DeleteYes, the royal photographers were sent an op note and press release ahead of the match. Their position made for terrific photos :)
Thanks for clarifying!
DeleteFascinating. I wonder how Prince William feels about this very charming exposure of his family.
DeletePatricia l, it sounds like per Charlotte's comment, that William would have known & been a part of the decision to have the day be a photo-op, if the royal photographers were given a note & press release! I think it's wonderful. Instead of having an old fashioned "photo-call" like he was subjected to as a child, they allowed themselves to be photographed during a fun family day! Brilliant! A nice gift to the British people & it builds good favor all around! :) People are always wanting William & Kate to let the public see the kids more? This was Brilliant! :)
DeleteBonus.... the kids weren't disturbed & likely none the wiser until which time they ever see the photos! This was a very favorable way to check a lot of boxes in a natural, organic way! :)
DeleteYes, I agree, Becca, that William would have known. I’m just wondering what it took to persuade him.
DeleteYes Patricia, that is the million dollar question??
DeleteMum and kids playing as most mums and kids do. These pictures are delightful ! The kids are full of life. Charlotte is so adorable and seems to be the little clown of the family.
ReplyDeleteKate is beaming !
I am waiting for the christening date to be announced....
ReplyDeleteWhen is the christening date going to be announced?
ReplyDeleteThe family looked lovely on their outing. But I am very sad that George was playing with a gun. A gun should NEVER be considered a toy. The purpose of a gun, the reason it was designed, is to kill another living thing. George may be growing up with protection officers and military all around him, but he should still not be encouraged to think that a gun is a toy.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a pleasure to see the Duchess of Cambridge have FUN with her children. I really liked the dress also; looks carefree and cool yet has a little fashion style to it with the off shoulder look. Thanks Charlotte for a very fun post and I enjoyed reading the history of this particular Polo match.
ReplyDeleteWow, each time I pop in & see these photos again, I'm struck by Kate's natural beauty! She looks so young & carefree! So many fav pics, but I do love the pic of her looking at William.... I don't know why, but it makes me feel like we are getting a peek into a private conversation between them as a couple. I love her expression! :) Really, if I'm going to be truly honest..... each photo is my fav! lol :) I love the running by Kate, Charlotte & George, I love the sitting & the snuggles, I love George leaping in the air, I love Charlotte & those sunglasses, I love then all! lol :)
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see them together at this family outing and Kate looks glowing and wonderful. Lovely dress but I'd suggest something more practical to sit on the grass and play comfortably with the kids, especially when photographs are around...
ReplyDeleteFor the same reasons I'd suggest also a ponytail for Kate and leggings or similar, underneath the dress for Charlotte.
They are such a loving family. Love them all! Can't wait for Prince Louis christening...
They all look so happy and carefree. I love this sweet family!
ReplyDeleteI'm perturbed that Kate didn't attend Garter today. It's such a high profile event and looks bad (imo) after her attendence at Trooping and polo last weekend. I get she is on maternity break but its one afternoon and would have made great impression on the general public.
ReplyDeleteAgree, erika. But mostly I want to say it's nice to see your name. I miss your bright and shining self!
DeleteI disagree. It is a high profile event but a very exclusive one. It would not have looked good if she had attended it and not a garden party. And at the garter she is only a spectator of the ceremony, she has no active role to play. Anyway she is on maternity leave and the "just an afternoon" may not be easy is she is breastfeeding. Not the same as sitting on the grass for a couple of hours next door to your home.
DeleteHi, bluhare. Thank you for that :)
DeleteWelcome back, Erika! I was also sorry not to see Kate on Garter Day. But I think it was easier for her to do Trooping, since the palaces are near each other and she could manage it from home. Everyone has seen her with her family twice in recent days, and once with almost the whole royal family. The trip to Windsor would have been disrupting, especially when it is so busy. Between all the guests and crowds for Garter and Ascot, it must be a bit of a madhouse. I am satisfied with the charming glimpses we have had. Please keep joining us!
DeletePS I should have included the Sussex wedding, of course, and the christening of Prince Louis is coming soon. We are really seeing quite a lot of Kate and her family.
DeleteHello Patricia:) and, yes, I agree with all you say.
DeleteFor me, it isn't a matter of getting to see Kate but more a matter of supporting William at his tenth anniversary of the Garter. I thought she might show up for that. It is an exclusive event and her absence as an onlooker seems glaring to me. However, you are correct. We have been spoiled with the appearances she has made since Louis' birth, and we do have the christening to look foward to.
🌸 Yes. So nice to see your comments here again, Erika. Hope we see them a lot. 😊
ReplyDeleteThanks, surfer girl :)
Delete🌸 I am so eager to see how much Prince Louie has grown. 🤗
ReplyDeleteQueen Letizia has been visiting the U.S. for the last several days, and I just viewed seven dresses that she has worn. WOW! Every outfit is fabulous. She really has a great eye for fashion.
ReplyDelete
