The Princess is Summery in Cefinn for New Early Years Field Study Launch

It was a gorgeous June day as the Princess of Wales stepped out in the sunshine for a visit to Nuneaton in North Warwickshire to unveil the next stage of the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Years' plans.

The Princess took the opportunity to meet health visitors participating in a new field study (a £50,000 investment by the the Royal Foundation Centre) which aims to "support the profession to promote infant wellbeing" and "social and emotional development".

The study hopes to follow in the footsteps of successes in Denmark. Kensington Palace said: "The Centre for Early Childhood has provided a grant for the study which will trial and evaluate the use of the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB) in the UK and is being run in partnership with the Institute of Health Visiting (iHV) and the University of Oxford. The Princess saw first-hand how the ADBB model is being used by health visitors to support parent-infant relationships and early childhood development during her visit to Denmark in February 2022. Following the trip, Her Royal Highness and the Centre for Early Childhood have been working closely with the Institute of Health Visiting to explore the potential for implementation of the ADBB in the UK."

A Palace spokesperson added: "The ADBB model is used to assess how babies are interacting with the world around them. The tool focuses on social behaviours such as eye contact, facial expressions, vocalisation and activity levels to help practitioners and families to better understand the ways babies express their feelings, whilst also supporting parents and carers with bonding and attachment. The ADBB can also be used to recognise early signs of psychological distress, enabling specialist support to be accessed as soon as it is needed."

Kate spoke to those currently receiving training on how to use the ADBB to support families. They discussed the importance of ensuring each child receives the very best possible care and the change required to build "happy and positive relationships".

A light-hearted moment brought a smile to everyone's faces.

People reports:

'As seen in a video shared to Twitter by Victoria Ward of The Telegraph, Princess Kate was speaking to a small group at Riversley Park Children's Centre about the importance of support teams when the baby to her left let out a belch. The adults burst into laughter, and the princess had the perfect reply.

“Well done, you!” Kate said with a laugh as she tenderly touched the baby's foot.

"It's always really reassuring when you spend ages trying to get them to burp," she told the woman holding the little one.'

Kensington Palace concluded in a statement: "Our interactions and relationships during our earliest years are crucial in promoting social and emotional wellbeing, providing vital foundations which shape the rest of our lives. By working closely with people from across the private, public and voluntary sectors, including the early years workforce, the Princess of Wales and the Centre for Early Childhood hope to create a network of shared knowledge and best practice which can be used to identify and collaborate on new solutions and inspire action to drive real, positive change on the early years". The ADBB trial is running for a period of ten months and is being carried out at the South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust, and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust.

Kate spotted a child sporting kit that's rather popular with William and George -- the family's Aston Villa fans.

More from Birmingham Mail:

'Noticing he was wearing Aston Villa's change strip, she said 'oh, I know that kit.' Her husband has made no secret of his support for the Birmingham club. Nate’s mum Lindsay signed makaton to him so he knew what she was saying.

The mum-of-three told CoventryLive she didn’t ever expect for them to meet the Princess today. She had picked up Nate from preschool in weddington and took him to the appointment, unaware of the Royal visitor.'

The event was covered by a pool photographer, meaning we didn't see the abundance of shots we usually would with a full ROTA covering, so it was a treat to see a couple of behind-the-scenes images.

And this group shot.

More from Coventry Live:

'She spoke to the health workers about the project and their training and said she wanted to hear first hand how it is making a difference. "I wanted to come and see you here, and to say thank you for the amazing job you do and to highlight the critical role," she said.

"It is such a wonderful valuable role that you play and I want to celebrate that and shine a light on that." After asking to see the 'training in action' Kate was offered the chance to join in the online training.

Leaving the room she promised 'I will have to keep in touch.'

As Kate departed, Coventry Live reports staff and parents formed a "guard of honour" in the hallway.

A lovely video from the engagement.

The Princess wore Ceffin's Petra dress.

The piece by the brand founded by Samantha Cameron is described as being "cut from lustrous leopard-print silk with a tie-fastening waist for a cinched silhouette". It's available at Matches Fashion. Below, a closer look at the print.

Kate wore her Jimmy Choo Romy 85 pumps.

And carried her white Mulberry Amberley bag.

Accessorising with a pair of Kiki McDonough green amethyst pear drop earrings (with thanks to What Kate Wore and Caroline Parr).

We have several very interesting days of royal watching coming up. On Saturday, it's Trooping the Colour; Monday is Order of the Garter; Tuesday, the Princess is visiting the refurbished National Portrait Gallery. And I think it likely we'll see the Waleses at Royal Ascot at some point next week :)

I love this dress ! And onto the engagement itself, it’s so nice to see a confident woman helping other women. She is shining her light for sure .

  2. Hooray, she's travelled to the Midlands! Nice engagement, funny baby moment. :) Didn't completely love the dress (Kate had a 'sun shining through the material' moment). Still, great to see her.

  3. This was a lovely visit. The Princess is very personable and its noticeable how at ease people are in her company, she is very natural.
This silk dress is beautiful. Love everything about it. The shape, design and fit, perfect, skirt has plenty of movement, nice!. The color is gorgeous, the pattern of the fabric is just enough not overdone. A lovely appearance by the Princess.

  5. Well done to The Princess of Wales. This is a brilliant Idea to support children and their parents. Also to the Royal foundation for backing it, hopefully it will prove a great success and expand. I love this dress on her today. Green always suits her very well. It looks nice and light for such a hot day. Her collection of Kiki earrings have come in very handy over the years when something smaller is required. Also great to support a British designer. Sam Cams business has had financial problems after the pandemic. I'm sure the Princess wearing her clothing is much appreciated. Her first trooping the colour and Royal ascot her first as Princess of Wales will be nice to see. Charlotte, thanks for the post I've been keeping a eye out for it. Quick question if you don't mind. Is the gallery event in the evening? S.🙂.

    1. Hello S, it's embargoed unfortunately, but judging from the press release it sounds like a daytime visit.

We are overdue an evening event for Kate :)

    2. Thanks Charlotte. I knew you would understand why I asked, I agree definitely overdue a evening event. The court jeweler covered all the jewellery worn previously by The DUC of Cambridge over the years. Just about to read it but some beautiful photos. S.🙂.

    3. I adore The Court Jeweller. Lauren is both a supremely talented writer and a lovely lady.

    4. I'm a huge fan. Fantastic work and research and she really does have a great insight on Royal jewels. I hope she is able to keep it up with the stork on the way. The time and effort ye both put in is much appreciated by the readers. S.🙂.

  6. Love the dress! Also loving that one of the areas where this scheme is being trialled is the Humber, which is one of the deprived Northern areas due for levelling up.

  7. She looks great but I am not a fan of the shoes or the print. The dress design is lovely and it moves beautifully but the print is a bit too busy for my tastes. Ali

  8. A very pretty dress for this occasion, lovely colour on Kate. I would have chosen a different shoe I think the white pumps are a bit old fashioned looking with this dress, her espadrille wedges would have been nice a little less formal look, nice bag and the earrings are gorgeous I love how she has so many options with them, a good buy!

    1. Agree with these comments. The dress colors are so beautiful and perfect for June. However, the white shoes are dreadful and the espadrilles would have been a nice choice for a working visit with young children.

    2. Maybe Kate can reverse the prejudice against white shoes, if she keeps wearing them.

    3. I can’t see myself ever embracing the white shoes again

  9. I love everything about her ensemble today, especially the dress, & loved the event! Once I saw that it was in the Midlands, I knew that several people here would be happy!:) I can't wait for all the Royal events that are just upon us! Thank you in advance Charlotte. I'm sure it will all be wonderful!! xoxo

  10. Does she not have an almost identical dress? She wore it at baby basics. Same pattern, same colour. Don't understand why she need more new dresses when she already hast almost the same in her closet. She could just reweat it - but anyway I truly love the colour of the dress!

  11. the princess of wales is very keen advocate of eely years maybe these will be her signature This is a brilliant Idea to support children and their parents. with the help of the royal foundation and i love that she doing fantastic job on researching

  12. I so wish William sat there, alone, without Kate, promoting early years. This project lacks men - not as leader, but as dads. Where are the the dads in these pictures? Men struggle to cope as parents as well as women. Men are nurturers too.

Still not a fan of these shoes - must be horribly uncomfortable - but a green dress is a wise choice for meeting kids.

    1. That's a good point about William's support for this initiative and the importance of the father role. Early years is a long term project so maybe they'll do this at some point in the future.

    2. Why would a pair of 575 pound Jimmy Choo's be uncomfortable?

      Delete
    3. The cost of a shoe is no measure at all of how comfortable it is, I assure you

      Delete
    4. @20:00 @10:27 That still doesn't explain why this particular pair would be any less comfortable than any other pair of heels worn by Kate.

  13. I absolutely love the engagement and that she travelled a bit further into the UK. But I can’t bring myself to like the outfit. The pattern, the colours and the accessories give it a very jarring vintage vibe without the vintage silhouette or hair (more curls or a ponytail might have helped). It’s too much - especially visible next to the other woman in a similar dress. Maybe with darker accessories and a belt it would have worked? I don’t know. Sometimes her fashion choices leave me at a loss.

  14. I won't comment on the engagement, since my criticisms seem to be disturbing people. I will say only that, despite my efforts, I have been unable to find any Cefinn offerings that really appeal to me, which has sort of mystified me, given that I always rather liked Samantha Cameron's style. However, I love shirtdresses, and the crisp, clean colors of this print are appealing -- and that's coming from someone who is not a great fan of small prints. This is a better Cefinn design than most I've seen, and it looks fine on the Princess.

On the other hand, I truly hate white pumps, which always strike me as tacky. If I ran the world, we'd have a law banning them on all occasions but weddings!

    1. I like reading your comments, not just on the fashion but I've found you very insightful on other topics as well. Unfortunately in the world we live in now, some people are just looking to be offered. S.🙂.

    2. I don't understand all the hate for white shoes. For years they were just another choice in shoe color, but then, suddenly, for some reason, they became an object of derision. I can't wear heels anymore, but I had several pears of white shoes over the years that I loved. Sometimes it was the only color that complimented the outfit. Do white sandals fall into this "yuck" category, too?

      Delete
    3. I'm with you. Unless you are a bride, white pumps are a distracting choice and a neutral in ivory or the right shade of beige looks sophisticated v white pumps.

      Delete
    4. No, RM, white pumps have long been on the list of "downmarket looks" in the view of many people. This is not some new development. As for white sandals, I think they're fine in the right context and if they aren't of the sky-high stiletto-heeled variety.

    5. Sorry, should of read offended. S.🙂.

I love this dress ! Although white buttons would have been prettier than the dark ones that catch the eye.
I was just thinking that we hadn't seen Kate in a spring dress yet this year, now we have ! :)
In addition, the bouquet of flowers offered to her fits perfectly with the color of her dress.

    1. Anna, I was thinking the same. The flowers are the perfect choice for the dress.

  16. I think this is a beautiful dress. I very much dislike Kate's solid green dresses but this is lovely!

This endeavor regarding the ADBB seems like a positive addition to her interests -- the April 2022 British Journal of Developmental Psychology issue has a study that uses the ADBB (Danish authors).

  17. Royals really do have to be ready for anything at events like the baby who interrupted with a burp. Kate responded beautifully

  18. What a lovely dress! Very summery. I like the pattern, though it does look a bit animal-print-like from afar. I would like to have seen it paired with more casual summer shoes. Like an espadrille or a classy sandal.
