UPDATED: Kate in Burberry for Engagements in Moray and Inverness

The Prince and Princess of Wales, styled as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, visited organisations supporting rural communities in Moray and Inverness today. The 'away day' also saw an opportunity to spend time with organisations supporting young people through access to outdoor excursions and learning opportunities.

Their first port of call was Outfit Moray in Burghead.

Outfit Moray is an award-winning charity and social company that was founded in 2003 and provides young people in Moray with programs that offer outdoor learning and adventure activities that can change their lives. More than 16,000 children and young people have benefited from their work, which focuses on fostering resilience, self-worth, and confidence in addition to offering good role models and challenging and positively risk-taking young people to gain new experiences and life skills.

Outfit Moray aims to make a difference to the lives of others, by actively developing the potential of young people, their families and communities, through accessible and affordable outdoor learning and adventure: encouraging life skills and improving physical and mental health. The charity is a recipient of the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

Kensington Palace noted: "Outfit Moray runs a large range of activities designed to build confidence, self-esteem and resilience including mountain biking, paddlesports, rock climbing, archery, and bushcraft. It also runs a number of programmes in local schools such as cycle training, bike maintenance and first aid programmes".

The Telegraph notes:

'While speaking to pupils at Burghead primary school, the Prince answered questions from pupils, including from one pupil who asked if he had brought any soldiers of the King’s Guard with him, while the Princess of Wales volunteered to time a bike race between some of the other children.

One child asked the Prince how old he was and when he prompted the child to guess his age, they said they thought he was 57.

The 41-year-old Prince, feigning shock, said, “I’m not that old.”

The Duke and Duchess participated in a mountain bike session in action at Burghead Primary School.

People reports:

'Martin Collins, the acting head of the primary school, told MFR News and Sport that Princess Kate was "really just involved with the boys and girls."

"One of the boys fell over as well, and she was really — sort of came to him and nudged him back, so that was really nice to see," he added.

Children spoke with the outlet about their experiences interacting with Prince William and Princess Kate. One girl said they asked about the children's favorite sports, adding, "Prince William likes football."

From there, the Duke and Duchess visited Brodieshill Farm where they met members of the Lower Speyside Young Farmers as well as representatives from Farmstrong Scotland, which are both working to promote positive mental wellbeing in rural communities across Scotland and support local farmers.

Kensington Palace said "Lower Speyside Young Farmers is run for young people from any background from the ages of 14 to 29 across the local area and provides opportunities for socialising and interaction in what can sometimes be an isolating environment. The group has a strong presence in the local community and has recently taken part in the “Are ewe okay” campaign, led by the Scottish Association of Young Farmer Clubs, which encourages members to talk about mental health and break down the stigma and taboo associated with it".

Farmstrong Scotland is committed to the wellbeing of farmers and rural communities and runs programmes to improve individual mental and physical wellbeing and, in the process, supports local businesses to thrive.

During the visit, William and Kate met families who attend regular sessions at the farm’s dedicated play area. Developed to provide a space for young children to explore and learn, Brodieshill offers an indoor and outdoor area for child-led play where families, including those based at nearby RAF Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth, can focus and reconnect with their children, and get together regularly as a group.

The Duchess met a darling little girl who was eager to show Kate her wings.

Finally, the Duke and Duchess visited Highland based charity DAY1.

The youth-focused organisation specialises in mentoring.

Dylan Mackay told the Northern Times, "I’ve been here a year and a half and it has been brilliant getting on the track, meeting with like-minded folk and learning new skills. It has given me a lot of confidence. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to stand and chat to the royal couple and probably wouldn’t have been able to not so long ago, but they were very down-to-earth and they chatted away very easily. It was all very light-hearted".

Kate selected a past season Burberry check quilted jacket for the day (with thanks to Middleton Maven).

The piece is described as:

'No stranger to combining House codes, British label Burberry gives its coveted quilted coat a signature refresh for the new season. Cloaked with a heritage-inspired check pattern, this lightweight silhouette is gently filled for extra warmth during chillier seasons and cut to a short fit that’s perfect for inner city or country styling.'

The composition of the piece: Lining: 40% Cotton, 60% Cupro, 100% Polyester.

Middleton Maven also suggests the Princess wore a past season cashmere turtleneck by Polo Ralph Lauren.

Kate wore the same chocolate brown boots as yesterday. With better photos, the eagled eyed Susan from What Kate Wore believes they are in fact not the Reiss Thea style. As of publishing this post, they remain unidentified.

And Kate accessorised with her Spells of Love teardrop garnet earrings

  1. Not sure if the boots themselves are distracting or it’s the combination with flared pants that doesn’t look good.

    1. I'm not a fan of slightly short flares either. it does look a bit off, for my taste too. I love the jacket though!

    2. Completely agree about the jeans and boots.

    3. She could wear a black bin bag and still look good

  2. Another nice event today. I’m a big fan of Burberry but the print on the jacket is too loud for my taste. The kick flare jeans also work less well with a more fitted jacket, the overall line is “off.”

  3. I like the jacket but not the pants.

  4. Jacket is nice, pants and boots odd. Not sure why not wearing a simple sneaker type shoe for bike riding, these boots look awkward for riding a bike and the length of the flared jeans is not good.Unless really expecting muddy conditions. In general flared pants and bike spokes do not play well together, though these are not very wide. Looks like a lovely event. ali

  5. I'm guessing these jeans (and maybe yesterday's too) are The Weekender by Mother in either Not Guilty or Deep End wash.

  6. Fun events! Loved the engines and they did well on the bike obstacle course. The jacket is a nice departure and they look good as a couple. The boots aren’t my favorite with the pants, but she looks youthful! Thanks Charlotte. Sue from IL

  7. Love the colour combination, just not sure about the leg shape of the jeans in much the same way as I am not sure of the leg shape of the jeans at her engagement the day before. I do love Catherine's down to earth values and the confidence she has developed over the years, extending to being confident in wearing newer, on-trend lines. I prefer a more fitted jean or a completely loose legged trouser personally.

  8. Nice outings, as was yesterday's with the dad group. Kate was dressed appropriately for both and mingled well with the participants. I think I like the Burberry jacket, although it could be excitement at seeing a new shape and a print. :)

  9. The coat makes her look much older than she is due to the pattern and quilting. Hoping for some more formal events after two very casual outings.

  10. I have to say this outfit is a total miss for me just doesn’t work total mis match. Jacket seems old fashioned , jeans too short and I don’t like the flare at the bottom. The boots are far too heavy and masculine. Hair lank and limp .TG

  11. I don't feel i will need to comment on the pants and boots. It looks like they had a great day out. 3 very good causes to support and highlight. I really think it is great the support they show for the farming community. Charlotte have you got any update on when we can expect to see them again? S.🙂.

  12. Like it or not, the flared jeans and the boots with the lug sole are totally on trend! I like to see her trying something new.

    1. Agreed!! Much as I hate the flare jeans, her outfit is very on trend. 90’s fashion - the wide leg and flare jeans, the chunky boots, the darker flannel/plaid tops and coats, it’s all back. I cry a bit in my favorite skinny jeans.

  13. Another nice event today. I really love the outfit of day the just enjoy the work

  14. I’m like others. I don’t like this outfit at all. Usually I can pick out something that I like. I’m having trouble with this one.
The green color is nice and I like the gold buttons, maybe if the jacket was a bit more fitted and not so boxy? The bell bottom pants look off and they’re too short! Earrings don’t go with the rest of the causal look. I don’t like these boots either, maybe less “man” looking boots? This looks like a mishmash of items. Her hair does look nice but at by the end of the event it went pretty flat. This is a whole miss for me. Lol.

  15. Like her bootcut jeans, nice to see a different style of jeans on her. Nice to support a independent jewellery designer, too.

  16. Lovely to see the PDA!

  17. I think there is a trend now for K&W to look like the people they are visiting. I don't think that is a bad thing, although it goes against "traditionalists" who want royalty to always stand apart. It's just hard for fashion viewers!

  18. Love the quilted jacket, the outfit was perfect for this visit.
What a great occasion, wonderful visit.

  19. What a great day. Fun but very important causes. I love that W&K look happy and relaxed together and the DAY1 charity was a cherry on top with its laid back atmosphere and youth. I would be super happy if this became a regular thing and we could always see away-days for Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England as a "tour".
Fashionwise, not bad for me. It is fresh and modern but styl polished and somehow elegant/tasteful. Up to date but not too extravagant. That is what I always love about Kate's style - she doesn't look old fashioned but at the same time she always dresses in a way that stays relevant for years to come.

  20. Interesting to see that, at a multiple engagement day when in the past Kate has often tweaked her outfit slightly for the different visits, this time she didn't. Granted, they were all outdoors country places, but I wonder if this is a new departure?

I am the minority, this is as close to what I’ve been wanting to see her wear as jeans for years!! Love that they are a little longer and not “going wading” short. I did not see the flare yesterday but see it today, this is not a huge flare and I think it gives a nice appearance rather than just straight, too short and skin tight. I like the boots a lot too. The coat is nice but not my speed, as someone else put it, the print is rather loud. Fingers crossed for a ball gown evening event soon. Hope she has a busy fall. Thanks Charlotte, well done as always!

  22. Personally I like flared jeans - I own a pair of Levi's quite similar to these - however Kate's seem a bit too short on her, and yes, those boots are definitely not a good match. A straight cut would have been much better. The jacket is a no-no for me, sorry. Anyway I enjoy these informal, outdoor engagements - Kate seems in her element.

  23. I love the bicycling photos so much! She is such a good sport and always so eager to jump in and try things. Her hairstyle is just not growing on me, sorry to say. I find myself wanting to reach for a ponytail holder to pull the hair back off her gorgeous face. Kate, please go back to your previous hairstyle!

    1. I think both Kate and Meghan look fabulous with a ponytail or "half-pony" (my favorite). Sigh.

  24. As a person who always had bad balance, I am inspired by the bicycling photos. I could never do that! But how encouraging to the youth they were visiting that she and William just jumped on bikes and rode the course. This seems like a great day of visits to people in northern Scotland. I have a picture of me standing on the pier at Burghead many years ago. Brings back great memories.

  25. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the hair. Charlotte was good enough not to use the worst ones.

  26. I can see that Kate's hair stylist has put in hair extensions I have to say they really don't look good on her :(

    1. Did she? I didn't notice.

    2. I don't like Kate's hair at this length but everyone is wearing their hair like that now! Actresses, local TV anchors ... it's too much. :) No more shoulder length hair.

I don't know how you can tell she has extensions, but if she does, I guess it's the pressure of being viewed and reported by everyone whenever she is in public. And I think she personally is a casual country dresser, so I think she is taking the freedom to dress the way she wants to dress now. Of course, it's very rough on fashion watchers!

Why would she need extensions ?

      Delete
    4. Because her natural hair is nowhere near this full. It's not an insult. Its fact.

      Delete
    5. yes it is not an insult but several hairdressers have commented on it on other blogs. here is a link to just one the hair extensions are noticeable to trained stylists https://www.laineygossip.com/sporty-princess-kate-rides-bike-with-poorly-executed-charlies-angels-hair/75059
and a quote from another article linked below "Louise Bailey, hair extension expert at Beauty Club London and hair stylist to the stars, noted the Princess's use of hair extensions in achieving her new look.

Rather than adding length, Louise explained it's likely Princess Kate has opted for extensions to add a little more thickness to her brunette tresses.

She added Kate's stylist has 'mixed in lighter bits' with the extensions, which has enhanced the overall vibrance of her hairdo."

as bluhare states it is not an insult it is very noticeable to trained stylists and many are talking about it online here are two links you can read from stylists discussing the extensions "Louise Bailey, hair extension expert at Beauty Club London and hair stylist to the stars, noted the Princess's use of hair extensions in achieving her new look.

and another one "I went to a professional – key hair artist, Caitlin Cullimore, we’ve been working together for years (check her IG page here for examples of her work) to ask her if, in her expert opinion, there are extensions happening here. She answered in the affirmative. The extensions, however, are not the issue. The issue is how they’ve been put in. The issue is that they’ve been put in badly. You can see the line and how it separates from her own hair. "

I love to see them outdoors supporting young people. It suits them both. I like the jacket and that’s a lot from me because I don’t care for quilted jackets in general. I think a ponytail would have flattered the Princess more. The pattern and color is a departure from somber colors people wear in colder months. Flare jeans are back , and as a person with curves, it balances me out. The flare width isn’t as wide in past decades. I agree that they could spend more away days and overnight visits in Wales, Cornwall and Scotland

  29. Everything about this outfit is on point, including her hair. Don’t know why people who follow this blog don’t also follow fashion trends, but the Princess is 100% nailing it. Love the casual outfit, the style of jeans, the boots, and her hair.
